Abstract:In order to develop methods to further enhance oil recovery after water flooding in low permeability reservoirs by improving oil displacement efficiency, the displacement mechanism of residual oil was studied by the application of different pertinent measures. For in-depth investigation of oil displacement and variations in residual oil saturation, a large number of visual glass model displacement experiments were performed with different methods, such as changing the displacement direction, cyclic water flooding, displacement pressure difference variation and polymer flooding. In this paper, the models were divided into three (low, medium and high) permeability levels, and the residual oil after water flooding was categorized in five different types: cluster, oil film, oil drop, columnar and blind end residual oil. The experimental results showed that cluster residual oil accounted for the largest proportion after water flooding. In addition, with the increase in model permeability, cluster residual oil saturation increased and other types of residual oil saturations decreased. Compared to other methods, polymer flooding showed maximum displacement efficiency for the same displacement pressure and permeability model. The procedure was then followed by changing the displacement direction, cyclic water flooding and changing the displacement pressure difference. The different residual oil types can be activated by different methods, for example, cluster and columnar residual oil by changing the displacement direction, cluster and columnar residual oil by cyclic water flooding, cluster and oil drop residual oil by increasing displacement pressure difference. Moreover, all of the above mentioned five (05) types of residual oil can be activated by polymer flooding.

The effects of exercise training on the pharmacokinetics of digoxin.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Studies have shown that digoxin binds to the working muscles during an acute bout of exercise, with a concomitant decrease in serum digoxin concentration. This study investigated the effects of 16 weeks of endurance exercise training on the pharmacokinetics of digoxin in old and young adults. METHODS Twelve subjects, aged 68.5 +/- 4.5 years, and six subjects, aged 30.3 +/- 3.8 years, completed the study. All subjects were healthy, sedentary, and taking no cardiovascular medications. After initial testing and maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) measurements, subjects were hospitalized for 28 hours for renal function testing and digoxin clearance studies and then randomly assigned to an exercise (EG) or control (CG) group. The EG completed 16 weeks (three 1-hour bouts/week) of aerobic training at 75% to 85% of maximum capacity. The CG did not exercise. All tests were repeated at the end of the 16-week study period. RESULTS In the older EG subjects, VO2max increased by 3.4 ml/kg/min, or approximately 16% (P = 0.0002). VO2max increased in the younger EG subjects by 1.1 ml/kg/min, but the increase was not significant (P > 0.05). There were no significant changes in body composition, renal function, or time of onset, peak concentration, or elimination phase half-life of digoxin in either the old or young exercise or control groups (P > 0.05 for all variables). CONCLUSION Although 16 weeks of endurance exercise training improves cardiorespiratory fitness, the pharmacokinetics of digoxin are neither improved nor adversely affected in healthy old and young adults.

Abstract:Shale reservoirs represent a significant untapped source of recoverable oil, and even a slight increase in recovery can yield substantial benefits. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the development of shale reservoirs due to their vast potential. Shale reservoirs are characterized by their intricate pore structures, ultra-low porosity, and extremely low permeability. Consequently, fluid flow within shale formations is highly complex, and the distribution of shale oil is diverse. There is an urgent need to conduct research into the flow behavior of shale reservoirs and the modes of crude oil occurrence within them, in order to support effective shale oil extraction in the field. In this work, we established a MCMP-MRT-LBM model considering nano-scale confinement effects such as slip and adsorption. The model is employed to simulate single pore channels and blind-end pores to investigate the distinct mechanisms involved in water flooding, CO2 immiscible flooding, and CO2 miscible flooding. Subsequently, the research explores the fluid flow characteristics associated with these three development methods within porous media, as well as the distribution of remaining oil. Then we compared the oil displacement efficiency, swept volume, actual liquid injection volume and displacement front position of the three fluids in porous media. The results reveal that water flooding exhibits superior displacement performance in single pore channels, while CO2 miscible flooding proves to be the most effective method for exploiting oil in blind-end pores. In porous media, CO2 miscible flooding successfully mitigates fingering phenomena and efficiently recovers crude oil located at blind-end and corner regions of the pores. The recovery efficiency achieved through CO2 miscible flooding is approximately 30% higher than that of water flooding and about 10% greater than CO2 immiscible flooding.

Abstract:Current clastic reservoirs with burial depth of more than 5000 m are important energy sources. And microscopic initiation mechanism of residual oil after water flooding has been regarded as the key to improving oil recovery by gas flooding. In this study, an investigation was conducted in the occurrence states and distribution of residual oil of deep-buried reservoirs from microscopic pore scale. We innovatively designed a microscopic visualization experimental equipment for the first time, which broke through the limitations of visualization accuracy, temperature and pressure of the conventional experimental devices. Microscopic visualization experiments of gas injection after waterflooding at 115 °C and 55 MPa were carried out. According to the permeability and pore-throat 0 structure characteristics of deep-buried clastic reservoir, a two-dimensional glass etching micromodel was designed and fabricated. Meanwhile, the occurrence state and formation mechanism of multi-type residual oil were quantitatively characterized by image processing technology. The results showed that there were five kinds of residual oil which were corner, droplet, membranous, columnar and cluster after water flooding. In addition, it was generally concentrated in the fine pore-throats with greater resistance perpendicular to the main stream line. Two mechanisms, immiscible flooding and miscible flooding, were also found in N2 flooding. Moreover, the injected gas carried, squeezed and dispersed the continuous clusters of residual oil, transforming them into dispersive shapes such as corner and membranous. And a certain amount of microscopic residual oil after water flooding was effectively mobilized by removing the water locking effect. The oil recovery could be improved by 11.49% in low-permeability zone, which was the highest, since the continuous cluster residual oil was decreased significantly. Membranous, columnar and cluster residual oil were well mobilized in the medium-permeability zone, and oil recovery was increased by 8.31%. In comparison, the oil recovery in high-permeability zone was only increased by 2.53%, and there was no cluster oil. Our study highlights the migration characteristic and initiation mechanism of residual oil in porous media under N2 injection after waterflooding from the perspective of microscopic visualization, which may help to promote the development of deep-buried clastic reservoirs.

Abstract:After the development of high-porosity, high-permeability, medium-high-viscosity oil reservoirs enters the high-water-cut stage, the remaining oil is highly dispersed on the microscopic scale, which leads to a change in the oil-water-flow law. If the enrichment and mobilization laws of the microscopic remaining oil cannot be truly and objectively described, it will ultimately affect the production of oil fields. At present, few studies have directly revealed the microscopic water flooding mechanism of high-porosity, high-permeability, medium-high-viscosity oil reservoirs and the main controlling factors affecting the formation of remaining oil. Starting with micro-physical simulation, this study explores the water flooding mechanism on the microscale, the type of remaining oil and its evolution law, and analyzes the main controlling factors of different types of remaining oil so as to propose effective adjustment and development plans for different types of remaining oil. It is found that this type of reservoir has a serious jet filtration phenomenon in the early stages of water flooding and is accompanied by the penetration of injected water, detouring flow, pore wall pressing flow, the stripping effect, and the blocking effect of the rock skeleton. The remaining oil is divided into five types: contiguous flake shape, porous shape, membrane shape, striped shape, and drip shape. Among them, the transformation of flake-shape and porous-shape remaining oil is greatly affected by the viscosity of crude oil. The decrease effect of crude oil viscosity on contiguous residual oil was as high as 33.7%, and the contiguous residual oil was mainly transformed into porous residual oil. The development of membrane-shape, striped-shape, and drip-shape remaining oil is more affected by water injection intensity. The decrease in water injection intensity on membrane residual oil was as high as 33.3%, and the membrane residual oil shifted to striped and drip residual oil. This paper classifies remaining oil on the microscopic scale and clarifies the microscopic water flooding mechanism, microscopic remaining oil evolution rules, and the main controlling factors of different types of remaining oil in high-porosity, high-permeability, medium-high-viscosity oil reservoirs.

Abstract:The water drive reservoir in Shengli Oilfield has entered a stage of ultra-high water cut development, forming an advantageous flow channel for the water drive, resulting in the inefficient and ineffective circulation of injected water. Therefore, the distribution characteristics of water drive flow channels and their controlled residual oil in ultra-high water cut reservoirs are of great significance for treating water drive dominant flow channels and utilizing discontinuous residual oil. Through microscopic physical simulation of water flooding, color mixing recognition and image analysis technology were used to visualize the evolution characteristics of water flooding seepage channels and their changes during the control process. Research has shown that during the ultra-high water content period, the shrinkage of the water drive seepage channel forms a dominant seepage channel, forming a "seepage barrier" at the boundary of the dominant seepage channel, and dividing the affected area into the water drive dominant seepage zone and the seepage stagnation zone. The advantage of water flooding is that the oil displacement efficiency in the permeable zone is as high as 80.5%, and the remaining oil is highly dispersed. The water phase is almost a single-phase flow, revealing the reason for high water consumption in this stage. The remaining oil outside the affected area and within the stagnant flow zone accounts for 89.8% of the remaining oil, which has the potential to further improve oil recovery in the later stage of ultra-high water cut. For the first time, the redundancy index was proposed to quantitatively evaluate the control effect of liquid extraction and liquid flow direction on the dominant flow channels in water flooding. Experimental data showed that both liquid extraction and liquid flow direction can regulate the dominant flow channels in water flooding and improve oil recovery under certain conditions. Microscopic physical simulation experiments were conducted through the transformation of well network form in the later stage of ultra-high water content, which showed that the synergistic effect of liquid extraction and liquid flow direction can significantly improve the oil recovery effect, with an oil recovery rate of 68.02%, deepening the understanding of improving oil recovery rate in the later stage of ultra-high water content.

Abstract:In order to explore the development methods suitable for heterogeneous low permeability reservoirs and study the distribution characteristics of residual oil, photoetched glass and artificial core models with three permeability ratios of 1, 6, and 9 were prepared in this research. Three displacement schemes including polymeric surfactant flooding, polymeric surfactant with binary flooding, and binary flooding were designed at the same expenses to obtain the displacement mechanism of various residual oil saturations. The results show that the best displacement efficiency can be achieved by polymeric surfactant flooding, followed by polymeric surfactant with binary flooding, and binary flooding for the models with the same permeability ratio. Binary flooding mainly activates cluster and oil drop residual oils, polymeric surfactant with binary flooding mainly activates cluster, oil film, and column residual oils, whereas polymeric surfactant flooding mainly activates cluster, oil drop, and column residual oils. In addition, with the increase of the model permeability ratio, the recovery ratio of water flooding decreases, whereas the enhanced oil recovery and the variations in residual oil saturation gradually increase after carrying out different displacement measures. The viscoelastic and shearing effects of the polymeric surfactant flooding system can better displace the residual oil, assisting in the further development of heterogeneous low permeability reservoirs.

Abstract:Since different meditation methods may activate different regions in brain. In this study we chose a basic meditation type that just practiced the breath with the phrase that contained nine words, and the first word was matched with inhaling and following the next with exhaling alternately during the meditation period. Blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) based fMRI were used to examine the brain functions. Experiments showed brain activation areas on the region of thalamus, anterior cingulate, posterior cingulate, middle temporal gyrus, as well as putamen and other activations. It displayed that meditation practice concerned with cognitive functions, however, hypothalamus could be activated during meditation practice, and that might be related with endocrine secretion. But it requires further researches combined BOLD-and CBF-based fMRI technique and physiological signal detection simultaneously to explore the mechanism of meditation.
Molecular insight into oil displacement by CO2 flooding in water-cut dead-end nanopores

Abstract:Understanding the mechanisms underlying residual oil displacement by CO2 flooding is essential for CO2-enhanced oil recovery. This study utilizes molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the displacement of residual oil by CO2 flooding in dead-end nanopores, focusing specifically on the water-blocking effect. The findings reveal that oil displacement does not commence until the water film is breached. The dissolution of CO2 molecules in water and the hydrogen bond interactions between water and rock are the primary factors that disrupt the hydrogen bond network among the water molecules, facilitating the breakthrough of the water film. Additionally, the displacement process can be delineated into four distinct stages - encompassing water film rupture, oil swelling, massive oil displacement, and displacement completion - as evidenced by the oil recovery-displacement time curves. Moreover, a cutting-edge oil recovery-displacement time model precisely quantifies crucial stages in the displacement process. For example, when t < δ, trapped oil is impeded by the water film, while when t > δ + 3τ, displacement culminates successfully. Altogether, this research bolsters comprehension of residual oil displacement in the presence of water blocking and advocates for sustainable oil production strategies in oilfields.

Abstract:Further exploitation of the residual oil underground in post-polymer flooded reservoirs is attractive and challenging. Microbial-enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) is a promising strategy to enhance the recovery of residual oil in post-polymer flooded reservoirs. Identifying and selectively activating indigenous microorganisms with oil displacement capabilities is an urgent requirement in the current design of efficient microbial-enhanced oil recovery technologies. This study combines high-throughput sequencing with functional network analysis to identify the core functional microbes within the reservoirs. Concurrently, it devises targeted activation strategies tailored to oligotrophic conditions through an analysis of environmental factor influences. The feasibility of these strategies is then validated through physical simulation experiments. With nutrient stimulation, the overall diversity of microorganisms decreases while the abundance of functional microorganisms increases. The core displacement results showed that the oil recovery factor increased by 3.82% on the basis of polymer flooding. In summary, this research has established a system for the efficient activation of functional microorganisms under oligotrophic conditions by utilizing bioinformatics, network analysis, and indoor simulation systems. This achievement will undoubtedly lay a solid foundation for the practical implementation of microbial enhancement techniques in the field.

Abstract:As mature oilfields enter the high-water-cut development stage, significant amounts of residual oil remain trapped underground. To enhance the effectiveness of tertiary oil recovery, it is crucial to understand the distribution and mobilization patterns of this residual oil. In this study, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was used to create a microscopic oil displacement model, which was observed and recorded using a stereomicroscope. The experimental images were extracted, analyzed, and quantitatively evaluated, categorizing the microscopic residual oil in the high-water-cut sandstone reservoirs of Dagang Oilfield into cluster-like, pore surface film-like, corner-like, and slit-like types. Polymer–surfactant composite flooding (abbreviated as SP flooding) effectively mobilized 47.16% of cluster-like residual oil and 43.74% of pore surface film-like residual oil, with some mobilization of corner-like and slit-like residual oil as well. Building on SP flooding, dual-mobility flooding further increased the mobilization of cluster-like residual oil by 12.37% and pore surface film-like residual oil by 3.52%. With the same slug size, dual-mobility flooding can reduce development costs by 16.43%. Overall, dual-mobility flooding offers better development prospects.

Abstract:To clarify microscopic mechanisms of residual oil displacement by hydraulic pulsation wave, microscopic visualization experiments of hydraulic pulsation wave driving residual oil were carried out by using the microscopic visualization device of pulsating water drive. For the four types of residual oil left in the reservoir after water flooding, i.e. membrane, column, cluster, and blind end residual oils, hydraulic pulsation waves broke the micro-equilibrium of the interface by disturbing the oil-water interface, so that the injected water invaded into and contacted with the remaining oil in small pores and blind holes, and the remaining oil was pushed or stripped to the mainstream channel by deformation superposition effect and then carried out by the injected water. In the displacement, the pulsation frequency mainly affected the cluster and blind end remaining oil, and the hydraulic pulsation wave with a frequency of about 1 Hz had the best effect in improving the recovery. The pulsation amplitude value mainly affected the membrane and column residual oil, and the larger the amplitude value, the more remaining oil the hydraulic pulsation wave would displace. The presence of low intensity continuous flow pressure and holding pressure end pressure promoted the concentration of pulsating energy and greatly improve the recovery of cluster residual oil. The rise in temperature made the hydraulic pulsation wave work better in displacing remaining oil, improving the efficiency of oil flooding.

Abstract:For the last 20 years Shengli oilfield has done research into the application of microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR). The authors summarize and analyze MEOR progress in mechanism research and field application in Shengli oilfield. The results indicate MEOR could improve oil recovery after water flooding and polymer flooding with multiple mechanisms. Cumulative oil increment of MEOR application on seven blocks was 212,366 t. The research and application of MEOR should concentrate on air assisted microbial flooding and indigenous microbial flooding in the future.

Abstract:At present, the water displacement recovery in some medium- and low-permeability reservoirs that cannot be injected and produced in offshore oil fields because of small pores and complex structures is less than 18%. This amount is far lower than 25-40%, which is obtained after water displacement and chemical displacement in medium- and high-permeability reservoirs. Given the current situation of water injection in offshore medium- and low-permeability reservoirs, a new green and environmentally friendly nano-oil displacement technology must be urgently developed to improve the sweep coefficient and oil displacement efficiency of injected water. In this study, the experimental laboratory investigation of a biological nano-oil displacement system suitable for medium- and low-permeability reservoirs is performed. The oil displacement effects, such as changing interfacial tension, viscosity reduction, and oil flushing ability, are also evaluated. The partial differential mathematical model of multicomponent isothermal multiphase seepage is deduced, the mechanism of biological nano-oil displacement technology is finely characterized, and a set of numerical simulation optimization charts of the biological nano-oil displacement process parameters is established. Results show that the biological nano-oil displacement system has adsorption characteristics in porous media, effective miscibility with crude oil, and a minimum contact angle reaching 14.3°. Its interfacial tension can be reduced to the 10-3 level, the viscosity reduction efficiency can reach more than 90%, and the oil washing efficiency can reach more than 70%. Compared with the conventional water and chemical displacement systems, the displacement system in this study has a good oil rock flushing effect and improves oil recovery by 15%. When the injection-production ratio is comprehensively considered, the recommended injection cycle is 6000 ppm. The field test of the biological nano-oil displacement system has been completed, with a validity period of 1 year and a cumulative oil increase of 1.2 × 104 m3, which is still effective. This study provides environmentally friendly solutions for the new chemical displacement of offshore medium- and low-permeability reservoirs. The established process parameter optimization chart has important guiding relevance for the optimization of technical schemes and improvement of the oil increase effect in chemical displacement.

Abstract:Water flooding is widely employed for oil production worldwide. However, there has never been a systematic investigation of the microbial communities occurring in oilfield water re-injection facilities. Here, we investigated the distribution of bacterial and archaeal communities in water re-injection facilities of an oilfield, and illustrated the combined influences of environmental variation and the microorganisms in injected water on the microbial communities. Bacterial communities from the surface injection facilities were dominated by aerobic or facultative anaerobic Betaproteobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, and Flavobacteria, whereas Clostridia, Deltaproteobacteria, Anaerolineae, and Synergistia predominated in downhole of the injection wells, and Gammaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, and Epsilonproteobacteria predominated in the production wells. Methanosaeta, Methanobacterium, and Methanolinea were dominant archaea in the injection facilities, while Methanosaeta, Methanomethylovorans, and Methanoculleus predominated in the production wells. This study also demonstrated that the microorganisms in injected water could be easily transferred from injection station to wellheads and downhole of injection wells, and environmental variation and diffusion-limited microbial transfer resulted from formation filtration were the main factors determining microbial community assembly in oil-bearing strata. The results provide novel information on the bacterial and archaeal communities and the underlying mechanisms occurring in oilfield water re-injection facilities, and benefit the development of effective microbiologically enhanced oil recovery and microbiologically prevented reservoir souring programs.

Abstract:CO2 flooding can significantly enhance oil recovery. However, the research on the distribution of remaining oil after CO2-oil and the method of further enhancing oil recovery still needs to be strengthened. Traditional studies on the mechanisms of CO2 flooding to enhance oil recovery mainly focus on core displacement experiments. In order to better simulate the actual field conditions, we conducted a three-dimensional heterogeneous physical simulation experiment. Compared to conventional core displacement experiments, three-dimensional heterogeneous physical model displacement experiments align more closely with actual conditions at the oilfield site. This study establishes a large-scale indoor three-dimensional high-temperature high-pressure displacement physical model and employs three different oil displacement methods: CO2–Water alternating flooding, CO2–Water alternating combined with foam flooding, and CO2–Water alternating combined with imbibition agent flooding. The study investigates the distribution of residual oil and recovery in heterogeneous reservoirs under different injection and production methods. We proposed three experimental schemes to see which one would have better effects in the oilfield. Experimental results show that CO2–Water alternating flooding combined with different chemical flooding agents improves oil recovery. The CO2–Water alternating combined with an imbibition enhancer flooding method achieves the best results, with recovery increased by 16.3% and 1.7% compared to CO2–Water alternating flooding and CO2–Water alternating combined with foam flooding, respectively. The imbibition agent significantly improves wettability and spontaneous imbibition by reducing interfacial tension and resolving the issue of CO2 failing to enter small pores under low differential pressure conditions, thereby maximizing recovery and displacement efficiency.

Abstract:Pore and permeability are distributed discontinuously and unevenly in the dominant sedimentary model of the lateral accretion body inside the meandering river point bar of the Fuyang reservoir of the Yushulin oilfield. Based on the water flooding experiments of field core samples, the influence of pore permeability conditions on residual oil distribution type and water cutting rate was studied by using the microscopic visualization technology enabled through a photolithographically fabricated glass model. It is found that the residual oil in samples shows five discontinuous types, which are cluster, columnar, oil droplet, membrane, and blind end. In the stages with low, medium, and high water cutting rates, the proportion of clustered residual oil in the samples with different permeability is high, reflecting the situation that it is difficult for injected water to spread widely in tight oil reservoirs. With the decrease of permeability, the proportion of membrane and blind end residual oil gradually increases, which indicates that the thin pore throat can produce large restrictions on residual oil, resulting in residual oil enrichment. At the same time, the water flooding experiment was carried out by changing the displacement direction and periodic water injection. It was found that changing the displacement direction was beneficial to the recovery of residual oil in the thin pore throat and avoided the dominant seepage of injected water in the big pore throat, and the recovery rate was increased by more than 2.14%. Periodic water injection, which was conducive to adjusting the displacement pressure difference, reduced the constraining force of the throat on residual oil and increased the recovery rate by more than 3.98%. The actual well area with closed coring wells and dynamic production data is preferred for the application of experimental research results. Changing displacement direction and periodic water injection increased the residual oil recovery by more than 3%.

Abstract:Alternating carbon dioxide and water flooding can not only seal greenhouse gases, but also combine the advantages of water flooding and carbon dioxide flooding, and can well control mobility and stabilize the displacement front, thereby greatly improving the macro-replacing efficiency. In order to further improve the development effect of water–carbon dioxide alternating flooding, this paper, based on sufficient collection of the literature, research, and analysis, pre-uses modified water instead of water, and deeply explores and studies the impact of modified water–carbon dioxide alternating flooding on the improvement of development effect and the mechanism of enhancing oil recovery in low-permeability reservoirs. The main work completed is as follows: (1) A comparative experiment of multiple groups of sand-filled tubes with different displacement media, modified water concentrations, and injection plug sizes was conducted under the conditions of simulating reservoir formation temperature of 70 °C and formation pressure of 18 MPa, and the optimal scheme and injection parameters of alternating modified water and carbon dioxide flooding were rationally selected. The results show that the alternating flooding of modified water and carbon dioxide in low-permeability reservoirs can significantly improve the development effect. The optimal injection parameters are a formulation concentration of 0.3% and an injection method of alternating a 0.1 PV slug injection of carbon dioxide and modified water. (2) Using Berea cores instead of sand-fill tubes, a comparative experiment of alternating oil displacement using carbon dioxide and modified water was carried out under the same experimental conditions. Nuclear magnetic resonance measurements were performed on five of the cores to analyze the microscopic oil displacement mechanisms of different displacement media. The results show the following: nuclear magnetic resonance testing shows that carbon dioxide displacement can greatly improve the oil recovery efficiency in tiny pores (about 47.43%); alternating injection can further improve the oil recovery efficiency in tiny pores (about 70.6%); and modified water can improve the oil recovery efficiency in larger pores (about 56.47%).

Abstract:Residual crude oil production from low-permeability reservoirs has become a huge challenge because conventional recovery techniques are inefficient. Nanofluids as a new type of oil-displacement agent have become a hot topic in recent years to enhance oil recovery (EOR) in reservoirs. However, the imperfection of agglomeration, dissolution, and instability of nanofluids in reservoir environments limit their ability to drive oil. Here, a novel “microbial-nanofluid” composed of petroleum hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria (PHDB, namely Bacillus cereus) and SiO2 nanoparticles was proposed as a potential new technology for enhancing residual oil recovery. The micromodel displacement test results showed that the optimum composite concentration of “microbial-nanofluids” were PHDB (7.0%, v/v) and SiO2 nanoparticles (100 mg/L), and the residual oil recovery was increased by 30.1% compared with waterflooding (68.8%). Moreover, the morphological characteristics of residual oil mobilization after “microbial-nanofluid” flooding were mainly small and dispersed oil droplets in the excessive areas, and the dead-end areas were almost clean with mobilization. Furthermore, the cooperation mechanism of four kinds of “microbial-nanofluids” to enhance the residual oil recovery in low-permeability reservoirs was preliminarily clarified, namely the co-emulsification of oil, working together to unclog oil clog, microbial-nanofluid self-assembly, and structural disjoining pressure. This study demonstrated that PHDB-SiO2 nanoparticle composite flooding technology provided a significant potential for the EOR from low-permeability reservoirs.

Abstract:In order to visualize multiphase fluid seepage in porous reservoir media due to gravitational differentiation, a series of innovative experimental devices for individual or composite repulsion were fabricated to study and analyze the effects of repulsion mode, glass bead diameter, inclination angle, settling time, and crude oil viscosity on the gravitational differentiation of oil, gas, and water. The results show that compared with the actual production process in the reservoir, which requires a long time for the transport and aggregation of multiphase fluids under the action of gravity, this device can make the oil, gas, and water to produce gravity differentiation quickly and obviously. Compared with water flooding and gas flooding, combination flooding mainly extracted the emulsion of the oil–water mixture. The gravity differentiation effect of the oil–water mixture is much more significant than that of the oil–gas mixture. Static treatment of the emulsion is also required for reading numbers and producing a clear oil–water interface by oil–water gravity differentiation. Neither too low nor too high, the bank angle of a pipe filled with sand is conducive to the oil–water gravity differentiation. The effect of gravity differentiation within a specific time is directly proportional to the standing time. The change in the displacement mode can further amplify the three-phase gravity differentiation of oil, gas, and water. The greater the viscosity of crude oil, the harder the displacement. Finally, the microscopic experiment witnessed the oil–water gravity differentiation process of the extracted emulation. This experimental study identifies the main factors affecting the gravitational differentiation of multiphase fluids and methods to improve the gravitational differentiation rate of oil and water or oil and gas. The findings provide a theoretical basis for the rational and effective development of oil reservoirs.
