Abstract:Objective: We report a case of hemifacial spasm in a patient who had associated hearing loss, numbness throughout the face, tinnitus, and vertigo, all of which occurred when turning his head to the left. To our knowledge, these symptoms have not occurred in this pattern and with a single trigger. Clinical presentation: A 45-year-old man presented with a 3-year history of right-sided hemifacial spasm initially treated with botulinum toxin. One month before presentation, he had an episode of acute hearing loss in the right ear when turning his head to the left, followed by multiple episodes of transient hearing loss in his right ear, numbness in his right face in all distributions of the trigeminal nerve, tinnitus, and vertigo. He was found to have decreased sensation in nerves V1 to V3 and House-Brackmann grade 3/6 weakness in his right face, despite not having botulinum toxin injections in more than a year. Magnetic resonance imaging/angiography showed an ectatic vertebrobasilar system causing compression of the fifth, seventh, and eighth cranial nerves. Intervention: The patient underwent a retromastoid craniotomy and microvascular decompression. Postoperatively, he had complete resolution of his symptoms except for his facial weakness. The benefit has been long-lasting. Conclusion: Multiple, simultaneous cranial neuropathies from vascular compression are rare, but this case is an example of safe and effective treatment with microvascular decompression with durable results.

Abstract:E-Assessment is an innovative form for the evaluation of learners' knowledge and skills in online education, as well as in blended-learning environments, where part of the assessment activities is carried out online. As e-assessment involves online communication channel between learners and educators, as well as data transfer and storage, security measures are required to protect the environment against system and network attacks. The issue concerning security is challenging from both educational and technical point of views. Such issues are discussed under the scope of the TeSLA project. Educational challenging problems at e-assessment are analyzed and technical architectural recommendations for securing the e-assessment system according to the General Data Protection Regulation are provided.
[Painful tic convulsif: Case series and literature review]

Abstract:Background: The coexistence of hemifacial spasm and trigeminal neuralgia, a clinical entity known as painful tic convulsive, was first described in 1910. It is an uncommon condition that is worthy of interest in neurosurgical practice, because of its common pathophysiology mechanism: Neuro-vascular compression in most of the cases. Objective: To present 2 cases of painful tic convulsive that received treatment at our institution, and to give a brief review of the existing literature related to this. The benefits of micro-surgical decompression and the most common medical therapy used (botulin toxin) are also presented. Clinical cases: Two cases of typical painful tic convulsive are described, showing representative slices of magnetic resonance imaging corresponding to the aetiology of each case, as well as a description of the surgical technique employed in our institution. The immediate relief of symptomatology, and the clinical condition at one-year follow-up in each case is described. A brief review of the literature on this condition is presented. Conclusion: This very rare neurological entity represents less than 1% of rhizopathies and in a large proportion of cases it is caused by vascular compression, attributed to an aberrant dolichoectatic course of the vertebro-basilar complex. The standard modality of treatment is micro-vascular surgical decompression, which has shown greater effectiveness and control of symptoms in the long-term. However medical treatment, which includes percutaneous infiltration of botulinum toxin, has produced similar results at medium-term in the control of each individual clinical manifestation, but it must be considered as an alternative in the choice of treatment.

Abstract:Chronic pancreatitis/pancreatic cancer (CP/PC) is characterized by fibrous connective tissue proliferation induced by activated pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs). Galectin-1 is upregulated in activated PSCs and is important for the continuing activation of PSCs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of galectin-1 derived from activated PSCs on the progression of fibrosis in CP/PC. To this end, the expression of desmin, α-SMA, galectin-1, fibronectin and collagen type I in normal pancreatic, CP and PC tissues, as well as quiescent/activated PSCs, was investigated. The proliferation rate and migration ability of control, galectin-1-overexpressing and galectin-1-silenced PSCs were also evaluated, as well as the mRNA and protein expression of fibronectin, collagen type I, α-SMA, tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP)-1, MMP-2, Smad2 and TGF-β1. Furthermore, the effect of adding a TGF-β1 receptor inhibitor on the expression of these proteins was examined. The results revealed that the expression profile of desmin, α-SMA, galectin-1, fibronectin and collagen type I in the normal pancreas was similar to that of quiescent PSCs and the expression profile in CP/PC tissues was similar to that of activated PSCs. Furthermore, galectin-1-overexpressing PSCs exhibited a significantly higher proliferation rate and migration ability, while galectin-1-silenced PSCs exhibited a significantly lower proliferation rate and migration ability than the control PSCs. The expression of fibronectin, collagen type I, α-SMA, MMP-2 and TIMP-1 was also significantly higher in the galectin-1-overexpressing PSCs than the control PSCs and this effect was found to be mediated by the TGF-β1/Smad pathway. The trends in the expression of these factors were reversed in the galectin-1-silenced PSCs. From these findings, it can be concluded that overexpression of galectin-1 promotes PSC activity (proliferation and migration) and stimulates fibrosis by increasing extracellular matrix synthesis and decreasing the MMP/TIMP ratio via the TGF-β1/Smad pathway. Thus, galectin-1 may be a novel candidate for reversing or halting fibrosis progression in CP/PC.
Hemifacial spasms triggered by compression of tortuous anterior inferior cerebellar artery loop on the facial nerve in the internal auditory canal: A case report

Abstract:Rationale: Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is triggered by neurovascular compression mostly at the root entry/exit zone of the facial nerve. HFS with the responsible blood vessel located in the internal auditory canal (IAC) is a very rare occurrence. In our case, the HFS was triggered by compression of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) loop on the facial nerve in the IAC. Patient concerns: A 27-year-old female presented with a 5-year history of right-sided facial twitching with no obvious course. The frequency and severity of the attacks increases when the patient was anxious or agitated which severely affected her quality of life. Diagnosis: Preoperative 3D-TOF magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluation of cranial nerves showed that the right AICA loop had a tortuous course within the IAC and compressed the facial nerve. Intervention: Microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery was carried out to separate the tortuous AICA loop and facial nerve in the IAC using a Teflon pad. Outcomes: The abnormal muscle response disappeared intraoperatively and 2-years follow-up revealed no recurrence of her symptomatology. She is current well and go about her daily activities with no neurological deficits. Lesson: The attachment of the facial nerve to the tortuous AICA loop coupled with the pulsatile impulse of tortuous AICA loop may have resulted in the entrapment and compression of the CN VII in the IAC.
Tenth case of bilateral hemifacial spasm treated by microvascular decompression: Review of the pathophysiology

Abstract:Background: Bilateral hemifacial spasm (BHFS) is a rare neurological syndrome whose diagnosis depends on excluding other facial dyskinesias. We present a case of BHFS along with a literature review. Methods: A 64-year-old white, hypertense male reported involuntary left hemiface contractions in 2001 (aged 50). In 2007, right hemifacial symptoms appeared, without spasm remission during sleep. Botulinum toxin type A application produced partial temporary improvement. Left microvascular decompression (MVD) was performed in August 2013, followed by right MVD in May 2014, with excellent results. Follow-up in March 2016 showed complete cessation of spasms without medication. Results: The literature confirms nine BHFS cases bilaterally treated by MVD, a definitive surgical option with minimal complications. Regarding HFS pathophysiology, ectopic firing and ephaptic transmissions originate in the root exit zone (REZ) of the facial nerve, due to neurovascular compression (NVC), orthodromically stimulate facial muscles and antidromically stimulate the facial nerve nucleus; this hyperexcitation continuously stimulates the facial muscles. These activated muscles can trigger somatosensory afferent skin nerve impulses and neuromuscular spindles from the trigeminal nerve, which, after transiting the Gasser ganglion and trigeminal nucleus, reach the somatosensory medial posterior ventral nucleus of the contralateral thalamus as well as the somatosensory cortical area of the face. Once activated, this area can stimulate the motor and supplementary motor areas (extrapyramidal and basal ganglia system), activating the motoneurons of the facial nerve nucleus and peripherally stimulating the facial muscles. Conclusions: We believe that bilateral MVD is the best approach in cases of BHFS.
[Neuro-vascular decompression in hemifacial spasm: anatomical, electrophysiological and therapeutic results apropos of 100 cases]

Abstract:Hemifacial spasm is a neurological disorder due to abnormal hyperactivity of the facial nerve. The most common cause of hemifacial spasm is a neuro-vascular conflict in the cerebellopontine angle between a vascular loop and the root of the facial nerve (96% of cases). Tumors are the cause of hemifacial spasm in only 1% of cases). The authors present their results in 100 patients who underwent microvascular decompression for essential hemifacial spasm between 1990 and 1995. They used microsurgical and endoscopic procedures by a minimal retrosigmoid approach in all cases. The most common offending vessels were the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (70%), the vertebral artery (41%) and the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (28%). An aberrant vein was found in 2 cases. There were 38% of multiple artery-nerve conflicts. Physiopathology of hemifacial spasm is explained by two principal theories: in the ephaptic theory, hyperactivity and an abnormal nervous impulse pathway are due to a short demyelinated area on the nerve trunk caused by the offending vessel, inducing short circuiting between adjacent nerve fibers. In the nuclear theory, hyperactivity of the facial nerve is due to an abnormal and automatic activity of the facial nerve nucleus itself, induced by the vessel. The authors used pre and postoperative electromyographic tests and intraoperative electromyographic tests. Their results tend to prove the nuclear theory. Ninety per cent of the patients had a good result, with a mean follow-up time of 30 months in 60 cases. In 82% of the cases, there was a total recovery after a single procedure. There was no mortality and no facial palsy. Hearing loss occurred in less than 5%.

Abstract:Observations of phase locking in a single-cavity gyrotron oscillator operating at 35 GHz are reported. Injection of the locking power was made via a circulator into the gyrotron output guide. Locking was observed with input power levels as low as 35 dB below the gyrotron power. For low input powers, good agreement is found with theory based on lumped-element circuit modeling and a new distributed oscillator model.
Microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm : Surgical techniques and intraoperative monitoring

Abstract:Primary hemifacial spasm with few exceptions is due to the vascular compression of the facial nerve that can be evidenced with high resolution MRI. Microvascular decompression is the only curative treatment for this pathology. According to literature review detailed in chapter "conflicting vessels", the compression is located at the facial Root Exit Zone (REZ) in 95% of the cases, and in 5% distally at the cisternal or the intrameatal portion of the root as the sole conflict or in addition to one at brainstem/REZ. Therefore, exploration has to be performed on the entire root, from the ponto-medullary fissure to the internal auditory meatus. Because microvascular decompression is functional surgery, the procedure should be as harmless as possible and with a high probability of permanent efficacy. Besides facial palsy, main complications are hearing loss, tinnitus and gait disturbances. Causes are cochlea/labyrinth ischemia due to manipulations of their nutrient arteries and/or stretching of the eight nerve complex. To minimize the latter, the approach should not be with lateral-to-medial retraction of the cerebellar hemisphere, but along an infra-floccular trajectory, from below. In fact, most of the neurovascular conflicts are situated ventro-caudally to facial REZ at the brainstem, particularly those from a megadolicho-vertebrobasilar artery and its posterior inferior-cerebellar branch. Also, care should be taken not to cause any injury of the manipulated vessels or stretching of their perforators to brainstem. Heating from bipolar coagulation must be avoided. The inserted material used to maintain the offending vessel(s) away must not be neo-compressive. Intraoperative neuromonitoring is considered to be useful for achieving safe surgery at least until the learning curve has reached an optimal level, particularly BrainstemAuditory Evoked Potentials recordings. Increase in latency and/or decrease in amplitude of wave V warn excessive stretching or damage to the cochlear nerve, and decrease in amplitude of wave I signals possible ischemia of the cochlea. Free-running EMG of the facial muscles may warn against excessive manipulation of the facial nerve. Recording of the lateral spread responses - which are a sign of hyperexcitabilty of the facial motor system - may provide information on completeness of the decompression.
Hemifacial spasm caused by the brainstem developmental venous anomaly: A case report and review of the literature

Abstract:Background: Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is usually caused by vascular compression of the root exit zone (REZ) of the facial nerve. Dual compression of the REZ by veins and arteries is also associated with HFS, but venous origin alone is rarely reported. We present a rare case of HFS caused by the brainstem developmental venous anomaly (DVA) treated with microvascular decompression (MVD). Case description: A 30-year-old women presented with the left-sided HFS since the age of 18 years. The brainstem DVA was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and followed by two attempts of MVD at some other clinics without any improvement. At our hospital, MVD was performed through a left retromastoid craniotomy. Intraoperatively, after detaching the strong adhesions between the cerebellar hemisphere, petrosal dura and lower cranial nerves, and removing the Teflon sponge inserted during the previous operations, the compressing large vein was found, separated from facial nerve REZ and MVD was completed. The postoperative computed tomography angiography and MRI showed the thrombosis of the main trunk of DVA and decompression of the facial nerve REZ. Complete cessation of HFS with hearing preservation was observed with only slight weakness of mimic muscles which disappeared within 3 months after surgery. Conclusion: HFS associated with brainstem DVA is a very rare condition. MVD of the facial nerve REZ with transposition of the large draining vein should be considered as an effective treatment option.
[Role of endoscopy and vascular decompression in the treatment of hemifacial spasm]

Abstract:Although it has long been hypothesized that hemifacial spasm could arise from a conflict between the nerve and the artery, it is very difficult to distinguish between a normal arterial loop and a pathological conflict leading to facial symptoms. Several new elements would help in the definition of the cause and allow less traumatic treatment of idiopathic hemifacial spasm. They include magnetic resonance imagery with CISS sequences, limited retrosigmoid approach, endoscopy of the cerebellopontine angle and monitoring the facial nerve. In our experience with 20 cases, retrosigmoid approach with a combined surgical and endoscopic procedure has led to total involution of the spasms in 80% of the cases.
Intermediate Nerve Neuralgia Can Be Diagnosed and Cured by Microvascular Decompression

Abstract:Here, we present a case of a 55-year-old woman with a 10-year history of hemifacial spasm accompanied by 1-month ipsilateral paroxysmal otalgia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed the presence of vessels around the facial nerve root. Surgical exploration via suboccipital retromastoid craniotomy showed converging compression of the facial nerve root and intermediate nerve from both sides by an anterior inferior cerebellar artery loop. The patient's hemifacial spasm and ipsilateral otalgia were completely relieved after microvascular decompression of the facial nerve root and intermediate nerve. Intraoperative findings and the postoperative result of this case confirmed that vascular compression of the intermediate nerve was the exclusive cause of paroxysmal otalgia. The presence of ipsilateral hemifacial spasm, combined with preoperative neuroimaging studies, contributed to the diagnosis of intermediate nerve neuralgia. Microvascular decompression should be considered for the management of patients with intermediate nerve neuralgia.

Abstract:There are 16 epsilon-amino groups of lysyl residues which are essential for the activity of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase. These lysyl residues formed a Schiff base with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate which was stabilized by NaBH4 reduction. The stoichiometry of covalently bound pyridoxal 5'-phosphate after NaBH4 reduction was determined spectrophotometrically with a derived molar extinction coefficient of 4800 M-1 cm-1. The incorporation of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate into the protein was accompanied by loss of the carboxylase and oxygenase activities, but the ratio of their activities remained constant. Vmax, but not Km, values were changed by this modification of the amino acid groups. Half of the epsilon-amino groups of lysine appeared to be at the 8 catalytic sites and half at the 8 activator sites for CO2, as indicated by kinetics of reactivation of the enzyme activity during dissociation of the Schiff base between pyridoxal 5'-phosphate and the protein. Reduction with NaB3H4 revealed that all 16 of the lysyl residues were on the large subunit. Ribulose-1,5-bis-phosphate alone protected 16 amino groups from Schiff base formation with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, and the enzyme activity was fully conserved. NaHCO3 increased and MgCl2 lowered slightly the protective effect of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate. Modification of sulfhydryl groups by p-chloromercuribenzoic acid inhibited the enzyme and excluded binding of 8 equivalents of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. Upon removal of the mercuribenzoate groups with excess dithiothreitol, the loss of enzyme activity was exponentially correlated with the binding of 8 mol of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate/mol of enzyme. In contrast to p-chloromercuribenzoic acid, iodoacetamide, which inhibited the catalysis, had no influence on the binding of the 16 pyridoxal 5'-phosphate/mol of enzyme. It is suggested that the CO2 activator site with one epsilon-amino group for binding of CO2 and the catalytic site with one epsilon-amino group of a yet unknown function are located closely together on the large subunits of the enzyme. The results are consistent with a sulfhydryl group as the proton acceptor opposite carbon 3 of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate, and when this sulfhydryl group is blocked by the bulky mercuribenzoate group, but not by the small carboxyamidomethyl group, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate binding is modified.
Three-dimensional MRI of hemifacial spasm with surgical correlation

Abstract:MRI was used to investigate 100 patients with hemifacial spasm, using 3D-FT T2-weighted (CISS) and contrast-enhanced 3D-FT T1-weighted (turbo-FLASH) sequences in all cases. MR angiography was performed in 54 patients, using 3D-MT FISP images. Decompression of the facial nerve through a retromastoid craniotomy was performed in all patients. Hemifacial spasm caused by tumours in the cerebellopontine angle was not included. Vascular contact with the facial nerve root-exit zone or at the internal auditory canal was present in 96 of 100 patients with hemifacial spasm. The vessel responsible was the vertebral artery (VA) in 18 cases, the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) in 23, the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) in 22, the VA and PICA in 24, VA and AICA in 3, PICA and AICA in 1, VA, PICA and AICA in 4, and a vein in 1 case. CISS images showed compressive vascular loops better than contrast-enhanced turbo-FLASH images alone. The sensitivity of MRI was high, since only one false-negative case was found among the 100 patients who underwent surgery.
Hemifacial spasm associated with trigeminal neuralgia secondary to trigeminal vascular compression

Abstract:The coincidence in a patient of Hemifacial Spasm and Trigeminal Neuralgia is not frequent. A case is presented with the objective of showing this association due to the abnormal activation of the Trigemino-Facial Reflex. A 55-year-old woman with an 8-year history of left-sided hemifacial spasm and typical trigeminal pain in the ipsilateral V1 and V2 territory. The physical examination shows spasms in the left hemiface, with reproduction of intense pain upon sensory stimulation of the skin on the forehead and upper dental arch. The MRI showed a vessel in intimate contact with the entrance area of the left trigeminal nerve. A left retrosigmoid approach was performed. First, the entrance area of the trigeminal nerve was accessed, finding a clear vascular conflict, which was isolated with Teflon. Then, the trajectory was changed and the exit zone of the facial nerve was accessed, and no type of vascular conflict was identified. The patient presented complete resolution of the Hemifacial Spasm and the associated trigeminal pain. The analysis of this case allows us to conclude that during microvascular decompression of the Facial Nerve, if frank proximal compression is not evident, the Trigeminofacial structural relationship must be taken into account, making it necessary to explore the Trigeminal Nerve.

Abstract:The present report summarizes preliminary results of a retrospective study of the relationship between childbirth and mental disorder, the frequency of psychiatric symptoms post partum, and possible prognostic and predisposing factors of relevance to predict the course of such symptoms. A 49-item-questionnaire exploring symptoms of mental disease and gynaecological aberrations post partum was mailed to a representative selection of women delivered a t the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Lund. The women investigated were delivered 3, 6, 9 and 12 months before the time of investigation. The sample consisted of 404 women, the answering percentage was 94,4 per cent. The psychiatric items were designed to map out symptoms of slight mental disorders, i.e. neurosis, asthenic reactions and mild affective disorders. As regards the psychiatric items we asked the subjects to state their condition a t the time of exploration in relation to the condition during the last year before pregnancy. The number of mental symptoms was correlated to a number of gynecological variables and background data, the latter obtained from the records of the maternity hospital. The number of psychiatric symptoms post partum was noteworthy high. About 25 per cent of the sample had seven or more symptoms, 20 per cent had 4 to 6, while the rest, about 55 per cent, had no symptoms at all or only a few ones. An interesting feature of the subjects with few mental symptoms was that the number of symptoms in them seemed t o diminish with increasing time from delivery. Release of endogenous GABA from the rat brain: methodological aspects and the effects of catecholamines.

Abstract:The release of endogenous GABA from the striatum, the substantia nigra and the ventral thalamic nucleus was measured in push-pull canula perfusates with high pressure chromatography and fluorimetric detection. The release of GABA per min is dependent on the flow rates, when low perfusion rates were applied. The GABA release was enhanced by K+ (maximal effect at 50 mM). The effects of various drugs added to the perfusion medium was measured. Imipramine, propranolol and other lipophilic bases (10 microM) enhanced the GABA release in the thalamus. Dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA), isoprenaline, clonidine and dibutyryl cyclic AMP decreased the GABA release from the striatum. Haloperidol blocked the effect of DA, but not that of NA. Stimulation of the locus coeruleus decreased GABA output. Destruction of striatal GABA-ergic neurons by kainic acid did not lead to a decreased number of NA-receptors as measured by the formation of cyclic AMP. The results indicate that both catecholamines influence GABA release and that DA and NA act at different receptors. The beta responses are mediated by beta-adrenoceptors that are not confined to striatal GABA neurons.
[Microvascular decompression in hemifacial spasm: 13 cases report and review of the literature]

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the results of 13 patients with facial hemispasm, treated with microvascular decompression. Methods: Between June 2005 and May 2014, 13 patients with facial hemispasm were operated, underwent microvascular decompression. The age, sex, duration of symptoms before surgery, and surgical finds, were all evaluated. In addition, postoperative results were also analyzed. Results: Seven patients were women and 6 were men. The average age of the patients was 53 years. The average time between onset of symptoms and surgery ranged from 3 to 9 years. In all cases the facial hemispasm was typical, one with concomitant trigeminal neuralgia, observed in all neurovascular compression intraoperative. In decreasing order of frequency, the cause of compression was anterior inferior cerebellar artery, posterior inferior cerebellar artery, dolicomega basilar artery and dolicomega vertebral artery. The average time of postoperative follow-up after the surgery was 24 months. Complete relief from spasm occurred in 62%; 30% disappearance after 3 weeks-2 months (8% partial) and in 8% had no improvement. Regarding postoperative complications: 3 patients had facial paresis II-III in House-Brackman scale and 1 patient presented CSF leak. None of the patients in the serie had hearing loss or deafness. Conclusion: The microvascular decompression for facial hemispasm is a safe an effective procedure, which allows complete resolution of the disease in most cases.
Fully endoscopic microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm: a clinical study and analysis

Abstract:Fully endoscopic microvascular decompression (MVD) of the facial nerve is the main surgical treatment for hemifacial spasm. However, the technique presents distinct surgical challenges. We retrospectively analyzed prior cases to consolidate surgical insights and assess clinical outcomes. Clinical data from 16 patients with facial nerve spasms treated at the Department of Neurosurgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College, between August 2020 and July 2023, were retrospectively examined. Preoperatively, all patients underwent magnetic resonance angiography to detect any offending blood vessels; ascertain the relationship between offending vessels, facial nerves, and the brainstem; and detect any cerebellopontine angle lesions. Surgery involved endoscopic MVD of the facial nerve using a mini Sigmoid sinus posterior approach. Various operative nuances were summarized and analyzed, and clinical efficacy, including postoperative complications and the extent of relief from facial paralysis, was evaluated. Fully endoscopic MVD was completed in all patients, with the offending vessels identified and adequately padded during surgery. The offending vessels were anterior inferior cerebellar artery in 12 cases (75%), vertebral artery in 3 cases (18.75%), and posterior inferior cerebellar artery in 1 case (6.25%). Intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring revealed that the lateral spread response of the facial nerve vanished in 15 cases and remained unchanged in 1 case. Postoperative facial spasms were promptly alleviated in 15 cases (93.75%) and delayed in 1 case (6.25%). Two cases of postoperative complications were recorded-one intracranial infection and one case of tinnitus-both were resolved or mitigated with treatment. All patients were subject to follow-up, with no instances of recurrence or mortality. Fully endoscopic MVD of the facial nerve is safe and effective. Proficiency in endoscopy and surgical skills are vital for performing this procedure.
