Abstract:Objectives The present study clarified the prevalence of poor sleep quality and its relation to lifestyle habits, competitive-based activities, and psychological distress among Japanese student-athletes in the initial pandemic period (2020) and 1 year later (2021). Methods In the present study, student-athletes were defined as individuals belonging to university athletic clubs. The data of two cross-sectional surveys (2020: n = 961 and 2021: n = 711) were collected from student-athletes in 6 universities in Japan. First, the prevalence of poor sleep quality (Pittsburgh sleep quality index score > 5) was investigated. Relationships between poor sleep quality and lifestyle habits, competition-based activities, and psychological distress were then explored using multivariate logistic regression analysis adjusted for age, sex, and body mass index. Results The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 33.6% in 2020 and 36.6% in 2021. Poor sleep quality in 2020 was related to late bedtime, taking supplements before bed, part-time job (no late night), stressors of expectations and pressure from others, and psychological distress, whereas that in 2021 was related to early wake-up time, skipping breakfast, taking caffeinated drinks before bed, use of smartphone/cellphone after lights out, stressors of motivation loss, and psychological distress. Conclusions In both 2020 and 2021, one-third of student-athletes had poor sleep quality and psychological distress was its common risk factor. Lifestyle habits and competition stressors associated with poor sleep quality were pandemic-specific in 2020, but similar to the prepandemic period in 2021.

Abstract:This study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of poor subjective sleep quality in elite judo athletes. A subjective cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted with 106 elite judo athletes who participated in the training camp of the Japanese national team. Eighty-six respondents (men: 52.3%; average age: 22.9 ± 3.1 years) with complete responses were included in the analysis (valid response rate: 81.1%). Subjective sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The prevalence of poor sleep quality (PSQI score ≥ 5.5), the mean PSQI score, and subscale scores were investigated. Relationships between poor sleep quality and attributes, lifestyle habits, competition-based activities, and psychological distress were explored using Fisher's exact tests and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Thirty-five respondents (40.7%) reported poor sleep quality. The percentage and subscale scores of the respondents for sleep latency, sleep duration, and daytime dysfunction were higher than those of the population of Japanese national-level athletes. The mean PSQI score of the respondents was similar to that of some elite athlete populations but higher than those of others. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that psychological distress was associated with poor sleep quality. In conclusion, the prevalence of poor subjective sleep quality in elite judo athletes was suggested to be similar or higher among elite athlete population. Sleep latency, sleep duration, and daytime dysfunction status were worse in elite judo athletes than in Japanese national-level athletes. Psychological distress was a risk factor for poor subjective sleep quality in elite judo athletes. Poor sleep quality and insufficient sleep of a collegiate student-athlete population

Abstract:Objective: Poor and inadequate sleep negatively impact cognitive and physical functioning and may also affect sports performance. The study aim is to examine sleep quality, sleep duration, and daytime sleepiness in collegiate student-athletes across a wide range of sports. Design: Questionnaire. Setting: University setting. Participants: 628 athletes across 29 varsity teams at Stanford University. Measurements: Athletes completed a questionnaire inquiring about sleep quality via a modified Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), sleep duration, and daytime sleepiness via Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Sleep quality on campus and while traveling for competition was rated on a 10-point scale. Results: Collegiate athletes were classified as poor sleepers (PSQI 5.38 ± 2.45), and 42.4% of athletes experience poor sleep quality (reporting PSQI global scores >5). Athletes reported lower sleep quality on campus than when traveling for competition (7.1 vs 7.6, P< .001). Inadequate sleep was demonstrated by 39.1% of athletes that regularly obtain <7 hours of sleep on weekdays. Fifty-one percent of athletes reported high levels of daytime sleepiness with Epworth scores ≥10. Teen student-athletes in the first and second year of college reported the highest mean levels of daytime sleepiness. Greater total sleep time was associated with daytime functioning including lower frequency of difficulty waking up for practice or class (P< .001) and lower frequency of trouble staying awake during daily activities (P< .001). Conclusions: Collegiate athletes frequently experience poor sleep quality, regularly obtain insufficient sleep, and commonly exhibit daytime sleepiness.

Abstract:Abstract Introduction College student athletes experience unique factors in addition to those of being a traditional college student that may exacerbate sleep difficulties and/or mental health difficulties which may in turn negatively affect sleep (e.g., competition pressures, training, travel demands). Previous research has found that mental health problems are common in this population, however, less attention has been given to the evaluation of sleep disorders. This study provides an evaluation of sleep disorder questionnaires and comparison with a structured clinical sleep disorders interview (SCISD-R). Methods College student athletes (N = 114) from two Universities completed self-report questionnaires and participated in a clinical interview. Average total scores were calculated for the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Nightmare Disorders Index (NDI), Reduced Composite Scale of Morningness (rCSM), Sleep Condition Indicator (CSI), Shiftwork Disorder Index (SWDI), STOP-Bang Questionnaire, PROMIS Sleep Disturbance B (SD) and Sleep Related Impairment (SRI), and International RLS Rating Scale (IRLS-RS). Diagnostic criteria were calculated for the SCISD-R, NDI, SCI, and SWDI. Endorsement of Insomnia Identity (“I am an Insomniac”) was obtained. Results Averages and standard deviations are as follows: ESS = 6.75±3.16; NDI = 2.83±3.38; rCSM = 20.42±2.92; SCI = 24.87±5.92; SWDI = 3.11±2.03; STOP-Bang = 1.28±1.06; PROMIS SD = 18.05±6.35; PROMIS SRI = 17.37±6.46; IRLS-RS = 2.70±4.62. Diagnostic criteria for assessments and clinical interview with shared symptoms are as follows: Nightmare disorder: 4 participants met criteria on the NDI and 3 met criteria on the SCISD-R. Insomnia disorder: 1 participant met criteria on the SCI and 10 met criteria on the SCISD-R. Circadian disorder - Shiftwork type: 11 participants met criteria for on the SWDI and 1 met criteria on the SCISD-R. Additionally on the SCISD-R, 5 participants met for hypersomnolence, 5 met for possible obstructive sleep apnea, and 1 met for possible narcolepsy. 6 participants endorsed an insomnia identity. Conclusion College student athletes endorse symptoms across a variety of sleep disorders. Differences in the number of participants who met criteria based on assessment measures versus the structured clinical interview indicate that alternate cutoff scores may be warranted for this population. Abstract:Student athletes balance academic, social, and athletic demands, often leading to increased levels of stress and poor sleep. This study explores the relationship between sleep quality, sleep hygiene, and psychological distress in a sample of student athletes. Ninety-four student athletes completed the six-item Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6), Sleep Hygiene Practice Scale, and four components from the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Age, gender, and sport were also collected. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index revealed that 44.7% of student athletes received ≥6.5 hr of sleep each night; 31% of athletes showed signs of severe mental illness according to the K6. Stepwise regression predicted K6 scores with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Sleep Hygiene Practice Scale scores as independent variables. A significant model accounting for 26% of the variation in K6 scores emerged; sleep schedule and sleep disturbances were significant predictors. Athletic staff should highlight the importance of sleep for mental health; suggestions on how to help athletes are provided.

Abstract:University athletes are unique because they not only have to cope with the normal psycho-physiological stress of training and playing sport, but they also need to accommodate the stress associated with their academic studies along with considerable stress from their social environment. The ability to manage and adapt to stress ultimately helps improve athletic performance, but when stress becomes too much for the athlete, it can result in maladaptation's including sleep disruption which is associated with performance loss, negative mood changes, and even injury or illness. This research aimed to determine if sleep quantity and quality were associated with maladaptation in university athletes. We examined subjective measures of sleep duration and sleep quality along with measures of mood state, energy levels, academic stress, training quality and quantity, and frequency of illness and injury in 82 young (18–23 years) elite athletes over a 1 year period in 2020. Results indicate sleep duration and quality decreased in the first few weeks of the academic year which coincided with increased training, academic and social stress. Regression analysis indicated increased levels of perceived mood (1.3, 1.1–1.5, Odds Ratio and 95% confidence limits), sleep quality (2.9, 2.5–3.3), energy levels (1.2, 1.0–1.4), training quality (1.3, 1.1–1.5), and improved academic stress (1.1, 1.0–1.3) were associated with ≥8 h sleep. Athletes that slept ≥8 h or had higher sleep quality levels were less likely to suffer injury/illness (0.8, 0.7–0.9, and 0.6, 0.5–0.7 for sleep duration and quality, respectively). In conclusion, university athletes who maintain good sleep habits (sleep duration ≥8 h/night and high sleep quality scores) are less likely to suffer problems associated with elevated stress levels. Educating athletes, coaches, and trainers of the signs and symptoms of excessive stress (including sleep deprivation) may help reduce maladaptation and improve athlete's outcomes.

Abstract:This investigation examined precompetitive sleep behaviour of 103 athletes and how it relates to precompetitive mood and subsequent performance. Results revealed that on the night before competition athletes slept well under the recommended target of eight hours of sleep for healthy adults, with almost 70% of athletes experiencing poorer sleep than usual. It was found that anxiety, noise, the need to use the bathroom and early event times were amongst the most commonly reported causes of disrupted sleep in athletes on the night prior to competition. The negative moods of fatigue and tension were both significantly negatively correlated with precompetitive relative sleep quality (r = -0.28, P = 0.004, r = -0.21, P = 0.030, respectively) and total sleep time (r = -0.23, P = 0.023, r = -0.20, P = 0.044, respectively). Additionally, tension was positively correlated with number of awakenings (r = -0.20, P = 0.045). Vigour was seen to be significantly positively associated with relative sleep quality (r = 0.24, P=0.013). The relationships between relative sleep quality and fatigue, tension and vigour accounted for approximately 4 - 5% of the variance in mood scores. Disrupted sleep did not demonstrate any significant relationship with relative sporting performance. Conclusions from the present investigation are that athletes may be at particular risk of disrupted sleep on the night prior to competition, and this disruption can negatively relate to an athlete's precompetitive mood states.

Abstract:Good sleep before and after competitions is crucial to cognitive, physiological performance and recovery. Yet, elite athletes face a unique set of challenges when acquiring good sleep before and after competitions, and indeed commonly report sleep problems when it matters most. This study examined the sleep of elite athletes before and after competition compared to before and after free days. A total of 1808 unique nights of actigraphy ( n = 1495) and sleep diary ( n = 1335) data from elite Australian Football League and National Rugby League male athletes ( N = 85, M-age = 24.4 ± 3.6) were collected and analysed using multi-level mixed models. On nights before competitions, athletes advanced sleep timings ( p < .001, d = 0.63) and increased total sleep time ( p < .001, d = 0.65) compared to nights before free days. On nights after competitions, athletes delayed sleep timings ( p < .001, d = 1.64), reduced total sleep time ( p < .001, d = 1.28), and had significantly worse quality sleep ( p < .001, d = 0.71) compared to nights after free days. Sleep was especially worse following night competitions. While elite athletes and organisations may be implementing effective sleep strategies to optimise sleep the night before competitions, strategies to improve sleep after competitions may be lacking. We discuss potential factors contributing to this asymmetry and propose areas for research moving forward.

Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire in Japanese: Adaptation and Validation Study

Abstract:Context: General screening methods for athletes are limited. This study aims to analyze the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the athlete sleep screening questionnaire. Methods: In total, 111 female collegiate athletes completed the initial test and retest. The independent variables included the kind of sports of the participants and their athletic level, grade (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior), and age. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients. Athletes competing in team sports and individual sports were compared to evaluate for differences. Results: A total of 38.7% of athletes had moderate to severe sleep difficulty score. Their Cronbach's alpha for test and retest were .34 and .44, respectively. The intraclass correlation coefficient indicated sufficient internal consistency and test-retest validity. The mean sleep difficulty scores were 7.0 (2.3) and 6.5 (2.1) for test and retest, but no significant difference was observed between the individual and team sport athletes. Results of multivariable regression analysis revealed that having sleep and performance issues during travel was related to sleep difficulty scores (Coef 1.44, P < .01). Conclusions: Athletes of all levels have sleep disorders. The Japanese version of athlete sleep screening questionnaire has been validated with sufficient test-retest validity but has poor internal consistency. Thus, although Japanese version of the athlete sleep screening questionnaire is an appropriate questionnaire for assessing sleep disorders in athletes whose primary language is Japanese, future research is needed to optimize the questionnaire accounting for cultural variation.

Abstract:Sleep and mental health are important aspects of human health that work concurrently. However, sleep and mental health disorders are often overlooked and undiagnosed in sport due to the negative stigma associated with them. Evidence suggests that athletes are disproportionately affected by mental health issues and sleep problems. Internal and external pressures contribute to psychological distress. Variable competition times, travel and stress are detrimental to sleep quality. Retirement from sport can deteriorate sleep and psychological wellbeing, particularly for those who retired involuntarily and identify strongly with their athletic role. When untreated, these issues can manifest into a range of clinical disorders. This is concerning, not only for compromised athletic performance, but for general health and wellbeing beyond sport. Previous research has focussed on sleep and health independently among currently competing, or former, athletes. To date, no research has comprehensively assessed and compared sleep complaints and mental health issues between these two cohorts. Moreover, research has failed to obtain data across a variety of different competition levels, sports, and genders, leaving the current scope of the literature narrow. Comorbid conditions (e.g., concussion history, obesity), ex-college athletes, and mental health has been the focus of existing literature post-retirement. Future research would benefit from employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to comprehensively assess the prevalence and severity of sleep and mental health disorders across current and retired athletes. Research outcomes would inform education strategies, safeguarding athletes from these issues by reducing negative stigmas associated with help-seeking in sport and ultimately increase self-guided treatment.

The model includes descriptions of the dependence of channel charge and electron mobility on the charge of interface traps and a simple but effective calculation of the voltage-dependent drain resistance. Comparisons with both physical 2-D device simulations and experiments validate the correctness of the modeling approach and the accuracy of the results.
Sleep Difficulties in Swiss Elite Athletes

Abstract:For athletes, sleep is essential for recovery and performance. Yet, up to two-thirds of athletes report poor sleep quality. Comprehensive data across all sports disciplines on the underlying causes of sleep problems are missing. We reanalyzed a data set of N = 1004 Swiss top athletes across an extensive array of 88 sports to gain knowledge on the specific deficits in sleep health with respect to gender, sport classes, sport-related factors, and well-being. We found that 18% of athletes were affected by at least two out of five high-risk sleep factors: 9% of athletes slept less than 6 h per day, 30% were dissatisfied with their sleep, 17% showed problems falling asleep within 30 min, 18% of athletes reported difficulty maintaining sleep more than three times a week, and 6% of athletes used sleeping pills more than once a week. We found sleep health strongly linked to overall well-being and mental health (22% showed at least moderate symptoms of either depression or anxiety). Therefore, screening and treating sleep disorders might effectively improve mental health and general well-being as well as performance among athletes around the globe.

Abstract:Abstract Introduction It is increasingly known that elite athletes have a high prevalence of sleep difficulties and that chronotype may influence this relationship. Although adolescents are also at risk for sleep disturbances, including a phase delay, few studies have characterized the sleep of adolescent athletes. The aim of this study was to investigate sleep difficulties and lifestyle habits in young athletes of different chronotypes. Methods 208 young elite athletes (M=14.9y) completed the following online questionnaires during the first wave of the pandemic: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and homemade questions on electronic and caffeine usage. Training quantity during, and before the pandemic (retrospectively) was also assessed. One-way ANOVAs were computed with chronotypes on 1) sleep duration and 2) social jetlag calculated from the PSQI, 3) PSQI total score, 4) ISI total score, 5) average number of time they use electronic during the hour before bedtime/week, and 6) average number of caffeinate product consume/day. A repeated measures ANOVA was also computed with the chronotypes on the training quantity before and during the pandemic. Results Results reveal significant differences between chronotypes in sleep duration (F[2,206]=20.12, p<.001), social jetlag (F[2,206]=6.77, p=.001), PSQI total score (F[2,206]=9.73, p<.001), and ISI total score (F[2,206]=11.19, p<.001). Post-hoc analyses show that in all cases, evening types had significantly more sleep disturbances than neutral types and morning types, while they were no differences between neutral and morning types. The same pattern was also found in usage of electronic devices less than an hour before bed (F[2,206]=10.04, p<.001), where evening types used electronic devices before bed significantly more than neutral types and morning types. No differences were found between neutral and morning types. No differences were found in caffeine usage (p=.06). Finally, results show that athletes of all chronotypes significantly reduced their amount of training hours during the pandemic (F[2,206]=123.47, p<.001). Conclusion This study raises important questions about challenges associated with sleep difficulties and evening chronotypes in young athletes. Given the very early onset of these difficulties, the implementation of prevention strategies and sleep hygiene awareness programs in young adolescents should be included and prioritized in national athlete development programs. "Dual-career" athletes emphasize the pursuit of academic excellence along with athletic performance. Purpose: The study aimed to assess sleep characteristics and sleep quality in dual-career collegiate badminton athletes. Furthermore, the study explored associations between training and academic stress and sleep, providing a theoretical basis for better training and sleep programs for dual-career athletes. Participants and Methods: In this study, 15 dual-career collegiate badminton athletes were recruited, and 12 subjects (male n = 8, female n = 4, mean age 20.3 ± 1.7) completed the questionnaire. Repeated measurements were taken monthly in the spring semester from March to August 2021. The questionnaire assessed sleep quality and daytime sleepiness by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Score (ESS). Moreover, we collected average training, study time per week, and monthly sports competitions and academic tests to quantify participants' training and academic stress. Results: An average of 36.1% of dual-career athletes reported poor sleep and 25.0% had excessive daytime sleepiness. Overall, a significant positive correlation existed between PSQI scores and weekly study hours (r = 0.308, p = 0.009). Significant positive correlations were found between the four stressors and PSQI (August: r = 0.868, p < 0.001; July: r = 0.573, p = 0.026) or ESS scores (March: r = − 0.678, p = 0.015; August: r = 0.598, p = 0.040) for specific months. Hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) analysis identified that lower study and training hours predict better sleep quality. Conclusion: Dual-career collegiate badminton athletes had a higher prevalence of poor sleep and daytime sleepiness, and daytime sleepiness did not result in better sleep quality; study and training hours had the greatest effect on the sleep quality of dual-career collegiate badminton athletes. Keywords: training stress, academic stress, dual-career collegiate athletes, sleep quality, subjective evaluation Sleep is key in daily activities, physiology, cognitive function, and physical recovery. 1 Previous studies have shown that sleep deprivation negatively affects cognitive function, learning and memory, reaction time and mood. 2–5 Inadequate sleep duration has also been shown to affect metabolic and endocrine functions. 6–8 It also increases physical exertion during exercise, impairing endurance and strength performance. 9–11 The sleep health of athletes is of increasing concern. Abstract:Elite athletes are susceptible to inadequate sleep, which may peak during competition and be exacerbated by poor sleep behaviours. This study sought to characterise and compare the sleep quality and sleep behaviours of elite track and field athletes during preparation and major competitions. Forty elite international track and field athletes (50% female, aged 25.1 ± 3.9 years) completed the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire and the Athlete Sleep Behaviour Questionnaire on three separate occasions: during habitual training, during a pre-meet training camp and during a major international competition. Overall, 62.5% of athletes reported at least mild sleep difficulty during competition. Athletes reported higher sleep difficulty and poorer sleep behaviour during major competitions and the pre-meet training camp compared to habitual training ( P = .001–.025). No significant differences were observed between the training camp and major competition. Global sleep behaviour scores were underpinned by unique characteristics at each timepoint. Sleep behaviour (R 2 = .330, P = .017), injury status (R 2 = .253, P = .003) and major championship experience (R 2 = .113, P = .034) were associated with sleep difficulty during competition. Sleep quality and behaviours vary according to stage of the track and field season, providing a foundation for targeted intervention.

Abstract:Introduction There is no doubt that high-quality sleep is essential for athletes’ health, regeneration, and performance (Vorster et al., 2022). Unfortunately, sleep problems are as widespread in professional sports as they are in the rest of the population: about 11% of athletes have problems falling asleep and staying asleep, 20% have serious problems with sleep during competition periods, 30% are taking sleeping pills during the season, 10% show symptoms of obstructive sleep apnoea, 5% show symptoms of restless leg syndrome, and 15% report anxiety dreams before competitions (Gupta et al., 2017; Tuomilehto et al., 2017; Walsh et al., 2021). Comparative work that systematically analyses and compares sleep problems across sports remains scarce, so these figures should be viewed with caution. Especially for Swiss elite athletes’ representative numbers about the main sleep disorders are missing. The aim of the study is therefore to examine the status of sleep health among elite Swiss athletes. Methods An online questionnaire was sent to all Swiss elite athletes. Over 1,000 athletes (data collection is still running) filled out the questionnaire on various symptoms of sleep problems. The questionnaire included at least one item to screen for the six main categories of sleep disorders. These items were taken from different validated sleep questionnaires (e.g., PSQI, ASBQ, SDS). Results The prevalence of symptoms associated with sleep disorders of the six main categories: ‘insomnias’ ‘sleep-related breathing disorders’, ‘central disorders of hypersomnolence’, ‘circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders’, ‘parasomnias’, ‘sleep-related movement disorders’ will be presented. Discussion/Conclusion This online survey will provide representative data on the prevalence of sleep problems in Swiss elite athletes. The dataset will provide novel insides into the distribution of certain sleep problems over the various sports in Switzerland. Sleep problems in athletes certainly need to be taken seriously and treated. They are often not just concomitants of other illnesses and problems. Abstract:Introduction: The aim of this investigation was to determine which factors were associated with symptoms of sleep and mental health disorders in former athletes. Methods: Former athletes (N = 173, 50% women) who retired from any competition level within the last 20 years participated in an online survey. The survey consisted of the Athlete Sleep Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ), Personal Wellbeing Index-Adult (PWI-A), Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale-Revised (CESD-R), and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7). Results: Binary logistic regressions revealed that both age (OR = 0.95 [95% CI:0.92, 0.99], p = 0.007) and gender (OR = 2.28 [95% CI:1.09, 4.79], p = 0.029) were associated with anxiety, with women and younger ex-athletes presenting greater risk of anxiety symptoms. Higher body mass was associated with an increased risk for sleep difficulty (OR = 1.13 [95% CI:1.03, 1.23], p = 0.008), sleep disordered breathing (OR = 1.20 [95% CI:1.10, 1.30], p < 0.001), and compromised wellbeing (OR = 0.89 [95% CI:0.83, 0.96], p = 0.001). Athletes who subjectively placed a lower priority on sport while competing presented greater risk of sleep disordered breathing (OR = 2.00[95% CI:1.05, 3.80], p = 0.035). No associations between recency retirement and any outcome measures were observed. Discussion: Findings suggest potential predictive factors for difficulty transitioning out of sport. Future longitudinal research should consider the interplay between sport re-engagement and the incidence and chronicity of sleep and mental health disorders.

Abstract:Sleep inadequacy has previously been associated with increased risk of injury and reduced performance. It is unclear if sleep disorders are associated with musculoskeletal symptoms, which may be a predictor of serious injury and affect performance. The aim was therefore to assess sleep behavior in elite junior badminton players and its association to musculoskeletal symptoms. In 2018, players at the World Junior Badminton Championship completed the Athlete Sleep Behavior Questionnaire and a modified version of the World Olympic Association Musculoskeletal Health Questionnaire. Participants were categorized with poor or moderate/good sleep behavior as the independent variable. Musculoskeletal symptoms were the primary outcome and was categorized using yes/no questions. Relevant musculoskeletal symptoms were defined as pain higher than 30 mm Numeric Rating Scale pain score or more than 30 minutes of joint stiffness a day. Group comparison was performed using chi-square analysis and logistic regression for primary outcome adjusted for age, sex, ethnicity, previous injury, training load, and resting days. Of the 153 participants, 28% reported poor sleep scores. There was no difference between poor and moderate/good sleep score concerning demographic variables such as sex, age, ethnicity, previous injury, training load, and resting days. There were 27% with current musculoskeletal symptoms but with no difference in groups between poor and moderate/good sleep score ( P = .376). This yielded an adjusted odds ratio of 1.23 (95% confidence intervals 0.52; 2.90). Twenty-eight percent of the participants reported poor sleep behavior. Twenty-seven percent experienced current musculoskeletal symptoms. We found no statistical differences in reported musculoskeletal symptoms when comparing athletes with poor sleep behavior to athletes with moderate/good sleep behavior.
