Abstract:Electrosynthesis of selenylated‐oxazolone derivatives via cascade selenylation/cyclization of ynamides was disclosed. A series of diaryl diselenides, dialkyl diselenides, and heteroaryl‐substituted ynamides was tolerated in this protocol and delivered 4‐selenyloxazolones in 28‐83% yield. The scale‐up reaction and the oxidation of selenylated‐oxazolones was performed to showcase the practicability of this method. Furthermore, mechanistic experiments indicated that a cationic pathway instead of aradical pathway was probably involved.

Abstract:Herein, we reported an efficient and straightforward method to realize desaturated β-C(sp3)-H sulfonylation and phosphonylation of cyclic amines driven by electrochemistry using catalytic amounts of CP2Fe as the redox mediator. This protocol which had good functional group compatibility, provided the desired enaminyl sulfone and enaminyl phosphine oxide products with high chemo- and regio-selectivity under mild conditions. Several mechanistic studies have suggested that cyclic amines underwent multiple single-electron oxidation and deprotonation processes, followed by a capture step involving either a sulfonyl radical or a phosphonyl radical, ultimately leading to the desired products.

Abstract:An organoselenium-enabled radical relay Azidation-carbocyclization reaction for the preparation of azide-substituted quinoline-2,4-diones was developed. A series of previously unknown structurally diverse azide- substituted quinoline-2,4-diones were obtained under metal-free and room-temperature conditions. The key features of this reaction are a broad substrate scope, amenability to gram-scale synthesis, and easy product derivatization. Preliminary mechanistic studies support participation of an organoselenium species in a radical relay pathway.

Abstract:Areneselenenic acids (ArSeOH), readily generated from diaryl diselenides and H2O2 by in situ oxidation, were found to be effective and reusable catalysts for dehydration of aldoximes, leading to a practical and scalable preparation of useful organonitriles under mild conditions.

Abstract:We have developed an approach for the construction of naphthofuran‐2‐carboxaldehyde derivatives by utilizing the synergy of electrochemical oxidation and organo‐selenium catalysis at room temperature. The compatibility of various functional groups and scalability of this protocol demonstrate the practicality of the electrochemical strategy. The synthetic utility of this strategy is furthermore demonstrated by synthesizing diversified molecules through downstream transformations.

Abstract:A novel method for metal-free oxothiolation of ynamides to construct oxazolidine-2,4-diones bearing sulfur-substituted quaternary carbon atoms has been developed. It represents a rare C-O bond cleavage of ynamides, as well as a facile and tandem approach for the formation of C-O, C-S, and C-Cl bonds. This redox-neutral protocol can be applied to the synthesis of multisubstituted oxazolidine-2,4-diones with good chemoselectivity and good yields of isolated products under mild conditions.

Abstract:The synthesis of unsymmetrical diorganyl selanes was accomplished under electrochemical conditions in an undivided cell utilizing a magnesium cathode and a carbon anode made out of aryl and alkyl iodides and diselanes. This electrochemical cross-electrophile coupling (eXEC) was accomplished using a simple nickel catalyst formed in situ out of Ni(acac)2 and 2,2′-bipyridine in DMF at ambient temperatures. The reaction showed good functional group compatibility, and heteroaryl iodides, such as thiophene or pyridine derivatives, were well accepted.

Abstract:N-Arenesulfonyl α-hydroxyamides are conveniently synthesized from N-arylethynylsulfonamides (ynamides) via oxidation with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in the presence of equivalent of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH) followed by treatment with water. In this reaction, ynamides are activated by protonation with TfOH and then undergo double DMSO nucleophilic addition and subsequent hydrolysis. Investigations on the substrate scope indicate N-arenesulfonyl and arylethynyl substituted ynamides proceed the oxidation well. Compared to the previous methods, the current method realizes the direct conversion from N-arylethynylsulfonamides to N-arenesulfonyl α-hydroxyamides with mild DMSO as a nucleophilic oxidant in the presence of strong acid trifluoromethanesulfonic acid.

Abstract:An electrochemical oxidative cross-coupling strategy for the synthesis of N-sulfenylsulfoximines from sulfoximines and thiols was accomplished, giving diverse N-sulfenylsulfoximines in moderate to good yields. Moreover, this strategy can be extended to construct the N-P bond of N-phosphinylated sulfoximines. With electrons as reagents, the oxidative dehydrogenation cross-coupling reaction proceeds smoothly in the absence of traditional redox reagents.

Abstract:The tandem cyclization of acrylamide with diselenides facilitated by electrochemical oxidation was successfully developed. This strategy provided an environmentally friendly method for the construction of C–Se bond. A series of seleno oxindole products with pharmacological activity was obtained and forged by using this well‐designed tandem cyclization strategy. The antitumor activity of the compounds in vitro was also screened through MTT assay. Results showed that the seleno oxindole products exhibited better antitumor activity than other oxindole skeletons

Abstract:Cyanoimines (C=N‐CN) are eliciting increased attention because of their extensive presence in medicine and biologically active molecules. This study demonstrated the use of the electrochemical oxidative carbon‐atom multifunctionalization and N‐cyanation of imine to synthesize (Z)‐N′‐cyano‐N‐carbamimidothioate. This multicomponent reaction showed good step economy, thereby providing a tool to construct various cyanoimines. Moreover, good functional‐group tolerance and large‐scale synthesis were achieved under metal‐free and external‐oxidant‐free conditions, indicating the potential applicability of this methodology.

Abstract:A mild and efficient protocol for sulfonylation of 8‐aminoquinolines, naphthylamides and anilides with sodium sulfinates by anodic oxidation at room temperature was developed. In the absence of any additional catalyst and oxidant, a series of sulfonylated products were achieved in good to excellent yields. This proposal features good water tolerance, excellent selectivity and broad functional group compatibility. An efficient protocol for sulfonylation of N‐arylamides/amine with sulfinate salts has been developed via anodic oxidation at room temperature in an undivided cell.

Abstract:An efficient, green and one-pot strategy for the concise synthesis of diverse selenyl imidazo[2,1- b ]thiazinones from diselenides, acryloyl chlorides and 2-mercaptobenzimidazoles/2-mercaptoimidazoles via electrochemical oxidative three-component tandem reactions in the absence of transition metals, and oxidants has been developed. The electrochemical method have the advantages of good functional group tolerance, readily available raw materials, high step economy, and mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic studies indicated that selenium cations formed via direct electrochemical oxidation of diselenides may be involved as important intermediates in this process.

Abstract:Ynamides are electron-rich alkynes with unique reactivities and act as flexible building blocks in organic synthesis. Therefore, the investigation for transformation of ynamides with exceptional selectivity and efficiency is attractive and interesting. Herein, we report an oxoarylation of ynamides with N-aryl hydroxamic acids. In the presence of catalytic Cu(OTf)2, both the terminal and internal ynamides could undergo an addition/[3,3] sigmatropic rearrangement cascade with N-aryl hydroxamic acids to achieve oxoarylation, along with providing selective entry to (ortho-amino)arylacetamides and oxindoles. Moreover, deuterium-labelling reaction and gram-scale reaction were conducted to probe the mechanism and showcase the scalability.

Abstract:A direct selenylation of N‐arylsulfonamides and anilides using environmentally friendly and readily available copper promoted assisted by amide is presented. This method provided convenient access for various selenylation reactions, demonstrating a wide range of substrates and strong tolerance to various functional groups. According to the selection of reaction substrates, products can be isolated to obtain a regioselectivity ortho‐, para‐, or unprecedented ortho, para‐diselenylation products. Such transformation was elucidated by a proposed copper‐promoted amide‐assisted radical mechanism.

Abstract:A direct electrochemical oxidative cross dehydrogenative coupling reaction between enamines and thiophenols has been demonstrated. This strategy provides an effective, more economical, and environmentally friendly method to construct the C(sp(2))-S bond in the absence of chemical oxidants and transition metal catalysts. A variety of enamines and (hetero)aryl thiols are compatible with this transformation to afford the corresponding vinyl sulfides in moderate to excellent yields under undivided electrolytic cell conditions.
