Abstract:Purpose: In this study, exercise interventions were evaluated for their effects on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) and quality of life (QoL) among cancer patients. Design: A meta-analysis was performed. Methods: We systematically searched the PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PsycINFO, and CINAHL databases, and gray literature sources including the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library and Google Scholar. This study only included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining how exercise interventions affect CRF and QoL among cancer patients. Based on the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias Assessment Tool, version 2 (RoB 2) and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach, the methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated. In addition, standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied to assess the intervention effect with respect to CRF and QoL. Data analysis was performed using Review Manager (version 5.4). Results: There were a total of 1573 participants in the 28 included articles. According to the meta-analysis, CRF (SMD = -0.35, 95% CI: -0.63 to -0.07, p = 0.01) and QoL (SMD = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.20 to 0.53, p < 0.01) were positively affected by exercise interventions. Subgroup analyses revealed considerable improvements in CRF (SMD = -0.54, 95% CI: -1.00 to -0.09, p = 0.02) and QoL (SMD = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.16 to 0.59, p < 0.01) from aerobic exercise. An intervention duration less than 12 weeks had a better effect on CRF (SMD = -0.80, 95% CI: -1.43 to -0.17, p = 0.01) and QoL (SMD = 0.53, 95% CI: 0.21 to 0.85, p < 0.01), and three times per week was the most effective frequency in improving QoL (SMD = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.28 to 1.11, p < 0.01). Exercise intervention was more successful in improving CRF (SMD = -0.66, 95% CI: -1.10 to -0.21, p < 0.01) and QoL (SMD=-0.50, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.78, p < 0.01) in female cancer patients. Sensitivity analyses showed that the pooled outcomes were reliable and stable. Conclusion: Exercise interventions are a workable approach to improve CRF and QoL among cancer patients. An aerobic exercise intervention of less than 12 weeks might be most effective in improving CRF and QoL, and three times per week might be the most appropriate frequency. Exercise might have a more positive effect on improving CRF and QoL in female cancer patients. Additionally, a larger number of high-quality RCTs should be conducted to further confirm the efficacy of exercise interventions on CRF and QoL among cancer patients. Effects of Exercise on Cancer-Related Fatigue in Breast Cancer Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Abstract:The primary objective of this study was to assess the influence of exercise interventions on cancer-related fatigue (CRF), specifically in breast cancer patients, with the ultimate goal of establishing an optimal exercise prescription for breast cancer patients. A comprehensive search was undertaken across multiple databases, including Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus, covering data published up to 1 September 2023. A meta-analysis was conducted to calculate the standardized mean difference (SMD) along with its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI), thereby quantifying the effectiveness of exercise in alleviating CRF in the breast cancer patient population. Twenty-six studies met the inclusion criteria. Aerobic exercise (SMD, -0.17, p = 0.02), resistance exercise (SMD, -0.37, p = 0.0009), and combined exercise (SMD, -0.53, p < 0.0001) significantly improved CRF in breast cancer patients. In addition, exercise intervention conducted ≥3 times per week (SMD, -0.47, p = 0.0001) for >60 min per session (SMD, -0.63, p < 0.0001) and ≥180 min per week (SMD, -0.79, p < 0.0001) had greater effects on improving CRF in breast cancer patients, especially middle-aged patients (SMD, -0.42, p < 0.0001). Exercise is an effective approach to improving CRF in breast cancer patients. When devising an exercise program, the primary consideration should be the incorporation of combined exercise as the principal intervention. This entails ensuring that participants engage in the program at least three times weekly, with each session lasting for more than 60 min. The ultimate aim is to achieve a total weekly exercise duration of 180 min by progressively increasing the frequency of exercise sessions.

Abstract:Background: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is common among patients with cancer. Various interventions have been reported to reduce fatigue, and some evidence suggests that nurse-led interventions may be effective in the management of CRF. A systematic review was conducted to assess the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions for CRF in patients with cancer and survivors. Objective: The aim of this study was to review and appraise the evidence for the effectiveness of different types of nurse-led interventions on fatigue in patients with cancer and survivors. Methods: Electronic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect were searched to identify studies published from January 2013 to October 2023. The studies that described nurse-led interventions in patients with cancer or survivors regardless of treatment duration, modes of intervention delivery, and any based intervention were included. The studies were excluded if no fatigue was an outcome measure. Results: Twelve studies from 2013 to 2023 were included and eligible for the review. Nine studies obtained a Jadad score of 3 or more, indicating high quality for the quality assessment. Eleven of the included studies reported a significant effect of the nurse-led interventions in reducing fatigue in patients with cancer or survivors. Conclusions: Nurse-led interventions that focus on multidisciplinary, exercise, psychological, and behavioral approaches appear promising in the management of CRF. More research is needed in order to determine the most acceptable forms of intervention. Implications for practice: The development of evidence-based interventions for managing CRF is significant to nursing practice.
Exercise for breast cancer survival: the effect on cancer risk and cancer-related fatigue (CRF)

Abstract:To date, all epidemiological research in this area has focused on the relationship between physical activity level and the risk of breast cancer in healthy women, or more recently, those who have recovered from the disease. Most of this research highlights the fact that those women who are physically active are at a reduced risk of the disease. Although physical activity is similar to exercise, it lacks the specificity of a prescribed exercise training program. Consequently, such research can only be viewed as a promising indicator of the beneficial effect that regular exercise may have for breast cancer survivors. Furthermore, due to the nature of such research, there has been a failure to provide specific evidence concerning the most suitable modality, duration, intensity, and frequency of training for risk reduction in breast cancer survivors. Thus, evidence aiding the correct prescription of exercise for this population has been lacking. More promising evidence is provided by randomized controlled trials, which examine the effect of exercise on specific risk factors and provide convincing scientific rationale for the use of exercise among breast cancer survivors. These studies not only provide understanding of the physiological mechanisms by which exercise can be effective at aiding a reduction in breast cancer risk, but also allow conclusions on the correct prescription to be drawn. Additionally, exercise has proven to be effective in combating cancer-related fatigue (CRF), significantly improving both quality of life outcomes (QOL) and physiological capacity in women who have survived breast cancer. In order to promote a wider understanding of the beneficial effect that exercise holds for this population regarding reduction of breast cancer risk and CRF, this review discusses this research, making conclusions regarding the necessary training prescription to elicit such benefits.

Abstract:Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a prevalent and debilitating side effect of cancer treatment that can persist for years posttreatment, significantly impacting patients' quality of life. Given the limited efficacy of pharmacological treatments, nonpharmacological interventions are gaining attention as effective management strategies for CRF. This review aims to provide an overview of the most common nonpharmacological interventions for CRF management, including exercise therapies, psychosocial interventions, sensory art therapy, light therapy, nutritional management, traditional Chinese medicine therapies, sleep management, combination therapy, and health education. By synthesizing the findings of high-quality literature, this review presents the definition of each therapy, along with their advantages and disadvantages in treating patients with CRF. Additionally, it addresses the role of oncology nurses in the nonpharmacological management of CRF. In summary, this review aims to inform oncology nurses about the prevalent nonpharmacological interventions for CRF and explore their clinical application to facilitate the development of effective CRF management strategies in clinical practice.
Effects of aerobic exercise on cancer-related fatigue: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Abstract:Background: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most commonly reported and most distressing symptom in cancer patients. Currently, there are no effective strategies for managing this condition. Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of aerobic exercise on CRF with the standard of care. Methods: A systematic search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was performed using the Cochrane Library, JBI Library, Embase, MEDLINE, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine (CBM), and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The risk of bias was critically evaluated, and data were independently extracted by two reviewers. All of the analyses were performed using Review Manager 5. Results: A total of 26 qualified studies that included 2830 participants (aerobic exercise, 1426; control, 1404) were included in the meta-analysis. Cancer patients who completed adjuvant therapy in the aerobic exercise group reported reduced CRF levels relative to patients undergoing the standard of care. Aerobic exercise had a moderate effect on CRF for patients not currently undergoing anticancer treatment. Supervised aerobic exercise, exercise for 20–30 min/session, or exercise three times/week had a small effect on CRF. Exercise for 50 min/session or exercise two sessions/week had a significant effect on patient CRF, whereas 8 weeks of exercise had a moderate effect. Conclusions: Aerobic exercise is effective for the management of CRF, especially for patients who have completed adjuvant therapy. Implications for practice: Cancer patients can make more informed choices regarding their cancer-related fatigue management based on the best available evidence.

Abstract:Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is common and can be distressing for some survivors. There is increasing interest in measuring levels of CRF, highlighting its impact on quality of life. This review describes the nature and scope of evidence relating to interventions for CRF. Scoping review methodology was used to identify studies, extract data, collate and summarise results. Data were collated according to cancer tumour streams, stage of illness and the types of trial interventions. A total of 447 trials and 37 systematic reviews met the inclusion criteria. Nine papers reported longitudinal results. Populations studied were predominantly of mixed cancer diagnoses and breast cancer. The most frequent interventions were exercise, pharmacological, psycho-education and mind-body interventions. Fatigue was identified as a primary outcome measure (OM) in 58% of studies, with 58 different fatigue measures reported. Emerging evidence exists for the effectiveness of fatigue interventions for some cancer types. More research on interventions with participants with the same cancer type and illness phase is needed. Measurement of severity and impact of CRF using fewer, robust OMs will permit comparisons across studies.

Abstract:Increased cancer survivorship means more people are living with cancer-related fatigue (CRF), which is associated with activity performance limitations, restricted participation in meaningful life roles, and reduced quality of life. To identify whether non-pharmacological interventions that are effective in minimizing CRF also have an impact on everyday activity performance and participation outcomes for adult cancer survivors. This is a systematic review with narrative synthesis. Eight databases were searched (Medline, CINAHL, PsychINFO, EMBASE, Scopus, OT Seeker, CENTRAL, Cochrane SR database), from 2000 to 2020 for randomized controlled trials of effective non-pharmacological CRF interventions in adult cancer survivors with fatigue. A total of 5,762 studies were identified of which 29 studies were reviewed. In 28 studies, quality of life was investigated as a primary or secondary outcome, where concepts of participation or activity performance were used. Review findings indicate there is insufficient evidence to determine whether activity performance and participation is affected by CRF interventions.
The cancer rehabilitation journey: barriers to and facilitators of exercise among patients with cancer-related fatigue

Abstract:Background: Despite the evidence to support exercise as an effective management strategy for patients with cancer-related fatigue (CRF), many of the general cancer population are sedentary. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the barriers to and facilitators of exercise among a mixed sample of patients with CRF. Design: An exploratory, descriptive, qualitative design was used. Methods: Purposive sampling methods were used to recruit patients with CRF who were representative of the cancer trajectory, that is, survivors of cancer and patients in palliative care who were recently diagnosed and undergoing treatment. Focus group discussions were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using a grounded theory approach. Lower-level concepts were identified and ordered into subcategories. Related subcategories then were grouped to form the main categories, which were linked to the core category. Results: Five focus groups were conducted with 26 participants. Within the core category of the cancer rehabilitation journey were 3 main categories: (1) exercise barriers, (2) exercise facilitators, and (3) motivators of exercise. Exercise barriers were mainly related to treatment side effects, particularly fatigue. Fatigue was associated with additional barriers such as physical deconditioning, social isolation, and the difficulty of making exercise a routine. Environmental factors and the timing of exercise initiation also were barriers. Exercise facilitators included an exercise program being group-based, supervised, individually tailored, and gradually progressed. Exercise motivators were related to perceived exercise benefits. Conclusions: Individuals with CRF have numerous barriers to exercise, both during and following treatment. The exercise facilitators identified in this study provide solutions to these barriers and may assist with the uptake and maintenance of exercise programs. These findings will aid physical therapists in designing appropriate exercise programs for patients with CRF.
Does resistance training ameliorate cancer-related fatigue in cancer survivors? A systematic review with meta-analysis

Abstract:Purpose: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is unrelenting. As neither rest nor sleep ameliorates cognitive, emotional, and physical symptoms, quality of life is diminished. This study examines resistance training (RT) effectiveness on CRF in cancer survivors. The secondary aims were to identify the dose-response relationship of RT frequency, intensity, and volume on CRF in different cancer survivor populations. Materials and methods: Systematic searches via numerous databases for RCTs were performed in June 2022. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROM), were analysed, pre-to-post intervention, using a random-effects model. The Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale informed methodological quality assessment. Results: Eight studies were included (cancer survivors: breast (BCS) = 5; endometrial (ECS) = 1; prostate (PCS) = 2). Overall, RT interventions ≥ 6 weeks elicited large significant reductions in CRF for FACIT-F (SMD = 0.932, p = <0.001) and moderate significant reductions in CRF for PFS-R (SMD = -0.622, p = 0.004). Conclusion: Main findings indicate that RT ameliorates CRF, especially in BCS; however, individualised approaches should be advocated. Supervised training elicited the greatest positive outcomes, thus should be a pivotal part of the cancer rehabilitation pathway. Future studies should be adequately powered, undertake discrete analyses of different cancer types, and investigate chronic RT effects.
Effect of exercise for patients with advanced lung cancer and cancer-related fatigue: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Background Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a significant burden for patients with advanced lung cancer. While exercise is recommended for managing CRF during pre- and active treatment phases, evidence supporting its efficacy in advanced stage remains limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to quantify the effects of exercise on CRF and its common complications in patients with advanced lung cancer. Methods A systematic search of 4 databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science) was conducted up to July 10, 2024 to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Studies were selected based on predefined eligibility criteria, including adult patients with advanced lung cancer reporting fatigue as an outcome. Study selection followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, and the risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool (RoB 2.0). The quality of evidence was evaluated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. Random- or fixed-effects models were used for meta-analyses based on heterogeneity levels. Results Eight RCTs involving 749 patients were included. Meta-analysis revealed that exercise significantly improved CRF in patients with advanced lung cancer (standardized mean difference (SMD) = –0.33; 95% confidence interval (95%CI): –0.54 to –0.12); p = 0.00; I 2 = 0.00%). Subgroup analysis showed greater efficacy in patients aged ≤60 years ( p = 0.028), those engaging in traditional Chinese exercise ( p = 0.003), and interventions lasting fewer than 12 weeks ( p = 0.017). Exercise also significantly improved quality of life (SMD = 0.29; 95%CI: 0.02–0.55; p = 0.04; I 2 = 0.00%) and reduced dyspnea (SMD = –0.43; 95%CI: –0.71 to –0.16; p = 0.00; I 2 = 0.00%). No significant effects were observed on sleep quality, anxiety, or depression. The risk of bias across studies was moderate, and the quality of evidence, as evaluated by GRADE, was rated as low due to study limitations. Adverse events were minimal, with only one mild, exercise-related event reported. Conclusion Exercise significantly alleviates CRF in patients with advanced lung cancer, improves certain complications, and enhances quality of life. The intervention's effectiveness varies by age, type of exercise, and duration. Further high-quality studies are needed to validate these findings.

Effect of Exercise on Cancer Related Fatigue: an Overview of Systematic Review

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficiency and safety of exercise interventions on cancer related fatigue. Methods Cochrane Library, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, EMbase, CINAHL, Chinese Journal Full- text Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Wanfang Databse were searched from the inception to November 2014 to screen the systematic review and Meta-analysis conforming to the inclusion criteria. Two authors independently appraised their methodological qualities with Overview Quality Assessment Questionnaire (OQAQ), and analyzed the data using descriptive analysis. The primary outcome included the scaling of cancer related fatigue, the secondary outcome included adherence to exercise intervention and the incidence of adverse events. Results Fourteen systematic review/Meta-analysis were identified, twelve of them had a high methodological quality (Scoring 5-7). Six systematic review/Meta-analysis found that aerobic exercise could effectively alleviate cancer related fatigue, especially for breast cancer patients;seven articles showed that exercise could modulate cancer related fatigue of patients under active treatments;seven articles reported the compliance to the exercise intervention, four articles reported adverse events occurring during the intervention, very few of them resulted directly from the exercise intervention. Conclusions Exercise intervention can modulate cancer related fatigue with good safety.

Abstract:In order to assess the true incidence of haemostatic disorders in cirrhotic gastro-intestinal haemorrhage, a comparative prospective study of primary haemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis was carried out in 37 patients distributed into two groups: cirrhotics with gastro-oesophageal varices that had never bled (Group A = 22), and cirrhotics who had had an intestinal bleed from "ruptured" gastro-oesophageal varices (Group B = 15). Combination of thrombocytopenia (less than 100 10(9)/l) and a bleeding time greater than 8 mn was more frequent in Group B (80%) than in Group A (45%) (p = less than 0.05). On the other hand, no significant difference between the two groups was found in the activated cephalin time, thrombin time, prothrombin complex factors (II, V, VII-X), fibrinogen, antithrombin III, Factor VIII complex factors, FDP levels or plasminogen. In conclusion, these results suggest that disorders of primary haemostasis may be involved in bleeding from gastro-intestinal varices in cirrhosis. However, coagulation disorders and anomalies of fibrinolysis would not seem to play a determining role.

Abstract:Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) significantly interferes with usual functioning because of the distressing sense of physical, emotional, and cognitive exhaustion. Assessment of CRF is important and should be performed during the initial cancer diagnosis, throughout cancer treatment, and after treatment using a fatigue scoring scale (mild-severe). The general approach to CRF management applies to cancer survivors at all fatigue levels and includes education, counseling, and other strategies. Nonpharmacologic interventions include psychosocial interventions, exercise, yoga, physically based therapy, dietary management, and sleep therapy. Pharmacologic interventions include psychostimulants. Antidepressants may also benefit when CRF is accompanied by depression.

Selection was made using inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 77 articles were included to compare the effects of 12 interventions on patients with breast cancer. Results: Seventy-seven studies with 12 various interventions were examined. The network findings indicated that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) (SMD, -1.56; 95%CI, -3.08~-0.04), Chinese traditional exercises (CTE) (SMD, -0.85; 95%CI, -1.34~-0.36), aerobic exercise (AE) (SMD, -0.77; 95%CI, -1.09~-0.45), multimodal exercise (ME) (SMD, -0.75; 95%CI, -1.26~-0.25), music interventions (MI) (SMD, -0.74; 95%CI, -1.45~-0.03), and yoga (YG) (SMD, -0.44; 95%CI, -0.83 to -0.06) can reduce CRF more than the control group (CG). For relaxation exercises (RE) (MD, -6.69; 95%CI, -9.81~-3.57), MI (MD, -5.45; 95%CI, -7.98~-2.92), AE (MD, -4.34; 95%CI, -5.90~-2.78), ME (MD, -3.47; 95%CI, -4.95~-1.99), YG (MD, -2.07; 95%CI, -3.56~-0.57), and mindfulness training (MD, -1.68; 95%CI, -2.91~-0.46), PSQI improvement was superior to CG. In addition, for CTE (MD, 11.39; 95%CI, 4.11-18.66), YG (MD, 11.28; 95%CI, 1.63-20.93), and AE (MD, 9.34; 95%CI, 0.26~18.42), Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast improvement was superior to CG. Conclusion: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most effective measure for alleviating CRF in patients with breast cancer and Relaxation exercises (RE) is the most effective measure for improving sleep quality. In addition, Chinese traditional exercises (CTE) is the best measure for enhancing quality of life. Additional randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are expected to further investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of these interventions. Abstract:PurposeCancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common and distressing symptom of cancer that may persist for years following treatment completion. However, little is known about the pathophysiology of CRF. Using a comprehensive group of gold-standard physiological and psychosocial assessments, this study aimed to identify correlates of CRF in a heterogenous group of cancer survivors.MethodsUsing a cross-sectional design to determine the physiological and psychosocial correlates of CRF, ninety-three cancer survivors (51 fatigued, 42 non-fatigued) completed assessments of performance fatigability (i.e. the decline in muscle strength during cycling), cardiopulmonary exercise testing, venous blood samples for whole blood cell count and inflammatory markers and body composition. Participants also completed questionnaires measuring demographic, treatment-related, and psychosocial variables.ResultsPerformance fatigability, time-to-task-failure, peak oxygen uptake (V̇O2peak), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), body fat percentage, and lean mass index were associated with CRF severity. Performance fatigability, V̇O2peak, TNF-α, and age explained 35% of the variance in CRF severity. Those with clinically-relevant CRF reported more pain, more depressive symptoms, less perceived social support, and were less physically active than non-fatigued cancer survivors.ConclusionsThe present study utilised a comprehensive group of gold-standard physiological and psychosocial assessments and the results give potential insight into the mechanisms underpinning the association between physical inactivity, physical deconditioning and CRF.Implications for Cancer SurvivorsGiven the associations between CRF and both physiological and psychosocial measures, this study identifies targets that can be measured by rehabilitation professionals and used to guide tailored interventions to reduce fatigue.

Abstract:Research Objectives Investigate the impact of personalized eHealth physical and occupational therapy on quality of life (QOL) in individuals with cancer-related fatigue (CRF). Design One-way repeated measure. Setting Online. Participants 18-70 years old, diagnosed with cancer ≥ 5 years, received/receiving chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, fatigue ≥4 on 0-10 scale using the One-item Fatigue Scale, access to mobile device or computer. Those with metastatic cancer, chronic fatigue, were non-English speaking, or unable to follow instructions, were excluded. Interventions Participants completed an 8-week interdisciplinary intervention: moderate exercise (aerobic and strengthening) based on the results of the 30-second sit to stand test and 6-Minute Walk test (3x per week asynchronously), Four interactive educational modules (What is CRF? Rest and Relaxation, Nutrition and Exercise), and weekly Zoom® PT exercise consultation and OT-Problem-Solving sessions focused on the impaired occupations identified within the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. Main Outcome Measures Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F). Results Thirteen individuals, mean age 47 (29-67) with a variety of cancers and stages participated (85% completed all visits). Participants had moderate baseline fatigue (6/10); 85% had chemotherapy, 85% radiation therapy, and 77% underwent surgical treatment for cancer. FACT-G scores significantly increased (p < 0.001) from 66.08 (SD 14.26) to 80.06 (SD 13.94) with an effect size of 1.53 (CI .96-2.8). FACIT Fatigue subscale scores significantly increased (p < 0.01) from 24.92 (SD 7.59) to 36.62 (SD 7.19) with an effect size is 1.78 (CI .90-2.64). The change in both scales exceeded the minimally important difference of 8 points and 3 points, respectively. Conclusions Use of a personalized eHealth PT and OT intervention aimed at improving QOL in those with CRF resulted in improvement measured by the FACT-G and FACIT-F. Use of eHealth appears to be an effective method to deliver exercise, education, and personalized problem-solving intervention in this population with significant improvements in QOL. Limitations include a small sample size in this ongoing study as well as variability of cancer diagnoses, making broad generalization difficult. Author(s) Disclosures Nothing to disclose.

Abstract:The Global Navigation Satellite system (GNSS) is experiencing an exponential growth of the consumer segment demand. Many applications emerged after the E-911/E-112 regulations. Positioning needs to be carried out in all the environments covered by the wireless communication services, including the most constraining areas such as obstructed indoor environments. Different techniques have emerged already in the market claiming some navigation capabilities indoors. However, they usually have an accuracy of some tens of meters, at best. In some cases, with the deployment of pseudolites, indoor navigation shows decent performance, but there is still a question of whether GPS has a ”good enough” signal structure for such applications in the first place. In this paper, measurement-based modeling results with the purpose of giving further insight on the real satellite-to-indoor channel characteristics are described.
