Abstract:Bioinspired manganese complexes of N-4 ligands and graphene oxide (GO) synergistically catalyze the highly enantioselective epoxidation of olefins (up to 99% ee), which is a rare example with GO as a co-catalyst in asymmetric catalysis. GO as a new and key additive not only successfully functions in catalytic amounts, but also has a positive effect for improving the enantioselectivity of the asymmetric epoxidation compared with the traditional stoichiometric organic carboxylic acid method [e.g., chalcone, 95% ee (3.5 mg GO) vs. 84% ee (5 equiv., 75 mg acetic acid), ethyl cinnamate, 84% ee (3.5 mg GO) vs. 19% ee (5 equiv., 75 mg acetic acid)]. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra of GO before and after the reaction indicate that the intensities of C-O become stronger after the reaction, which may have a certain relationship with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and gives a reasonable rationale for the large consumption of H2O2. Also, part of the hydrogen peroxide was used for the oxidation of GO.

Abstract:Epoxidation of propylene to make propylene oxide catalyzed by μ-oxo-bismetalloporphyrins is investigated.The results indicate that the reaction temperature,reaction time,molar ratio of acraldehyde to propylene,and concentration and type of catalysts have significant effects on the reaction.The appropriate reaction conditions are as follows:100℃,1.5 h,500 rpm for stirring velocity,n (acraldehyde) ∶n (propylene)=0.625,catalyst concentration at 9.72×10-5mol％.The central metal and substituent group ofμ-oxo-bismetalloporphyrins also have influence on catalytic activity.The catalytic activity order of different substituent group of μ-oxo-bismetalloporphyrins are —OCH3 ＞—H＞—F.With different central metal,the catalytic activity order are Fe＞Cu.Of which the best catalytic result is given by [T(p-OCH3) PPFe] 2 O,with the yield,selectivity and conversion rate being 27.31％,93.95％ and 29.06％ respectively.

Abstract:An efficient and versatile method for the enantioselective epoxidation of both tertiary allylic and homoallylic alcohols catalyzed by Hf(IV)-bishydroxamic acid (BHA) complexes is described. Asymmetric epoxidation, kinetic resolution, and desymmetrization have been developed, demonstrating the flexible nature of the Hf(IV)-BHA system. This is the first report in which these substrates were obtained with enantioselectivities of up to 99%.

Abstract:In this report, zirconium(IV)- and hafnium(IV)-bishydroxamic acid complexes were utilized in the highly enantioselective epoxidation of homoallylic alcohols and bishomoallylic alcohols, which used to be quite difficult substrates for other types of asymmetric epoxidation reactions. The performance of the catalyst was improved by adding polar additive and molecular sieves. For homoallylic alcohols, the reaction could provide epoxy alcohols in up to 83% yield and up to 98% ee, while, for bishomoallylic alcohols, up to 79% yield and 99% ee of epoxy alcohols rather than cyclized tetrahydrofuran compounds could be obtained in most cases.

Abstract:The novel ionic liquid with multi-SO3H groups has been synthesized through the simple procedure and its catalytic activity for the oxathioacetalization was investigated carefully at room temperature under solvent-free condition. The results showed that the novel ionic liquid was very efficient for the reactions with the average yields over 90%. Mild reaction conditions, high yields, small amount of usage, operational simplicity, needless of any solvent, wide applicability, reusability and chemoselectivity are the key features of this methodology.

Abstract:An environmentally benign oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde with hydrogen peroxide as oxidant and metal dodecanesulfonate salts as catalysts was conducted under solvent-free condition by biphasic catalysis. Ferric tridodecanesulfonate showed excellent catalytic activity exhibiting complete conversion of benzyl alcohol with 194.4mol/molcat turnover number (TON) and nearly 100% selectivity to benzaldehyde at ambient pressure and 90°C. This catalyst can be recovered and reused for three times without a significant loss in its activity and selectivity.

Abstract:Epoxidized oils are eco-friendly plasticizers, which are industrially produced through the epoxidation reaction in a formic acid-hydrogen peroxide autocatalyzed system. The fundamental knowledge to describe the phase equilibrium of systems after epoxidation reaction is lacking, which is crucial for the design of the purification facilities. This work reported experimental data for the liquid-liquid equilibrium of three systems, i.e., epoxidized fatty acid methyl esters + formic acid + water, epoxidized fatty acid 2-ethylhexyl esters + formic acid + water, and epoxidized soybean oil + formic acid + water, in the temperature range (303.15-348.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The results indicated that the liquid-liquid equilibrium constant of formic acid in the systems followed the order of epoxidized fatty acid 2-ethylhexyl esters > epoxidized fatty acid methyl esters > epoxidized soybean oil. Moreover, the obtained experimental data were correlated using nonrandom two liquid (NRTL) and universal quasi chemical (UNIQUAC) models. The maximum root mean square deviation (RMSD) values as low as 0.0052 and 0.0263 were estimated using the NRTL and UNIQUAC model, respectively. The NRTL model is more suitable than the UNIQUAC model to describe the liquid-liquid equilibrium behavior of these ternary systems.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol at room temperature under solvent-free condition. The results showed that the novel multi-SO 3 H functionalized ionic liquid was very efficient for the reactions with the good to excellent yields in short time. Operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, room temperature, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions, reusability and chemoselectivity are the key features of this methodology.

Abstract:The epoxidation of alkenes has altered and reshaped the way scientists think in modern organic synthesis. Herein, a novel, sustainable and eco‐friendly protocol for the epoxidation of alkenes is reported, utilizing hydrogen peroxide as the green oxidant and, for the first time, hydroxamic acid derivatives as the organocatalyst. The presented methodology is very effective, leading to good to high yields for the oxidation of a variety of olefins, while various functional groups are well tolerated. Mechanistic studies utilizing direct infusion high resolution mass spectrometry (DI‐HRMS) provide strong evidence for the mechanism of the organocatalytic oxidation.

Abstract:The development of inexpensive and effective catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins to epoxides, key commodities for the chemical industry, is a continuing challenge. In this context, we present a supramolecular solution with the development of new host‐guest assemblies of sulfate ions and amidoammonium receptor cations that, for the first time, are shown to act as catalysts for olefin epoxidation by hydrogen peroxide under biphasic conditions. Analysis of the reaction mechanism shows that reactive and oxidizing peroxymonosulfate is formed in the organic phase. Furthermore, a variety of readily available precursors may be used to form the guest supramolecular cations, so enabling large scale synthesis of the catalysts while maintaining catalytic control and effectiveness.

Abstract:A series of Fe(III) Schiff base complexes immobilized on MCM-41 were prepared and characterized by various physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. The complexes were used for oxidation of cyclohexene by 30% hydrogen peroxide in the presence and absence of ethylmethyl imidazolium chloride (EMIM) ionic liquid as solvent. The immobilized complexes proved to be effective catalysts and generally exhibited much higher catalytic performance than their homogeneous analogue. Catalytic performance of the complexes was also found to be closely related to the Schiff base ligands used. Additionally, ion liquid solvent efficiently improved all the catalytic performances. Finally, the reaction was extended to different alkenes using the heterogeneous complex 2-L4. Among all the alkenes, those containing π-electron-withdrawing groups and trans-orientations exhibited lower tendency for oxidation.Graphical AbstractA series of Fe(III) Schiff base complexes immobilized on MCM-41 were prepared and used for oxidation of cyclohexene by 30% hydrogen peroxide. Abstract:Active transition metal species (Co, Cu, Cr, Ni or Mn) supported on a chemically modified silica gel are used as heterogeneous catalysts in a range of Liquid phase oxidation reactions: alkyl aromatic side chain oxidations, epoxidations of alkenes and Baeyer-Villiger oxidations of linear ketones to esters and cyclic ketones to lactones. The catalyst employs metal centres bound to the silica surface via a hydrophobic spacer chain and is thus chemically robust and has a relatively high loading for a supported reagent (c 0.4mmolg(-1)). The Cr version of the catalyst promotes the oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone in a solvent-free system at a rate of 5.5% h(-1) (>370 turnover h(-1)). It is also active for the oxidation of p-chlorotoluene and p-xylene to p-chlorobenzoic acid and p-toluic acid respectively. Cyclohexene is converted to its oxide at room temperature at a rate of c 28% h(-1) (c 12 turnover h(-1)) using either the Ni or Cu versions of the catalyst. The room temperature Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of cyclohexanone is achieved at a rate of 44% h(-1) (49 turnover h(-1)) using the Ni-containing catalyst. The same material also promotes the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of linear aliphatic ketones and aromatic side chains. All the above systems use either air or molecular oxygen as the oxidant rather than peroxides or peracids. (C) 1999 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract:A mild, efficient, and eco-friendly procedure for the oxidation of organic halides to aldehydes and ketones in good to high yields catalyzed by H5IO6/V2O5 in ionic liquid [bmpy][PF6] with no trace of overoxidation to carboxylic acids has been developed. The product can be isolated by a simple extraction with organic solvent, and the catalytic system can be recycled or reused without any significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:This work presents the chemo-enzymatic Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of α-benzylcyclopentanones in ester solvents as well as deep eutectic solvents (DES). In the first part of the work the effect of selected reaction conditions on the reaction rate was determined. The oxidation process was most effective in ethyl acetate at 55 °C, with the use of lipase B from Candida antarctica immobilized on acrylic resin and UHP as oxidant. Ultimately, these preliminary studies prompted the development of an effective method for the implementation of lipase-mediated Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of benzylcyclopentanones in DES. The highest conversion was indicated when the oxidizing agent was a component of DESs (minimal DESs). The fastest conversion of ketones to lactones was observed in a mixture of choline chloride with urea hydrogen peroxide. In this case, after 3 days, the conversion of the ketones to lactones products exceeded 92% for all substrates. As a result, two new lactones were obtained and fully characterized by spectroscopic data.

Abstract:Two carboxylic functionalized poly(ionic liquids) and polyoxometalate ionic self-assemblies with tunable amphiphilic and oxidative activity and porous structure were designed and synthesized. They were used as efficient heterogeneous catalysts exhibiting excellent catalytic activity and quite stable reusability in additive–free Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of cyclic ketones, directly using 30% H2O2 solution in liquids–phase. Under optimum conditions, the corresponding lactones were obtained with yields ranging from 59.6 to 90.5%. The unique combination of carboxylic group with polyoxometalate anion, amphiphilic property, and porous structure is revealed to be responsible for their excellent catalytic performances in oxidation.

Abstract:<p>A set of heteropolyacid-based ionic heterogeneous catalysts ((m)) have been synthesized by intercalated heteropolyanions in ionic liquid (IL)-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) via amino-protonation and/or anion-exchange reaction. This immobilization method offered improved dispersity, accessibility and stability of active sites. The amphipathic nature of IL-GO sheets and porosity of (m) are beneficial to reducing mass transfer limitation in a water/organic substrate two-phase system. Then, these obtained hybrids were employed as efficient and robust catalysts for the selective oxidation of alcohols into carbonyl compounds using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant under organic solvent-free condition. As expected, (m) catalysts showed even much better activity than the corresponding homogeneous HPW (phosphotungstic acid) catalyst. Particularly, (1.5) gave a benzyl alcohol conversion of 94% and benzaldehyde chemoselectivity of 91%. Moreover, owing to the heterogeneous nature and strong cation–anion interactions between cationic supporter and PW anions, the as-prepared catalyst presented advantages of convenient recovery, simple preparation and steady reuse, further providing the industrial application potential in sustainable oxidation reactions.</p>
