Abstract:Secret sharing is a promising technology for information encryption by splitting the secret information into different shares. However, the traditional scheme suffers from information leakage in decryption process since the amount of available information channels is limited. Herein, we propose and demonstrate an optical secret sharing framework based on the multi-dimensional multiplexing liquid crystal (LC) holograms. The LC holograms are used as spatially separated shares to carry secret images. The polarization of the incident light and the distance between different shares are served as secret keys, which can significantly improve the information security and capacity. Besides, the decryption condition is also restricted by the applied external voltage due to the variant diffraction efficiency, which further increases the information security. In implementation, an artificial neural network (ANN) model is developed to carefully design the phase distribution of each LC hologram. With the advantage of high security, high capacity and simple configuration, our optical secret sharing framework has great potentials in optical encryption and dynamic holographic display.

Abstract:Visual cryptography provides a very powerful technique by which one secret can be distributed into two or more pieces known as shares. When the shares on transparencies are superimposed exactly together the original secret can be discovered without computer participation. In this paper, we take multiple secrets into consideration, and generate a master key for all the secrets; correspondingly, we share each secret using the master key and obtain multiple shares. We merge these shares into a combined share, we adjust the master key and generate a new key. The secrets are revealed when the key is superimposed on the combined share in different locations using the proposed scheme. We provide the corresponding results in this paper.

Abstract:An almost unexplored research topic in visual secret sharing (VSS), i.e., sharing different visual secrets among various groups, is investigated in this article. Generally, multiple groups are cooperated together to encrypt multiple visual secrets, where every group is correlated with a VSS scheme to share one secret and each participant receives only one shadow. Such a cooperative system is referred to as cooperative VSS (CVSS). In this paper, we develop a general construction for CVSS with improved computational overhead. The basis matrices for generating the shadows are easily obtained. To improve the recovered image quality, an efficient XOR-based CVSS (XCVSS) is given. Furthermore, to fulfill the requirement of implementing complex sharing policy, the XCVSS is extended to collaborate general access structure (GAS) VSS schemes together. Theoretical and experimental results and comparisons are illustrated to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed techniques.
High Capacity Data Hiding In Reversible Secret Sharing

Abstract:Recently, a reversible secret sharing scheme has been developed for encrypting a secret image in a set of camouflage images. The key advantage lies in that both the secret and cover images can be accurately reconstructed during decryption. This paper proposes a high capacity data hiding scheme integrated in reversible secret sharing. In secret sharing, some extra confidential data are also hidden in camouflage images by means of a double module mechanism. As a multilevel histogram shifting strategy is employed, a high capacity can be achieved. In the decoder, not only the cover and secret images but also the confidential data can be perfectly recovered. The confidential data can be some affiliated information of the secret image or for validity authentication. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The secret image is multitoned into several levels first. An extended non-expansion visual secret sharing model is employed, i.e. size of transparencies is equal to that of the secret image. Abstract:A circular quantum secret sharing protocol is proposed, which is useful and efficient when one of the parties of secret sharing is remote to the others who are in adjacent, especially the parties are more than three. We describe the process of this protocol and discuss its security when the quantum information carrying is polarized single photons running circularly. It will be shown that entanglement is not necessary for quantum secret sharing. Moreover, the theoretic efficiency is improved to approach 100% as almost all the instances can be used for generating the private key, and each photon can carry one bit of information without quantum storage. It is straightforwardly to utilize this topological structure to complete quantum secret sharing with multi-level two-particle entanglement in high capacity securely.

Abstract:Quantum secret sharing is widely applied in the fields, such as communications and data transmission. In this paper, we propose an authenticable dynamic quantum multi-secret sharing scheme based on the Chinese remainder theorem. In our scheme, the dynamic update of the participants set is permissible without changing the shared secret. To share multi-secret, the distributor generates corresponding shares based on the Chinese remainder theorem and monotone span program, and the GHZ state acts as the information carrier traveling among the participants in the authorization set; the participants utilize the Hadamard operator and Pauli operators to embed their shares in the traveling particles. In this way, the participants will reconstruct multiple secrets. Furthermore, the proposed quantum digital signature algorithm based on entanglement swapping is utilized to realize the identity authentication between participants. The security analysis shows that the proposed scheme can resist intercept-resend attack, entanglement-measurement attack, internal dishonest participant attack, add or withdraw participant attack, and denial attack.

Abstract:Secret sharing of a quantum state, or quantum secret sharing, in which a dealer wants to share certain amount of quantum information with a few players, has wide applications in quantum information. The critical criterion in a threshold secret sharing scheme is confidentiality, with less than the designated number of players, no information can be recovered. Furthermore, in a quantum scenario, one additional critical criterion exists, the capability of sharing entangled and unknown quantum information. Here by employing a six-photon entangled state, we demonstrate a quantum threshold scheme, where the shared quantum secrecy can be efficiently reconstructed with a state fidelity as high as 93%. By observing that any one or two parties cannot recover the secrecy, we show that our scheme meets the confidentiality criterion. Meanwhile, we also demonstrate that entangled quantum information can be shared and recovered via our setting, which demonstrates that our implemented scheme is fully quantum. Moreover, our experimental setup can be treated as a decoding circuit of the 5-qubit quantum error-correcting code with two erasure errors.

Abstract:Visual secret sharing (VSS) has the advantage that the decryption is based on our human visual system without participation of any computational devices. However, traditional VSS schemes are only for sharing raster images with regard to pixels, which lead to that the secret image will be aliased when enlarged and its pixels are shared in rectangular way only. In this paper, we will introduce a VSS scheme for vectorized images based on Penrose tiling. Penrose tiling is with the merits of vectorization and nonperiodicity. These properties are applied to the proposed scheme so as to share those vectorized images; the basic unit of secret sharing could be any graphical shapes instead of pixels or rectangular regions only in the traditional methods. Our experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:The main weakness of entanglement is its sensitiveness to the photon loss. In this paper, we exploit the different transmission losses of the free-space and optical fiber quantum channels, to develop a novel approach for (2,3) threshold quantum secret sharing (QSS) of classical information. To be exact, the Dealer Alice allocates W-state to three participants Bob, Charlie and David in terms of the asymmetric losses of their quantum channels, preventing any one participant from recovering the secret alone, but allowing any two of them to recover the secret. In such a way, Alice can flexibly choose the suitable degree of freedom to allocate the quantum shares with respect to the loss characteristics of different quantum channels. Our proposed scheme improves the information capacity from three bits to <span class="mathjax-tex">$(\log _{2} m+2)$</span> bits, where <i>m</i> denotes the dimension of orbital angular momentum, and improves the security and flexibility of quantum communication, confirming QSS as a realistic technology for safeguarding secret shares in transmission. This work opens a convenient and favorable way to perform QSS.

Abstract:Cascaded holography coupled with the secret-sharing scheme has recently gained considerable attention due to its enhanced information processing and encryption capabilities. Here, we propose a new holographic iterative algorithm and present the implementation of cascaded liquid crystal (LC) holography for optical encryption. Each LC layer acts as the secret key and can generate a distinct holographic image. By cascading two LC elements, a new holographic image is formed. Additionally, we showcase the dynamic optical encryption achieved by electrically switching LCs with combined electric keys. This work may offer promising applications in optical cryptography, all-optical computing, and data storage.

Abstract:In this Letter, we present quantum secret sharing and secret splitting protocols with single photons running forth and back between the participating parties. The protocol has a high intrinsic efficiency, namely all photons except those chosen for eavesdropping check could be used for sharing secret. The participants need not to announce the measuring bases at most of the time and this reduces the classical information exchanged largely.

Abstract:The need for secrecy and security is essential in communication. Secret sharing is a conventional protocol to distribute a secret message to a group of parties, who cannot access it individually but need to cooperate in order to decode it. While several variants of this protocol have been investigated, including realizations using quantum systems, the security of quantum secret sharing schemes still remains unproven almost two decades after their original conception. Here we establish an unconditional security proof for entanglement-based continuous-variable quantum secret sharing schemes, in the limit of asymptotic keys and for an arbitrary number of players. We tackle the problem by resorting to the recently developed one-sided device-independent approach to quantum key distribution. We demonstrate theoretically the feasibility of our scheme, which can be implemented by Gaussian states and homodyne measurements, with no need for ideal single-photon sources or quantum memories. Our results contribute to validating quantum secret sharing as a viable primitive for quantum technologies.

Abstract:Unclonable cryptography utilizes the principles of quantum mechanics to addresses cryptographic tasks that are impossible classically. We introduce a novel unclonable primitive in the context of secret sharing, called unclonable secret sharing (USS). In a USS scheme, there are $n$ shareholders, each holding a share of a classical secret represented as a quantum state. They can recover the secret once all parties (or at least $t$ parties) come together with their shares. Importantly, it should be infeasible to copy their own shares and send the copies to two non-communicating parties, enabling both of them to recover the secret. Our work initiates a formal investigation into the realm of unclonable secret sharing, shedding light on its implications, constructions, and inherent limitations. ** Connections: We explore the connections between USS and other quantum cryptographic primitives such as unclonable encryption and position verification, showing the difficulties to achieve USS in different scenarios. **Limited Entanglement: In the case where the adversarial shareholders do not share any entanglement or limited entanglement, we demonstrate information-theoretic constructions for USS. **Large Entanglement: If we allow the adversarial shareholders to have unbounded entanglement resources (and unbounded computation), we prove that unclonable secret sharing is impossible. On the other hand, in the quantum random oracle model where the adversary can only make a bounded polynomial number of queries, we show a construction secure even with unbounded entanglement. Furthermore, even when these adversaries possess only a polynomial amount of entanglement resources, we establish that any unclonable secret sharing scheme with a reconstruction function implementable using Cliffords and logarithmically many T-gates is also unattainable.

Abstract:The main defects of the existing quantum secret sharing schemes are as follows: (1) The identity of the secret sender cannot be confirmed. Receivers of shared secret information may be vulnerable to Trojan attacks; (2) If a malicious attacker Eve impersonates the identity of the receiver, she can finally obtain all the information of the secret that Alice shared; (3) In the process of secret recovery, it is necessary to transmit qubits among all participants involved in secret recovery. Sometimes, the same particle needs to be operated on by all participants to achieve secret sharing, which increases the possibility of eavesdropping and also increases the probability of errors. In this work, we proposed a quantum secret sharing scheme with authentication, the receiver performs corresponding operations on qubits of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ) state based on the key string calculated by the shared identity number and random Error Correction Code(ECC), the secret sender can calculate the corresponding measurement basis(MB) through the information she has, and then inform the measurement party. This process realizes the mutual authentication between the sender and the receiver. It can protect against identity impersonation attacks, through the ECC verification, it also can resist intercept-resend attacks.

Abstract:An protocol of quantum secret sharing between multiparty and multiparty with four states is presented. We show that this protocol can make the Trojan horse attack with a multi-photon signal, the fake-signal attack with EPR pairs, the attack with single photons, and the attack with invisible photons to be nullification. In addition, we also give the upper bounds of the average success probabilities for dishonest agent eavesdropping encryption using the fake-signal attack with any two-particle entangled states.

Abstract:Traditional secret sharing schemes involve complex computation. A visual secret sharing (VSS) scheme decodes the secret without computation, but each shadow is m times as big as the original. Probabilistic VSS solved the computation complexity and space complexity problems at once. In this paper we propose a probabilistic (2,n) scheme for binary images and a deterministic (n,n) scheme for grayscale images. Both use simple Boolean operations and both have no pixel expansion. The (2,n) scheme provides a better contrast and significantly smaller recognized areas than other methods. The (n,n) scheme gives an exact reconstruction.

Abstract:Quantum secret sharing (QSS) is a multi-party quantum communication mode, which allows the dealer to split a key into several parts and send each part of a key to a participant. The participants can obtain the key only by cooperation. Entanglement swapping is a promising method to construct the entanglement channel. In the paper, we propose a multiple-participant measurement-device-independent QSS protocol based on entanglement swapping. All the measurement tasks are handed over to an untrusted measurement party, so that our protocol can resist all possible attacks from imperfect measurement devices. Our protocol requires the linear-optical Bell state analysis, which is easy to operate. Our protocol has application potential in the future quantum communication field.
