Abstract:Based on statistics of monthly maximum precipitation and extremely high and low temperatures from 15 weather stations in the Qiantangjiang Basin from 1951 to 2008,the characteristics of the spatial distribution and change trend of extreme temperatures and maximum precipitation in different regions and seasons were analyzed with the co-kriging interpolation method and the Mann-Kendall trend method.The results show the following: the maximum precipitation shows a gradually decreasing trend in general,while the extreme temperatures have a rising trend;the maximum precipitation has an increasing trend in the summer and a decreasing trend in other seasons,and the extreme temperatures have a decreasing trend in all seasons;and there are obvious differences in the extreme temperatures between various areas in the Qiantangjiang Basin: the extremely high temperature grows rapidly in the coastal areas,particularly in Sheng County,while the change trend is not obvious in Chun'an County.
Analysis of the Precipitation Variation Characteristics and Its Abrupt Change in Eastern Qinghai

Abstract:Monthly precipitation data of 12 stations in eastern Qinghai from 1961 to 2004 were analyzed.The results indicated that the trend of summer precipitation was invariable change.There was relevant variation of summer precipitation in time in 10 years' period or less and the period of 8-10 years was very significant.From the large time scale of equal to or more than 10 years,the period of 17 years was very clear.The abrupt change was detected in eastern Qinghai in 1970 and 1999 separately.

Abstract:Based on precipitation data from 1956 to 2005 in Shouxian,Liu'an and Huoshan County of Liu'an region in Anhui Province,the characteristics of precipitation change was analyzed by using coefficient of variation(Cv),changing trend,mutation analysis and power spectral analysis.The influence of precipitation changes upon agricultural production was analyzed.The results showed that the precipitation decreased in Shouxian,Liu'an and Huoshan over last 50 years with an intermediate variation.The process of precipitation changes experienced three phases,namely partial dry,partial wet and dry and wet alternation.The Abrupt precipitation change in Shouxian and Liu'an County appeared in 1992,while it was in Huoshan County in 1965.The spectral analysis showed that the periodicities of precipitation were seven to eight years,two to three years and two years in Shouxian,Liu'an and Huoshan respectively.

Abstract:Based on the daily precipitation data of Xi'an in 1951-2005,the study analyzed the long-term trends of precipitation probability and amount not only in all year but also in four seasons respectively.The results show that(1) Total precipitation amount has a decreasing trend in the last fifty years.The number of precipitation day has a significant decreasing trend not only for all year but also for four seasons,and the fastest decreasing rate occurs in autumn.(2) The probability of light rain less than 5mm has a significant decreasing trend while the probability of light rain with 5~10 mm has no change in the studied period.There is no change trend in the probability of moderate rain and the more.(3) The probability of light rain in the four seasons has decreased since 1980s.While the probability change of light rain in summer is induced by decrease of drizzle day.(4)The proportion of light rain both in probability and in amount decreases distinctly.The amount proportion of moderate rain decreases a little while that of heavy rain has no decrease trend.Therefore the decrease in amount of both light rain and moderate rain contributes mostly to the decrease in total annual precipitation amount.All the results strongly indicate that the aerosol exhausted by human activities is one of possible main reason for the decrease of amount and probability of precipitation in Xi′an.
Analysis of Precipitation Characteristics and Its Causes in Central Yunnan City

Abstract:Basing on the nearly 50-year precipitation data of 4 major city (Kunming, Qujing, Yuxi, Chuxiong) in urban agglomeration of central Yunnan, this paper analyzes the variation of precipitation in annual, seasonal, and monthly time scale by using methods including the statistical analysis, the wavelet analysis, accumulative leveling method, and the grey relational analysis. The result shows that the average precipitation in past 50 years is 928.1 mm. The trend of precipitation is declining, and a mutation appears in 2009. Besides, precipitation has a dry and wet season in these region, and the wet season is between May and October but the dry season is between November and April of next year, There are more precipitation in the rainy season and less precipitation in dry season. The maximum of precipitation (184.0 mm) appears in July, but the minimum of precipitation (13.8 mm) appears in December. According to the wavelet analysis, the change of annual precipitation is about 22 years, the summer precipitation has a 19-day increase-decrease cycle with more precipitation and smaller variation, and the winter precipitation has a 20-day increase-decrease cycle with less precipitation and larger variation. The grey relational analysis show that the temperature and the specific humidity are dominant natural factors, and the population and the city size are dominant human factors. Besides, the natural factors play greater role than the artificial factors.

Abstract:Abstract The statistical characteristics of precipitation on the daily resolution play an important role not only in the risk assessment of floods and droughts but also in the land use management. In this study, spatial and temporal patterns of the precipitation concentration in the Yangtze River Basin are investigated by using three indices, i.e. precipitation concentration index (CI), precipitation concentration degree (PCD) and precipitation concentration period (PCP). Based on meteorological data of 147 stations for the period of 1960–2008, non‐parametric trend analysis and wavelet transformation analysis are employed to detect the temporal variation of these indices. Spatial variability of precipitation concentration indices and their trends are analysed and demonstrated with the help of GIS tools. The results indicate the following: (i) The high precipitation CI values mainly distribute in the middle region of the Yangtze River Basin, whereas the lower and lowest CI values are found in the lower and upper regions, respectively. A roughly east–west gradient for PCD value and PCP value varies from 0.26 to 0.77 and from 123 to 197, respectively. (ii) The analysis results of precipitation CI trends for different periods (i.e. recent 40, 30 and 20 years) show that the middle region of the Yangtze River Basin experienced a transition from decreasing precipitation CI to increasing precipitation CI during the last two decades, although the decreasing long‐term trends in the precipitation CI are not significant in most areas during the period of 1960–2008. (iii) The upper basin, middle basin and lower basin are, respectively, dominated by the significant decreasing, increasing and no significant trends in PCD. A dominance of insignificant PCP trends is observed in the entire basin during 1960–2008 despite that a few areas in the upper region are characterized by significant decreasing trends. (iv) Interdecadal oscillations can be found for three precipitation indices, but with no constant periodicity. Furthermore, good positive correlations have been detected between precipitation CI and PCD, whereas insignificant correlation coefficients of PCP with precipitation are common in the basin. The results can provide beneficial reference to water resource and eco‐environment and mitigation to flood or drought hazards in the Yangtze River Basin for policymakers and stakeholders. Abstract:This study investigates spatial characteristics of annual and decadal precipitation in the Huaihe River basin. Daily precipitation data, obtained from meteorological gauges, are analyzed for a 51-year period, from 1961 to 2011. Precipitation is analyzed in grids (5 km(2)) with respect to temporal variability. The spatial distribution and intensity of annual rainfall (mm/10 year), determined by the linear regression method, reveals a slight increase of 3 mm/10 year over the basin. However, the trend did not present a significant change at 95% significance level in the most of basin. Precipitation is mostly increasing for each ten-year periods during the total 51 years. The annual precipitation randomicity was calculated from the non-uniform coefficient Cv (coefficient of variation) test and showed a significant non-uniform spatial distribution, indicating that randomicity of annual rainfall was the moderate variability. The Pettitt test determined that the abrupt change points occurred mainly in 1965, 1975 and 2002. Wavelet analysis showed that cyclic variations appeared almost every 5 to 10 years, accounting for 36% of the basin area. Meanwhile, these cycles tended to be delimited by the abrupt change points. This study aims to provide insights for water resources management, mitigation of climate change effects and water supply in the Huaihe River basin and surrounding watersheds.
Analysis on inhomogeneity characteristics of temperature and precipitation in Jiading district of Shanghai from 2006 to 2015

Abstract:Based on the hourly datasets from nine automatic weather station in Jiading district of Shanghai from 2006 to 2015,the inhomogeneity characteristics of the temporal and spatial change of temperature and precipitation are studied by analyzing the characteristics of diurnal,inter-annual variations and the spatial distribution of temperature and precipitation.Results reveal that the local changes and sea sonal variations of temperature and precipitation existed in Jiading district,whose maximal high temperature is centralized in all seasons but the minimum low temperature is more dispersed.The annual average temperature presented falling trend,while the annual precipitation on the whole was increasing.The southeast corner of Jiading district was the area of high temperature and relatively large precipitation,and the central region had the large precipitation and the relatively high temperature,while the temperature and precipitation are relatively low in the north part,which means that the southeast part and the central region is relatively warm-wet and the north part is relatively dry-cold.The large spatial distribution differ ence of standard deviation of temperature and precipitation shows that the inhomogeneity characteristics of temperature and precipitation in Jiading district of Shanghai is significant.The investigation on the spatialtemporal evolvement of temperature and precipitation is important for better understanding of small scale regional climate.It can also provide climate background for extreme events,refined weather forecasting as well as risk zonation of meteorological disaster.
Precipitation characteristics in Chongqing during 1961-2012

Abstract:The daily precipitation in Chongqing during 1961-2012 observed by 34 meteorological stations were used to analyze the precipitation characteristics in temporal and spatial distribution,frequency and intensity by ap?plying methods of EOF,linear regression and correlation analysis.The results indicate that the annual total precipita?tion of Chongqing is gradually decreasing.There are two patterns for the spatial distribution of annual total precipita?tion,namely,pattern of wet or dry in all area,and pattern of wet ( or dry) in northeast with dry ( or wet) in other ar?eas of Chongqing.There are big differences in annual total frequency distribution for different duration precipitations. Linear trends show that short duration(2?day) precipitation processes are increasing,while long?duration(5?day and more) precipitation processes are decreasing in frequency.The reduction of annual total rainfall by general precipita?tions( including light rain,moderate rain,and heavy rain) may be the main reason for the decrease of annual total precipitation in Chongqing;the light rain and moderate rain are decreasing,but the heavy rain is increasing slightly in intensity.While the annual total rainfall by heavy precipitation processes (storm,heavy storm) is weakly in?creased,with slightly enhanced precipitation intensity.The decreased frequency of long duration(5?d and more) pre?cipitation processes may be related to the rising trend of 500 hPa geopotential height in Chongqing region and the increment of equatorial Pacific sea surface temperature,while the slight increase in precipitation intensity of heavy rain and storm may be due to the El Ni?o Modoki.
Spatial-temporal variations of precipitation in the lower Jianghuai plain:A case study of the Inner Lixiahe Region,Jiangsu

Abstract:Located in the transitional zone of subtropical and temperate monsoon climates from southern to northern China,the lower Jianghuai plain is a typical lower region with dense water bodies.Based on the daily precipitation data of 17 rain gauging stations of the Inner Lixiahe Region in the lower Jianghuai plain from 1957 to 2006,the trends and distributions of precipitation are analyzed using linear regression,moving average method,Mann-Kendall method,and GIS.We conclude that,with frequent rainstorms,precipitation occurring during a year was uneven,70% of which occurred in the flood season.The variation of annual and flood-season precipitations was evident,with Anfeng and Xinghua in the middle of the Inner Lixiahe Region as the most significant sites.With the advance and retreat of summer monsoon,precipitation in July and August decreased from north to south,and rainstorms took place frequently in the middle and northeast,which was different from the variation trend of annual precipitation.As a result,rainstorm was quite frequent in Anfeng,Xinghua and Dongtai in the middle part of Lixiahe,and in Funing and Yancheng in the northeastern part of Lixiahe.In contrast to a reducing trend in autumn precipitation and an obvious reducing trend in September,winter precipitation increased significantly,especially in the middle and southern parts.This study can provide reference to regional flood prevention and sustainable utilization of water resources.
Characteristics of the interannual variations of summer precipitation days with different class intervals over Eastern China

Abstract:The interannual variations both of total summer rainfall days and rainfall days with different class intervals over eastern China are analyzed by using the daily precipitation data in China during 1958—2004.The results show that the number of total summer rainy days and rainfall days with different rainfall amount over eastern China in the period of 1980—2004 was obviously different from that in the period of 1958—1979. The total rainfall days and total precipitation amount decreased after 1980 in Northeast China,due to the reduction in light rainy days. The total rainfall days and total rainfall amount also decreased after1980 in North China,the former is attributed to the reduction in the rainfall days with every class interval,especially in light rainy days,and the total precipitation amount reduced due to the decrease of the rainstorm days. In the Yangtze River valley region the rainy days and precipitation amount increased after 1980,as the total rainfall days increased with the increase of rain days for moderate rain and heavier,but total precipitation increased mainly because of increase of rainstorm days. In south China the rainfall days and precipitation amount reduced after 1980,the latter is due to the decrease of rainfall amount in every rainfall class,while the reduction of the rainy days is associated with the decrease of light rainy days.

Abstract:Understanding precipitation variations from various aspects is important for the assessment of drought risk and the utilization of water resources. The precipitation concentration index (PCI) and the concentration index (CI) were used to investigate/quantify the heterogeneity of the monthly and daily rainfall in Qinghai province that is part of northwestern China, respectively. The precipitation concentration in Qinghai shows a significant irregularity of the monthly rainfall distribution and highly homogeneous distribution of the daily rainfall. It is found that PCI and CI show negative trends at most stations. Meanwhile, the spatial and temporal variation of nine dry spell (DS) indices are analyzed. From the spatial perspective, drought in the northwestern area is much severer than that in other areas of Qinghai. According to the results of temporal analysis by using the Mann–Kendall test, the number of very long DSs, maximum length of DS, mean length of DSs, and the total dry days of extreme DS all decrease. All these results verify that the warm dry climatic pattern in Qinghai can be changed into the warm wet climatic pattern.

Abstract:Based on 205 stations daily precipitation datasets and the characteristic parameters of the Meiyu period in low-middle reach of Yangtze River from 1960 to 2004,the rainfall,the precipitation-concentration degree(PCD) and precipitation-concentration period(PCP) of rainstorm event were calculated to analyze their heterogeneous characteristics,mainly including spatial and temporal distributions.It is proved that the precipitation and day of rainstorm increase heavily,but the PCD and PCP do not have the notable change.One of the important reasons that the great drought and great flood is made heavier in the lower reaches of Yangtze River is resulted from adding the precipitation and PCP of rainstorm including spatial and temporal distributions.

Abstract:It is of great significance to study the characteristics and change trends of drought in Xinjiang to provide a basis for implementing local strategies. Based on monthly precipitation and temperature data from 95 meteorological stations in Xinjiang, from 1960 to 2018, the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) was calculated, and the characteristics and trends of drought in Xinjiang were analysed, in details. Furthermore, a comprehensive evaluation index, i.e., Regional Drought Severity (RDS), was proposed to analyse the effects of duration of the drought and the extent of the drought affected area. The results from our study suggested: (1) In consideration of global warming, droughts in Xinjiang have intensified during the past 59 years, and the frequency and range of droughts have increased significantly; (2) During the plant growing season, spring, summer, and autumn, a drying trend was observed, while, a wetting trend was identified for winter season; (3) The drought-prone months shifted from January and December to March-November in the 1970s, and April was identified as a month with the highest frequency of droughts; (4) The meteorological change occurred a period near 1997. It can be speculated that the intensified droughts can be triggered by the excessive temperature rise, through comparing the changes in SPEI and the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), before and after the meteorological change; (5) After the meteorological change, the frequency of droughts with different levels had significantly increased, in addition, the drought-prone areas shifted from the north-west to the south-east. The results from this research provide important support for drought management in Xinjiang, also offer scientific basis for the formulation of relevant policies on agricultural and animal husbandry production.

Abstract:By using the daily precipitation data from 48 meteorological stations in Zhujiang basin from 1961 to 2008,the temporal and spatial characteristics of precipitation were discussed and mechanism in typical years was analyzed. Analysis results showed that precipitation amount is plentiful,but day numbers is small in the east of Zhujiang basin,while the west is contrary. On the whole,precipitation is changeable in recent 10 a. Moreover,the difference of typical rainy years is further discussed. It was found that the heavy typical years are always caused by heavy rainfall. In heavy precipitation years,enriched vapor transport comes from bay of Bengal and South China Sea;the summerly precipitation makes a greater contribution to the yearly precipitation; more tropical cyclones make landfall in the basin and they mainly come from the Western Pacific,causing heavy precipitation; the summerly west position of Pacific subtropical high helps to transport water vapor to basin from the Pacific,but it is contrary in weak years.

Abstract:The monthly rainfall data from the key stations from1961 to 2010 in Yongkang City have been analyzed with Mann-Kendall nonparametric test method and R/S analysis method to clarify the variation characteristics and the rules.The results show that in the past 50 years,the rainfall in Yongkang city has shown a rising trend with the rainfall increase in the 7 months of January,March,May,July,August,November and December,and the rainfall in August has the most obvious upward trend;the rainfall in the other 5 months has decreased.The upward trend will have positive continuity in the future,and the strongest signs have shown in the months of January,June,August and December.

Abstract:Introduction: With global warming, the disaster losses caused by extreme precipitation events are increasing. The poor natural conditions and climate change make the arid and semi-arid mountainous grassland area a sensitive region of climate change. The study on the spatio-temporal variation characteristics of extreme precipitation events in this region is helpful to improve the ability of climate prediction and disaster prevention and reduction in grassland. Methods: Based on the daily precipitation data of four meteorological monitoring stations in the Yinshanbeilu from 1970 to 2020, the trend analysis, M-K test and wavelet analysis were used to select seven typical extreme precipitation indicators to analyze the temporal and spatial characteristics of extreme precipitation. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the precipitation in the Yinshanbeilu increased in the past 51a, and the number of heavy rain days increased significantly. The significance test of CDD and CWD showed that the number of continuous dry days and continuous wet days decreased abruptly. The spatial analysis showed that the high value areas of R95p, R95d and PRCRTOT were all located in Siziwang Banner, and it could be concluded that the extreme precipitation risk was the highest in Siziwang Banner, while the low value areas of SDII, Rx1day, R95p and PRCRTOT were all located in Sonid Right Banner, which could be inferred that the Sonid Right Banner was relatively dry. The first main cycle of the seven indexes of extreme precipitation almost runs through the whole time series, and the starting point of the minimum main cycle changes inconsistent. In addition to the number of consecutive dry days, the other indices have a good correlation with annual precipitation, flood season and monthly precipitation from June to September, and July is the peak period of extreme precipitation events.

Trend Analysis of Temperature and Precipitation in Sanjiangyuan Region of Qinghai Province

Abstract:Based on the temperature and precipitation data of 18 meteorological stations in the Sanjiangyuan area of Qinghai Province from 1961 to 2013,Thyssen polygons,coefficient of variation,inverse distance weight method and nonparametric Mann-Kendall and other detection methods were used to analyze the characteristics of precipitation and climate changes in the Sanjiangyuan area.The results show that the interannual variability of precipitation is on an upward trend in this region,but the rate of increase is not obvious.The seasonal rainfall in the Sanjiangyuan area is obviously different,with the highest amount of rainfall in summer and the obvious linear increase in spring and summer.The changes of annual average temperature in all source areas of Sanjiangyuan show a clear upward trend,of which the Lancangjiang has the fastest growth rate,and the climate change in different source areas shows different performance;the mutation time was not synchronized.

Abstract:Daily precipitation data during the period of 1960 to 2005 from 147 rain gauging stations over the Yangtze River Basin are analyzed to investigate precipitation variations based on precipitation indices and also consecutive rainfall regimes in both space and time. Results indicate decreasing annual/monthly mean precipitation. Distinct decreases in rainfall days are observed over most parts of the Yangtze River Basin, but precipitation intensity is increasing over most parts of the Yangtze River Basin, particularly the lower Yangtze River Basin. Besides, durations of precipitation regimes are shortening; however, the fractional contribution of short-lasting precipitation regimes to the total precipitation amount is increasing. In this sense, the precipitation processes in the Yangtze River Basin are dominated by precipitation regimes of shorter durations. These results indicate intensified hydrological cycle reflected by shortening precipitation regimes. This finding is different from that in Europe where the intensifying precipitation changes are reflected mainly by lengthening precipitation regimes, implying different regional responses of hydrological cycle to climate changes. The results of this study will be of considerable relevance in basin-scale water resources management, human mitigation of natural hazards, and in understanding regional hydrological responses to changing climate at regional scales.
