Abstract:The biochemical effects of neodymium nitrate were studied by NMR spectroscopic-based metabonomic approach. Male Wistar rats were treated intraperitoneally with different doses(2, 10 and 50 mg/kg body weight) of Nd(NO3)(3). Liver samples from Nd3+-treated rats were analyzed either by 600 MHz H-1 MAS NMR techniques for intact liver or using high resolution( liquid state) H-1 NMR for liver chloroform/water/methanol extracts. All NMR spectra data were analyzed by pattern recognition using principal components analysis. Liver lesions induced by Nd(NO3)(3) were represented by increased triglyceride, leucine (isoleucine), lactate, alanine, pyruvate, phosphocholine and glucose concentration, and reduced trimethylamine N-oxide(TMAO) concentration in liver. Histopathology examination showed cell necrosis and inflammation in the liver of 50 mg/kg body weight dosed rats. It was demonstrated that neodymium nitrate could cause damages to rats liver by disturbing the energy metabolism (glucose and lipid metabolism) and amino acid metabolism in the liver.
N-acetylcysteine protects against neurodevelopmental injuries induced by methylmercury exposure during pregnancy and lactation

Abstract:As an extremely dangerous environmental contaminant, methylmercury (MeHg) results in detrimental health effects in human brain nervous system, one of its main targets. However, as a developmental toxicant, the brain of offspring is vulnerable to MeHg during pregnancy and lactation exposure. Unfortunately, mechanisms of neurodevelopmental injuries induced by MeHg have not been fully elucidated. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has been used for several decades as an antioxidant to antagonize oxidative stress. However, the molecular mechanisms of NAC alleviating MeHg-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity are not clear. Here, for evaluation of the dose-dependent effects of MeHg exposure on neurodevelopmental injuries of offspring, and the possible protective effects of NAC, the pregnant female mice were exposed to MeHg (4, 8, 12 mg/L, respectively) and NAC (50, 100, 150 mg/kg, respectively) from gestational day 1 (GD1) to postnatal day 21 (PND21). Our results indicated that administering MeHg caused behavioral impairment and neuronal injuries in the cerebral cortex of newborn mice. MeHg dose-dependently caused reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction and oxidative stress aggravation, together with expression of Nrf2, HO-1, Notch1, and p21 up-regulation, and CDK2 inhibition. NAC treatment dose-dependently antagonized MeHg-induced oxidative stress that may contribute to alleviating neurobehavioral and neurodevelopmental impairments. These results give insight into that NAC can protect against MeHg-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity by its antioxidation capacity.

Hepatoprotective Effect of Nicotinamide Versus Lead-Motivated Hepatotoxicity in Rats via Correcting Effect on Nuclear Factor-kβ Pathway and Glutathione Metabolism

Abstract:Lead (Pb) poisoning is one of the pivotal environmental issues and prompts liver dysfunction by elevating oxidative stress and inflammation. Nicotinamide (NA) deficiency enhances sensitivity to Pb toxicity. So, we investigated the effect of nicotinamide (NA) on the rat's liver histopathological and biochemical profiles in a rat model of Pb toxicity. Thirty-six rats were divided into four groups (nine rats at each): normal (N), lead toxicity (Pbt), and NA-treated N and Pbt groups. Treated groups took NA (180 mg/L in drinking water for one month). Pb intoxication was motivated in rats by acquiring 50 mg/L lead acetate in drinking water. Oxidative stress markers (advanced oxidation protein products and malondialdehyde), antioxidant markers (total glutathione, reduced glutathione to oxidized glutathione ratio, ferric ion reducing power, catalase, and paraoxonase-1), and inflammatory markers (hepatic nuclear factor-kβ expression, interleukin 1β level, and myeloperoxidase activity) in sera and liver homogenates were determined. In addition, the biochemical parameters of the liver function were measured. Finally, the liver of rats was evaluated by histopathological observation. NA corrected lead-persuaded biochemical and histopathological changes in the rat's liver. In addition, treatment decreased Pb, oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers in the sera and liver homogenates of N and Pbt groups. In addition, it elevated antioxidant markers (p < 0.001). NA prevented Pb-induced liver histopathological alternations and reduced liver dysfunction by reducing Pb, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Moreover, raising GSH/GSSG and diminishing the hepatic NF-kβ pathway are cardinal mechanisms of the treatment against Pb-motivated hepatotoxicity in rats.
Reduction of Neural Network Training Time Using anAdaptive Fuzzy Approach in Real Time Applications

Abstract:—A major problem of neural network in real-time applications is their long training time. We present a modification of the neural network (NN) for reduction of training time. Unlike traditional training time reduction algorithms, we propose a new Adaptive Fuzzy technique to create ensembles of neural network using multiple projections of the same data obtained from different NNs. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the optimization of training that occurs with the application of fuzzy controller theory to neural network. A fuzzy system is employed to control the learning parameters of a neural network to reduce the possibility of overshooting during the learning process. Hence, the learning time can be shortened. This paper compares the training efficiency and accuracy between a NN and a fuzzy controlled neural network, when they are required to carry out the same assignment. We justify the suitability of the proposed method by some experiments in soccer robot trajectory generation tasks; the resulting fuzzy controlled neural network indicates a significant reduction in the training time by 30%.

Abstract:Methylmercury (MeHg), an environmental toxicant primarily found in fish and seafood, poses a dilemma to both consumers and regulatory authorities, given the nutritional benefits of fish consumption versus the possible adverse neurological damage. Several studies have shown that MeHg toxicity is influenced by a number of biochemical factors, such as glutathione (GSH), fatty acids, vitamins, and essential elements, but the cellular mechanisms underlying these complex interactions have not yet been fully elucidated. The objective of this paper is to outline the cellular response to dietary nutrients, as well as to describe the neurotoxic exposures to MeHg. In order to determine the cellular mechanism(s) of toxicity, the effect of pretreatment with biochemical factors (e.g., N-acetyl cysteine, (NAC); diethyl maleate, (DEM); docosahexaenoic acid, (DHA); selenomethionine, SeM; Trolox) and MeHg treatment on intercellular antioxidant status, MeHg content, and other endpoints was evaluated. This paper emphasizes that the protection against oxidative stress offered by these biochemical factors is among one of the major mechanisms responsible for conferring neuroprotection. It is therefore critical to ascertain the cellular mechanisms associated with various dietary nutrients as well as to determine the potential effects of neurotoxic exposures for accurately assessing the risks and benefits associated with fish consumption.

Abstract:The simultaneous exposure and development (SED) process for a positive photoresist, when exposed to a uniform incident flux and to a real image with a nonuniform transverse intensity distribution, is mathematically simulated. The calculation is done for photoresist on optically matched and unmatched substrates while varying the incident radiation intensity, the initial resist thickness, and developer concentration. The results of the calculation and several experiments with SED produced gratings suggest that SED will yieldhigher contrast than the usual expose-and-then-develop (E-D) process. Furthermore, the standing wave effect in the photoresist films coated on reflective substrates is minimized and decreases with depth into the films when the SED process is used.

Abstract:Mercury chloride HgCl2, known scientifically as mercuric chloride, is a potent compound with a long history of use in various fields. It has been used in antiseptics and disinfectants, and even in the production of batteries and electroplating. Despite its utility, HgCl2 is highly toxic, posing significant health risks upon exposure. Chronic exposure can lead to severe neurological damages. Ginkgo biloba extract (EGB 761) is widely used for its neuroprotective properties, which include enhancing cognitive function and memory, particularly in age-related conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Ascorbic acid is vital for the synthesis of collagen, the repair of tissues, and the enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitters. As a powerful antioxidant, ascorbic acid helps protect cells from damage by free radicals. The present study was to evaluate the effects of Ginkgo biloba and L-Ascorbic Acid on Mercury Chloride (HgCl2)-Induced Oxidative stress and Neuroinflammation in Adult Male Wistar Rats for the period of 21 days. A total of 48 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 6 groups of 8 rats each. The control group received distilled water only all through the period of the experiment serving as the positive control. HgCl2 Only Group received (5 mg/kg HgCl2 Only), Group HgCl2 + A. A (LD) received (5 mg/kg HgCl2 + 100 mg/kg A. A (LD), Group HgCl2 + A. A (HD) received (5 mg/kg HgCl2 + 500 mg/kg A. A (HD), Group HgCl2 + EGB 761 (LD) received (5 mg/kg HgCl2 + 100 mg/kg EGB 761 (HD) and Group HgCl2+ EGB 761 (HD) received (5 mg/kg HgCl2 + 500 mg/kg EGB 761 (HD). At the end of the administration, the animals were then subjected to Y maze test and were humanely sacrificed on day 22 of the experiment and brain were excised. 1 g of tissues immediately homogenized, the homogenates were centrifuged and the supernatant was utilized to assay for antioxidants enzymes (MDA, SOD, CAT and GSH) using spectrophotometric and some inflammatory cytokines (TNF- α and IL-6) activity in brain tissue. The result showed significant (P<0.05) impairment in spatial learning in HgCl2 Only Group, Ascorbic acid (500 mg) treated animals showed significant (p < 0.05) improvement in the spatial learning deficits and the Ginkgo biloba (100 mg and 500 mg) treated group of animals showed more alternations. The result also showed a significant (p < 0.05) decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in HgCl2 group when compared to controls. Tissue catalase (CAT) and GSH activity decreased significantly (P < 0.05) in HgCl2 group when compared with control rats. Malondialdehyde concentrations increased significantly (P < 0.05) in HgCl2 treated group when compared to controls. Ascorbic acid (500 mg/kg), being a potent antioxidant caused significant (P < 0.05) decrease in MDA level, significant (P < 0.05) increase in CAT, SOD level thereby mitigating mercury-induced oxidative stress. The administration of Ginkgo Biloba Extract markedly ameliorated the toxic effects of HgCl2 on the previous parameters indicating also that Ascorbic acid and Ginkgo Biloba Extract has neuro protective property.

Abstract:Mercury chloride is a type of heavy metal that causes the formation of free radicals, causing hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and apoptosis. In this study, the effects of naringenin on oxidative stress and apoptosis in the liver and kidney of rats exposed to mercury chloride were investigated. In the study, 41 2‐month‐old male Wistar‐Albino rats were divided into five groups. Accordingly, group 1 was set as control group, group 2 as naringenin‐100, group 3 as mercury chloride, group 4 as mercury chloride + naringenin‐50, and group 5 as mercury chloride + naringenin‐100. For the interventions, 1 mL/kg saline was administered to the control, 0.4 mg/kg/day mercury (II) chloride to the mercury chloride groups by i.p., and 50 and 100 mg/kg/day naringenin prepared in corn oil to the naringenin groups by gavage. Abstract:The issue of MeHg contamination is a significant concern due to its detrimental impact on the environment. This study aimed to thoroughly investigate the effects of MeHg on neurodevelopmental biomarkers, as there is a lack of systematic reviews in this area. We conducted a comprehensive search of three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) and found 522 records, which were then meticulously reviewed by two independent reviewers. A total of 66 studies were included, with biomarkers related to oxidative stress, neurotransmission, inflammation, epigenetics, and apoptosis being the most prominent. The results of both in vitro and in vivo models indicate that antioxidant enzymes and other oxidative stress-related markers are indeed, altered following MeHg exposure. Moreover, MeHg exposure causes significant disruptions to neurotransmitter levels, activities of neurotransmitter synthesis enzymes, receptor densities, and proteins involved in synaptic function. Proinflammatory biomarkers are consistently overexpressed in both MeHg-treated cells and the brains of exposed rats. Furthermore, studies on DNA methylation and biomarker activity suggest that MeHg exposure may lead to neurotoxicity and neurodevelopmental issues via perturbations to epigenetic markers and the apoptosis pathway.

L-Ascorbic Acid 2-Phosphate Attenuates Methylmercury-Induced Apoptosis by Inhibiting Reactive Oxygen Species Accumulation and DNA Damage in Human SH-SY5Y Cells

Abstract:Methylmercury (MeHg) is a toxin that causes severe neuronal oxidative damage. As vitamin C is an antioxidant well-known to protect neurons from oxidative damage, our goal was to elucidate its protective mechanism against MeHg-induced oxidative stress in human neuroblastomas (SHSY5Y). We treated cells with MeHg, L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P), or both, and used MTT, flow cytometry, and Western blot analyses to assess cell damage. We found that MeHg significantly decreased the survival rate of SH-SY5Y cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner, increased apoptosis, downregulated PAR and PARP1 expression, and upregulated AIF, Cyto C, and cleaved Caspase-3 expression. A time course study showed that MeHg increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation; enhanced apoptosis; increased DNA damage; upregulated expression ofγH2A.X, KU70, 67 and 57 kDa AIF, CytoC, and cleaved Caspase-3; and downregulated expression of 116 kDa PARP1, PAR, BRAC1, and Rad51. Supplementation with AA2P significantly increased cell viability and decreased intrinsic ROS accumulation. It also reduced ROS accumulation in cells treated with MeHg and decreased MeHg-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, AA2P conversely regulated gene expression compared to MeHg. Collectively, we demonstrate that AA2P attenuates MeHg-induced apoptosis by alleviating ROS-mediated DNA damage and is a potential treatment for MeHg neurotoxicity.

Abstract:MeHg is a widely distributed environmental toxicant with harmful effects on the developing and adult nervous system. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic and protective efficacy of pollen grain in improving the toxic effects of MeHg, through the measurement of selected biochemical parameters linked to oxidative stress, energy metabolism, and neurotransmission in brain homogenates of male pups’ neonates. Forty healthy pregnant female rats were randomly divided into five groups, and after delivery, each group was consisting of 10 male neonates: (1) neonates delivered by control mothers, (2) neonates delivered by bee pollen treated mothers who received bee pollen at the dose of 200-mg/kg body weight from postnatal day 0 for 4 weeks, (3) neonates delivered by MeHg-treated mothers who received MeHg at the dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day via drinking water from gestational day 7 till postnatal day 7 of delivery, (4) therapeutic group: neonates delivered by MeHg-treated mothers followed by bee pollen treatment who received bee pollen at the dose of 200-mg/kg body weight from postnatal day 0 for 4 weeks, and (5) protective group: neonates delivered by MeHg and bee pollen-treated mothers. Mothers continued receiving the bee pollen at the same dose until day 21. Biochemical parameters linked to oxidative stress and energy metabolism and neurotransmission were investigated in brain homogenates of neonates from all the five groups. MeHg treatment showed an increase in oxidative stress markers like lipid peroxidation and catalase activity coupled with a non-significant decrease in glutathione level. Impaired energy metabolism was ascertained via the inhibition of creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activities. Dramatic decrease of Mg2+ and K+ concentrations confirmed the neurotransmission defect. Interestingly, the bee pollen treatment was highly effective in restoring the catalase, lactate dehydrogenase, and creatine kinase activities in addition to normalizing the levels of Mg2+, K+, lipid peroxidation, and glutathione. Overall, the exposure to MeHg during the developing brain stages was highly effective to show signs and symptoms of neuronal toxicity. Furthermore, it has been concluded that bee pollen can be used safely to ameliorate oxidative stress, poor detoxification as well as metal ion defects, and neuronal death as a critical mechanisms involved in the etiology of numerous neurological disorders.

Abstract:The administration of NAD+ precursors is a potential approach to protect against liver damage and metabolic dysfunction. However, the effectiveness of different NAD+ precursors in alleviating metabolic disorders is still poorly elucidated. The current study was performed to compare the effectiveness of four different NAD+ precursors, including nicotinic acid (NA), niacinamide (NAM), nicotinamide riboside (NR), and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) in alleviating high-glucose-induced injury to hepatocytes in a fish model, Megalobrama amblycephala. An in vitro high-glucose model was successfully established to mimic hyperglycemia-induced damage to the liver, which was evidenced by the reduced cell viability, the increased transaminase activity, and the depletion of cellular NAD+ concentration. The NAD+ precursors all improved cell viability, with the maximal effect observed in NR, which also had the most potent NAD+ boosting capacity and a significant Sirt1/3 activation effect. Meanwhile, NR presented distinct and superior effects in terms of anti-oxidative stress, inflammation inhibition, and anti-apoptosis compared with NA, NAM, and NMN. Furthermore, NR could effectively benefit glucose metabolism by activating glucose transportation, glycolysis, glycogen synthesis and the pentose phosphate pathway, as well as inhibiting gluconeogenesis. Moreover, an oral gavage test confirmed that NR presented the most potent effect in increasing hepatic NAD+ content and the NAD+/NADH ratio among four NAD+ precursors. Together, the present study results demonstrated that NR is most effective in attenuating the high-glucose-induced injury to hepatocytes in fish compared to other NAD+ precursors.

Abstract:Methylmercury (MeHg), a potent neurotoxic substance, causes adverse health outcomes by modulating metabolites through altered gut microbiota patterns. Among the many metabolites, neurotransmitters play a particularly important role in the nervous system and behavior. Resveratrol (RSV) has been investigated as an antiaging, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and neuroprotective agent. The current study evaluated that RSV is protective of neurodevelopmental toxicity induced by MeHg and further explored the underlying mechanisms. Sprague–Dawley rats were treated with 1.2 mg/kg/d of MeHg, and the effects were evaluated after supplementation with RSV (20 mg/kg/d). The results indicated that MeHg had adverse effects on early neurodevelopmental indicators in the experimental group offspring as compared to control pups. Interestingly, RSV significantly improved the MeHg‐induced delays in the neurobehavioral reflexes and reduced the total mercury (THg) concentration in the colons of the offspring rats. In agreement, RSV administration improved the gut microbiota diversity and structure by increasing the abundance of probiotics and upregulating the expression of tight junction proteins. It also ameliorated the MeHg‐induced abnormalities in the expression profiles of neurotransmitters. Furthermore, eight key bacteria that were strongly linked with the neurotransmitters and neuroreflex parameters were identified. Taken together, these results demonstrate that RSV treatment effectively reduces the occurrence of neurodevelopmental toxicity caused by perinatal MeHg exposure by modulating the intestinal flora and neurotransmitter metabolism. These findings provide a new therapeutic approach for treating MeHg‐induced neurotoxicity.

Abstract:Exposure to mercury and its organic form methylmercury (MeHg), is of great concern for the developing nervous system. Despite available literature on MeHg neurotoxicity, there is still uncertainty about its mechanisms of action and the doses that trigger developmental effects. Our study combines two alternative methodologies, the human neural stem cells (NSC) and the zebrafish (ZF) embryo, to address the neurotoxic effects of early exposure to nanomolar concentrations of MeHg. Our results show linear or nonmonotonic (hormetic) responses depending on studied parameters. In ZF, we observed a hormetic response in locomotion and larval rotation, but a concentration-dependent response for sensory organ size and habituation. We also observed a possible delayed response as MeHg had greater effects on larval activity at 5 days than at 24 hours. In NSC cells, some parameters show a clear dose dependence, such as increased apoptosis and differentiation to glial cells or decreased neuronal precursors; while others show a hormetic response: neuronal differentiation or cell proliferation. This study shows that the ZF model was more susceptible than NSC to MeHg neurotoxicity. The combination of different models has improved the understanding of the underlying mechanisms of toxicity and possible compensatory mechanisms at the cellular and organismal level.

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Plays a Relevant Role in Heart Toxicity Caused by MeHg

Abstract:The effects of methylmercury (MeHg) on exposed populations are a public health problem. In contrast to widely studied neurological damage, few cardiovascular changes have been described. Our group evaluated the cardiotoxicity of a cumulative dose of 70 mg.kg−1 fractioned over a 14-day exposure period in mice (MeHg70 group). The effects of MeHg on proteins relevant to cardiac mitochondrial function were also investigated. The results obtained showed a reduction in oxygen consumption in the two settings. In cardiac tissue samples in oxygraphy studies, this reduction was related to a lower efficiency of complexes II and V, which belong to the oxidative phosphorylation system. In vivo, mice in the MeHg70 group presented lower oxygen consumption and running tolerance, as shown by ergometric analyses. Cardiac stress was evident in the MeHg70 group, as indicated by a marked increase in the level of the mRNA encoding atrial natriuretic peptide. Electrocardiogram studies revealed a lower heart rate at rest in the animals from the MeHg70 group, as well as prolonged left ventricular depolarisation and repolarisation. Through echocardiographic analysis, reductions in the left ventricular ejection fraction and left ventricular wall thickness of approximately 10% and 20%, respectively, were detected. These results indicate that the oral intake of MeHg can decrease cardiac function and oxidative metabolism. This finding highlights the importance of monitoring MeHg levels in humans and animals in contaminated areas, as well as periodically carrying out cardiac function tests.

Abstract:Mercury (Hg) and vitamin A (VitA) are two environmental factors with potential health impacts, especially during pregnancy and early childhood. Fish and seafood may present elevated levels of methylmercury (MeHg), the major Hg derivative, and VitA. This study aimed to evaluate the transgenerational effects of exposure to MeHg and/or VitA on epigenetic and toxicological parameters in a Wistar rat model. Our findings revealed persistent toxicological effects in generations F1 and F2 following low/mild doses of MeHg and/or VitA exposure during dams' (F0) gestation and breastfeeding. Toxicological effects observed in F2 included chronic DNA damage, bone marrow toxicity, altered microglial content, reduced neuronal signal, and diminished male longevity. Sex-specific patterns were also observed. Co-exposure to MeHg and VitA showed both synergistic and antagonistic effects. Additionally, the study demonstrated that MeHg and VitA affected histone methylation and caused consistent effects in F2. While MeHg exposure has been associated with transgenerational inheritance effects in other organisms, this study provides the first evidence of transgenerational inheritance of MeHg and VitA-induced toxicological effects in rodents. Although the exact mechanism is not yet fully understood, these findings suggest that MeHg and VitA may perpetuate their impacts across generations. The study highlights the need for remedial policies and interventions to mitigate the potential health problems faced by future generations exposed to MeHg or VitA. Further research is warranted to investigate the transgenerational effects beyond F2 and determine the matrilineal or patrilineal inheritance patterns.

Abstract:Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), a key precursory metabolite of NAD + , has been shown to elevate the cellular level of NAD + and ameliorate various age-related diseases. Despite these progresses, systemic evaluation pertaining to the subacute toxicity of NMN remains to be determined. Here, we examine the subacute toxicity of NMN in mice and beagle dogs. Mice were gavaged with a saturated concentration of NMN solution at the maximum intragastric dose once or twice per day for 7 days. Dogs were gavaged twice per day for 14 days. In mice, NMN administrated once per day for 7 days is well tolerated with minimal deleterious effects. Upon higher dosage, we observe slightly increased level of alamine aminotransferase, while other biomarkers remain unchanged. Consistently, administration of NMN in beagle dogs only results in mild increases in creatinine and uric acid. Together, our study highlights the safety of NMN, providing a possible safe dose range for oral administration of NMN.

Abstract:Naringenin (NRG) is one of the most important naturally occurring flavonoids, predominantly found in some edible fruits, such as citrus species and tomatoes. It has several biological activities, such as antioxidant, antitumor, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiadipogenic, and cardioprotective effects. The heavy metal lead is toxic and triggers oxidative stress, which causes toxicity in many organs, including the liver and brain. This study explored the potential protective role of NRG in hepato- and neurotoxicity caused by lead acetate in rats. Four groups of ten male albino rats were included: group 1 was a control, group 2 was orally treated with lead acetate (LA) at a dose of 500 mg/kg BW, group 3 was treated with naringenin (NRG) at a dose of 50 mg/kg BW, and group 4 was treated with 500 mg/kg LA and 50 mg/kg NRG for 4 weeks. Then, blood was taken, the rats were euthanized, and liver and brain tissues were collected. The findings revealed that LA exposure induced hepatotoxicity with a significant increase in liver function markers (p < 0.05). In addition, albumin and total protein (TP) and the albumin/globulin ratio (A/G ratio) (p 0.05) was unaltered. LA also induced oxidative damage, demonstrated by a significant increase in malonaldehyde (MDA) (p < 0.05), together with a pronounced antioxidant system reduction (SOD, CAT, and GSH) (p < 0.05) in both liver and brain tissues. Inflammation of the liver and brain caused by LA was indicated by increased levels of nuclear factor kappa beta (NF-κβ) and caspase-3, (p < 0.05), and the levels of B-cell lymphocyte-2 (BCL-2) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) (p < 0.05) were decreased. Brain tissue damage induced by LA toxicity was demonstrated by the downregulation of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), and creatine kinase (CK-BB) (p < 0.05). Additionally, the liver and brain of LA-treated rats displayed notable histopathological damage. In conclusion, NRG has potential hepato- and neuroprotective effects against lead acetate toxicity. However, additional research is needed in order to propose naringenin as a potential protective agent against renal and cardiac toxicity mediated by lead acetate.
