Abstract:Aim: This study aimed to identify the latent profiles of professional identity among nursing students and explore the factors associated with different profiles. Background: Nursing students' professional identity is easily influenced by various factors. However, current studies mainly focused on the overall level of professional identity and its related factors, ignoring the population heterogeneity of nursing students' professional identity. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: A convenient sampling was used to collect data from 384 nursing students who were undergoing their clinical practicum in the affiliated hospitals of a medical university in China between January and April 2021. Data were collected using the demographic questionnaire, the nursing student internship stress scale, the simplified coping style questionnaire, and the professional identity scale for nursing students. A latent profile analysis was used to identify the latent profiles of professional identity. Kruskal-Wallis H test, analysis of variance and ordinal logistic regression were used to determine factors that were associated with different profiles of professional identity. Result: Nursing students' professional identity could be classified into four profiles: low professional identity, relatively low professional identity, relatively high professional identity and high professional identity. These four profiles showed unique relationships with choosing nursing voluntarily, willing to be a clinical nursing staff, stress in conflict between study and work, and positive coping styles. Conclusion: The majority of the nursing students were classified into profile 1 (low professional identity) and 2 ( relatively low professional identity). Nursing students' lower professional identity need to be further enhanced by improving social recognition of nurses to increase the willingness of high school graduates to choose nursing voluntarily, allocating nursing workforce rationally to increase the willingness of nursing student to be a clinical nursing staff, reducing nursing students' stress in conflict between study and work and encouraging them to adopt positive coping styles.

Abstract:Stress is a nonspecific reaction to everything the body needs. Although occupational stress exists in every occupation, it is seen with more frequency and intensity amongst those occupations related to human health. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between occupational stress and social support (SS) among hospital nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1144 hospital nurse in China. They were investigated with a self-administered questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics, occupational stress and social support. A validated version of the revised Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI-R) was applied to evaluate occupational stress; SS was measured by nine questions. Logistic regression analysis was used to study the association between occupational stress and SS and adjusted for income, gender, marital status, working years, educational level, and profession. Of 1144 nurses, the majority age group was less than 30 years, and the mean age across participants was 31.8 years. Further correlation analysis indicated that score of ORQ and PSQ had a significant negative correlation with score of SS (P<0.05), and a significant positive correlation was found between Score of PRQ and score of SS (P<0.05). The univariate analysis and multivariate analysis results also revealed that high SS increased significantly with decreasing ORQ score and increasing PRQ score after controlling for income, gender, marital status, working years, educational level and job title. SS significantly influences occupational stress in hospitals nurse. We also should pay more attention to occupational stress of married and long working years nurse.

Abstract:The activation of collagenase released by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) has been extensively studied in vitro, but the activation of the enzyme in vivo is not fully understood. For further evaluation of the relative role of oxidative and proteolytic mechanisms in the activation of collagenase, PMNs were stimulated by serum‐opsonized zymosan under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The results showed that similar amounts of collagenase were released by the PMNs under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, but the activity of the released collagenase was twice as high under aerobic conditions as under anaerobic conditions. Under aerobic conditions the enzyme was rapidly activated by hypochlorous acid and chloramines, which are products of the myeloperoxidase‐H2O2‐chloride system of the PMNs. There was also a slow proteolytic activation of the enzyme, which could be ascribed to cathepsin G and possibly to some other serine proteases of PMNs. When extrapolating these findings to in vivo conditions, it seems probable that the oxidative activation of collagenase will proceed mainly by chloramines, which are more long‐lived in the tissue than hypochlorous acid. Impact of professional identity on learner well-being of undergraduate nursing students of "double tops" universities: Mediating effect of self-regulated learning

Abstract:Objectives: The pressure of internal competition at the college level has increased in recent years in China with an impact on nursing students' learning and well-being. This study aimed to investigate the current situation and factors affecting professional identity, learner well-being and self-regulated learning of undergraduate nursing students in the Neijuan ecology of the "double tops" universities, and to explore the relationships between these three variables. Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted to conduct an online survey of 322 Chinese undergraduate nursing students from seven "double tops" universities. The survey included socio-demographics characteristics, students' professional identity, learner well-being, and self-regulated learning. Results: Results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that professional identity was significantly and positively correlated with learner well-being (R = 0.795, p < 0.001); professional identity was significantly and positively correlated with self-regulated learning (R = 0.843, p < 0.001); and, self-regulated learning was significantly and positively correlated with learner well-being (R = 0.852, p < 0.001). After mediation effect testing, self-regulated learning had a mediating effect between professional identity and learner well-being (95 % CI 0.366-0.548, p < 0.001). Professional identity had a positive predictive effect on self-regulated learning (a = 0.570, p < 0.001), and self-regulated learning also had a positive predictive effect on learner well-being (b = 0.798, p < 0.001). The direct effect of professional identity on learner well-being (0.225) and its mediating effect (0.455) account for 33.1 % and 66.9 % of the total effect (0.680), respectively. Conclusions: The learner well-being of undergraduate Chinese nursing students is in the middle to upper range, and it is crucial to enhance professional identity and develop students' self-regulated learning to improve their learner well-being. This study provides empirical evidence to support the mediating effect of self-regulated learning on the relationship between professional identity and learner well-being among undergraduate nursing students in "double tops" universities. Universities are expected to strengthen career planning guidance and professional competence training for students as early as possible in order to develop quality nursing education programs that produce graduates who enter and remain in the workforce.

Abstract:Abstract Background Experiencing internship shapes nursing students’ professional commitment and aggravates its changes. However, few studies have been investigated how this changes empirically. Objectives The aims of this study are to investigate (a) what are the changes of professional commitment of nursing students before and after the internship? (b) Which of multiple independent variables is the strongest predictor? Methods A longitudinal study was conducted with 996 senior undergraduate nursing students (ready to enter clinical practice) in the China universities. The survey was conducted in the spring of 2015 and autumn of 2016. The data were collected by a paper-and-pencil questionnaire. The instruments used included Professional Commitment Scale and Perceived Stress Scale. Analysis of paired t -test and linear regression analysis were performed on the data. Results Nursing students showed lower professional commitment (2.79 ± 0.36) than they were (2.92 ± 0.36) before internship. Socio-demographic variables, pre-internship professional commitment and stress perceived during internship predicted 40.1% of the variance in the post-internship commitment. Discussion These data summarize the nursing students’ professional commitment changes and the main influential factors that contribute to post-internship professional commitment of undergraduate nursing student. The findings are timely, which indicate that senior nursing students’ professional commitment can be increased by enhancing pre-internship commitment and reducing students’ stress levels during internship.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate nurses' professional identity,job stress,job satisfaction and turnover intention in Beijing.Methods:Totally 1272 nurses from 19 hospitals of different levels in Beijing were recruited by convenient sampling method and investigated by self-designed questionnaires about nurses' professional identity,job stress,job satisfaction,and turnover intention.Results:The mean score of social class was 36.5±19.7(median 35.0) and only 27.8% nurses felt respected by patients.About 57.2% nurses felt their job stressful or very stressful and the main stressors were high professional risk,high workload,and the low social evaluation.Only 30.7% nurses were satisfied with their job and the main dissatisfying factors were low income,high professional risk,and high workload.About 35.2% nurses were unwilling to be nurses anymore and the main reasons were low income,high professional risk,and high workload.Multiple linear regression showed that the influencing factors of nurses' professional identity,job stress,and job satisfaction were working years and education background,marital status and hospital level,and hospital level,professional qualifications and post,respectively.Logistic regression showed that the influencing factor of turnover intention was hospital level.Conclusion:The professional identity and job satisfaction of nurses in Beijing is low,while the job stress and turnover intention is high.Hospital managers should take some effective measures to enhance nurse' professional identity and job satisfaction and reduce their job stress and turnover intention to stabilize nursing team and to ensure nursing quality.

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the influencing factors in professional identity of undergraduate nursing students after the outbreak of COVID-19.DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.METHODS: The study covered 2,999 nursing students in six undergraduate nursing schools. Several self-report questionnaires were used to collect the general information, psychological stress, coping styles and professional identity of the undergraduate nursing students.RESULTS: The overall average score of the professional identity of nursing students (3.67 ± 0.51) has increased significantly after the outbreak of COVID-19. The professional identity of the undergraduate nursing students was negatively correlated with psychological stress (r = -0.23, p < .001), expectation (r = -0.12, p < .001) and avoidance (r = -0.16, p < .001), but was positively correlated with solving problems (r = 0.18, p < .001) and seeking support (r = 0.12, p < .001). Academic performance, positions, grades, reasons for choosing a nursing profession, parents or relatives engaged in nursing work and the risk degree of residence were the factors influencing the professional identity score of undergraduate nursing students' (p < .001).

Abstract:AIM: This study explored the relationship between self-efficacy, professional identity and competence among nursing students and analyzed the mediating role of self-efficacy in the relationship between professional identity and competence.BACKGROUND: Increasing attention has been paid to the cultivation of competence among nursing students; however, few studies to date have analyzed its related factors and examined their relationship.DESIGN: A quantitative study with a descriptive design was performed in this study, adopting an online survey with convenience and snowball sampling. A cross-sectional sample of 887 nursing students in the internship period of their education program in mainland China was recruited from November to December 2020.METHODS: The Nursing Students Competence Instrument, Professional Identity Questionnaire for Nurse Students and General Self-efficacy Scale were distributed online. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, structural equation modeling (SEM) and the bootstrap method were employed in data analysis.RESULTS: Competence was significantly and positively correlated with professional identity (r = 0.598; P < 0.01) and self-efficacy (r = 0.692; P < 0.01). SEM analysis revealed that professional identity (β = 0.31; P < 0.01) or self-efficacy (β = 0.31; P < 0.01) could have a positive impact on competence. Meanwhile, self-efficacy played a mediating role in the relationship between professional identity and competence, with an indirect effect of professional identity creation through self-efficacy accounting for 52% of the total effect.CONCLUSIONS: Self-efficacy mediates the relationship between professional identity and competence to some extent. School educators and clinical tutors should pay greater attention to students' professional identity and self-efficacy to improve students' competence.

Abstract:Objective:To understand the status quo of male nursing students’ self-esteem,stress and professional identity,and to analyze the correlation among the three,so as to provide the basis for nursing management and nursing education.Methods:Self-Esteem Scale,Stress Scale questionnaire with professional identity were used for survey of a total of 240 male nursing students in the school survey.Results:Male nursing students,self-esteem,stress,professional identity scores were(2.89±0.36),(3.12±0.65),(3.27±0.67),higher levels of selfesteem,the stress and professional identity level in the midle;self-esteem,stress and professional identity was statistically significant among different grades,professional interests male nursing students(P<0.05 or P<0.01);male nursing students’ self-esteem,stress and professional identity was significantly correlated(both P<0.05).Conclusion:Nursing managers and educators were required for different grades,professional interests,and the relationship between parents male nursing students self-esteem,stress and professional identity of the situation,we take targeted measures to enhance self-esteem,reduce stress,thus contributing to their professional identity a sense of development.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background and Objective</h3><p>Nursing professional identity is an important factor in the development of nursing education and clinical practice. Career-planning curriculums enable students to learn relevant knowledge and skills in a targeted manner, in addition to achieve career targets. Assessment and analysis of the present situation of Chinese nursing students' career planning and professional identity may provide an important guidance for the improvement of teaching content and quality of the career-planning curriculum. This study aimed to describe nursing students' professional identity, and to find out influences of nursing students' career planning, internship experience, and other factors on professional identity.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>A descriptive cross-sectional research method was employed to conduct a questionnaire on 453 full-time junior and senior undergraduate nursing students in China in December 2019.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>The average score for nursing students' professional identity was 101.42, which is at a moderately low-level. There was a significantly positive correlation between the level of nursing students' career planning and professional identity (r = 0.529, <em>P</em> <0.01). Nursing students' professional identity was also influenced by grade, age, acceptance of career-planning curriculums, and other factors.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusion</h3><p>The results indicated that the level of professional identity in nursing students is closely associated with their career planning. One strategy to improve this situation is to motivate universities to pay further attention to the effectiveness of career-planning curriculums and, to improve the quality of teaching and guidance system.</p>

Survey on Professional Identity among Undergraduate Nursing Students after Practice

Abstract:Objective To understand the perception of professional identity among undergraduate nursing students after practice and to analyze its influencing factors.Methods "The Questionnaire of Professional Identity among Undergraduate Nursing Students" was applied to survey 120 students from one medical university.Results The total score of professional identity was 77.81±9.73,which was in the middle level.The highest and lowest score were from professional affection and professional expectations.Male students got higher score than female students did in professional value(P0.05).Students who practiced in class Ⅲ grade Ⅰ hospitals got higher score in professional identity than those did in other hospitals(P0.05).Different matriculations also played a part in the perception of professional identity(P0.05).Besides,students who chose nursing as their first major got higher score than those who did not(P0.01).Conclusion The overall level of professional identity is at medium.Students choosing nursing because of professional desire get the highest scores of professional identity and other influencing factors of professional identity involve gender,intern hospital and matriculation.Society,teachers and nursing students need to work together to develop the perception of professional identity.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the professional identity of nursing undergraduates in Beijing area and analyze its influence factors, so as to provide references for improving the professional identity of nursing undergraduates in the future. Methods From March to May 2018, a total of 579 full-time nursing undergraduates in four universities in Beijing area were investigated by questionnaire,and the influence factors were analyzed. Results The total score of professional identity of undergraduate nursing students was 83. 58± 11. 18. Only 35( 6. 0％) students were highly identified with their major. Converted to 0～100 score scale, the average scores of professional expectation, professional skills, professional understanding, professional values, professional will and professional emotion were 83. 50,76. 35,52. 95,48. 75,47. 33 and 47. 00 respectively. The factors influencing the professional identity of nursing undergraduates were their grades, whether or not they have relatives to engage in medical-related professions and the sources of professional intention. The above three factors could explain 15. 7％ of the total variation. Among them, the total score of professional identity of the fourth grade students was lower than that of the other three grades. The total score of professional identity of the students with relatives engaged in medical-related occupations was higher. The professional will of the students from themselves and their parents was higher than that of other students. Conclusions Nursing undergraduates' professional identity level is not high. The professional identity can be improved through the reform of nursing education, the improvement of clinical learning and working environment.

" can definitely be answered " No." We have never considered such a possibility and certainly would not wish for such a development. Dr. David W. Shedden (April 6, p. 943) writes that he and some of his colleagues will not apply for membership if an examination is introduced as one of the criteria. On the other hand, several young doctors have told us that they will not join until our membership stands for some worthwhile academic achievement connected with general practice. The Council of the College is grateful to you, Sir, for the space you have given to this correspondence, which we have found most enlightening and encouraging. It bears a striking resemblance to that which appeared in the medical journals just over 100 years ago when the F.R.C.S. examination was introduced. With many others, we believe that the F.R.C.S. diploma has done more than almost anything else to raise the standard of British surgery. Abstract:Background: Transition shock is prevalent among nursing interns. Future time perspective helps nursing interns learn and work more effectively and improve their problem-solving skills. Professional self-concept and professional identity play an important central and driving role in nursing interns' career choices and career development. However, the mechanism by which future time perspective, professional self-concept and professional identity are linked to transition shock among nursing interns remains unknown. Objectives: We assess the degree of transition shock experienced by nursing interns and investigate the connections among transition shock, future-focused viewpoint, professional identity, and professional self-concept. Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional design was conducted. Setting: Eight hospitals in Hunan Province, China were included in the study. Participants: Nursing interns at the studied hospital participated in the study. Methods: A total of 1090 nursing interns [929 female, 161 male] were recruited from eight hospitals. Data on transition shock, future time perspective, professional self-concept and professional identity among nursing interns were collected using questionnaires from 30 May to June 15, 2022. Results: On a 4-point rating scale, the participants' felt transition shock had a mean overall score of 2.39 (SD = 0.52). The dimension with the highest score was overwhelming workload (mean = 2.74, SD = 0.58), while the dimension with the lowest score was incongruity between work and personal life (mean = 2.16, SD = 0.70).Professional identity was statistically significantly correlated with transition shock (r = -0.198, p < 0.01). The preferred level of nursing (β = 0.354, p < 00.01), professional self-concept (β = 0.226, p < 00.01), professional identity (β = -0.2576, p < 00.01) and future time perspective (β = 0.119, p < 00.01) were predictors of transition shock. Conclusions: The development of nursing interns' sense of professional identity and future time perspective should be enhanced during both the education phase and clinical placement to help nursing interns overcome the experience of transition shock.

Abstract:Studies were performed to determine the effect of aging on the antibody response and cyst formations after infection with a relatively avirulent strain of the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii. When compared with young mice (4 months), aged mice showed a significant decrease in the magnitude of humoral immune response to infection. This decrease was observed at the peak of the acute infection and also during chronic infection. Evaluation of the presence of Toxoplasma cysts, a measure of the latent infection, revealed that the numbers of tissue cysts present 11 weeks after infection increased with the age of the mice at time of infection. The larger numbers of cysts in older mice which had received the same inoculum size of T. gondii as young mice, together with our previous observations of increased susceptibility of these older mice to T. gondii, suggest that an age-related decrease in the early immune response to this infection allows an increased multiplication of the organism in vivo, leading to increased cyst numbers or death.
