What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This special issue aims to explore the application of novel imaging technologies in brain tumors, specifically addressing the following aspects: 1. **Improving Diagnostic Accuracy**: - **Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H-MRS)**: By optimizing echo time (TE), the study investigates the clinical potential of 1H-MRS in identifying IDH-mutant gliomas, particularly the role of 2HG (2-hydroxyglutarate) as a key biomarker. - **Combination of Amino Acid Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Advanced MRI**: The study explores the added value of combining these two techniques in the diagnosis of brain gliomas, especially in terms of grading and molecular characteristics. 2. **Enhancing Treatment Assessment**: - **Liquid Biopsy**: Proposes liquid biopsy as a non-invasive method to capture the molecular diversity of central nervous system (CNS) tumors and explores its integration with imaging technologies for more accurate characterization of brain tumors. - **PACS Integration Tools**: Investigates the feasibility of using PACS integration tools to quantify peritumoral edema and its potential role in predicting treatment outcomes, particularly in patients with brain metastases from lung cancer undergoing stereotactic radiosurgery. 3. **Application of Innovative Imaging Technologies**: - **Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)**: Introduces a method using GANs to convert T2-weighted FLAIR and T2-weighted MRI volumes and proposes a novel assessment scheme based on radiomic features. - **Multimodal Imaging**: Emphasizes the advantages of simultaneous PET/MRI in patients with brain gliomas, including reduced number and duration of imaging sessions, as well as decreased radiation exposure and need for repeated anesthesia in pediatric patients. 4. **Promoting Clinical Practice Improvement**: - **Radiomics and Radiogenomics**: Explores the application of these technologies in the diagnosis, grading, prognosis assessment, differentiation of treatment effects from tumor recurrence, and molecular classification of brain gliomas. - **Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools**: Discusses the integration of AI tools with PACS platforms to accelerate the clinical application of these technologies. Overall, this special issue brings together the latest advancements in the field of neuro-oncology imaging, aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy, predict treatment outcomes, and ultimately enhance the quality of patient care through non-invasive metabolic assessments, advanced imaging technologies, and innovative volumetric assessment methods.
