What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to explore the molecular mechanisms of biofilm infections and their countermeasures. Specifically, the paper focuses on the following aspects: 1. **Molecular Basis of Biofilm Infections**: Investigating the genes, proteins, and signaling pathways involved in the formation of biofilms, and how these factors influence the survival and dissemination of microorganisms within biofilms. 2. **Microbial Communities and Pathogenicity**: Analyzing the interactions among different microorganisms within biofilms and their impact on the host, particularly how they lead to chronic or recurrent infections. 3. **Host-Pathogen Interactions**: Exploring how the host immune system responds to biofilm infections and how pathogens evade the host's defense mechanisms. 4. **Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies**: Proposing methods for early intervention and the development of targeted therapeutic strategies to improve the diagnosis and treatment of biofilm infections. Through reviews and original research, the paper discusses in detail the biofilm formation mechanisms of various microorganisms (such as Enterococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, and Streptococcus) and evaluates the anti-biofilm activity of some novel antimicrobials (such as ultra-short cyclic lipopeptides and cannabinoids). Additionally, it explores the formation of biofilms on dry hospital surfaces and their resistance to antimicrobials, providing important references for future research and clinical applications.
