Abstract:Objectives: While suicidal behavior often manifests in adolescence and early adulthood, some people first attempt suicide in late life, often with remarkable lethal intent and determination. Given these individuals' more adaptive functioning earlier in life, they may possess traits that hinder adjustment to aging, such as high conscientiousness, rather than impulsive-aggressive traits associated with suicidal behavior in younger adults. Methods: A cross-sectional case-control study was conducted in older adults aged ≥50 (mean: 65), divided into early- and late-onset attempters (age at first attempt ≤ or >50, mean: 31 vs 61), suicide ideators as well as non-suicidal depressed and healthy controls. Personality was assessed in terms of the five-factor model (FFM, n = 200) and five DSM personality disorders analyzed on the trait level as continuous scores (PDs, n = 160). Given our starting hypothesis about late-onset attempters, the FFM dimension conscientiousness was further tested on the subcomponent level. Results: All clinical groups displayed more maladaptive profiles than healthy subjects. Compared to depressed controls, higher neuroticism, and borderline traits characterized both suicide ideators and early-onset attempters, while only early-onset attempters further displayed lower extraversion and higher antisocial traits. Late-onset attempters were similar to depressed controls on most measures, but scored higher than them on orderliness, a conscientiousness subcomponent. Conclusions: While neuroticism, introversion, and cluster B traits are prominent in early-onset suicidal behavior, late-onset cases generally lack these features. In contrast, higher levels of orderliness in late-onset suicidal behavior are compatible with the age-selective maladjustment hypothesis. Key points Personality of elderly attempters differed between those with early- and late-onset first attempts. Early-onset attempters possessed personality traits generally found in younger suicidal populations (high neuroticism, low extraversion, antisocial, and borderline PD traits), supporting that constitutional suicide risk factors persist into late life in some individuals. Late-onset suicide attempters had higher levels of orderliness than non-suicidal depressed participants, suggesting that this generally adaptive trait may facilitate suicidal behavior in a subset of depressed elderly.
Developing a patient education method - the e-Knowledge Test with feedback.

Abstract:Breast cancer and its treatment radiotherapy, have impact on woman's psychosocial and physical well-being causing disruption to quality of life. Because of the positive effects of knowledge on quality of life there is a challenge to develop effective education methods. Due to the growing use of internet among breast cancer patients the development should be focused on e-education. An e-education method, the e-Knowledge Test of radiotherapy with feedback for breast cancer patients (e-KTRT-BC) was planned and piloted. The content of it based on literature of breast cancer patients' knowledge needs of radiotherapy and structured through aspects of empowerment as a nursing intervention. The face validity study that was conducted via email revealed that the content of e-KTRC-BC was easy to use and understand. The e-KTRT-BC could be used as an e-education method to meet the breast cancer patients' knowledge needs. Evaluating the empowering effect of patient e-education with feedback is important for further development of e-education methods.

Abstract:In article the personal risk factors and internal protective factors of the suicide behavior on an example of psychological features of the women who have made attempted suicide (n=40, age 38,6±5,1 years), in comparison with control group are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the need to predict the commission of repeated suicide attempts, as well as the urgency of psychocorrective and psychotherapeutic assistance. Methods of research: R. Kettell’s 16-factor personality questionnaire (16-FLO, form C), S. Rosenzweig’s test of drawing association (frustration reactions). Rosenzweig, P. I. Junatzkevich’s test «SR-45» (detection of propensity to suicidal reactions). Using an anonymous questionnaire, socio-demographic indicators were recorded: age, marital status, number of children, level of education and professional employment. Statistical analysis of empirical data was carried out in the program «SPSS Statistics, ver. 19.0» using Mann-Whitney U-criterion (p≤0.05) and Pearson’s r-correlation coefficient (p=0.05; p=0.01). As a result of the study, it was found that psychological risk factors for suicidal behavior (in the context of the significance of the situation experienced), are socio-demographic and personal characteristics: loneliness, lack of work; reticence, secrecy, aloofness, non-sociability, emotional lability, impulsivity, weak willful self-control, pessimism, anxiety, social passivity, non-self-sufficiency, need for support from others, timidity, dependence, low self-esteem, willingness to take the blame for themselves, not In individual work, it is necessary to work through current and past traumatic experiences, using an integrative approach (methods of body-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, existential and Gestalt therapy, transactional analysis, techniques of neurolinguistic programming, etc.). After normalization of the somatic and emotional state, group psychotherapy is indicated, for example, in the form of training in communicative competence, self-esteem, stress-resistance, etc., in order to form constructive skills for resolving conflict situations and overcoming difficulties in life.
A longitudinal study of adolescent pathways differentiating suicide ideation and attempt in early adulthood

Abstract:Objective Suicide ideation and attempt are leading risk factors for mortality in young adults. However, the adolescent risk factors distinguishing suicide ideation from attempt in young adults remain unclear. The present study aimed to examine the extent to which within‐person stability and change in depressive symptoms, school difficulties, and peer victimization from ages 12 to 17 were differentially associated with later suicide ideation and attempt from ages 20 to 23. Method The study included 1647 participants from the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD; 52% female). Participants reported on their depressive symptoms, school difficulties, and peer victimization at ages 12, 13, 15, and 17, and on suicide ideation and attempt at ages 20 and 23. Data were collected in the Province of Quebec, Canada, between 2010 and 2021. Results Results indicated that 11% (N = 121) and 8% (N = 86) reported suicide ideation and attempt, respectively, between ages 20 and 23. A random‐intercept cross‐lagged panel model showed that within‐person increases in depressive symptoms during adolescence were related to both suicide ideation and attempt, whereas within‐person increases in school difficulties and peer victimization were for the most part related to suicide attempt only. Within‐person stability in depressive symptoms from ages 12 to 17 years were also related to suicide attempt, and not ideation. However, this association was only marginally significant. Conclusion Findings suggest that experiencing unusual rises in school difficulties and peer victimization during adolescence, as well as depressive symptoms persisting over time, may distinguish young adults who think about suicide from those who attempt suicide.

Abstract:We investigated associations between suicide ideation and a set of potential risk and resiliency factors in a heterogeneous sample of 107 older adults (mean age = 81.5 years, SD = 7.7 years; range, 67 to 98 years; 76% female) recruited in community, residential, and healthcare settings. Participants completed the Geriatric Suicide Ideation Scale (GSIS; Heisel & Flett, 2006) and measures of depression, perceived physical health problems, domains of psychological well-being, perceived meaning in life, and indices of social network and of religious affiliation and observance. The main findings indicated that suicide ideation was associated positively with depression and with number of self-reported physical health problems and negatively with domains of psychological well-being including positive relations with others and self-acceptance, and with perceived meaning in life. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses indicated that the resiliency factors in general, and perceived meaning in life in particular, explained significant added variance in suicide ideation over and above measures of mental and physical health problems. These findings suggest potential value in attending to both suicide risk and resiliency when assessing late-life suicide ideation and when developing interventions for older adults at risk for suicide.

Perceived burdensomeness is associated with low-lethality suicide attempts, dysfunctional interpersonal style, and younger rather than older age

Abstract:Objectives: Perceived burdensomeness is thought to contribute to suicide risk. However, suicidal behavior is clinically and psychologically heterogeneous. Does a high level of perceived burdensomeness differentiate medically serious suicidal acts, most closely resembling death by suicide, from less serious ones? How is perceived burdensomeness related to dysfunctional personality dimensions implicated in suicide? We sought to answer these questions in a cross-sectional, case-control study of adults, aged 42 years or older (n = 165). Methods: Participants were suicidal depressed with history of high-lethality and low-lethality attempts, depressed with serious suicidal ideation, depressed non-suicidal, and psychiatrically healthy controls. Following detailed clinical characterization, we assessed perceived burdensomeness, the Big Five, impulsivity, and anger rumination. Results: Low-lethality attempters reported the highest levels of perceived burdensomeness, followed by ideators, high-lethality attempters, non-suicidal depressed, and healthy controls. Group differences were robust to confounders, including demographics, severity of depression, and physical illness burden. In suicide attempters, perceived burdensomeness scaled positively with neuroticism, impulsivity, and anger and negatively with extraversion, conscientiousness, and age. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that perceived burdensomeness is most prominent in a subgroup of younger individuals with lower-lethality suicide attempts and a dysfunctional interpersonal style. Older adults with high-lethality attempts are surprisingly more resilient to the feelings of burdensomeness. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:Background: Contradictory findings link trait conscientiousness in mid- and late life to increased healthspan and lifespan, as well as to death by suicide. It remains unclear whether conscientiousness is associated with higher odds of attempting suicide or with more severe suicidal behavior among attempters, and whether its relationship to suicide risk varies with aging-related stressors, such as declining health. Methods: In this cross-sectional study comprising 313 depressed adults aged ≥40 years and participating in the Longitudinal Research Program in Late-Life Suicide (Pittsburgh, USA), we employed logistic and linear regression to test whether conscientiousness was associated with the presence of recent suicidal behavior (≤2 years) and with intent severity in recent attempters (n = 84). We further tested whether the above relationships varied based on mental, cognitive, and physical health status, measured as depression severity, cognitive functioning, and the presence/absence of severe physical illness. Results: Participants were 62.1 years old on average (SD = 7.6), 85% White, and 53% female. Recent attempters had a mean age of 61.8 years at their most recent attempt (SD = 8.5), had lower cognitive functioning and were more likely severely physically ill than comparisons. Conscientiousness was positively associated with a higher likelihood of recent suicidal behavior overall (adjusted OR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.09, 1.90, p = .010), but not in case of co-occurring severe physical illness (interaction OR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.30, 0.97, p = .039). Conscientiousness was also positively associated with suicidal intent at the most recent attempt (adjusted β = 1.60, SE = 0.62, p = .012), explaining 7% of its variance, although this association lost significance after adjusting for other personality dimensions. Conclusions: Highly conscientious middle-aged and older adults may be at increased risk of resolute suicidal behavior, although conscientiousness may not confer additional suicide risk among those severely physically ill.
Entrapment and social problem-solving in suicidal behavior across the adult lifespan

Abstract:Background: Feelings of entrapment and deficits in social problem-solving skills have been associated with risk for suicidal behavior in the context of depression. However, few studies have examined the effect of age on the association between these risk factors and suicidal behavior across most of the adult lifespan. Methods: In a three-site study, we tested interactions of age with feelings of entrapment and social problem-solving style in 105 depressed patients with a recent suicide attempt, 95 depressed patients with no history of suicide attempt, and 97 demographically similar non-psychiatric participants (age 16-80). Attempter/non-attempter differences, age interactions, and the relative contribution of entrapment and social problem-solving style to past attempter were examined. Results: Entrapment significantly interacted with age such that it discriminated past attempters from depressed non-attempters better at older ages. Social Problem-Solving Inventory (SPSI) total score and most subscales did not distinguish past attempters, but the SPSI Impulsive Style Problem-Solving was an effective discriminator of past suicide attempts across the full adult lifespan and did not interact with age. In a multipredictor model, both the entrapment by age interaction and SPSI Impulsive Style Problem-Solving score were significant predictors for the classification of attempters. Limitations: The cross-sectional nature of our research design limited conclusions that may be drawn about individual change over time or cohort effects. Conclusions: Entrapment did not distinguish past attempters at younger ages but became a better discriminator in middle to late adulthood. An impulsive problem-solving style was associated with past suicide attempts across the full adult lifespan.

Abstract:The present study sought to explore motivations (affective, relationships, life events, injury/medical diagnosis) in suicide notes ( N = 49) from the U.S. Authors ranged in age from 18 to 74 years and were majority male (73.5%). Four raters analyzed the notes and, through a series of meetings, came to a consensus on the motives behind each note writers' suicide in terms of the broader motivational themes and the narrower second-level themes. All notes were primarily affectional in nature, with some gender and age differences. For example, suicide notes from males frequently refer to financial hardships whereas suicide notes from females were more focused on lowered self-worth and notes written by younger persons focused more on affect and relationships, while notes written by older adults focused on life events and marriage difficulties and separation. Findings illuminate the varied nature of suicide motivations but also highlight important patterns across groups.

Abstract:Introduction Introduction: Affective patients, especially depressive, have an increased risk of suicidal behavior. Identifying individuals at increased risk remains a challenge. Among the correlates that may be crucial, the impact of personality is emphasized. Attention is paid to impulsivity, measured by subjective or objective tests. Objectives Objectives: Comparative analyses were carried out to capture the differences and relationship between personality dimensions, impulsivity, and the decision-making style and coping with stress strategies in suicide attempters and non-attempters in the course of an affective disorder. Methods Methods: Data were obtained from 276 individuals diagnosed with unipolar and bipolar affective disorder, both sexes. The study group was disaggregated into a subgroup of patients with (N=95) and without (N=181) suicide attempts in an individual's history. The Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) was used to assess personality dimensions. The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale version 11 (BIS-11) was used to measure impulsivity subjectively, and the Simple Reaction Time (SRT) test and the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) were objective assessment methods. The Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced (COPE) and Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) were applied to investigate coping and decision-making styles. Statistical analyses were performed in Statistica 13.3 StatSoft, Krakow, Poland. Results Results: In TCI, significant differences between suicide attempters and non-attempters concerned the following dimensions: harm avoidance (HA) (p= 0.05) with at least moderate strength rs>0.4 were revealed: Novelty seeking (NS), SD, and C correlated with several CPT parameters; Persistence (P) correlated with SRT variables; NS, HA and SD with BIS-11 variables. Conclusions Conclusions: Objective computerized tests (SRT; CPT; IGT) did not differentiate suicide attempters and non-attempters more clearly than self-reporting personality inventory TCI. Personality traits correlated with SRT and CPT variables. BIS-11 and COPE parameters did not enable to distinguish suicide attempters and non-attempters in the investigated group. Abstract:Objectives Increasing evidence has supported the mutual relationship between suicidal motivations and personality pathology, especially in adolescence. Distinctive aspects of personality functioning can explain the tendency to resort to suicidal ideation and behaviours, which, in turn, may play a specific role in exacerbating severe impairments in self‐regulation mechanisms that underlie personality pathology. Design This study illustrates, through two clinical cases, the clinical utility of using the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual – Second Edition (PDM‐2) to better understand distinct pathways of suicidal processes. Methods Two adolescents, named Luis and Gael, who attempted suicide multiple times were assessed using the Psychodiagnostic Chart Adolescent (PDC‐A) of the PDM‐2 to evaluate their mental functioning, emerging personality styles or syndromes, and symptom patterns. They were interviewed using the Motivational Interview for Suicidality in Adolescence (MIS‐A) to identify the motivations underpinning their suicidal behaviour. Results The results showed that Luis presented a narcissistic personality characterized by the need to deny his vulnerabilities through suicidal fantasies as a form of escape, while Gael presented a borderline personality characterized by the use of suicide attempts to express her inner and unspeakable pain. Conclusion The study seems to support the reciprocal interconnections between personality functioning and suicidal motivations that should be better identified to plan tailored and more effective interventions.

[Risk factors of suicide attempt in adults: childhood trauma, adult attachment, temperament, and character]

Abstract:Introduction: Suicide is a severe public health problem. Impacts of childhood traumas, unsecure adult attachment styles and personality traits have been suggested as possible risk factors for suicide attempts. The aim of this cross-sectional, case-controlled study is to investigate the impact of childhood traumas, adult attachment styles and personality traits on suicide attempt. Methods: The sample consisted of psychiatric patients who attempted suicide (n=101) on the one hand and those who did not attempt suicide (n=114) on the other. The questionnaires used were the Hungarian validated versions of Adult Attachment Scale (AAS), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and a demographic questionnaire. Results: Results indicated that Novelty Seeking (NS) temperament trait [EH=1.043; 95% C.I.=(0.950-1.145)] p=0.376; emotional abuse [EH=1.034; 95% C.I.=(0.966-1.107)] p=0.336; emotional neglect [EH=1.022; 95% C.I.=(0.936-1.116)] p=0.626; and sexual abuse [EH=1.047; 95% C.I.=(0.959-1.142)] p=0.305 were associated with nonsignificant increases in the odds of suicide attempts. Whereas secure attachment style [EH=0.908; 95% C.I.=(0.842-0.980)] p=0.013 appeared to be a significantly protective factor (c2(1)=6.515 p=0.011). Furthermore, when examining the connection between childhood traumas and adult attachment styles it was found that the anxious attachment style had a positive significant correlation with emotional abuse (rs(197)=0.293) p<0.001, avoidant attachment style with emotional neglect (rs(197)= 0.273) p<0.001. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that individuals with avoidant attachment style and childhood traumas are likely to present a higher suicide risk. However secure attachment style likely to present a lower risk for suicide.
Exploring the scope and structure of suicide capability

Abstract:Objective: Recent theories of suicide suggest that a construct called "capability for suicide" facilitates the progression from suicidal thoughts to attempts. Various measures of capability have been developed to assess different parts of the construct, but studies report inconsistent findings regarding reliability, validity, and structure. The present study pooled items from multiple measures to identify distinct, reliable, and valid domains of suicide capability. Method: We administered items from several suicide capability measures to an online sample of US adults (n = 387), and utilized exploratory factor analysis to identify distinct domains of capability. We then examined the internal consistencies of and intercorrelations among these domains, as well as their associations with suicide attempts. Results: Findings identified three domains of suicide capability: fearlessness about death, practical capability, and pain tolerance. These domains were internally consistent (αs = 0.80-0.92), and relatively independent from one another (intercorrelations = 0.15-0.35). Finally, each of these domains was moderately elevated among attempters compared to ideators (although only fearlessness about death and practical capability offered unique information about attempter status). Conclusions: Findings suggest that fearlessness about death, practical capability, and pain tolerance can be measured reliably, and may be relevant for understanding which ideators make attempts.
Suicide-risk-related factors in a psychiatric patient cohort: a cross sectional study on outpatients, inpatients, and therapeutic community patients

Abstract:Background: Suicide constitutes a significant global health concern. Joiner's interpersonal-psychological theory of suicide focuses on three variables: Thwarted Belongingness (TB), Perceived Burdensomeness (PB) and Acquired Capability for Suicide. Methods: A sample of 90 psychiatric patients, comprising outpatients, inpatients and individuals residing in therapeutic communities, was recruited between 2021 and 2022. Scales measuring anxiety, depression, mental pain, reasons for living, TB, PB and fearlessness about death were administered. Patients with and without suicidal ideation (SI), as well as those with and without history of suicide attempt (SA) were compared and two stepwise logistic regression models were performed. Results: Both patients with SI and with SA had higher anxiety, depression, mental pain, PB, fearlessness about death and lower self-esteem. Notably, depression, PB and beliefs about coping strategies were strongly associated with SI, while higher fearlessness about death and PB were strongly linked to history of SA. Additionally, inpatients and therapeutic community patients were at higher risk of suicide and had higher levels of depression compared to outpatients. Limitations: The small sample size and the inclusion of patients with mixed psychiatric diagnoses limit the generalizability of the findings. The cross-sectional design hinders causal hypotheses about the relationship between current SI or past SA and potential risk factors. The use of self-report measures entails biases. The analyses did not include details about pharmacological treatments. Conclusions: SA history could be explained by fearlessness about death. Improving the ability to cope with suicidal thoughts constitutes a pivotal component of therapeutic interventions with suicidal patients.
Reasoning for autonomous suicide? A qualitative approach to pre-suicidal decision-making

Abstract:The article presents empirical data concerning the meaning of freedom and autonomy in the emotional-cognitive processes that govern pre-suicidal decision-making. The data is derived from a qualitative interview study conducted between December 2012 and July 2014 on an intensive care unit in Germany. Twelve patients (three male, nine female; seven with pre-diagnosed mental illness) who had attempted suicide by intoxication were included. The narrative biographical approach chosen allows to capture the individuals' experiences preceding their decisions for suicide and provides insights into the biographical contexts of their decisions. Most strikingly, the narratives underline the essential importance of interpersonal relationships as well as an ambivalent reciprocity of cognitive and emotional processes in pre-suicidal reasoning, while ideas of autonomy and decision-making capacity traditionally address rational deliberation. This divergence between patients' subjective perceptions and scholarly conceptualisations of autonomous suicide is in line with increasing criticism of conventional approaches, given that they ignore essential elements of human existence, such as values, emotions, and social interdependence. The empirical findings suggest moving beyond the idea of autonomous decision-making for suicide as a rational procedure and instead conceptualise the pre-suicidal decision-making process as a highly emotional phenomenon within a relational context. Acknowledging that suicidality is not only linked to cognitive considerations but also intertwined with or predominantly controlled by emotional dimensions, such as despair, crisis, and marginalisation, we argue that further evaluation tools are required to address suicidality in all its facets. In moving beyond the mere consideration of cognitive functions, this approach is particularly suitable for representing the reality of persons with mental illness. This provides urgently needed guidance for clinical practice, considering that the latest German jurisdiction on physician-assisted suicide holds that the right to a self-determined death cannot be refused unless an acute psychiatric condition directly caused the suicide wish.

Abstract:Background Identifying patients at risk for a suicide attempt (SA) is critical in adolescents with mental disorders. The current study aimed to 1) examine whether personality dysfunction (PD) is associated with previous SA, 2) explore the incremental utility of PD over psychiatric disorders in modeling previous SA. Methods The sample comprised of n = 498 adolescent patients (mean age = 15.41 years, 79.12 % females, inpatient 48.8 %, outpatient 51.2 %). SA in the past year, PD according to the alternative DSM-5 model for personality disorders, and psychiatric diagnoses were assessed using semi-structured interviews. Logistic regression and principal component analysis examining the associations and specific patterns of PD and SA in the past year were conducted. Hierarchical (stepwise) logistic regression was applied to investigate the incremental utility of PD over that of psychiatric diagnoses to identify individuals with SA in the past year. Results Including all facets of PD revealed a significant model with SA in the past year as outcome ( χ 2 (12) = 106.65, McFaddens Pseudo- R 2 = 0.17, p < 0.01). Adding PD to the model explained a significant amount of variance in past SA over that of psychiatric diagnoses (Pseudo- R 2 = 0.18, Wald χ 2 = 43.05, p < 0.01). Limitations As we only studied past SA and due to the cross-sectional design, no conclusion regarding the prediction of future SA can be drawn. Discussion PD should routinely be assessed in adolescent patients since individuals with PD are more likely to have attempted suicide even when controlling for comorbid psychiatric disorders. PD may represent an important target for intervention in those with suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Abstract:Schizoid personality disorder (SZPD) is a Cluster A personality disorder whose essential feature is a lifelong pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of emotional expression. Although SZPD has been in every edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, empirical research on this disorder is actually limited, due to the fact that SZPD is rarely encountered in clinical settings. In fact, individuals with SZPD rarely present for treatment, as their isolation is often ego-syntonic; therefore, the prevalence of SZPD is not clearly established. Suicide ideation may be a running theme for individuals with SZPD. However, suicidality in SZPD is actually an underestimated topic. Aiming to draw more attention to this underestimated issue, with this paper the authors intend to provide a list of studies on suicidality in individuals with SZPD or traits, in the form of a clinical mini-review. Reported studies show that an underlying SZPD, or the presence of schizoid traits too, appear to be definitely a major risk factor for completed suicide and serious suicide attempts. This maladaptive personality disorder seems to not allow the individual to ask for help and to deny him the comforts of intimacy. Therefore, clinicians should be aware that schizoid traits suchs as solitary lifestyle, loneliness, emotional detachment, and impaired communication ability, are features associated with a vulnerability to suicidal behavior. We recommend the clinical assessment of this symptoms' constellation, in order to address patients with SZPD to most proper treatment.
Psychological Risk Factors in the Transition from Suicidal Ideation to Suicidal Behavior in Young Adults

Abstract:Background: Suicidal behaviour, defined as acting with the intention of killing oneself and thinking about doing so, is a serious public health problem. Being able to list the risk factors in the process from suicidal ideation to suicidal behaviour is important in preventing suicide. Objectives: The study was conducted to examine the psychological variables that discriminate between individuals who attempt suicide and those who only have suicidal ideation. Methods: The sample of the study consisted of 108 individuals who attempted suicide and 197 individuals with suicidal ideation, aged 18–25 years. Data were collected using the Demographic Information Form, Anger/Impulsivity (A/I) and Hopelessness/Loneliness (H/L) subscales of the Suicide Probability Scale (SPS), Psychological Pain Scale (PPS), State and Trait Anxiety Scale (STAS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ), Acquired Suicide Efficacy/Death Fearlessness Scale (ASE/DFS) and General Attitudes and Beliefs Scale Short Form (GABS-SF). Results: Results showed that anger/impulsivity (Wald = 4.827; p < 0.05), perceived burden on others (Wald = 8.613; p < 0.05), acquired suicide efficacy/death fearlessness (Wald = 13.377; p < 0.001), being female (Wald = 3.925; p < 0.05), presence of diagnosed psychiatric illness in the family (Wald = 5.705; p < 0.05), and receiving psychological support (Wald = 4.381. p < 0.05) variables are significant predictors of the transition from suicidal ideation to suicidal action. Conclusions: The identification of psychological factors between suicide attempters and suicide ideation groups may guide clinicians in the follow-up and treatment of individuals at risk of attempting suicide. In addition, the results may contribute to the development of new intervention, education and treatment programmes for suicide.
