Abstract:Objective: Investigating the main allergen distribution and characteristics in the children with allergic rhinitis, in order to guide the clinical prevention and treatment. Design: 20 common allergens and specific IgE antibodies in serum of patents were determined through Western blot. Results: All the 938 patients were positive to at least one allergen, including 487 cases of children with total IgE was greater than 400 IU/ml, 230 cases ranging from 200 IU/ml ~ 400 IU/ml. In 20 specific allergens, the leading allergens were house dust and mite; the positive rates were 90.0% and 80.8%. Conclusion: At least one specific IgE antibody increases significantly in children with allergic rhinitis, the main allergens for the children with allergic rhinitis were house dust, dust mite, pet skin scraps, mutton and milk. Evaluation of Exposure and Sensitization to House Dust Mites among Rhinitis Patients in the Steppe Environment of Inner Mongolia

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the correlation of exposure and sensitization to house dust mites among rhinitis patients, and the consistency of skin prick test (SPT) and serum specific IgE (sIgE) in the detection of sensitization in a steppe environment of inner Mongolia.METHODS:Three hundreds and fourteen patients with rhinitis symptoms were recruited in this study in a hospital setting at Xilinhot City, inner Mongolia. All patients underwent medical history investigation, anterior rhinoscopy, and allergen tests in vivo (SPT) and in vitro (sIgE). Dust samples were collected from mattresses in patient's bedroom. The concentrations of group I major allergen of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p) and Dermatophagoides farinae (Der f) were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Statistical analysis was performed using a SPSS 17.0 software (t test, χ(2) test and so on).RESULTS:Among a total of 314 patients, the prevalence of positive SPT for Der p and Der f was 5.7% and 22.0%, respectively; and the prevalence of positive sIgE for Der p and Der f was 9.2% and 7.6%, respectively. Sensitization rates for house dust mites (Der p and/or Der f) were lower than those of pollens. The pollen allergen with the highest positive rate was mugwort (SPT, 51.9%; sIgE, 47.1%). Diagnostic tests using SPT as the gold standard for sensitization showed that the positive likelihood ratio of sIgE was 4.27 for Der p and 10.64 for Der f, and the Kappa value was 0.20 for Der p and 0.35 for Der f, respectively. A total of 276 dust samples collected from patient's mattresses were measured. The concentrations of Der p 1 and Der f1 were detectable in 2 (0.7%) and 4 (1.4%) mattress samples, respectively. There was positive correlation between the exposure levels of Derp 1 and the SPT positive reaction to Der p (r(s) = 0.156, P = 0.01), but no significant correlation was found between the exposure levels of Der p 1 and the sIgE positive reaction to Der p (r(s) = 0.116, P = 0.055). There was no significant correlation between the exposure levels of Der f 1 and the SPT as well as sIgE positive reaction to Der f 1(r(s) = 0.05, P = 0.931; r(s) = 0.07, P = 0.245).CONCLUSIONS:In the steppe environment of inner Mongolia, exposure to house dust mites are very low, and the Der p and Der f are not the major allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis. Also, it was not a simple dose-response relationship between exposure and sensitization to house dust mites. In such a specific environment, there is lower consistency between the results of SPT and sIgE in the detection of sensitization to house dust mites. Therefore, it is recommended that the allergen testing in vivo and in vitro should be combined for clinical diagnosis.
Analysis of IgE level influencing factors of common allergens for allergic rhinitis in northeastern China

Abstract:Objectives: This thesis aims to provide patients with a preventive and therapeutic basis by analyzing IgE level influencing factors of common allergens for Allergic Rhinitis (AR). Method: Multiple linear regression analysis is made upon questionnaires among 749 cases of AR patients that are divided into 5 age-based groups. Perform serum-specific IgE content testing on patients. Results: Cockroach being an allergen, AR patients' IgE Level is influenced by allergic history, home-raised plants and animals. For AR patients with mugwort as an allergen, allergy and asthma history could increase IgE level, respectively, β = 4.291 and β = 4.364. If the allergen turns out to be peanut, allergic history would increase the IgE level (β = 0.171), however, the level would be lower in female patients compared with male patients (β = -0.078). For patients with egg as an allergen, allergic history, home-raised plants and animals (pets) would all affect the IgE level, respectively, β = 0.182, β = 0.118 and β = -0.101. Conclusions: IgE level varies according to allergic history, home-raised plants & animals, gender, furniture renewal, asthma, and ages for patients with different allergens including cockroach, mold, mugwort, peanut, egg and crab. For each kind of allergen, the IgE levels react differently to different influencing factors, thus requiring a thorough analysis of each AR patient's allergen and allergenic factors.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the distribution of common allergens and indoor factors influencing the severity of allergic rhinitis in patients from the Chaoshan region. Methods:Patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis from Shantou, Jieyang, and Chaozhou were selected for serum allergen-specific IgE testing. A questionnaire survey was conducted to analyze the distribution of allergens and indoor factors affecting the severity of the disease. Results:A total of 1 800 questionnaires were collected, with 1 646 valid responses, resulting in an effective response rate of 91.4%. Among the 1 646 included patients with allergic rhinitis, there were 1 285 children（≤14 years），361 adolescents and adults（>14 years）；of which 999 were males and 647 were females. The top three allergens with the highest positive rates were house dust mites（n=1 457, 88.5%）, milk（n=569, 34.6%）, and crab（n=360, 21.9%）. The proportions of allergen sensitization to house dust mites, house dust, dog dander, egg white, milk, fish, crab, shrimp, and beef showed statistically significant differences between children and adolescents and adults（P<0.01）. There were also statistically significant differences in crab and shrimp sensitization between males and females（P<0.01）. Multivariate analysis revealed that active/passive smoking, religious rituals, air conditioning usage, pet ownership, air purifier usage, and bedding drying were indoor factors influencing the severity of allergic rhinitis. Among them, active/passive smoking, religious rituals, air conditioning usage, and pet ownership were risk factors for exacerbating the disease, while air purifier usage and bedding drying were protective factors. Conclusion:House dust mites are the most common allergen in patients with allergic rhinitis in the Chaoshan region. Active/passive smoking, religious rituals, air conditioning usage, and pet ownership can worsen the condition, while air purifier usage and bedding drying can help control the disease. The results of this study can provide clinical reference.

Abstract:Abstract A series of 2-(1-alkylamino)vinylidene-1,3-cyclohexanedione was synthesized and assayed as inhibitors of the Hill reaction in isolated chloroplasts. The pI50 value of this series was dramatically changed by modification of the peripheral of its hydrophilic moiety and the maximum pI50 value of this series was almost equal to that of DCMU . The results suggest that this series may be a good probe for searching the environment of inhibitors binding site because of its chemical and biological characteristics and its ease of synthesis.
Evaluation of the Role of IgE Responses to Der f 1 and Der f 2 in House Dust Mite-allergic Patients

Abstract:To investigate the status of the Der f 1 and Der f 2 specific IgE in house dust mite-allergic patients,eighty patients were enrolled,and their serum IgE reactivity to Dermatophagoides farinae (Df),was measured with ImmunoCAP and Zheda Dixun Im-muno-blotting method.Serum IgE reactivity to Der f 1 and Der f 2 was also measured in Df-allergic patients.Results showed that 81.3% (65 cases)had positive Df specific IgE in 80 cases in both measurements.Most Df positive patients were sensitized to Der f 1 (87.7% positive)and Der f 2 (90.8% positive),with both allergens together (96.9% positive)largely responsible for the total anti-Df IgE response.The specific IgE value of Der f 2 was significantly higher than that of Der f 1 .Overall,IgE responses to Df and its two major allergen components were higher in children than in adults in this study.These results suggest that Der f 1 and Der f 2 are the dominant allergens in patients with Df allergy in China.Significant difference in the IgE level exists between Der f 1 and Der f 2, with the latter higher than the former.Children have higher IgE concentration of Der f 1 and Der f 2 than adults.

Abstract:Particulate matter pollution is a serious environmental problem. Individuals exposed to particulate matters have an increased prevalence to diseases. In the present study, we performed an epidemiological study to investigate the effects of particulate matter less than 10 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM 10 ) and particulate matter less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM 2.5 ) on allergic rhinitis in Nanjing, China. Daily numbers of allergic rhinitis patients (33,063 patients), PM 10 , PM 2.5 , and weather data were collected from January 2014 to December 2016 in Nanjing, China. Generalized additive models (GAM) were used to evaluate the effects of PM 10 and PM 2.5 on allergic rhinitis. We found that the interquartile range (IQR) increases in PM 10 (difference of estimates, 5.86%; 95% CI, 3.00–8.81%; P = 4.72 × 10 −5 ) and PM 2.5 (difference of estimates, 5.39%; 95% CI, 2.73–8.12%; P = 5.67 × 10 −5 ) concentrations were associated with the higher increased numbers of allergic rhinitis patients with 3-day cumulative effects in single-pollutant model. In addition, we found that the IQR increase in PM 10 (age ≥ 18 years: 7.37%, 3.91–10.96%, 2.14 × 10 −5 ; 0–17 years: 0.83%, − 4.00–5.91%, 0.740) and PM 2.5 (age ≥ 18 years: 7.00%, 3.78–10.32%, 1.40 × 10 −5 ; 0–17 years: 0.40%, − 4.10–5.10%, 0.866) increased the number of allergic rhinitis patients in adults, but not in children. In summary, our findings suggested that exposure to PM 10 and PM 2.5 was associated with the risk of allergic rhinitis.

Abstract:Background: The prevalence of allergic sensitization has increased all over the world during last years and allergic sensitization may be related to genetic or environmental factors or to both. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence rates of allergic sensitization and assess the familial aggregation of allergic sensitization to aeroallergens in asthma index families. Methods: The skin prick test (SPT) reactivity to 8 aeroallergens and the SPT reactivity-related risk factors were evaluated. The allergic sensitization was based on SPT. Univariate and multivariate logistic regressive models were used to estimate the effect size (odds ratio, OR) of correlation within families with positive SPT. Results: Of 4,213 analyzed subjects in 1,006 asthma index families, 40.9% had at least one positive SPT, 42.3% in parents (father: 43.3%; mother: 42.3%), 43.9% in first offspring, and 36.0% in subsequent offspring. The most common allergens were Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (DP), cockroach and Dermatophagoides farinae (DF). Allergic sensitization status of both parents and first offspring was related to the risk of allergic sensitization for subsequent offspring. The OR for the positive (father)positive (first offspring) group was 1.92 (p < 0.01), 3.26 (p < 0.01) for the positive (mother)-positive (first offspring) group, and 2.12 (p < 0.01) for the positive (father)-positive (mother) group, which were adjusted for age, sex, body mass index, history of asthma and smoking status. Conclusions: Our findings supported a significant familial aggregation of allergic sensitization in this Chinese population and highlighted the role of genetic factors in allergic sensitization. [Distribution of allergens and associated risk factors of patients with allergic rhinitis in Qingdao area]

Abstract:Objective:To analyze the distribution of allergens and the risk factors in patients with allergic rhinitis in Qingdao area. Method:Two hundred and sixteen patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis and 49 healthy volunteers were admitted to the outpatient clinic of the Otolaryngology Department of the three branches of Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital in Qingdao from August 2018 to March 2019. A total of 271 patients（5-84 years old） were included in the epidemiological investigation. The study conducted a skin stinging test of inhalation allergens. In addition, the questionnaire of allergic disease and self-examination of dust mite allergy were carried out for each group of patients, and the results were analyzed and counted. Result:①In 216 patients with allergic rhinitis, the top six inhalation allergens were dust mites（55.0%）, house dust mites（46.1%）, tropical mites（21.8%）, dog hair（16.6%）, Artemisia halodendron（13.3%）, and German cockroaches（10.3%）. ②Inhalation allergens, the degree of positive of house dust mites and dust mites were mainly（+++）, the degree of positive of Artemisia halodendron were mainly（+++） and（++++）, and the degree of positive of other allergens were mainly（++）. ③There were statistically significant differences in the positive rates of inhalation allergens in different age groups, and the positive rates of inhalation allergens gradually decreased with age after adulthood. ④The single factor and multi-factor logical regression analysis all showed that the history of smoking, family history, age less than 18 years, and 18-40 years old were closely related to the occurrence of allergic rhinitis（P<0.05）. ⑤Using Spearson-related analysis and loess regression analysis, it was found that with the increase of dust mite self-examination score, the positive rate of dust mite increased significantly. Conclusion:The most important inhalation allergens of patients with allergic rhinitis in Qingdao area are dust mites, dog hair and artemisinin. The positive rate of inhalation allergens is influenced by age and there are certain rules in them. Smoking history, family history, age and other factors are risk factors for allergic rhinitis. The dust mite self-examination score can predict the occurrence of dust mite allergy.
[Analysis of serum allergen-specific IgE in children with respiratory allergic disease in Guangdong]

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the common allergens in children with respiratory allergic diseases in Guangdong and provide the basis for preventing and treating respiratory allergic diseases. Methods: A total of 254 serum samples were collected retrospectively from children with allergic rhinitis and (or) asthma in the pediatric clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University or Boai Hospital of Zhongshan City from August 2019 to August 2020 and tested positive for at least one allergens by ImmunoCAP 1000 or skin prick test. There were 173 males and 81 females, with a median age (interquartile interval) of 7 (4.00, 9.75) years. Specific IgE against eighteen common allergen were tested by magnetic particle chemiluminescence immunoassay. Statistical analysis using χ2 test. Results: The positive rate of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (85.0%, 215/254) was the highest, followed by D. farinae (83.5%, 212/254), egg white (19.3%, 49/254), milk (14.6%, 37/254), German cockroach (14.2%, 36/254) and ox-eye daisy (12.6%, 32/254). Dust mites were the most common allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis / allergic asthma / allergic rhinitis and asthma. The positive rates of D. pteronyssinus (95.4% vs. 91.7% vs. 71.0%, χ2=23.257, P<0.001), D. farinae (95.4% vs. 90.6% vs. 67.7%, χ2=26.916, P<0.001), mugwort (10.8% vs. 9.4% vs. 1.1%, χ2=7.535, P=0.023), and ox-eye daisy (21.5% vs. 14.6% vs. 4.3%, χ2=10.876, P=0.004) in allergic rhinitis combined with asthma group and allergic rhinitis group were significantly higher than those in allergic rhinitis group. The positive rates of D. pteronyssinus (96.2% vs. 84.0% vs. 53.5%, χ2=46.343, P<0.001), D. farinae (96.2% vs. 81.5% vs. 48.8%, χ2=52.756, P<0.001) and German cockroach (17.7% vs. 14.8% vs. 2.3%, χ2=6.313, P=0.043) in > 6 years old group were significantly higher than those in > 3 years old group and > 3-6 years old group, while the sIgE positive rates of egg white (41.9% vs. 21.0% vs. 10.8%, χ2=20.281, P<0.001) and milk (41.9% vs. 16.0% vs. 4.6%, χ2=36.227, P<0.001) in ≤3 years old group were significantly higher than those in > 3-6 years old group and > 6 years old group. In addition, there were significant positive correlations between D. pteronyssinus and D. farinae, mugwort and ox-eye daisy, cat dander and horse dander, ox-eye daisy and dandelion, egg white and milk, timothy grass and sesame (rs≥0.511, P < 0.01). With the increase of the class of house dust mite allergen, the sIgE positive rates of mugwort (0.0% vs. 1.5% vs. 10.8%, χ2=9.714, P=0.008), ox-eye daisy (0.0% vs. 4.4% vs. 19.6%, χ2=16.195, P<0.001), cat dander (0.0% vs. 7.4% vs. 18.2%, χ2=11.459, P=0.003) and horse dander (0.0% vs. 1.5% vs. 15.5%, χ2=15.443, P < 0.001) increased significantly, while the sIgE positive rate of milk (29.0% vs. 16.2% vs. 10.1%, χ2=8.792, P=0.012) decreased significantly. Conclusions: Dust mite is the main allergen in children with respiratory allergic diseases in Guangdong, and ox-eye daisy is the main pollen allergen. The sensitization patterns of allergens varied in different ages and diseases, and children with respiratory allergic diseases should regularly detect allergens and pay attention to avoid them.
[Study on sIgE distribution characteristics and the sensitization pattern of allergen in 1 161 patients with allergic diseases of respiratory tract in northwest China]

Abstract:Objective: To explore the allergen map of patients with allergic diseases in northwest China, to investigate the distribution characteristics of serum specific Immunoglobulin E (sIgE) in different ages, genders, diseases and the sensitization patterns of allergens. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study, a total of 1 161 patients with confirmed respiratory allergic diseases were selected retrospectively from outpatient or inpatient department of Gansu Provincial People's Hospital, Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child Care Hospital, General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, Yinchuan Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital, Xijing Hospital, Air Force Military Medical University and Tumor Hospital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from June 2019 to October 2022. HAIKE ALLEOS 2000 fluorescent magnetic particle chemiluminescence method was used to quantify their serum for 12 inhaled allergen-specific IgE. Chi square test or Fisher's exact test were used for comparison between count data groups (Bonferroni correction was used for further pairwise comparison in multiple groups, two-sided P<0.05/3=0.017 considered that the difference was statistically significant). Pearson correlation analysis was used for correlation of continuous numerical variables. Results: The positive detection rate of sIgE in 1 161 patients was 66.8%(776/1 161). The three highest positive rate of inhaled allergen were mugwort(599/1 161, 51.6%), French chrysanthemum(565/1 161, 48.7%) and dandelion(412/1 161, 35.5%). In different age groups, the highest positive rate of sIgE was 7-18 age group(379/513, 73.9%) while the lowest positive rate was 4-6 age group(222/370, 60.0%), the difference between groups was statistically significant(χ2=21.177, P<0.001). The sensitization peak of mugwort, French chrysanthemum, plantain, timothy, birch, dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, dermatophagoides farinae, cat epithelium, dog epithelium and German cockroach appeared in 7-18 age group. In different disease groups, the highest positive rate of sIgE was allergic rhinitis with asthma group (500/717, 69.7%) while the lowest positive rate was asthma group (76/144, 52.8%), the difference between groups was statistically significant(χ2=15.563, P<0.001). In different gender groups, the positive rate of sIgE in male (503/711, 70.7%) was higher than in female (273/450, 60.7%), the difference between groups was statistically significant(χ2=12.630, P<0.001). The multiple-sensitization rate was 86.9%(674/776) and the double-sensitization rate was 16.8%(130/776) in sIgE positive patients. Pearson correlation results showed that there was an extremely strong correlation between dandelion and French chrysanthemum(r=0.93,P<0.001). There was a strong correlation between mugwort and French chrysanthemum(r=0.64,P<0.001). In the co-sensitization analysis, the number of patients sensitized by mugwort, French chrysanthemum, dandelion, plantain and timothy accounted for 25.2%(170/674)of the total number of multiple sensitization. The number of patients sensitized by mugwort, French chrysanthemum and dandelion accounted for 58.3%(393/674)of the total number of multiple sensitization. The number of patients sensitized by mugwort, French chrysanthemum, dandelion and plantain accounted for 35.6%(240/674) of the total number of multiple sensitization. Conclusion: Mugwort, French chrysanthemum, dandelion are the major inhaled allergens in northwest China. The positive rate of sIgE was different in different ages, diseases and genders. The multiple-sensitization rate of allergen was high and there was a certain positive correlation between pollen allergen-specific IgE pairwise, suggesting that there may exist co-sensitization or cross-reactions among allergens.

Abstract:Background: Little is known about the changes in allergen sensitization in China secondary to the rapid economic growth over the past decade. We aimed to compare the differences of sensitization rates in patients with asthma and/or rhinitis in China between 2008 and 2018.Methods: This study analyzed cross-sectional data from national surveys conducted in China in 2008 and 2018. After finishing the questionnaire, participants underwent serum specific IgE measurement. A total of 2322 and 2798 patients were enrolled in 2008 and 2018, respectively. The significance of differences in sensitization rates among four regions of China were assessed. Correlation analysis was used to identify the associations of sensitization with climate change and planting of the Artemisia desertorum between the two surveys.Results: Compared with 2008, the general sensitization rate to mites significantly increased in 2018, and it ranked highest among all tested allergens. Sensitization to pollens, especially those of Artemisia vulgaris, showed the greatest increase in the north, with sIgE grades 4–6. From 2008 to 2018, an increase in Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus sensitization was significantly associated with the increase in relative humidity (r=0.54, P=0.037). The increase in Artemisia vulgaris sensitization was significantly associated with the increase in Artemisia desertorum planting area (r=0.67, P=0.006) and with a decrease in rainfall (r=−0.59, P=0.021). Conclusions: House dust mites remain the most important allergen in Chinese individuals with asthma and/or rhinitis. Pollen sensitization dramatically increased in the northern China. [Study on the distribution pattern of allergen sIgE in patients with respiratory allergic diseases in a hospital in Shanxi Province]

Abstract:To explore the allergen sensitization status of patients with respiratory allergic diseases in Shanxi Province, and to provide a basis for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of allergic diseases. It is a cross-sectional study, a total of 1 680 patients with allergic rhinitis and/or asthma diagnosed at the Department of Allergic Reaction of Shanxi Bethune Hospital from July 2021 to June 2023 who underwent allergen sIgE testing and/or skin prick test were retrospectively enrolled.There were 772 males and 908 females.The age range was 3 to 88 years. The median age was 35 years.There were 108 cases in the child group (≤12 years old), 102 cases in the adolescent group (13-17 years old), 819 cases in the youth group (18-40 years old), 498 cases in the middle-aged group (41-65 years old), and 153 cases in the elderly group (>65 years old). There were 333 cases in the allergic rhinitis group, 827 cases in the allergic asthma group, and 520 cases in the allergic rhinitis with asthma group. There were 1 254 urban patients and 426 rural patients.There were 253 cases in the northern Shanxi region, 1 195 cases in the central Shanxi region, and 232 cases in the southern Shanxi region. Statistical analyses were performed using the χ 2 test or Fisher's exact probability method to compare the differences in allergen sIgE positivity rates by sex, age, disease, living environment, and geography. The results showed that 1 027 patients (61.1%) were positive for at least one allergen sIgE, with Artemisia having the highest rate of positivity (603/1 680, 35.9%), followed by ragweed (302/1 680, 18.0%) and dust mite combinations (245/1 680, 14.6%). The number of individuals with single-allergen sIgE positivity was 357 (357/1 027, 34.8%), with the highest number of single-allergen sIgE positive results associated with Artemisia (114/357, 31.9%). The number of multiple-allergen sIgE positive results was 670 cases (670/1 027, 65.2%), with the highest number of patients having 2 allergen sIgE positive results (243/670, 36.3%). The overall positivity rate for allergen sIgE was significantly higher among males than among females (65.7% vs. 57.3%, χ2=12.405, P<0.001). Overall positivity for inhalant allergen sIgE was higher in the child and adolescent groups (88.0% vs. 88.2% vs. 59.8% vs. 40.2% vs. 19.0%, χ2=223.372, P<0.001), and food allergen sIgE positivity was highest in the child group (54.6% vs. 36.3% vs. 26.0% vs. 18.9% vs. 21.6%,χ2=66.383,P<0.001). The sIgE positivity rate of inhalant allergens was significantly higher in the allergic rhinitis group and the allergic rhinitis with asthma group than in the allergic asthma group, except for cockroaches and molds (P<0.05). The overall positive rate of allergen sIgE was significantly higher among urban patients than among rural patients (66.2% vs. 46.2%, χ2=53.230, P<0.001). The difference in the overall positive rate of allergen sIgE among patients from different regions was not statistically significant (56.1% vs. 62.0% vs. 62.1%, χ2=3.140, P=0.208). The sIgE positivity of dust mite combinations was significantly higher in the central Shanxi region and the southern Shanxi region than in the northern Shanxi region (15.5% vs. 18.1% vs. 7.1%,χ2=14.411, P=0.001). In conclusion, artemisia was the most important sensitizer for respiratory allergic diseases in Shanxi Province. The types of allergens and positivity rates were different for different sexes, ages, diseases, living environments, and regions. Therefore, patients with allergic diseases should be tested for allergens to help with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of allergic diseases.

Abstract:Background: House dust mite (HDM) is the most common airborne source causing complex allergy symptoms. There are geographic differences in the allergen molecule sensitization profiles. Serological testing with allergen components may provide more clues for diagnosis and clinical management. Objective: This study aims to investigate the sensitization profile of eight HDM allergen components in a large number of patients enrolled in the clinic and to analyze the relation of gender, age, and clinical symptoms in North China. Methods: The 548 serum samples of HDM-allergic patients (ImmunoCAP ® d1 or d2 IgE ≥0.35) were collected in Beijing City and divided in four different age groups and three allergic symptoms. The specific IgE of HDM allergenic components, Der p 1/Der f 1, Der p 2/Der f 2, Der p 7, Der p 10, Der p 21, and Der p 23, was measured using the micro-arrayed allergen test kit developed by Hangzhou Zheda Dixun Biological Gene Engineering Co., Ltd. The new system was validated by comparing to single-component Der p 1, Der p 2, and Der p 23 tests by ImmunoCAP in 39 sera. The epidemiological study of these IgE profiles and the relation to age and clinical phenotypes were analyzed. Results: A greater proportion of male patients was in the younger age groups, while more female patients were in the adult groups. Both the sIgE levels and the positive rates (approximately 60%) against Der p 1/Der f 1 and Der p 2/Der f 2 were higher than for the Der p 7, Der p 10, and Der p 21 components (below 25%). The Der f 1 and Der p 2 positive rates were higher in 2–12-year-old children. The Der p 2 and Der f 2 IgE levels and positive rates were higher in the allergic rhinitis group. The positive rates of Der p 10 increased significantly with age. Der p 21 is relevant in allergic dermatitis symptom, while Der p 23 contributes to asthma development. Conclusion: HDM groups 1 and 2 were the major sensitizing allergens, with group 2 being the most important component relevant to respiratory symptoms in North China. The Der p 10 sensitization tends to increase with age. Der p 21 and Der p 23 might be associated with the development of allergic skin disease and asthma, respectively. Multiple allergen sensitizations increased the risk of allergic asthma.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the allergens in children with allergic rhinitis (AR) and AR-related influencing factors. PATIENTS AND METHODS The clinical data of 230 children with AR admitted to our hospital from June 2020 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed and included in the observation group. The clinical data of 230 healthy children during the same time period were included as the control group. All children had been tested for allergens using serum allergens, and the clinical data were collected by telephone questionnaires. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the risk factors affecting AR. RESULTS A total of 230 children with AR was included in this study, and some of them had two or more allergens. The proportion of house dust mite was the highest among the inhaled allergens, about 75.22%. Shrimp accounted for the highest proportion of food allergens, about 40.87%. Compared with the control group, the proportion of floating population, home heating, allergy history, asthma and other general information in the observation group was higher. At the same time, the proportion of environmental factors such as second-hand smoke, number of residents (≤ 3), daily ventilation and cleaning (no), domestic animals, domestic plants, decoration within 2 years, and living environment (rural) in the observation group was higher. In addition, the proportion of family factors such as delivery mode (cesarean section), family history of allergic rhinitis, parents' education level (middle school and above) in the observation group was higher (p < 0.05). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that allergic history, asthma, second-hand smoke, floating population, number of residents, domestic animals, decoration within 2 years, delivery mode, and family history of allergic rhinitis were the risk factors affecting the incidence of AR in children (p < 0.05), and daily window ventilation and cleaning were the protective factors (p < 0.05). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that asthma, second-hand smoke, floating population, decoration within 2 years, family history of allergic rhinitis and domestic animals were independent risk factors for the occurrence of AR (p < 0.05), and daily ventilation and cleaning were protective factors for the occurrence of AR in children (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The proportion of house dust mite in inhalation allergens and shrimp in food allergens were the highest in AR children. The incidence of AR was closely related to asthma, second-hand smoke, floating population, decoration within 2 years, family history of AR and domestic animals, etc. Targeted measures could effectively prevent the occurrence and recurrence of AR. At the same time, daily ventilation and cleaning were the protective factors which could reduce the incidence and occurrence of AR in children.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the distribution of allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis （AR） in Ningxia, and provide theoretical data for the prevention and treatment of AR in this region. Methods:A total of 1664 patients diagnosed with AR in the Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Department of Yinchuan First People's Hospital Outpatient Clinic from January 2018 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected. Use the allergen sIgE antibody detection kit （immunoblotting method） to detect inhalation and ingestion allergens in patients.Results: ①Among all AR patients, 1 158 cases were detected positive, resulting in the detection rate was 69.59%; ②The detection rate of inhalation allergen was 65.87%, and the detection rate of ingestion allergen was 19.83%; ③Mugwort was the most sensitive allergen, and 76.32% of the patients having a positive grade ≥3; ④Out of the patients, 294 cases （25.39%） were allergic to only one allergen, 244 cases （21.07%） were allergic to two allergens, and 620 cases （53.54%） were allergic to three or more allergens; ⑤During different seasons, the highest number of positive allergens detected was in the summer, with 968 cases （83.59%）. Mugwort was the main allergen during this season （69.01%）. After the COVID-19 epidemic, the total positive rate of sIgE tests in AR patients decreased compared to before, and the difference was statistically significant （P<0.001）; ⑥Mugwort, dog epithelium, mold combination, egg, peanut, soybean, Marine fish combination and fruit combination all showed statistically significant differences between different gender groups （P<0.05）; ⑦Common ragweed, mugwort, dust mite combination, cockroach, egg, milk, Marine fish combination, shrimp, fruit combination and nut combination all showed statistically significant differences among different age groups （P<0.05）; ⑧There were statistically significant differences in hay dust among different ethnic groups （P<0.05）. Conclusion:Artemisia argyi is the main allergen in Ningxia, and the distribution characteristics of different allergens are influenced by treatment season, the COVID-19 epidemic, gender, age, ethnicity, and other factors, showing certain distribution patterns and rules.

Abstract:Background: The role of specific IgE (sIgE) against Der p 1 and Der p 2 in Chinese patients with house dust mite (HDM) allergy has not yet been well investigated. Methods: One hundred patients were enrolled, based on sensitization and doctor-diagnosed allergy to HDM. Questionnaires were administered to document demographic and clinical characteristics. Serum IgE reactivity to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Dp) extract, Der p 1, Der p 2 and Der p 10 was measured by ImmunoCAP. Results: Almost all patients were sensitized to Der p 1 (95%) and Der p 2 (93%), with both allergens together being largely responsible for the total anti-HDM IgE response. No evidence for a significant role of Der p 10 was found. Overall, IgE responses to HDM and its 2 major allergens were higher in children than in adults in this cross-sectional study. With increasing age, IgE responses to Der p 2 become more important. A positive correlation was observed between the reaction of sIgE against Dp, Der p 1 and Der p 2 and the number of organs (including the eyes, nose, lungs and skin) that were affected in patients. Conclusions: In China, Der p 1 and Der p 2 are the dominant allergens in patients with HDM allergy. The relative importance of Der p 1 and Der p 2 changes with age, in favor of Der p 2. Abstract:Background: The pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis (AR) was affected by meteorological and environmental factors. This study investigated the association between clinical symptoms of AR patients with pollen dispersal and meteorological conditions. Methods: The clinical features of 10,838 AR patients who were treated in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, The First Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, from March 2021 to October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. We collected pollen by a pollen collector, read and counted it under a microscope, identified the species of the pollen particles, and recorded meteorological data (average daily temperature, maximum and minimum temperature, average daily wind, average daily precipitation, average daily humidity, average pressure, air quality index, PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3), to analyze the correlation among meteorological conditions, pollen dispersal, and number of AR visits. Finally, pollen allergen-positive and symptoms were scored. Results: Among the AR visits, patients >41 years old accounted for the highest proportion (64.15%). 43.67% of the patients were complicated with bronchial asthma, and the disease incidence peaked in September. During the period of the study, a total of 27,512 pollen grains were collected, and 17 species were identified. The pollens of Compositae and Moraceae were the main allergenic sources leading to the increase in AR visits from August to September. The peak of pollen dispersal was in spring, summer, and autumn. The total amount of pollen was not only related to the average daily minimum temperature, average daily precipitation, and average daily humidity but also had a significant correlation with air quality index and air pollutants (PM2.5 and PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO). In addition, there was a significant correlation between the number of daily pollen allergen-positive patients and the pollen concentration of Compositae and Moraceae as well as air pollution components. The clinical symptoms of pollen allergen-positive patients were mainly nasal congestion, red/itchy eyes, and epiphora. Conclusion: The peak seasons of pollen dispersal in Shenyang were in spring, summer, and autumn, and the allergenic pollens were mainly Compositae and Moraceae. In addition, AR was substantially correlated with pollen concentration and meteorological factors. This study may help provide early warning information and prevention for AR patients.
Molecular epidemiology of serotype 19A Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from children in Beijing, 1997-2006.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Despite the prevalence of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 19A, the molecular characteristics of this serotype are yet to be fully elucidated. The aim of this study was therefore to determine the homology of the serotype 19A in China. METHODS Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and multilocus sequence typing were done to these forty-nine serotype 19A isolates to investigate the relationship between the strains prevalent in Beijing and other regions. RESULTS From 1997 to 2006, the percentage of serotype 19A isolates increased. The susceptibility rate to penicillin and amoxicillin decreased and the resistance rate to cefuroxime increased. ST320 was the most prevalent ST, followed by ST3546. There were six new STs identified in our study. The serotype 19A strains were classified into six different pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns. ST320, which was associated with two different PFGE patterns (A and D), accounted for 32 isolates, and ST3546, which was associated with two PFGE patterns (B and E), accounted for eight isolates. CONCLUSIONS From 2003 onwards, ST320 was the most common ST and the rate of resistance to cefuroxime increased significantly. Further long-term surveys of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 19A are required to monitor ST prevalence and antimicrobial resistance in this important human pathogen.
