Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:We prove several formulas related to Hodge theory and the Kodaira–Spencer–Kuranishi deformation theory of Kähler manifolds. As applications, we present a construction of globally convergent power series of integrable Beltrami differentials on Calabi–Yau manifolds and also a construction of global canonical family of holomorphic (n,0) -forms on the deformation spaces of Calabi–Yau manifolds. Similar constructions are also applied to the deformation spaces of compact Kähler manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we observe a set of functionals of metrics which are all decrease under the Calabi flow and have uniform lower bound along the flow, which give rise to a set of integral estimates on the curvature flow. Using these estimates, together with weak compactness we obtained in previous papers [8] and [10], we prove the long term existence and convergence of the Calabi flow. Thus give a new proof to Chruscial's theorem. The set of simple ideas of global integral estimates and concentration compactness should have further implications in other heat flow problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Calabi flow on a polarized Kähler manifold and some related problems. We first give a precise statement on the short time existence of the Calabi flow for any c 3,α ( M ) initial Kähler potential. As an application, we prove a stability result: any metric near a constant scalar curvature Kähler (CscK) metric will flow to a nearby CscK metric exponentially fast. Secondly, we prove that a compactness theorem in the space of the Kähler metrics given uniform Ricci bound and potential bound. As an application, we prove the Calabi flow can be extended once Ricci curvature stays uniformly bounded. Lastly, we prove a removing-singularity result about a weak constant scalar curvature metric in a punctured disc.

Abstract:We prove that constant scalar curvature K\"ahler metric "adjacent" to a fixed K\"ahler class is unique up to isomorphism. This extends the uniqueness theorem of Donaldson and Chen-Tian, and formally fits into the infinite dimensional G.I.T picture described by Donaldson. We prove that the Calabi flow near a cscK metric exists globally and converges uniformly to a cscK metric in a polynomial rate. Viewed in a K\"ahler class, the Calabi flow is also shown to be asymptotic to a smooth geodesic ray at infinity. This latter fact is also interesting in the finite dimensional analogue, where we show that the downward gradient flow of the Kempf-Ness function in a semi-stable orbit is asymptotic to the direction of optimal degeneration.
A note on modified $J$-Flow with the Calabi Ansatz

Abstract:We study the modified $J$-flow introduced in [15], particularly the singularities of the flow using the Calabi symmetry. In [20], on toric manifolds the convergence of modified $J$-flow to the smooth solution was proven under the assumption of positivity of certain intersection numbers. In the case of the Calabi ansatz, we show that if some of those intersection numbers are not positive, then the modified $J$-flow blows up along some variety, and away from the variety we prove the convergence to the solution. As in [10], we also prove that the convergence behavior of the modified $J$-flow with Calabi symmetry depends on the topological constants $c$ and the minimum of the Hamiltonian function.

The generalized Kähler Calabi-Yau problem

Abstract:We formulate an extension of the Calabi conjecture to the setting of generalized Kähler geometry. We show a transgression formula for the Bismut Ricci curvature in this setting, which requires a new local Goto/Kodaira-Spencer deformation result, and use it to show that solutions of the generalized Calabi-Yau equation on compact manifolds are classically Kähler, Calabi-Yau, and furthermore unique in their generalized Kähler class. We show that the generalized Kähler-Ricci flow is naturally adapted to this conjecture, and exhibit a number of a priori estimates and monotonicity formulas which suggest global existence and convergence. For initial data in the generalized Kähler class of a Kähler Calabi-Yau structure we prove the flow exists globally and converges to this unique fixed point. This has applications to understanding the space of generalized Kähler structures, and as a special case yields the topological structure of natural classes of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms on hyperKähler manifolds. In the case of commuting-type generalized Kähler structures we establish global existence and convergence with arbitrary initial data to a Kähler, Calabi-Yau metric, which yields a new $d d^c$-lemma for these structures.

Combinatorial curvature flows for generalized hyperbolic circle packings

Abstract:Generalized circle packings were introduced in \cite{Ba-Hu-Sun} as a generalization of tangential circle packings in hyperbolic background geometry. In this paper, we introduce the combinatorial Calabi flow, fractional combinatorial Calabi flow and combinatorial $p$-th Calabi flow for generalized hyperbolic circle packings. We establish several equivalent conditions regarding the longtime behaviors of these flows. This provides effective algorithms for finding the generalized circle packings with prescribed total geodesic curvatures.

Abstract:We consider the formation of singularities along the Calabi flow by assuming the uniformly bounded Sobolev constants. On Kähler surfaces we prove that if curvature tensor is not uniformly bounded, then one can form a singular model called deepest bubble ; such deepest bubble has to be a scalar flat ALE Kähler metric. In certain Kähler classes on toric Fano surfaces, the Sobolev constants are a priori bounded along the Calabi flow with small Calabi energy. We can also show in certain cases no deepest bubble can form along the flow. It follows that the curvature tensor is uniformly bounded and the flow exists for all time and converges to an extremal metric subsequently. To illustrate our results more clearly, we focus on an example on ℂℙ^2 blown up three points at generic position. Our result also implies existence of constant scalar curvature metrics on ℂℙ^2 blown up three points at generic position in the Kähler classes where the exceptional divisors have the same area.
Combinatorial p-th Calabi Flows for Total Geodesic Curvatures in hyperbolic background geometry

Abstract:In hyperbolic background geometry, we investigate a generalized circle packing (including circles, horocycles and hypercycles) with conical singularities on a surface with boundary, which has a total geodesic curvature on each generalized circle of this circle packing and a discrete Gaussian curvature on the center of each dual circle. The purpose of this paper is to find this type of circle packings with prescribed total geodesic curvatures on generalized circles and discrete Gaussian curvatures on centers of dual circles. To achieve this goal, we firstly establish existence and rigidity on this type of circle packings by the variational principle. Secondly, for $p>1$, we introduce combinatorial $p$-th Calabi flows to find the circle packing with prescribed total geodesic curvatures on generalized circles and discrete Gaussian curvatures on centers of dual circles for the first time.

Flows of $G_2$-Structures associated to Calabi-Yau Manifolds

Abstract:We establish a correspondence between a parabolic complex Monge-Ampère equation and the $G_2$-Laplacian flow for initial data produced from a Kähler metric on a complex $2$- or $3$-fold. By applying estimate for the complex Monge-Ampère equation, we show that for this class of initial data the $G_2$-Laplacian flow exists for all time and converges to a torsion-free $G_2$-structure induced by a Kähler Ricci-flat metric. Similar results are obtained for the $G_2$-Laplacian coflow, and in this case the coflow is related to the Kähler-Ricci flow.

Abstract:It is conjectured by Song-Tian that the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow on compact Kahler manifolds with semi-ample canonical line bundle is uniformly smooth away from the singular fibers. In this work, we adapt the method in the work of Hein-Tosatti on collapsing Calabi-Yau metrics and obtain a uniform spatial Holder estimate along the normalized Kahler-Ricci flow for all time away from the singular fiber.

Abstract:We show the convergence of Kähler Ricci flow directly if the α -invariant of the canonical class is greater than n/n+1 . Applying these convergence theorems, we can give a Kähler Ricci flow proof of Calabi conjecture on such Fano manifolds. In particular, the existence of KE metrics on a lot of Fano surfaces can be proved by flow method. Note that this geometric conclusion (based on the same assumption) was established earlier via elliptic method by Tian (Invent. Math. 89(2):225–246, 1987 ; Invent. Math. 101(1):101–172, 1990 ; Invent. Math. 130:1–39, 1997 ). However, a new proof based on Kähler Ricci flow should be still interesting in its own right.

Abstract: We study some estimates along the Kahler Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. Using these estimates, we show the convergence of Kahler Ricci flow directly if the $\alpha$-invariant of the canonical class is greater than $\frac{n}{n+1}$. Applying these convergence theorems, we can give a flow proof of Calabi conjecture on such Fano manifolds. In particular, the existence of Kahler Einstein metrics on a lot of Fano surfaces can be proved by flow method. Note that this geometric conclusion (based on the same assumption) was established earlier via elliptic method by G. Tian. However, a new proof based on Kahler Ricci flow should be still interesting in its own right.

Abstract:In this paper, we attempt to determine the quantum cohomology of projective bundles over the projective space P^n. In contrast to the previous examples, the relevant moduli spaces in our case frequently do not have expected dimensions. It makes the calculation more difficult. We overcome this difficulty by using excessive intersection theory.

Abstract:We prove the longtime existence and convergence of the Calabi flow on toric Fano surfaces in a large family of Kahler classes where the class has positive extremal Hamiltonian potential and the initial Calabi energy is bounded by some constant.
