Abstract:This study investigated Vietnamese people's behavior and future intention to purchase medicines and functional foods online and their associated factors. From March to May 2023, a Google Form questionnaire was distributed via social networks and online platforms. Convenience and snowballing sampling methods were employed to recruit 1,305 Vietnamese people. In the past year, 50.3% of participants purchased at least one kind of medicine and/or functional foods online (medicines: 27.6%, functional foods: 45.1%). Among 656 buyers, nearly a third bought these products more than three times and only 5.9% felt dissatisfied with their previous experiences. This purchasing behavior was more prevalent among females, those married, having higher education levels, usually shopping online, having longer time of Internet use per day, and seeking health information on the Internet ( p < 0.001). In addition, 77.5% of participants intended to purchase these products online in the future and 61.2% would introduce this kind of online purchase to other people. The purchase intention was significantly associated with the participants' previous experiences, area, contracting chronic diseases, and using the Internet for self-medication, while factors associated with the introducing intention included their education level, occupation, and previous experiences in online purchases ( p < 0.001).

Abstract:Objective: To investigate Vietnamese people's knowledge, attitudes, and experience in purchasing medicines and functional foods online. Methods: Via an online survey, the data of 1,070 participants were collected, including their general characteristics, Internet use, previous experience, knowledge, and attitudes towards purchasing medicines/functional foods online. Factors associated with their knowledge and attitudes were identified via multivariate linear regression models. Results: During 2022-2023, about 97.2% of participants used the Internet to seek health information (self-diagnosis: 65.0%, self-medication: 72.6%). Roughly 52.8% bought medicines and/or functional foods online. Among 565 buyers, 41.8% felt satisfied. Only 19.9% understood that selling medicines online was illegal in Vietnam. The main benefits of purchasing medicines/functional foods online that many people agreed on included convenience (87.1%), freedom from location (84.8%), and being able to order/buy products after opening hours (84.7%). Many people felt worried about the ability to buy counterfeit or substandard products (87.7%), inaccurate product information (85.0%), the lack of supervision of the authorities (83.7%), and increasing risks of drug abuse, self-medication, and treatment non-adherence (82.5%). Roughly 84.3% found distinguishing between legal and illegal online pharmacies difficult. Participants' average knowledge and attitude scores were 6.514 ± 2.461 (range: 0-16) and 89.330 ± 13.720 (range: 23-115), respectively. The main factors associated with people's knowledge and attitudes towards purchasing these products online included their frequency of Internet use, seeking health information online for self-medication, feeling satisfied with previous experience, and having at least one chronic disease. Conclusions: Many Vietnamese people's knowledge about purchasing medicines/functional foods online was limited. With the increasing need for online shopping, enhancing their knowledge is paramount. In the forthcoming years, when the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities publish legal documents and enact laws involving online pharmacies and trading medicines on the Internet, ways to recognize licensed online pharmacies must be widely propagated and disseminated in the community.

Abstract:Applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) this research investigates the factors explaining the purchasing intention of organic food among consumers living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and identifies factors influencing their attitude toward buying organic foods. The quantitative method with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Model (SEM) from 370 valid questionnaires were used. The study found that health consciousness & food safety, environmental consciousness & consumer knowledge, and availability product impact significantly on consumer attitude toward buying organic food; Customer attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control have a significant influence on their purchasing intention. The findings of the study provide useful information to marketers for increasing organic food consumption in Vietnam. The findings imply that marketing activity should focus on the change of people’s attitude and lifestyles to increase the consumption of organic food in Ho Chi Minh City.

Abstract:This study aims to discuss the role of social media in shaping consumer attitudes in the Vietnamese context. The research examines the impact of green attitude, green customer value, and social media on environmental concerns, subjective norms, and perceived green value concerning green consumers' food purchase intention. The study utilizes data from a survey conducted among 483 consumers in Hanoi, Vietnam, and adopts the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the initial framework for studying green food purchase intention. We modify and extend the TPB model by incorporating cultural, social, and personal psychological factors relevant to green food consumption. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of the factors influencing consumer purchase intention in Hanoi, Vietnam. The results demonstrated the influence of social media on subjective norms, environmental concerns, and perceived green value, which in turn affect green food purchase intention among Vietnamese consumers. These results imply that to increase green food preferences among consumers, governments should also consider social media-based education programs to build an understanding of green food and sustainable consumption and emphasize the outstanding benefits of green products for the environment and society. In addition, marketers should pay attention to providing complete information and advertisements about green food products on social media.

Abstract:Purpose: This article analyzes the factors influencing consumers' behavior toward healthy food during the COVID-19 period in Vietnam. Design/methodology/approach: Healthy food is increasingly crucial in customers' awareness and purchasing behavior. During the COVID-19 crisis, people were more aware of maintaining good health. The study assessed people's shopping behavior, specifically the decision to purchase healthy food during the COVID-19 period. The study was conducted with 368 consumers who regularly purchase healthy foods online and offline in Hanoi, Vietnam. Findings: The findings reveal that ease of purchase, fear of COVID-19, and purchasing experience positively impact customers' purchase decisions; meanwhile, the overall risk negatively impacts customers' purchase decisions in Hanoi. Research, Practical & Social Implications: From these results, the retailers and companies can propose sales and marketing plans to expand the market for retail supermarkets, healthy food stores, and restaurants to those who use healthy food after any severe pandemic in the future. Originality/value: There is a shortage of research on healthy food during COVID-19 in emerging countries like Vietnam. This is expected to shift consumer preferences dramatically during the pandemic. People consider more healthy food because of hectic lifestyles and to reduce pandemic effects. Therefore, this research sheds light on customers' purchase decisions on healthy food and the significant factors affecting the purchase decisions under COVID-19 in Vietnam.

Abstract:Along with the development of the Internet and technology, food retailers have increasingly adopted online channels that enable consumers to buy food products online. This research aims to investigate the factors that influence consumer attitude and intention towards online food purchasing. A research framework was developed by combining the technology acceptance model with website trust, which is an important facilitator of online shopping. Using an online survey, data were obtained from 319 online food shoppers in an Asian emerging economy, i.e., Vietnam. Results from structural equation modeling show that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and website trust are important drivers of attitude towards online food purchasing. Among these drivers, perceived ease of use has the greatest impact on attitude. Additionally, attitude and website trust exert a direct and positive effect on intention towards online food purchasing. Taken together, these findings have important managerial implications for key stakeholders, such as online food retailers, associations, and policy makers. One key implication is that online food sellers must endeavor to make their websites simple to use, easy to navigate, reliable, and secure. Several potential caveats for future research studies are also presented in this paper.

Abstract:In recent times, the Vietnamese e-commerce market is in a period of strong development, in addition, to the sharp increase in people’s demands to join e-commerce platforms after the epidemic. The research group started with an overview study, then research hypotheses and models were proposed. After conducting preliminary qualitative and quantitative research to adjust the appropriate scales, the research group created a questionnaire and collected data in online forms with a sample size of 350. Next, the data was entered into the software for SEM analysis. The results of the study indicate that the quality of the e-commerce platform has an indirect impact on the purchase intention through the positive impact on the trust and the negative impact on the perceived risk. Attitudes towards information, trust, perceived risk, and perceived usefulness have direct influences on purchase intention. Attitude towards information, trust, and perceived usefulness have positive effects on purchase intention, while perceived risk harms purchase intention. In addition, purchase intention is relatively strongly influenced by trust and perceived usefulness. Perceived risk and attitude towards information have little influence on purchase intention. Finally, the research team proposes some solutions for businesses to increase the purchase intention of consumers through e-commerce platforms.

Abstract:Introduction: Food safety is an important public health concern globally. Risk communication is one of crucial element to manage food safety. While current food safety studies have focused on contamination of hazards or risk factors, limited research exists on consumer concerns, knowledge and perception about the actual risk food poses to their health. This study aimed to assess and compare the knowledge and perceptions regarding food safety, and the information needed and trusted by pork consumers in Northern Vietnam. Methods: A total of 225 consumers recruited from three different market types: modern urban, traditional urban and traditional rural, were interviewed using a questionnaire between November to December 2019. Results: The majority of participants (81.8%) were female and consumers interviewed at modern urban retail were younger than those interviewed at traditional retail settings ( p < 0.01). Sixty-five percent of participants across the three retail types agreed that microbes were the most common hazards which can make them sick, but the adverse health effect due to chemical hazards was ranked higher than that of biological hazards. Most participants often received food safety information that was about animal diseases (such as African swine fever most recently), chemical contamination and the unknown origin of food rather than about food poisoning and measures to prevent it. Food safety messages from television and professional experts were the most trusted sources and consumer preference was for information about the origin of food (traceability) and how to choose safe food. Participants were willing to receive food safety information daily to weekly. A lack of perception and awareness about animal welfare related to pig farming or slaughtering was reported by most respondents (84.3%). Discussion: These findings provide insight on Vietnamese consumer knowledge gaps, information demand and communication channels for food safety, so that risk communicators and managers can implement better food safety awareness campaigns and communication to consumers.

Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the relationship between security, individuality, reputation on cognitive trust, perceived risk, consumer attitudes, and purchase intention of online shopping. This study extended the model of customers “online shopping intention, including from the positive impact of customer trust and the negative impact on customers” perceived risk on online sales businesses. The research method used to evaluate and test the scale and theoretical model in the study is quantitative research with sample size n = 358 through the survey to deliver questionnaires directly to subjects in Vietnam. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed for data analyses. The results showed that security, and reputation positively affect cognitive trust, whereas it negatively affects perceived risk. Additionally, privacy has a negatively influence cognitive trust and perceived risk. Besides, cognitive trust had a positive influence on attitudes towards online shopping, but perceived risks negatively affect attitudes towards online shopping. In addition, the attitude towards online shopping positively affected customers’ intention to purchase online. Finally, attitude as a mediator, we confirm that there exists an indirect relationship between cognitive trust, perceived risk and purchase intention, which make a considerable contribution to a better insight into consumer behavior on online shopping in Vietnam. This study gave enterprises owners’ recommendations which is understanding the nature of online transactions which are customers and enterprises interact and transact mainly through websites and interfaces, which needs to build trust and peace of mind for customers is definitely consider seriously. The results may be generalized to a limited extent.

Abstract:In the era of innovative technologies, the physical border is no longer a concern in exchanging goods thanks to the widespread use of internet connections. On this basis, the study explores the determinants that impact cross-border online consumers’ purchase intentions in Hanoi, Vietnam. As fundamental ideas, the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) are integrated with the influence of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The examined factors consist of Consumer Attitude, Subjective Norms, Perceived Behavioral Control, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Risk, Trust, and RCEP. The research was conducted on a survey questionnaire of 253 online shoppers in Hanoi who have experienced cross-border purchasing. The data was processed using several statistical methods, namely descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The analysis reveals that Consumer Attitude, Subjective Norms, Perceived Behavioral Control, Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, and Trust have a positive influence on the consumer’s intention to cross-border e-commerce (CBEC), while perceived risk and RCEP do not exert any force on the intention. Among these variables, Risk perception and trust have been demonstrated to have the most significant impact on online purchase intention. The outcomes of the study indicate that online retailers or intermediaries adopt a third-party payment processor and publish policies to protect consumers’ private information. It is also suggested that the government should educate the public on the benefits of RCEP, implement the relevant policies, and provide guidance for the sellers to follow to utilize the advantages of RCEP.
Critical Factors Influencing Consumer Online Purchase Intention for Cosmetics and Personal Care Products in Vietnam

Abstract:With the rapid development of the Internet, online shopping has grown so fast that almost any good or service can be sold online today. The popularity and rapid growth of e-commerce signal a huge market opportunity for e-retailers. From the organizational perspective, it is necessary to evaluate and explore what drives customers to buy their products or to use their services. This study, therefore, aims to explain the online purchase intention and its determinants of Vietnamese customers for cosmetics and personal care products. Quantitative data was collected from an online survey conducted among university students, then was put into SPSS and AMOS for further analysis. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s alpha test, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), regression analysis, and SEM were used to examine data from 434 valid answers. The research findings reveal that four factors positively affect purchase intention: Shopping enjoyment has the most significant impact, followed by trust, benefit, and website quality. On the other hand, perceived risk negatively influences purchase intention. While the cosmetics and personal care industry is thriving with a huge number of producers and consumers throughout the world, this study contributes to the existing literature in terms of capturing customers’ needs and developing effective strategies to attract more online users.

Abstract:Food contamination and food poisoning have been causing serious problems undermining consumer confidence in Vietnam and traceable food is a potential solution to this problem. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the intention to use traceable fisheries food and the impact level of each factor based on the "Theory of Planned Behavior" (TPB) model on consumers in Ho Chi Minh City. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method was used to analyze the data of 200 participants who were surveyed through face-to-face interviews at organic food stores, supermarkets, shopping centers, and some other locations in Ho Chi Minh City. Research results showed that customer intention for the consumption of traceable fisheries products is formed mainly based on their attitudes while subjective norms showed an indirect effect on intention through attitude. Although the prediction of intention on traceable fisheries consumption behavior was indicated, perceived behavioral control was the key to actual consumption.

Abstract:This study aims to shed light on the determinants of organic food purchase intention in Vietnam. It provides novel insights by demonstrating that perceived value and perceived quality significantly influence purchase intention, while price does not. Moreover, the study unravels the critical mediating role of self-efficacy between price, perceived value, perceived quality, and purchase intention. These findings carry significant implications for marketers and advertising professionals as they offer insights into how promoting the perceived value and quality of organic food over price can drive purchase intention. Additionally, the research reveals how self-efficacy affects consumer behavior, highlighting the need to design effective interventions that improve self-efficacy to increase organic food consumption in Vietnam. Thus, this study has significant practical implications for marketers and policymakers who seek to reduce anti-consumption behavior toward organic food and promote its cultivation and marketing in Vietnam.

Abstract:The purspose of this study is to indentify factors influencing the consumer intention towards the online food purchasing in Phnom Penh. The conceptual frameworkis developed from previous study which includes perceived convenience, customer control, advertsing, technolgy eagerness, online purchase attitude, and online purchase intention. The quantitative method was applied to distribute questionaires to 400 respondents. Multi-stage sampling technique was conducted in nonprobability sampling approach, using judgmental sampling to select relevant respondents in Phnom Penh, quota sampling to calculate the sample size of the targeted respondents, and convenience sampling to distribute questionaires online, using Google-based surevy form. Item-Objective Congruence and Cronbach’s Alpha were employed to validate the constructs. Confirmatory Factior Aalysis (CFA) was used to verify conventient and discriminant validity, and goodness of fit indices. Structural Equation Model (SEM) was carried out to test the relationship among variables. The results from the analysis revealed that advertisng and technology eargerness have signigicant influences on online purchase attitude, and online purchase attitude has significant influence on purchase intention. However, the customer control and perceived convenience do not have any influences on the online purchase attitude.
Organic Food Purchases in an Emerging Market: The Influence of Consumers' Personal Factors and Green Marketing Practices of Food Stores

Abstract:The consumption of food has a significant impact on the environment, individuals and public health. This study aims to investigate the integrative effects of consumers' personal and situational factors on their attitude and purchase behavior of organic meat. The consumption of this product has been widely regarded as contributing towards sustainable food practices. The study was conducted in an emerging market economy, i.e., Vietnam. Data were collected using a customized and validated survey instrument from a sample of 609 organic meat consumers at four food outlets in Hanoi. The findings suggested that consumers' concerns regarding the environment, health, food safety and their knowledge of organic food, all significantly impacted their attitude towards the purchase behavior of organic meat. Interestingly, their positive attitude did not necessarily translate into their actual purchase of organic meat. Additionally, food stores' green marketing practices significantly enhanced consumers' actual purchase behavior. Conversely, premium prices of organic meat were certainly a deterrent for the actual purchase of organic meat. The findings of this study have several important implications for organic food producers, retailers, policy makers and socio-environmental organizations that seek to develop intervention strategies aimed at increasing organic meat consumption in Vietnam.
Consumer ethnocentrism, cosmopolitanism, product judgment, and foreign product purchase intention: An empirical study in Vietnam

Abstract:This study aims to determine the relationship between consumer ethnocentrism, consumer cosmopolitanism, imported product judgment, and foreign product purchase intention in Vietnam. This paper tries to present its results empirically, which might be helpful in preparing a strategy for Vietnamese customers’ international purchasing behavior to increase competition at retail companies in Vietnam. It uses a questionnaire with a purposive random sampling of 311 customers in Vietnam. Analysis was conducted through a quantitative descriptive analysis, measurement of variable dimensions on the questionnaire using a seven-point Likert scale, and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses. This study found that imported product judgment, consumer cosmopolitanism, social influence, and perceived behavioral control positively influence foreign product purchase intention, whereas customer ethnocentrism has a negative impact on that intention. The association between consumer cosmopolitanism and foreign product purchase intention is mediated by imported product evaluation and consumer ethnocentrism. At the same time, national identity does not affect consumer ethnocentrism and foreign product purchase intentions. Besides, this study offers some managerial implications for marketers in decisions linked to Vietnamese customers’ international purchasing behavior to increase competition in the domestic market. Abstract:Abstract Background Street food plays a valuable role in several Asian countries including Vietnam. Improving the safety of street food is an important responsibility for many local food authorities. This study aims to characterize the business profile of fixed and mobile street food vendors, and to compare their compliance with the food safety criteria. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using a questionnaire and observational checklist to assess the ten Vietnamese food safety criteria prescribed under Decision No. 3199/2000/QD-BYT for street food vendors in Can Tho city. A total of 400 street food vendors, composed of fixed and mobile vendors, in urban areas of the city were randomly selected for the survey. Results The study showed significant differences between the two types of street food vendors in educational level ( p = 0.017); business profile, including types of foods vended, area in use, number of employees, training in food safety, and business registration paperwork; and the status of compliance with the ten-food hygiene and safety criteria ( p < 0.01). Poisson regression analysis found that education attainment (IRR = 1.228, p = 0.015), food safety training (IRR = 4.855, p < 0.01), total business capital (IRR = 1.004, p = 0.031) and total area in use (IRR = 1.007, p = 0.001) appeared to be significantly positively associated with food safety and hygiene compliance. In contrast, mobile vending type was negatively associated with the likelihood of adhering to the ten criteria (IRR = 0.547, p = 0.005). Conclusions These findings emphasize the need for training and education programs to improve food safety knowledge and practice among street food vendors. Basic infrastructure and services, especially clean water, proper sanitation, and waste disposal facilities, should be provided to help street food vendors better practice food safety and hygiene regulations.

Abstract:Vietnam’s MZ generation, a key group in the consumer market, is choosing anti-aging health foods in addition to skin care. Accordingly, in this study, Vietnamese women in their 20s to 40s living in the southern region of Vietnam were anonymously administered through Google questionnaires from January 22, 2024 to March 22, 2024, and 475 questionnaires, excluding inappropriate questionnaires, were used as final analysis data. Using, multiple regression analysis was performed including frequency analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach coefficient, and descriptive statistical analysis. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, regarding the purchase characteristics of health functional foods, ingredients and efficacy are considered important when purchasing Anti-aging health functional foods, the method of obtaining information is the Internet, the purchase channel is an Internet shopping mall, and the average monthly purchase cost is 200,000~500,000 VND. It was found that domestic health functional food brands were not used for less than. Second, anti-aging awareness was increasing in health functional food purchasing behavior, such as seeking efficacy, disease prevention, and brand seeking. Third, the impact of Anti-aging awareness on health functional food purchasing behavior showed that the higher the Anti-aging awareness, the higher the health functional food purchasing behavior. Summarizing the above results, Anti-aging awareness of Vietnamese MZ generation female consumers was found to have a positive effect on health functional food purchasing behavior. The results of this study can be used as basic data for developing and establishing sales strategies for anti-aging foods or services.

Abstract:The technological revolution has brought many benefits as well as challenges to the economy, including Vietnam. The benefits of the technological revolution are associated with the application of technology platforms to life, the development of e-commerce has made it possible for customers to make online shopping and helps consumers and the platform to shop online economy has the ability to reduce procurement costs. However, the challenges of the technological revolution can make it difficult for a group of people who are not yet tech-savvy to update and grasp the benefits that technology brings. Studying the factors affecting the online shopping decision of consumers in Vietnam, through a survey of 200 consumers and using regression analysis using SPSS software, the research results show that: When consumers perceive the usefulness of online shopping, they will make purchasing decisions to satisfy their personal needs. Moreover, product quality is the most important factor affecting consumers' online shopping decisions. Research also confirms the usefulness of reference groups when they can advise consumers to make online shopping decisions.

Abstract:Food choices that shape human diets and health are influenced by various socio-economic factors. Vietnam struggles to meet many nutrition targets where links between food choice and diet have not been widely explored. This study assesses the food choice motives, based on a 28-item food choice questionnaire (FCQ), and the diet quality of 603 adults in three sites (urban, peri-urban, and rural) in northern Vietnam. We assess diet quality using the Diet Quality Index-Vietnam (DQI-V) which consists of variety, adequacy, moderation, and balance components. Using factor analysis, we grouped FCQ items into five factors: health focus, sensory appeal, mood ethics, convenience, and familiarity. The structural equation modeling indicates that food choice motives significantly impact the DQI-V and its components but in different directions. The results show that sensory appeal has a positive association with the overall DQI-V score, while having a negative impact on the variety component. Findings present a potential trade-off issue for interventions and policies related to food products. Nutrition knowledge is positively associated with all elements of diet quality across all three study sites. Vietnamese agrobiodiversity could be better utilized to increase dietary diversity. Differentiated policies are necessary to address the poor dietary diversity and adequacy in northern Vietnam.
