Abstract:This present study reports the biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Ag/Au bimetallic nanoparticles (BNPs) using bark extract of plant Tamarix aphylla (T.A). The bark extract contained total polyphenolic compounds and total flavonoids as 0.0362 mg/mg and 0.2928 mg/mg of the dried bark extract respectively. Silver nitrate (AgNO3) and hydrogen tetra chloroaurate trihydrate (HAuCl4.3H2O) were used as precursors while deionised water and methanol (CH3OH) were used as solvents. Synthesized nanoparticles were characterized through UV-visible spectroscopy, SEM (scanning electron microscopy), TEM (transmission electron microscopy) and FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) for their morphology, structure, and identification of different functional groups. The UV-visible spectra of AgNPs, AuNPs and Ag/Au BNPs showed peaks at 436, 532 and 527 nm respectively due to the excitation of Surface Plasmon Resonance. SEM and TEM images showed spherical and well distributed nanoparticles (NPs) with particle size as 29 nm (AgNPs), 13 nm (AuNPs) and 26 nm (Ag/Au BNPs). The synthesized NPs are significantly active against inhibition of free radicals, α-amylase, α-glucosidase and have anti inflammatory potential with AgNPs having the highest percent activity at 400 μg/ml, followed by Ag/Au BNPs. The same trend (AgNPs > Ag/AuBNPs > AuNPs) has been observed at all concentrations i.e. 100 μg/ml, 200 μg/ml and 400 μg/ml. AuNPs have shown lowest activity at all concentrations. So the current study strongly confirms use of T.A bark extract as reducing agent for synthesis of metal NPs and opens up a new possibility of using these green synthesized NPs as biomedicines. We also suggest further in vivo investigation to report any side effects if present.
Bioprospecting a Native Silver-Resistant Bacillus Safensis Strain for Green Synthesis and Subsequent Antibacterial and Anticancer Activities of Silver Nanoparticles.

Abstract:Green nanomaterials have gained much attention due to their potential use as therapeutic agents. The present study investigated the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from a silver-resistant Bacillus safensis TEN12 strain, which was isolated from metal contaminated soil and taxonomically identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The formation of AgNPs in bacterial culture was confirmed by using UV-vis spectroscopy with an absorption peak at 426.18 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the involvement of capping proteins and alcohols for stabilization of AgNPs. Moreover, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) confirmed the crystalline nature and spherical shape of AgNPs with particle size ranging from 22.77 to 45.98 nm. The energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) revealed that 93.54% silver content is present in the nano-powder. AgNPs showed maximum antibacterial activity (20.35 mm and 19.69 mm inhibition zones) at 20 mu g mL(-1) concentration against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively and significantly reduced the pathogen density in broth culture. Furthermore, AgNPs demonstrated significant anticancer effects in the human liver cancer cell line (HepG2) in MTT assay, whereas, no cytotoxic effects were demonstrated by AgNPs on normal cell line (HEK293). The present study suggests that the biogenic AgNPs may substitute chemically synthesized drugs with wider applications as antibacterial and anticancer agents. (C) 2020 The Authors. Bio-fabrication of silver nanoparticles using the leaf extract of an ancient herbal medicine, dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), evaluation of their antioxidant, anticancer potential, and antimicrobial activity against phytopathogens

Abstract:In recent years, the use of nanoparticle-based antimicrobials has been increased due to many advantages over conventional agrochemicals. This study investigates the utilization of common medicinal plant dandelion, Taraxacum officinale, for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (TOL-AgNPs). AgNPs were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against two important phytopathogens, Xanthomonas axonopodis and Pseudomonas syringae. The morphology, size, and structure of TOL-AgNPs were characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) showed the presence of phytochemicals involved during synthesis of NPs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) analysis shed light on the size of monodispersed spherical AgNPs ranging between 5 and 30 nm, with an average particle size of about 15 nm. The TOL-AgNPs (at 20 μg/mL concentration) showed significant antibacterial activity with significant growth inhibition of phytopathogens X. axonopodis (22.0 ± 0.84 mm) and P. syringae (19.5 ± 0.66 mm). The synthesized AgNPs had higher antibacterial activity in comparison with commercial AgNPs. Synergistic assays with standard antibiotics revealed that nanoformulations with tetracycline showed better broad-spectrum efficiency to control phytopathogens. They also possessed significant antioxidant potential in terms of ABTS (IC50 = 45.6 μg/mL), DPPH (IC50 = 56.1 μg/mL), and NO (IC50 = 55.2 μg/mL) free radical scavenging activity. The TOL-AgNPs showed high cytotoxic effect against human liver cancer cells (HepG2). Overall, dandelion-mediated AgNPs synthesis can represent a novel approach to develop effective antimicrobial and anticancer drugs with a cheap and eco-friendly nature.

Abstract:The need of non-toxic synthesis protocols for nanoparticles arises developing interest in biogenic approaches. The present project was focused on cost effective, environment congenial synthesis of Ag nanoparticles and their biological applications. Leaf and root extracts of Ricinus communis were used as a reducing and stabilizing agent in synthesis process. A Proposed mechanism in published literature suggested that Indole-3-acetic acid, l-valine, triethyl citrate, and quercetin-3-0-p-d-glucopyranoside phytoconstituents of Ricinus communis act as reducing and capping agents. The synthesized Ag NPs were characterized with a help X-ray diffractometer, Transmission electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The XRD results inveterate the synthesis of pure nano size crystalline silver particles. The FTIR data revealed the possible functional groups of biomolecules involved in bio reduction and capping for efficient stabilization of silver nanoparticles. TEM analysis confirmed the almost spherical morphology of synthesized particles with mean size 29 and 38 nm for R-Ag-NPs (root) and L-Ag-NPs (leaf), respectively. The stability of synthesized nanoparticles was examined against heat and pH. It was observed that synthesized nanoparticles were stable up to 100 °C temperature and also showed stability in neutral, basic and slightly acidic medium (pH 05–06) for several months while below pH 5 were unstable. The synthesized silver nanoparticles had promising inhibition efficiency in multiple applications, including as bactericidal/fungicidal agents and Urease/Xanthine oxidase enzymes inhibitors. The cytotoxicity of synthesized nanoparticles shows that the concentration under 20 μg/mL were biologically compatible.

Abstract:It has long been known that nerves stimulate growth and maintenance of skeletal muscles in ways not dependent on physical contacts, but numerous attempts to identify and characterize the myotrophic agent(s) secreted by nerves have been unsuccessful. We here suggest that products of the neuregulin gene may be these agents. The neuregulins are a family of proteins made by alternative splicing of a single transcript to give as many as 15 protein products. One member of this family, glial growth factor 2 (rhGGF2) is a very potent stimulator of myogenesis in L6A1 myoblasts, giving a maximal stimulation of cell fusion and creatine kinase elevation at a concentration of 1 ng/ml (18 pM). The stimulation of myogenesis is not rapid, but it is prolonged, continuing over a period of at least 6 days. The effects of rhGGF2 are additive with those of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) or its analog R3-IGF-I, suggesting that the actions of these two myotrophic agents differ in at least one rate-limiting step. We have observed one possible difference; unlike the IGFs, rhGGF2 does not induce elevation of the steady state level of myogenin mRNA.

Abstract:We demonstrated a single-walled carbon-nanotube-deposited planar lightwave circuit (PLC) waveguide for four-wave-mixing (FWM)-based wavelength conversion. FWM is generated from the interaction between the propagating light through the PLC waveguide and the deposited carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the overcladding-removed core of the waveguide. The third-order nonlinearity of the CNTs is originated from the interband transitions of the pi electrons causing nonlinear polarization similar to other highly nonlinear organic optical materials. FWM-based tunable wavelength conversion of a 10 Gbit/s non-return-to-zero signal is achieved with a power penalty of 3 dB in the bit-error-rate measurements. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a CNT-technology-based device for integrated photonic applications.

Abstract:Silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) were green synthesized at room temperature using different concentrations of the Thymbra spicata L. var. spicata (Zahter) aqueous leaf extracts for the first time. With the synthesis of AgNPs using the leaf extract of Cynara scolymus (Artichoke) and Mentha piperita (Peppermint), the biological activities of the nanoparticles synthesized using leaf extract of three economically significant plants have been studied comparatively. Nanoparticles were characterized by different spectroscopic and microscopic analysis. TEM analysis of the biosynthesized AgNPs revealed that the size and shape of the AgNPs were changed with the plant extract concentration. Biologically synthesized AgNPs from leaf extracts of the three different plants displayed significant differences in antibacterial activity against two different gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Also, the results from this study show the shape dependence of the antibacterial and cytotoxic activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized using T. spicata leaf extract. The nanoparticles with different shapes exhibited the strongest antibacterial and cytotoxic activity compared to mostly spherical nanoparticles. Present results clearly indicate that biological activities of silver nanoparticles were affected by nanoparticle shape and the source of the plant extract used in the synthesis.

Abstract:The use of traditional plants has been tremendously increased due to their higher biological impact, minimal side effects, and comparatively low cost. Moreover, the emergence of antibacterial resistance is also shifting the scientific community to reconsider herbal remedies which provide relatively safer, cheap and biologically tolerable solutions. The present research was designed to fabricate the Mentha spicata conjugated silver nanoparticles (Me-AgNPs). Furthermore, the assessment of the bactericidal potential of Me-AgNPs against various bacterial strains was another motive behind this study. Fabricated NPs were characterized with the help of the UV-Visible spectrophotometric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Me-AgNPs showed a significant zone of inhibition (23 ± 0.2 mm) at 8 mg/mL against Staphylococcus aureus and a 4.0 ± 0.2 mm zone of growth inhibition at 2 mg/mL against Aeromonas veronii . The stability of Me-AgNPs was assessed at various pH (4, 7 and 11) and temperatures (25 °C, 4 °C, 37 °C, 75 °C). The significant zones of inhibition (11.3 ± 0.3 mm, 8.3 ± 0.3mm, 14.3 ± 0.3 mm, and 7.6 ± 0.2 mm) were observed at pH 11 against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, respectively. Growth inhibition zones (14.0 ± 0.5 mm and 13.0 ± 0.5 mm) were also determined against B. subtilis and S. aureus at 25 °C. DPPH bioassay was conducted to find the antioxidant properties of Me-AgNPs. The highest (38.66 ± 0.2%) free radical scavenging activity was shown by Me-AgNPs at 4 mg/mL. Present study results concluded that biogenic Me-AgNPs have bactericidal as well as anti-oxidative potential. Moreover, these green synthesized Me-AgNPs could maintain their potency and stability at a wide range of pH and temperature.

Antibacterial, antioxidant, and haemolytic potential of silver nanoparticles biosynthesized using roots extract of Cannabis sativa plant

Abstract:In this study, Cannabis sativa roots extract has been employed for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The appearance of reddish-brown colour followed by absorption peak of AgNPs at 408 nm through UV-vis spectrophotometry suggested biosynthesis of AgNPs. The size of the particles ranged from 90-113 nm, confirmed using DLS and TEM along with zeta potential of -25.3 mV. The FTIR provided information regarding the phytochemical capping. The study was further elaborated for determining AgNPs antibacterial, antioxidant, and cellular toxicity using MIC, DPPH, MTT, and haemolytic assays, respectively. The AgNPs were significantly effective against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive), as compared to that of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative). AgNPs also exhibited remarkable antioxidant potential wherein 58.01 ± 0.09% free radical scavenging was observed at a concentration of 100 µg/ml. AgNPs revealed lower cytotoxicity where cell viability was observed to be 52.38 ± 0.6% at a very high concentration of 500 µg/ml in HEK 293 cells. Further, very low toxicity was seen in RBCs i.e. 6.47 ± 0.04% at a high concentration of 200 µg/ml. Thus, the current study beholds anticipation that Cannabis sativa ethanolic root extract-mediated AgNPs may play a vital role in therapeutic.
Green Synthesis of Terminalia ferdinandiana Exell-Mediated Silver Nanoparticles and Evaluation of Antibacterial Performance

Abstract:This study uses a novel method in which extracts from different parts of a single plant are used to synthesize well-defined silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to address the lack of capping agents in certain plant extracts. We focused on synthesizing AgNPs with enhanced biomedical activity using aqueous leaves and fruit extracts of Terminalia ferdinandiana Exell, a plant native to northern Australia that is known for its high phenolic content and associated health benefits. The impact of using parameters such as the Ag+ ion-to-extract ratio and pH on AgNP synthesis was examined. The formation of AgNPs was confirmed using UV–visible spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. The AgNPs synthesized at a pH of 8 and 1:25 Ag+/extract ratio exhibited the lowest particle size and polydispersity index. The AgNPs synthesized with leaf extract (AgKL) were monodisperse and exhibited a smaller hydrodynamic diameter (37 nm) compared to the fruit extract nanoparticles (AgKP), which were polydisperse and larger (147 nm). Phytochemicals in T. ferdinandiana aqueous leaf extract act as effective capping and stabilizing agents, enabling the synthesis of small-sized and homogenous AgNPs, which the fruit extract alone could not achieve. The in vitro bioactivity was evaluated using antioxidant and antibacterial assays and compared with the crude extract. Both the AgNPs and T. ferdinandiana extracts demonstrated strong 2,2 diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity. However, only AgKL showed excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria based on minimum inhibitory and bactericidal results. Mixing 50% leaf extract with fruit extract resulted in well-stabilized NPs (AgKPL) with a hydrodynamic diameter of 33.4 nm and superior antibacterial properties. These results indicate that AgKL and AgKPL have significant potential for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.

Phytochemical Investigation of Tecoma capensis Flower Aqueous Extract and In Vitro Biological Studies: Anti‐Bacterial and Anti‐Proliferative Activities of its Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract:The fabrication of Tecoma capensis silver nanoparticles (TcAgNPs) using an aqueous extract is being explored. The particles are showing a cubic crystal structure (1–10 nm) under UV‐visible spectroscopy, TEM, and XRD. The antibacterial activity against various strains is being evaluated, emphasizing the efficacy of TcAgNPs. Additionally, the MTT assay is demonstrating their potential as antiproliferative agents, suggesting possible therapeutic applications. In this study, we report the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Tecoma capensis flower aqueous extract (TcAqFE). The impact of AgNPs on microstructural, optical, antibacterial and antiproliferative properties have been investigated through UV‐visible spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fourier infra‐red spectroscopy (FTIR), agar well diffusion technique assay and MTT. The particles size estimated from TEM and XRD is in the range of 1–10 nm. The XRD pattern reveals that the Tecoma capensis silver nanoparticles (TcAgNPs) have a cubic crystal structure. FTIR spectra showed band positions at 1071, 1358, 1620, 1962, 2150, 2920 and 3361 cm−1. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in AgNPs became evident with an absorption peak at 407 nm. GC‐MS analysis of ethanolic flower extract revealed the presence of major phytochemical constituents, including Butanal (57.14 %), Propanol (20.23 %), Ethanone (4.88 %), Mesitylene (3.70 %), Hexanal (3.33 %), 4‐Cyclopentene‐1,3‐diol, trans (3.16 %), Furan (2.94 %), 5‐Hepten‐2‐one (2.58 %), and Acetic acid (1.68 %). The antibacterial assay results clearly indicate that the TcAgNPs exhibited the maximum activity against Salmonella typhi, with inhibition zone (IZ) values of (40±1.4 mm), followed by Bacillus subtilis (35.66±2.0 mm), Staphylococcus aureus (32.6±0.64 mm), Escherichia. coli (29.66±2.05 mm), Listeria monocytogenes (27±1.63 mm), and Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibiting the least IZ values (23±1.6 mm). Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranged from 0.20 to 2.81 mg/mL. The highest MIC value 2.81 mg/mL was observed in case of Salmonella typhi, while Staphylococcus aureus (0.20 mg/mL), displayed the lowest MIC values. The MIC of Gentamycin also ranged from 0.012 to 0.024 mg/mL. MTT assay demonstrated that the aqueous extract was potent against the cancer cell line A549, with a GI50 of 71.79 μg/mL. These results suggest that TcAgNPs have therapeutic potential and can serve as antibacterial and antiproliferative agents to protect against several ailments.

Abstract:Due to increasing concerns about environmental impact and toxicity, developing green and sustainable methods for nanoparticle synthesis is attracting significant interest. This work reports the successful green synthesis of silver (Ag), silver-titanium dioxide (Ag@TiO2), and silver-selenium dioxide (Ag@SeO2) nanoparticles (NPs) using Beta vulgaris L. extract. Characterization by XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDX confirmed the successful formation of uniformly distributed spherical NPs with controlled size (25 ± 4.9 nm) and desired elemental composition. All synthesized NPs and the B. vulgaris extract exhibited potent free radical scavenging activity, indicating significant antioxidant potential. However, Ag@SeO2 displayed lower hemocompatibility compared to other NPs, while Ag@SeO2 and the extract demonstrated reduced inflammation in a carrageenan-induced paw edema animal model. Interestingly, Ag@TiO2 and Ag@SeO2 exhibited strong antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotia sclerotium, as evidenced by TEM and FTIR analyses. Generally, the findings suggest that B. vulgaris-derived NPs possess diverse biological activities with potential applications in various fields such as medicine and agriculture. Ag@TiO2 and Ag@SeO2, in particular, warrant further investigation for their potential as novel bioactive agents.

Abstract:Green synthesis is the most effective and environmentally friendly way to produce nanoparticles. The present research aimed at the biosynthesizing of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Tribulus terrestris seed extract as the reducing and stabilizing agent and investigating their anti-diabetic properties. Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis spectroscopy were used to analyze the synthesized silver nanoparticles from Tribulus terrestris (TT-AgNPs). The spectroscopic characterization revealed a surface Plasmon resonance band at 380 nm, which verified the development of TT-AgNPs. The transmittance peaks were observed at 596, 1450, 1631, 2856, 2921, and 3422 cm−1 through the FTIR spectrophotometer. The XRD spectrum showed four distinct diffraction peaks in the 2θ range at 20° to 60°. Intense peaks were at 26.32°, 30.70°, 44.70°, 56.07°, 53.75°, 66.28°, and 75.32°. The SEM analysis revealed that the prepared TT-AgNPs were clustered loosely with a smooth and spherical structure and were of relatively uniform size. The in vitro antidiabetic potential of TT-AgNPs was assessed by using glucose yeast uptake, glucose adsorption, and alpha-amylase assays. TT-AgNPs showed the highest activity (78.45 ± 0.84%) of glucose uptake by yeast at 80 μg/mL. In the glucose adsorption assay, the highest activity of TT-AgNPs was 10.40 ± 0.52% at 30 mM, while in the alpha-amylase assay, TT-AgNPs exhibited the maximum activity of 75.68 ± 0.11% at 100 μg/mL. The results indicate a substantial anti-diabetic effect of the TT-AgNPs. Furthermore, the in vivo antidiabetic study was performed on TT-AgNPs in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. After receiving TT-AgNPs treatment for 30 days, the mice were sacrificed for biochemical and histological analyses of pancreatic and liver samples, which demonstrated a good improvement when compared to the control group. Mice treated with TT-AgNPs showed a significant drop in blood sugar levels, showing that the biosynthesized TT-AgNPs have effective anti-diabetic properties.

Abstract:Green synthesis is one of the promising pathways for biologically active nanoscale materials. Herein, an eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (SNPs) was carried out using an extract of Teucrium stocksianum. The biological reduction and size of NPS were optimized by controlling the physicochemical parameters such as concentration, temperature, and pH. A comparison of fresh and air-dried plant extracts was also undertaken to establish a reproducible methodology. The biosynthesized SNPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR, SEM, DLS, and XRD analyses. The prepared SNPs exhibited significant biological potential against multi-drug-resistant pathogenic strains. The results revealed that the biosynthesized SNPs exhibit high antimicrobial activity at low concentrations compared to the parent plant extract. Minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) values were found between 5.3 μg/mL to 9.7 μg/mL for the biosynthesized SNPs, whereas the aqueous extract of the plant showed many high values of MIC, i.e., between 69 and 98 μg/ML. Furthermore, the synthesized SNPs were found efficient in the photolytic degradation of methylene blue under sunlight.

Abstract:Medicinal plants are long known for their therapeutic applications. Tinospora cordifolia (commonly called gulancha or heart-leaved moonseed plant), a herbaceous creeper widely has been found to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and anti-cancer properties. However, there remains a dearth of reports regarding its antibiofilm activities. In the present study, the anti-biofilm activities of phytoextractof T. cordifolia and the silver nanoparticles made from this phytoextract were tested against the biofilm of S.taphylococcus aureus, one of the major nosocomial infection-producing bacteria taking tetracycline antibiotic as control. Both phytoextract from the leaves of T. cordifolia, and the biogenic AgNPs from the leaf extract of T. cordifolia, were found successful in reducing the biofilm of Staphylococcus aureus. The biogenic AgNPs formed were characterized by UV- Vis spectroscopy, Field emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE- SEM), and Dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique. FE- SEM images showed that the AgNPs were of size ranging between 30 and 50 nm and were stable in nature, as depicted by the zeta potential analyzer. MIC values for phytoextract and AgNPs were found to be 180 mg/mL and 150 μg/mL against S. aureusrespectively. The antibiofilm properties of the AgNPs and phytoextract were analyzed using the CV assay and MTT assay for determining the reduction of biofilms. Reduction in viability count and revival of the S. aureus ATCC 23235 biofilm cells were analyzed followed by the enfeeblement of the EPS matrix to quantify the reduction in the contents of carbohydrates, proteins and eDNA. The SEM analyses clearly indicated that although the phytoextracts could destroy the biofilm network of S. aureuscells yet the biogenicallysynthesizedAgNPs were more effective in biofilm disruption. Fourier Transformed Infrared Radiations (FT- IR) analyses revealed that the AgNPs could bring about more exopolysaccharide (EPS) destruction in comparison to the phytoextract. The antibiofilm activities of AgNPs made from the phytoextract were found to be much more effective than the non-conjugated phytoextract, indicating the future prospect of using such particles for combatting biofilm-mediated infections caused by S aureus.

Abstract:In this study, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of silver nanoparticles synthesized with the aqueous plant extract of Acer oblongifolium leaves were defined using a simplistic, environmentally friendly, reliable, and cost-effective method. The aqueous plant extract of Acer oblongifolium, which served as a capping and reducing agent, was used to biosynthesize silver nanoparticles. UV visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy were used to analyze the biosynthesized Acer oblongifolium silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus paramycoides and Bacillus cereus) and Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli) were used to test the AgNPs' antibacterial activity. The presence of different functional groups was determined by FTIR. The AgNPs were rod-like in shape. The nanoparticles were more toxic against Escherichiacoli than both Bacillus cereus and Bacillus paramycoides. The AgNPs had IC50 values of 6.22 and 9.43 and mg/mL on HeLa and MCF-7, respectively, proving their comparatively strong potency against MCF-7. This confirmed that silver nanoparticles had strong antibacterial activity and antiproliferative ability against MCF-7 and HeLa cell lines. The mathematical modeling revealed that the pure nanoparticle had a high heat-absorbing capacity compared to the mixed nanoparticle. This research demonstrated that the biosynthesized Acer oblongifolium AgNPs could be used as an antioxidant, antibacterial, and anticancer agent in the future.

Abstract:In recent years, the biological synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from microorganisms has become an emerging trend for developing biocompatible nanomaterials that finds applications in nano and biomedical sectors. In the present study, we demonstrated a facile, green and eco-friendly method for AgNPs synthesis using the endophytic fungi (Colletotrichum incarnatum DM16.3) isolated from medicinal plant Datura metel and its in vitro antithrombin and cytotoxic activity. At first, biosynthesis of colloidal AgNPs was predicted by visual observation of color change and UV-visible spectra demonstrated specific surface plasmon resonance peak at 420 nm which confirmed the presence of nanoparticles. Microscopic analyses revealed the structure of highly aggregated, spherical and crystalline AgNPs in the diameter range of 5-25 nm. Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectral analysis confirmed the presence of probable biomolecules required for the reduction of silver ions. In vitro evaluation of thrombin activity demonstrates that AgNPs could exert strong inhibition against both thrombin activity (87%) and thrombin generation (84%), respectively. Further, in silico based mechanistic analysis yielded a better insight in understanding the probable amino acids responsible for AgNPs binding with thrombin protein. Similarly, in vitro cytotoxicity of synthesized AgNPs on human epithelial cells using MTT assay did not produce any substantial effects after 24 h exposure which indicates excellent biocompatibility nature, whereas notable toxicity was observed on human cancerous (HeLa) cells at 50 μg/mL (IC50 value). In addition, assessment of AgNPs at 10 μg/mL concentration via crystal violet method on biofilm forming Gram-positive (Vibrio cholerae) and Gram-negative bacteria (Bacillus cereus) revealed inhibition up to 85 and 46%, respectively. Overall, this study showed the possibility of microbially synthesized AgNPs as a potent inhibitor for managing acute thrombosis and highlighted their role for other biomedical applications.
Exploring the Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, and Antiviral Potential of Eco-Friendly Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Using Leaf Aqueous Extract of Portulaca oleracea L.

Abstract:Herein, the prospective applications of green fabricated silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) within the biomedical field were investigated. The leaf aqueous extract of Portulaca oleracea L., a safe, cheap, and green method, was used to fabricate Ag-NPs. The maximum plasmon resonance of synthesized NPs has appeared at 420 nm. The various biomolecules present in the plant extract to assemble spherical Ag-NPs with sizes of 5–40 nm were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared and transmission electron microscopy. The Ag was the major content of the formed Ag-NPs with an atomic percent of 54.95% and weight percent of 65.86%, as indicated by EDX. The crystallographic structure of synthesized NPs was confirmed by the diffraction of the X-ray. The dynamic light scattering exhibits the homogeneity and mono-dispersity nature with a polydispersity index of 0.37 in the colloidal fluid and a zeta potential value of –36 mV. The synthesized Ag-NPs exhibited promising antimicrobial efficacy toward various prokaryotic and eukaryotic pathogenic microorganisms with low MIC values of 12.5 μg mL−1 and 6.25 μg mL−1, respectively. Additionally, the P. oleracea-formed Ag-NPs showed optimistic antioxidant activity assessed by DPPH and H2O2 assay methods with the highest scavenging percentages of 88.5 ± 2.3% and 76.5 ± 1.7%, respectively, at a concentration of 200 μg mL−1. Finally, the biosynthesized Ag-NPs showed high antiviral properties toward the hepatitis A virus and Cox-B4 with inhibition percentages of 79.16 ± 0.5% and 73.59 ± 0.8%, respectively. Overall, additional research is essential to explore the Ag-NP-based aqueous extract of P. oleracea for human health. In the current investigation the use of synthesized Ag-NPs as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antiviral agents to protect against pathogenic microbes, degenerative diseases caused by various oxidative stresses, and deadly viruses is recommended.

Abstract:Herein this manuscript we demonstrate phytochemical screening results of different parts of common medicinal plants including Acacia nilotica buds, Acacia nilotica leaf, Syzgium aromaticum buds, Syzgium cumini leaf, Terminalia chebula dried fruit and Azadirachta indica leaves. Based on largest TPC and TFC, bud extract of Acacia nilotica was selected for microwave-assisted biological fabrication of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs). UV-Vis spectroscopy confirmed silver nanoparticles with a surface plasmon resonance between 410 and 460 nm. FTIR analysis indicated the existence of various bioactive compounds from extract capped the Ag-NPs which increased their stability. Crystallinity, lattice parameters, symmetry and average crystallite size (about 8.73 nm) of prepared Ag-NPs were examined by powder XRD. The spherical shaped Ag-NPs observed in TEM images further supported the size and crystallinity calculated on the basis of of powder XRD analysis. The Ag-NPs efficiently degraded IC dye (about 86.12%) at pH 3 and exhibited strong antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli . This approach offers a quick, energy-efficient method for producing high-yield and uniformly sized nanoparticles. Thus, microwave-assisted synthesis proves advantageous due to its reduced reaction time, lower energy consumption and the production of stable, non-aggregated green nanoparticles with narrow size distribution and high yield.
