Abstract:Objective To study the clinical effects of the different subgingival flushing in extrasyphilitic syphilitic periodontitis patients.Methods Ten cases extrasyphilitic syphilitic periodontitis patients from September 2011 to September 2012 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group,5 cases in each group.The control group were used ultrasonic subgingival scaling,then traditional washing containing 0.2% metronidazole rinse treatment were used to them.The experimental group were used ultrasonic subgingival scaling,synchronization 0.2% metronidazole liquid flush handle.Before treatment and after 7 days of treatment,plaque index(PL),attachment loss(AL),probing depth(PD),gingival bleeding index(SBI) were recorded.Various indicators of periodontal changes in the two groups were compared before and after treatment,as well as differences between the two groups before and after treatment,periodontal index.Results Seven days after the treatment,PL,SBI of the experimental group and the control group,were significantly reduced;after the treatment PL,AL,PD,SBI of the experimental group reduced significantly than the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion The clinical effect of ultrasound subgingival scaling synchronization washout the periodontitis treatment of syphilis is significantly better than conventional ultrasonic subgingival scaling.

Abstract:To improve the clinical and microbiological outcomes of non-surgical mechanical periodontal therapy, the adjunctive use of antimicrobials has been utilized in treating moderate-to-severe periodontitis. In our study, the retrospective design included previously collected health-related patient data, obtained from the printed and digital charts of patients who received systemic or local antibiotic adjuncts to SI (subgingival instrumentation). A total of 34 patients (diagnosed with generalized Stage III/IV periodontitis) met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were evaluated. The samples were tested for the following bacterial strains: Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans), Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), Prevotella intermedia (P. intermedia), Tanererella forsythia (T. forsythia), and Treponema denticola (T. denticola). The inter-group comparisons of the bacterial species did not show statistically significant differences between groups. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical effects after SI and the adjunctive use of systemically administered (SA) AMX (amoxicillin) + MET (metronidazole) (administered for 7 days), with locally delivered (LDD) piperacillin + tazobactam in step 2 of periodontal therapy. Results: Overall, all parameters were improved in the groups, with a significant difference in inter-group comparison regarding the full-mouth bleeding score (FMBS) (p < 0.05) in favor of the SA group, and the p-value < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Statistically significant PPD (probing pocket depth) reductions and CAL (clinical attachment level) gains were observed in both groups at the 3-month follow-up. In conclusion, within the limitations, the outcomes of this study suggest that SI, with adjunctive local or systemic antibiotic therapy, provided comparable clinical improvements. Systemic AMX + MET protocols were more efficacious with regard to the reduction in FMBS. Follow-up studies with larger patient numbers are needed to further investigate this effect.

Microbiological effects of amoxicillin plus metronidazole in the treatment of young patients with Stages III and IV periodontitis: A secondary analysis from a 1-year double-blinded placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial

Abstract:Background: Despite the body of evidence supporting the clinical benefits of metronidazole (MTZ) and amoxicillin (AMX) in the treatment of young patients with periodontitis, the microbiological outcomes of this antibiotic protocol have been less explored. This study evaluated the microbiological effects of adjunctive MTZ+AMX in the treatment of young patients with periodontitis. Methods: Subjects with periodontitis Stages III or IV and ≤30 years old were randomly allocated to receive scaling and root planing (SRP) with placebo (n = 15) or with MTZ (400 mg) and AMX (500 mg) three times a day for 14 days (n = 15). Nine subgingival biofilm samples per subject (three samples from each probing depth (PD) category: ≤3, 4-6, and ≥7 mm) were collected at baseline and 3-, 6-, and 12-months post-treatment and individually analyzed for 40 bacterial species by checkerboard DNA-DNA hybridization. Results: Thirty subjects (15/group) with mean ages 27.6 ± 3.5 (control) and 26.8 ± 3.9 (test) were included. At 12 months post-therapy, the antibiotic group harbored lower proportions of red complex (1.3%) than the placebo group (12.5%) (p < 0.05). SRP + MTZ+AMX was more effective than mechanical treatment in reducing levels/proportions of several pathogens and increasing proportions of Actinomyces species (p < 0.05). Levels/proportions of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans were only reduced in the antibiotic group (p < 0.05). This group also exhibited greater reduction in the number of sites with PD ≥5 mm and higher percentage of subjects reaching the clinical end point for treatment (≤4 sites with PD ≥5 mm) than the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: SRP+MTZ+AMX allowed for establishing a long-term healthier subgingival biofilm community and periodontal clinical condition, than SRP only.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of systemic use of amoxicillin and metronidazole during mechanical therapy on the clinical parameters of the first molars and periodontal microorganisms in subgingival plaque and saliva in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP). Methods: A total of 23 GAgP patients were recruited from Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from January 2006 to December 2009 and then randomly divided into two groups according to random number table: 12 patients received scaling and root planning (SRP) only and 11 patients received SRP combined with systemic administration of antibiotics (amoxicillin and metronidazole for a week after supragingival scaling). Clinical examination of periodontal parameters and collection of saliva and pooled subgingival plaque samples from mesial-buccal sites of 4 first molars were performed before initial therapy and 2, 4 and 6 months respectively after mechanical therapy, and saliva samples were also collected 2 weeks after therapy. Eight different periodontal microorganisms were detected in these samples by PCR. In addition, semiquantitative analysis of red complex microorganisms [Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Tannerella forsythia (Tf), Treponema denticola (Td)] was performed. Results: Both therapies led to significant decrease of the plaque index (PLI), probing depth (PD) and bleeding index (BI) from mesial-buccal sites of first molars. Meanwhile the PD of antibiotics group [(4.21±1.50), (4.00±1.54), (3.84±1.89) mm of 2, 4 and 6 months respectively after therapy] was significantly lower than the SRP group [(5.29±1.27), (5.30±1.34), (4.98±1.36) mm of 2, 4 and 6 months respectively after therapy] at 3 different time points after mechanical therapy (P<0.05). In the antibiotics group, the quantities of Pg, Tf and Td in subgingival plaque samples (the median quantity decreased to 0.0 ng at 2, 4 and 6 months after therapy) and saliva samples (the median quantity of Tf and Td decreased to 0.0 ng at 2, 4 and 6 months after therapy (P<0.05), and the median quantity of Pg decreased to 16.3, 59.6 and 22.4 ng at 2, 4 and 6 months respectively after therapy) significantly decreased at 3 different time points after mechanical therapy compared with before therapy (P<0.05). While in the SRP group, there were no significant changes in the quantities of Tf and Td in saliva at 2, 4 and 6 months after mechanical therapy (P>0.05) , and the quantities of Tf and Td in subgingival plaque significantly decreased only at 2 months after therapy (P<0.05). Conclusions: SRP combined with systemic administration of amoxicillin and metronidazole could achieve greater improvement in PD of first molars and better control of the amounts of red complex microorganisms in the saliva and subgingival plaque of GAgP patients over a 6-month period.

Abstract:Aim: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical and biochemical effects of combination of hyaluronic acid and metronidazole as an adjunctive treatment of periodontitis. Subjects and methods: Forty patients with stage I to stage II, grade A periodontitis were selected from the out-patient clinic, Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Assiut Branch. They were divided into four equal groups. Group I received conventional periodontal therapy alone, group II received conventional periodontal therapy with intra pocket application of hyaluronic acid gel (GENGIGEL) 0.2%, group III received conventional periodontal therapy with intra pocket application of metronidazole (25%) and group IV received conventional periodontal therapy with intra pocket application of combination of hyaluronic acid (0.2%) and metronidazole (25%). All patients were evaluated clinically at baseline, 3 and 6 months and biochemical evaluation was done at baseline,1 and 3 months to evaluate the IL-1β level in GCF. Results: All groups showed statistically significant differences at the different intervals in all clinical parameters (PI, GI, PD, CAL) and IL-1β level in GCF. Inter-groups comparison with respect to clinical and biochemical changes showed that Combination gel was the best. Conclusion: The combination of hyaluronic acid and metronidazole achieve superior effects as adjunctive therapy in improving the clinical and biochemical parameters in the treatment of periodontitis.

Abstract:1 The inhibitory effects of flecainide were studied on contractile responses in rat isolated aortae and caudal artery and on spontaneous mechanical activity in portal vein segments. 2 In rat isolated aorta flecainide, 10−6 m‐5 × 10−4 m, inhibited in a dose‐dependent manner the contractile responses induced by high K (80 mm) and noradrenaline (NA, 10−5 m). These inhibitory actions were observed when flecainide was added before or after the induced contractions and were similar in aortae with or without endothelium. 3 Contractile responses induced by addition of Ca to Ca‐free high‐K solution were also dose‐dependently inhibited by flecainide (IC50 = 2.5 ± 0.3 × 10−5 m). Moreover, flecainide inhibited the contractile responses elicited by NA in rings incubated in Ca‐free solution. 4 Flecainide also inhibited the spontaneous mechanical activity in portal vein segments (IC50 = 6.5 ± 0.9 × 10−5 m). 5 Flecainide, 10−4 m, inhibited 45Ca uptake stimulated by high K or NA without altering 45Ca uptake in resting aortae. 6 These results indicated that in rat isolated aortae, caudal arteries and portal veins, flecainide inhibited Ca entry through voltage‐operated channels and NA‐induced Ca uptake as well as Ca release from intracellular stores, thus decreasing the availability of intracellular free Ca required for vascular smooth muscle contraction.
Mechanical debridement combined with amoxicillin and metronidazole compared with mechanical debridement alone for the treatment of chronic periodontitis: An overview of systematic reviews

Abstract:Periodontal mechanical debridement is the most common therapy for the treatment of periodontitis. However, depending on the severity of the disease, mechanical debridement has been recommended in combination with systemic antibiotics. In this study, we performed an overview of systematic reviews using the Friendly Summaries of Body of Evidence using Epistemonikos (FRISBEE) methodology on the effectiveness and safety of mechanical debridement combined with amoxicillin and metronidazole compared to mechanical debridement alone for the treatment of chronic periodontitis. We conducted a systematic search of the Epistemonikos database, extracted data from 10 systematic reviews and re-analyzed data from 23 primary studies to generate a summary of findings (SoF) table. We used RevMan 5.3 and GRADEpro for data analysis and data presentation. The following outcomes were analyzed: probing depth (mean difference (MD): 0.07 mm); clinical attachment level (MD: 0.04 mm); bleeding on probing (MD: 5.06%); and suppuration (MD: 0.31%). There was no evidence of a clinically relevant benefit of periodontal mechanical debridement therapy combined with amoxicillin and metronidazole compared to periodontal mechanical debridement therapy alone for the treatment of chronic periodontitis in the studied periodontal outcomes.
[Short Term Effect of Combined Use of Amoxicillin and Metronidazole at Different Time of Non-Surgical Periodontal Treatment for Aggressive Periodontitis].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the short term clinical results of scaling and root planning (SRP) only, SRP combined with amoxicillin (AMX) and metronidazole (MTZ) after supragingival scaling or after SRP in the treatment of aggressive periodontitis (AgP).METHODS:A total of 45 patients with AgP were randomly divided into SRP group, SRP with AMX + MTZ after supragingival scaling group and AMX + MTZ after SRP group. Subgingival scaling and root planning were performed one week after supragingival scaling and finished within 1 month. AMX and MTZ were given for 7 days immediately after supragingival scaling or the last time of SPR. Clinical examinations including probing depth (PD), attachment level (AL) and bleeding index (BI) were performed at baseline and 8 weeks after non-surgical periodontal treatment by the same examiner.RESULTS:There were more PD reduction and AL gain in both AMX + MTZ after supragingival scaling group and AMX + MTZ after SRP group compared with SRP group [2.5 (1.8, 3.3) mm, 2.3 (1.9, 2.7) mm vs. 1.8 (1.3, 2.1) mm, P < 0.05]; [0.9 (0.5, 1.4) mm, 0.8 (0.4, 1.3) mm vs. 0.4 (0.2, 1.0) mm, P < 0.05]. In sites PD ≥ 7 mm, PD reduction was more in AMX + MTZ after supragingival scaling group than AMX + MTZ after SRP group [4.0 (3.0, 5.0) mm vs. 4.0 (3.0, 4.0) mm, P < 0.05)].CONCLUSIONS:The combined use of AMX and MTZ during non-surgical periodontal treatment for patients with AgP was effective in short term. In patients with most sites PD ≥ 7 mm, AMX and MTZ could be taken after supragingival scaling, but the long-term clinical effects needs further investigation.
Effect of Adjunctive Systemic Antibiotics on Microbial Populations Compared with Scaling and Root Planing Alone for the Treatment of Periodontitis: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial.

Abstract:Background To investigate the microbial shift after periodontitis being treated by scaling and root planing (SRP) with or without adjunctive antibiotics, and to assess the relationship between oral microbiota and systemic factors. Methods A 6-month pilot randomized controlled trial recruited 14 subjects with severe periodontitis, divided into test group and control group to receive full-mouth SRP with or without amoxicillin (500 mg) and metronidazole (200 mg) (three times a day for 7 days). Clinical examination, collection of subgingival plaque and saliva, and blood tests were performed at baseline pre-treatment, 3 months, and 6 months post-treatment. The V3V4 region of 16S DNA was sequenced; taxonomic assignment was based on the Human Oral Microbiome Database. Results The periodontal condition significantly improved in both groups; the test group showed a greater improvement in plaque index, probing depth, and bleeding index than the control group. The test group demonstrated significantly lower microbial richness and diversity, and less abundant Porphyromonas than the control group at 3 months for both subgingival microbiome and salivary microbiome. However, the microbial differences narrowed within 6 months. The subgingival and salivary microbiota shifted synergistically. Glucose was positively related to subgingival Porphyromonas; mean platelet volume was positively related to subgingival Leptotrichia. Conclusions Systemic administration of amoxicillin and metronidazole along with SRP had an advantage over SRP alone in clinical improvement and infection control in both the subgingival region and saliva 3 months post-treatment. Microbial advantage nearly disappeared at 6 months; however, the clinical advantage lasted longer. The use of antibiotics also has potential benefits for systemic inflammation and glucose.
Comparison of Full-Mouth Disinfection and Quadrant-Wise Scaling in the Treatment of Adult Chronic Periodontitis: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Scaling and root planing are widely considered as effective methods for treating chronic periodontitis. A meta-analysis published in 2008 showed no statistically significant differences between full-mouth disinfection (FMD) or full-mouth scaling and root planing (FMS) and quadrant scaling and root planing (Q-SRP). The FMD approach only resulted in modest additional improvements in several indices. Whether differences exist between these two approaches requires further validation. Accordingly, a study was conducted to further validate whether FMD with antiseptics or FMS without the use of antiseptics within 24 h provides greater clinical improvement than Q-SRP in patients with chronic periodontitis. Medline (via OVID), EMBASE (via OVID), PubMed and CENTRAL databases were searched up to 27 January 2015. Randomized controlled trials comparing FMD or FMS with Q-SRP after at least 3 mo were included. Meta-analysis was performed to obtain the weighted mean difference (WMD), together with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Thirteen articles were included in the meta-analysis. The WMD of probing pocket depth reduction was 0.25 mm (p < 0.05) for FMD vs. Q-SRP in single-rooted teeth with moderate pockets, and clinical attachment level gain in single- and multirooted teeth with moderate pockets was 0.33 mm (p < 0.05) for FMD vs. Q-SRP. Except for those, no statistically significant differences were found in the other subanalyses of FMD vs. Q-SRP, FMS vs. Q-SRP and FMD vs. FMS. Therefore, the meta-analysis results showed that FMD was better than Q-SRP for achieving probing pocket depth reduction and clinical attachment level gain in moderate pockets. Additionally, regardless of the treatment, no serious complications were observed. FMD, FMS and Q-SRP are all effective for the treatment of adult chronic periodontitis, and they do not lead to any obvious discomfort among patients. Moreover, FMD had modest additional clinical benefits over Q-SRP, so we prefer to recommend FMD as the first choice for the treatment of adult chronic periodontitis.
Multilevel Analysis of Non-surgical Periodontal Treatment of Patients with Generalised Aggressive Periodontitis.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate various factors affecting the clinical outcome of nonsurgical periodontal treatment and evaluate the treatment effects of adjunctive amoxicillin and metronidazole (AMX + MET) in patients with generalised aggressive periodontitis (GAgP).METHODS:Forty-two patients with GAgP were recruited and randomly assigned to three groups: scaling and root planing (SRP) only, AMX + MET after SRP, and AMX + MET during SRP. The patients were assessed every 2 months post-therapy. Periodontal clinical and subgingival microbiological parameters were analysed at baseline and 6 months post-therapy. The impacts of different covariates on pocket probing depth (PD) reduction were evaluated.RESULTS:A multilevel analysis revealed that 58% of the variability in PD reduction was attributed to site-level parameters, 27.3% to patient-level parameters and 18.7% to tooth-level parameters. Greater PD reduction can be expected at initially deeper PD sites and sites with intrabony defects, and in patients with adjunctive use of AMX + MET. Persistent Tannerella forsythia infection and tooth mobility after treatment were negatively associated with PD reduction.CONCLUSION:The clinical outcomes of nonsurgical periodontal treatment were mainly influenced by site-level parameters, and adjunctive use of AMX + MET can lead to better clinical results in patients with GAgP in a short time.
Application of Cefaclor in Orthodontics through Micro-Implant Anchorage in Patients with Periodontitis

Abstract:AIM: Chronic periodontitis leads to gingival swelling, hyperplasia, and tooth mobility, which affects orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the application of cefaclor in orthodontics through micro-implant anchorage in patients with periodontitis. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on patients with periodontitis who received micro-implant anchorage treatment in the department of orthodontics at the First People's Hospital of Yongkang City from July 2019 to January 2022. According to different treatment regimens, these patients were divided into the test group (patients receiving cefaclor and micro-implant anchorage treatment) and the control group (patients receiving micro-implant anchorage treatment only). The plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), and serum inflammatory factor levels were compared between the two groups after treatment. RESULTS: One hundred and five patients were included in the study, (44 males and 61 females, median age 21 [15–25] years), 51 in the cefaclor group and 54 in the no cefaclor group. After treatment, the PLI, GI, and SBI scores in the two groups were higher than those before treatment, and the levels of serum inflammatory markers significantly increased (p < 0.05). After treatment, the PLI, GI, and SBI scores in the test group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.001). The levels of serum interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, interleukin-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α were significantly lower in the test group, and the interleukin-2 level was higher in the test group (p 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Cefaclor and micro-implant anchorage have a good clinical effect on orthodontics in patients with periodontitis, improving periodontal health and reducing inflammatory response.

Abstract:Background: Chronic periodontitis is a prevalent inflammatory condition affecting the supporting structures of teeth. Adjunctive therapies to scaling and root planing (SRP) play a crucial role in enhancing treatment outcomes. This study aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness of subgingivally delivered 0.5% azithromycin gel and 1% chlorhexidine gel as adjuncts to SRP in the management of chronic periodontitis. Materials and methods: A comparative clinical evaluation was conducted involving 60 participants diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. They were randomly assigned to two groups: Group A received subgingival application of 0.5% azithromycin gel after SRP, whereas Group B received 1% chlorhexidine gel in a similar manner. Clinical parameters including probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival index (GI) were recorded at baseline and 3-month follow-up. Results: Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in clinical parameters after treatment. However, Group A exhibited a greater reduction in PPD (mean decrease of 2.5 mm) compared with Group B (mean decrease of 1.8 mm). Similarly, Group A showed a higher gain in CAL (mean gain of 2.3 mm) compared with Group B (mean gain of 1.5 mm). In addition, a significant reduction in GI was observed in both groups, with Group A showing slightly better outcomes. Conclusion: Subgingivally delivered 0.5% azithromycin gel demonstrated superior clinical efficacy as an adjunct to SRP in the treatment of chronic periodontitis compared with 1% chlorhexidine gel. The findings suggest that azithromycin gel may serve as a promising therapeutic option in managing periodontal disease.
Comparative Evaluation of Cost-Effectiveness, Clinical and Microbiological Parameters of Systemic Antibiotics Versus Local Drug Delivery in Aggressive Periodontitis

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is a biofilm-associated inflammatory disease of the periodontium in which microbial component contributes to its initiation that mainly includes chronic periodontitis and aggressive periodontitis (AgP).AIM: The present study aimed to ascertain a cost-effective treatment approach in AgP with minimal side effects by comparing systemic antibiotics (SA) and local drug delivery (LDD) as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP). Furthermore, the objectives were to analyze its effect on clinical and microbial parameters.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The participants were randomly divided into two groups A and B with eleven participants each. Group A was administered with Chlosite Gel [LDD] whereas group B with amoxicillin (AMX) 500 mg + metronidazole (MTZ) 400 mg [SA] thrice daily for 14 days. Clinical parameters such as plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), clinical attachment level (CAL), and pocket probing depth (PPD)] were recorded at baseline and three months postoperatively. Microbiological parameters i.e <i>Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans</i> (Aa) and <i>Porphyromonas gingivalis</i> (Pg) counts were also measured at baseline and after three months.RESULTS: Statistically significant difference was observed in all clinical parameters i.e. PI, GI, CAL, and PPD after three months follow-up in groups A and B. Reduced bacterial load i.e. Aa and Pg was significant at three months in both the groups. However, on comparing the total expenditure of both the groups, group A ranged from 920-1480 ₹ while in group B it ranged from 330-360 ₹. Hence, lower expenditure in group B (3.7 fold) compared to group A was evident.CONCLUSIONS: Cost-effective approach recommended in the present study is mainly to promote awareness among periodontal patients in the public and private sectors, who refuse to get dental treatment due to fear of high expenditure. This can be attained by incorporating SA as an alternative to LDD in AgP patients.

Abstract:A highly interactive computer program is described that enables the student to examine the dynamic performance of a synchronous generator described by a fourth-order model. The facilities provided in this program are intended to improve student understanding of physical system behavior. The program is written in FORTRAN with calls to the ZABLIB library and is implemented on a TI microcomputer that uses the MS-DOS operating system. The algorithms described in this program include eigenvalue tracking and time-response plotting. The different facilities and the associated menus and screens are presented and discussed. >

Abstract:Background: To our knowledge, to date, no studies have comprehensively assessed the changes occurring in the subgingival microbiome of young patients with periodontitis treated by means of mechanical and antibiotic therapy. Thus, this study aimed to use next-generation sequencing to evaluate the subgingival microbial composition of young patients with severe periodontitis treated with scaling and root planing and systemic metronidazole and amoxicillin. Methods: Subgingival samples from healthy individuals and shallow and deep sites from periodontitis patients were individually collected at baseline and 90 days post-treatment. The samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA-gene sequencing (MiSeq-Illumina) and QIIME pipeline. Differences between groups for the microbiological data were determined using principal coordinate analysis (PCoA), linear mixed models, and the PERMANOVA test. Results: One hundred samples were collected from 10 periodontitis patients and seven healthy individuals. PCoA analysis revealed significant partitioning between pre-and post-treatment samples. No major differences in the composition of the subgingival microbiota were observed between shallow and deep sites, at baseline or at 90-days post-treatment, and the microbiome of both site categories after treatment moved closer in similarity to that observed in periodontal health. Treatment significantly improved all clinical parameters and reduced the relative abundance of classical periodontal pathogens and of Fretibacterium fastidiosum, Eubacterium saphenum, Porphyromonas endodontalis, Treponema medium, Synergistetes, TM7, and Treponema spp, and increased that of Actinomyces, Rothia, Haemophilus, Corynebacterium, and Streptococci spp. Conclusion: Mechanical treatment associated with metronidazole and amoxicillin promoted a beneficial change in the microbiome of young individuals with severe periodontitis.
