Abstract:We present a facile two-step strategy to fabricate a novel nanoporous core-shell Cu@Cu2O nanocomposite photocatalyst. The photocatalyst was synthesized via the combination of dealloying of the as-milled Al66.7Cu33.3 (at.%) precursor powders in alkaline media with subsequent surface oxidation in air. The microstructure of the as-prepared photocatalyst has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results show that the as-prepared photocatalyst exhibits an open, bicontinuous interpenetrating ligament (ca. 30 nm)-channel (ca. 15 nm) structure, and is comprised of Cu (core) and Cu2O (shell) phases. Methyl orange (MO) was used as the model pollutant, and photodegradation experiments were monitored by UV-vis spectrophotometry. The nanoporous core-shell Cu@Cu2O photocatalyst shows excellent photocatalytic activity towards the degradation of MO under sunlight. The MO degradation rate can reach as high as 8.04 mg min(-1) g(cat)(-1). In addition, the influence of additive amounts of photocatalyst and initial concentrations of MO on the photodegradation process has been investigated. The photodegradation mechanism of the as-prepared photocatalyst has also been discussed.
Novel C3N4–CdS Composite Photocatalysts with Organic–inorganic Heterojunctions: in Situ Synthesis, Exceptional Activity, High Stability and Photocatalytic Mechanism

Abstract:Novel organic-inorganic composites composed of two visible light responsive semiconductors of graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) and CdS were successfully synthesized via an "in situ" precipitation-deposition method. The C3N4-CdS heterostructures were fabricated by depositing CdS nanoparticles onto the surface of C3N4. The morphology and optical property of compsoites can be tuned by adjusting the mass ratio of C3N4-CdS, which determines the enhanced level of photocatalytic activity. The optimum activity of 0.7C(3)N(4)-0.3CdS photocatalyst is almost 20.5 and 3.1 times higher than those of individual C3N4 and CdS for the degradation of methyl orange, and 41.6 and 2.7 fold higher for the degradation of 4-aminobenzoic acid, respectively. Moreover, its activity is also much higher than those of C3N4-TiO2 and CdS-TiO2 composites, as well as N-modified TiO2. Of special significance is that the present C3N4-CdS composites exhibit high stabilities under illumination, in contrast with CdS. The enhancement in both performance and stability should be assigned to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charges originating from the well-matched overlapping band-structures and closely contacted interfaces. Our work highlights that coupling semiconductors with well-matched band energies provides a flexible route to improve the activity and stability of photocatalysts, and gives ideas for the design and synthesis of other highly active and stable materials.
Efficient Degradation of Orange II by Core Shell CoFe2O4-CeO2 Nanocomposite with the Synergistic Effect from Sodium Persulfate.

Abstract:Novel core shell CoFe2O4-CeO2 (CoFe-Ce) nanocomposite was synthesized and investigated as an efficient photocatalyst to activate sodium persulfate (Na2S2O8, PS) for orange II (OII) degradation. The CoFe-Ce nano composite was successfully designed and synthesized by a facile hydrothermal reaction followed by calcination and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Compared with pure CoFe2O4 and CeO2, the photocatalytic efficiency of CoFe-Ce nanocomposite was significantly improved. Under the irradiation of visible light, the catalytic degradation efficiency of orange II could reach to 98.5% within 60 min. Additionally, the as-prepared material could be recycled for at least five times using magnetic separation ability of the nanocomposite, and during the cycling the dye degradation rate was almost unchanged. The active species produced during the degradation were studied by classical quenching experiments, and the different types of free radicals produced in the system were further confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. This novel nanocomposite is ex- pected to have potential application for degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater by utilizing solar energy.
Magnetic Ternary Hybrid Composites as an Efficient Photocatalyst for Degradation of Acid Orange 7 Dye

Abstract:Based on the photocatalytic activity and magnetic nature of magnetite and goethite, as well as the oxygen storage characteristic of cerianite, a magnetic ternary hybrid composite including cubic CeO2, cubic Fe3O4 and orthorhombic FeOOH, designated as Fe3O4/FeOOH/CeO2, was successfully synthesized with different Ce:Fe molar ratios using a simple hydrothermal route without subsequent calcination process, and employed as photocatalysts for the degradation of Acid Orange 7 (AO7) dye. The absorption range of light by the Fe3O4/FeOOH/CeO2 composites was broadened, and the intensity was enhanced. Furthermore, there existed a possibility of hybridization and doping among the three crystalline structures, with the elements Ce, Fe and O exhibiting a uniform distribution, significantly enhancing the photocatalytic efficiency of the Fe3O4/FeOOH/CeO2 composites in promoting the photodegradation of AO7. The magnetic response behaviors of hybrid composites synthesized with different Ce:Fe molar ratios were investigated. The adsorptive degradation of AO7 in darkness and the photocatalytic degradation of AO7 under UV light illumination were evaluated. Moreover, ten cycling runs of the photocatalytic degradation of AO7 under simulated UV illumination of Fe3O4/FeOOH/CeO2 synthesized with a Ce:Fe molar ratio of 1:15 were performed. The hybrid ternary composites were proved to have excellent magnetic sensitivity, exhibited outstanding photocatalytic activities and demonstrated remarkable stability. It is anticipated that magnetic Fe3O4/FeOOH/CeO2 ternary hybrid composites may have potential applications in the treatment of organic dye sewage.

Abstract:A magnetic porous composite catalyst has been synthesized from CoFe2O4 and CuS. Its degradation performance towards organic pollutants in a heterogeneous photocatalytic system has been compared with those of the in-dividual photocatalysts and those of individual chemocatalysis systems. Orange II served as a target contaminant. Persulfate and catalyst were combined under visible light conditions to achieve degradation of the organic pollutant, whereupon the degradation efficiency reached up to 97 %. The catalyst has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, Mott-Schottky analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and solid-state UV/Vis spectrophotometry. The influences of pH and different catalyst and persulfate loadings in the system have been studied. The results of quenching experiments showed non-radical degradation to be a major pathway, with singlet molecular oxygen (1O2) and photogenerated holes (h+) as the critical reactive species. Besides, the magnetic properties of the catalyst are conducive to its recycling, and it still showed high degradation efficiency after three cycles.

Abstract:A novel magnetically recoverable AgBr@Ag3PO4/Fe3O4 hybrid was prepared by a simple deposition-precipitation approach and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The results revealed that the photocatalytic activity and stability of AgBr@Ag3PO4/Fe3O4 composite toward decomposition of methyl orange (MO) dye were superior to those of pure Ag3PO4 under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity enhancement of AgBr@Ag3PO4/Fe3O4 is closely related to the efficient separation of electron-hole pairs derived from the matching band potentials between Ag3PO4 and AgBr, as well as the good conductivity of Fe3O4. Moreover, the photocatalyst could be easily separated by applying an external magnetic field due to its magnetic property. The quenching effects of different scavengers proved that active h(+) and O-center dot(2)- played the major role for the MO degradation. This work would provide new insight for the construction of visible light responsible photocatalysts with high performance, good stability, and recoverability.

Abstract:To solve the emerging aromatic organic pollutants in aqueous environment, in this study, the efficient recyclable core-shell structured photocatalyst Fe3O4@PDA/CuS was prepared by in situ reduction method. Firstly, Fe3O4 as cores were prepared to provide magnetic recovery. Through the self-polymerization of dopamine (DA), polydopamine (PDA) was coated on Fe3O4 as shells to protect Fe3O4 cores. Then, Cu2+ coordinated with PDA on the surface of Fe3O4@PDA and in situ reduced by Na2S to obtain core-shell structural Fe3O4@PDA/CuS with CuS uniformly growing on the PDA. CuS with a narrow band gap will endow Fe3O4 @PDA/CuS excellent photocatalytic performance for organic dyes degradation. The decomposition rate of methylene blue (MB) reached to 92.1 % within 180 min under visible light irradiation of Fe3O4@PDA/CuS as photocatalyst without any cocatalyst. When pH= 10, the decomposition rate of MB can reach to 92.7 % in 60 min, indicated Fe3O4@PDA/CuS was more suitable for use under alkaline conditions. The capture experiment determined that·OH was the main active substance. This also explained that under alkaline conditions, numerous OH- was conducive to the formation of ·OH, thus accelerated the degradation rate. And the decomposition rate of MB by Fe3O4@PDA/CuS can still reach 83.95 % after reused three times.

Abstract:Low-cost catalysts with high activity and stability toward producing strongly oxidative species are extremely desirable, but their development still remains a big challenge. Here, we report a novel strategy for the synthesis of a magnetic CoFe2O4/C3N4 hybrid via a simple self-assembly method. The CoFe2O4/C3N4 was utilized as a photo-Fenton-like catalyst for degradation of organic dyes in the presence of H2O2 under natural indoor light irradiation, a green and energy-saving approach for environmental cleaning. It was found the CoFe2O4/C3N4 hybrid with a CoFe2O4: g-C3N4 mass ratio of 2:1 can completely degrade Rhodamine B nearly 100 % within 210 min under room-light irradiation. The effects of the amount of H2O2 (0.01–0.5 M), initial dye concentration (5–20 mg/L), solution pH (3.08-10.09), fulvic acid concentration (5–50 mg/L), different dyes and catalyst stability on the organic dye degradation were investigated. The introduction of CoFe2O4 on g-C3N4 produced an enhanced separation efficiency of photogenerated electron − hole pairs by a Z-scheme mechanism between the interfaces of g-C3N4 and CoFe2O4, leading to an excellent activity as compared with either g-C3N4 or CoFe2O4 and their mixture. This study demonstrates an efficient way to construct the low-cost magnetic CoFe2O4/C3N4 heterojunction as a typical Z-scheme system in environmental remediation.

In situ reduction for synthesis of nano-sized Cu2O particles on MgCuAl-LDH layers for degradation of orange II under visible light

Abstract:Cu2O-MgAl-LDH composites were synthesized from MgCuAl-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as precursors using ascorbic acid for reduction of Cu2+. The synthesized precursor materials and composites were characterized by XRD, TEM, XRF, XPS and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results showed that the Cu2O nanoparticles were evenly distributed on the LDH nano-sheets, which greatly improved the catalytic property of Cu2O. For example, the Cu2O-Mg7Al5-LDH composite removed about 90% of Orange II while pure Cu2O removed only about 70% of the dye through photocatalytic degradation. The Cu2O-LDH composites showed very high efficiency in degrading Orange II dye because of uniform distribution of Cu2O nanoparticles on the surfaces of LDH with less amount of copper than in pure Cu2O. The Cu2O-LDH composites developed here are potential photocatalysts for dye degradation in water purification.
Spinel-type Cobalt-Manganese Oxide Catalyst for Degradation of Orange II Using a Novel Heterogeneous Photo-Chemical Catalysis System

Abstract:A spinel-type Co-Mn oxide was designed and synthesized through a two-step oxidation-precipitation method at modest temperatures. The Co-Mn oxide was applied as the catalyst in the presence of NaHSO3 under visible light irradiation in order to establish the superiority of heterogeneous photo-chemical catalysis system. In the above system, the Co-Mn catalyst exhibited much better catalytic capability than that in either single photocatalysis or chemocatalysis system, implying that the Co-Mn catalyst could well combine photocatalysis and chemocatalysis to obtain the highest degradation efficiency of up to 94% within 40 min when using Orange II as the target pollutant. Recycling experiments results showed that the as-obtained catalyst has excellent stability and recyclability. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the as-obtained Co-Mn catalyst had a cubic MnCo2O4.5 spinel structure. Because of relatively low temperature (180 degrees C) synthesis, the catalyst was formed with nanoparticles (25-65 nm) and high specific surface area as confirmed by SEM and BET analyses. XPS indicated the presence of both manganese and cobalt species that serve as reactive sites for the catalytic oxidation reactions. Rational degradation mechanisms responsible for superior catalytic activity and durability were proposed based on a series of experimental results. The active species such as Mn(III), holes and sulfate and hydroxyl radicals were proposed to be responsible for the outstanding degradation results.

Abstract:Photo-Fenton-like catalysis allows development of novel advanced oxidation technology with promising application in wastewater treatment. In this work, carbon dots (CDs) were intercalated between CuO nanoparticles and coralloid flower-like graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) to fabricate a ternary CuO/CDs/g-C 3 N 4 hybrid for synergetic visible-light-driven photo-Fenton-like oxidation. The CuO/CDs/g-C 3 N 4 hybrid showed remarkable degradation efficiency towards recalcitrant organic contamination, excellent tolerance to realistic environmental conditions, exceptional stability and wide universality, declaring great potential for practical applications. •OH and •O 2 − radicals were demonstrated to be the primary contributors in the photo-Fenton-like system. Mechanism studies reveal dual charge transfer pathways in the Z-scheme CuO/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction assisted by interfacial electron transmission bridges of CDs, which can simultaneously boost the reduction of Cu 2+ to Cu + in the Fenton-like cycle and accelerate the Z-scheme electron flow from CuO to g-C 3 N 4 , leading to synergistic enhancement of the catalytic performance. This work would afford a feasible strategy to develop reinforced solar energy-assisted photo-Fenton-like catalysis systems for water remediation.

Abstract:A novel magnetically-separable visible-light-induced photocatalyst, Cu2O/chitosan-Fe3O4 nanocomposite (Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NC), was prepared via a facile one-step precipitation-reduction process by using magnetic chitosan chelating copper ions as precursor. The structure and properties of Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NCs were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, HRTEM, SAED, EDS, BET, VSM, XPS and UV-vis/DRS. The photocatalytic activity of Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NCs was evaluated by decolorization of reactive brilliant red X-3B (X-3B) under visible light irradiation. The characterization results indicated that Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NCs exhibited relatively large specific surface areas and special dimodal pore structure because Cu2O was wrapped in chitosan matrix embedded with Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The tight combination of magnetic Fe3O4 and semiconductor Cu2O through chitosan made the nanocomposites show good superparamagnetism and photocatalytic activity. It was found that X-3B could be decolorized more efficiently in acidic media than in neutral or alkaline media. The decolorization of X-3B was ascribed to the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and adsorption. Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NCs could be easily separated from the solution by an external magnet, and the decolorization rates of X-3B were still above 87% after five reaction cycles, indicating that Cu2O/CS-Fe3O4 NCs had excellent reusability and stability. Preparation of magnetic recoverable nanosize Cu-Fe2O3/Fe photocatalysts

Abstract:Iron based catalysts generally have the advantage of the easily operated magnetically recovery from application sites. In the present work, paramagnetic iron and copper core-shell nanoparticles having the iron fractions (X(Fe) = Fe/(Cu+Fe)) of 0.33-1.0 were prepared and characterized by in situ synchrotron X-ray absorption and scattering spectroscopy. During the temperature-programmed carbonization (TPC) of Cu(2+)- and Fe(3+)-β-cyclodextrin (CD) complexes, a rapid reduction of Cu(II) occurs at about 453 K together with a growth of the metallic copper (Cu). Iron proceeds in the distinct growth path. At 453-513 K, the Fe(III) → Fe(II) → Fe consecutive reduction is observed. The unreduced Fe(III) (7-13%) is coated on the surfaces of the Fe nanoparticles (as Fe2O3/Fe). Growth of the Fe nanoparticle is inhibited by the surface Fe2O3, while the steady growth in Cu is observed. The Cu has a size range of 14-18 nm in diameter, compared to the small Fe2O3/Fe ones (3-6 nm). Under the UV-visible light irradiation for four hours, methylene blue can be photocatalytically degraded (>90%) by the (Cu-Fe2O3/Fe)@C. The (Cu-Fe2O3/Fe)@C photocatalysts can effectively oxidize dye molecules, providing a promising alternative for dye degradation using solar energy. Recovery of the (Cu-Fe2O3/Fe)@C photocatalysts can be attained by applying external magnetic field to trap the ferromagnetic Cu-Fe2O3/Fe nanoparticles, which suggests an economically attractive process, especially applied in photocatalytic degradation of dye-contaminated wastewater.
0D/2D dual Fenton α-Fe2O3/Fe-doped g-C3N4 photocatalyst and the synergistic photo-Fenton catalytic mechanism insight

Abstract:A novel dual Photo-Fenton photocatalyst Fe2O3-Fe-CN with excellent Fe(III)/Fe(II) conversion efficiency and trace metal ion leaching rate has been fabricated by in-situ deposition of α-Fe2O3 quantum dots on ultrathin porous Fe-doped carbon nitride (Fe-CN) nanosheets. The iron species in Fe-CN and α-Fe2O3 QDs constitute a mutually reinforcing dual Photo-Fenton effect. The 4% Fe2O3-Fe-CN showed superior performance with kobs values 8.60 and 4.80 folders greater than pure CN and Fe-CN, respectively. The synergistic effect between α-Fe2O3 QDs and the ultrathin porous structure of Fe-CN is the primary reason for the outstanding catalytic performance exhibited by α-Fe2O3/Fe-CN. On one hand, the ultrathin porous structure of Fe-CN promotes the rapid transfer of photogenerated electrons. On the other hand, the efficient photogenerated charge separation at the α-Fe2O3/Fe-CN interface enables more photogenerated electrons to participate in the Fe3+/Fe2+ conversion and H2O2 activation. The trapping experiments demonstrate that •OH and •O2- are the primary active species in TC degradation. This work presents novel insights into the design of efficient heterogeneous Fenton catalysts for practical applications.
Magnetic Core-Shell ZnFe2O4/ZnS Nanocomposites for Photocatalytic Application under Visible Light

Abstract:Magnetic core-shell ZnFe2O4/ZnS composites were synthesized through a two-step chemical process including the hydrothermal and the co-precipitation methods. The structural characterization revealed that the composites consisted of a layer of ZnS clusters on the surface of ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles. The band gap energy of the composite was estimated to be 2.2eV through the Kubelka-Munk plot, implying the possible application as a photocatalyst under the visible light radiation. The improved photocatalytic efficiency of the ZnFe2O4/ZnS composites was confirmed through the photocatalytic degradation of Methyl Orange. The increased absorption of the visible light and the enhanced separation of the electron-hole pairs due to the relative energy band positions in ZnFe2O4 and ZnS are considered as the main advantages. Additionally, the moderate magnetization of the ZnFe2O4 core insured the easy magnetic collection of the composite materials without affecting the photocatalytic performance. g-C3N4/UiO-66 nanohybrids with enhanced photocatalytic activities for the oxidation of dye under visible light irradiation

Abstract:In this study, g-C3N4 nanosheets coated UiO-66 nanohybrids were fabricated via a simple solvothermal method. The physicochemical parameters, structural and electrochemical properties of g-C3N4/UiO-66 nanohybrids (CNUO-x) were investigated. The nanohybrids were systematically characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TGA, TEM, SEM, EDS elemental mappings, XPS, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, PL and DRS. It was found that the addition of moderate g-C3N4 could enhance the separation and migration rate of photo-induced charges, consequently leading to the increase of photocatalytic efficiency. The CNUO-1 nanohybrid exhibited better photocatalytic activity for the oxidation of Rh B under visible light irradiation, and displayed about 6.0 and 3.3 times faster than that of g-C3N4 and UiO-66, respectively. Meanwhile, the nanohybrid showed excellent stability and reusability in four cyclic experiments. Finally, the increased photocatalytic reaction mechanism was also proposed. O2 −, h+ and OH were further found to be the main active contributors.

A Comparative Relationship Between Thyroid Gland And Body Weight: A Study in Foetuses of Different Ages

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the morphological structure and variation of thyroid gland in fetuses. Formalin fixed 40 aborted fetuses from 16weeks -36 weeks of gestational age were dissected to study the morphology of fetal thyroid glands. Crown -Rump length, and weight of the fetus along with fetal thyroid morphological and morphometric parameters were recorded. We observed the broader right lobes, broader left lobes of the thyroid glands, pyramidal lobe, levator glandulae thyroidae and isthmus agenesis which may consider under multiple morphological anomalies of the thyroid gland. The morphological parameters of the both broader right and left lobes of the thyroid glands of the fetuses were recorded. This study highlights various developmental anomalies of the thyroid gland, thereby forming a corner stone to safe and effective surgery. rd ring of trachea. There may be variations in its size and situation. (3) An anastomosis of superior thyroid artery is present along the upper border and inferior thyroid veins along lower border. The thyroid gland is covered by a thin fibrous sheath, the capsule of the thyroid. The anterior layer is continuous with pretracheal fascia and postero-laterally continous with the carotid sheath. The gland is covered anteriorly with infrahyoid muscles and laterally with the sternocleidomastoid muscle. On the posterior side, the gland is fixed to cricoids and tracheal ring cartilages and cricopharyngeus muscle by a thickening of the fascia to form the posterior suspensory ligament of thyroid gland also known as ligament of berry. Two parathyroid glands usually lies on each side between the two layers of the capsule, at the back of thyroid lobes.(4) Over the next few weeks, it migrates to the base of the neck, passing in front of the hyoid bone. During migration, the thyroid remains connected to the tongue by a narrow canal, the thyroglossal duct. At the end of the fifth week the thyroglossal duct degenerates and the detached thyroid continues on to its final position over the following two week. Persistence of pyramidal lobe, thyroglossal cysts, agenesis of the thyroid gland and aberrant thyroid are the major developmental anomalies of the thyroid gland (5). Accessory nodules or ectopic thyroid tissue of the thyroid are usually found at the embryonic origin of thyroid gland, at the foramen caecum, or on the lingual duct and thyroglossal tract within the tongue. (2,7) anomalies of the development of the thyroid gland distort the morphology of the gland may cause clinical functional disorders and various thyroid illnesses (6).
Bimetallic Fe/Ti‐Based Metal–Organic Framework for Persulfate‐Assisted Visible Light Photocatalytic Degradation of Orange II

Abstract:Amine-functionalized bimetallic Fe/Ti-based metal-organic frameworks (Fe/Ti-MOF-NH2) were synthesized via the solvo-thermal method and used as photocatalysts and activators for persulfate (PS)-assisted visible light photocatalytic degradation of Orange II. Nearly 100% of Orange II was removed within 10 min in the Fe/Ti-MOF-NH2(3:1)/PS/Vis process, while only 10.7% and 70.9% of Orange II were removed in Fe/Ti-MOF-NH2(3:1)/Vis and Fe/Ti-MOF-NH2(3:1)/PS processes within 10 min, respectively. Therefore, the synergistic effect of PS activation and visible light photocatalysis was demonstrated by the Fe/TiMOF-NH2(3:1) composite. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the photocatalyst can be attributed to the efficient electrons transfer by Fe3+/Fe2+ and Ti4+/Ti3+ redox cycles, activation of PS by photogenerated electrons to produce sulfate radicals (SO4 center dot-), and increased formation of hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot). Concurrently, the Fe/Ti-MOF-NH2(3:1) photocatalyst also exhibited good reusability and stability in the photocatalytic reaction system.

Abstract:Exploitation of catalysts with multi-active sites is very important for enhancing catalytic performance. 0D/2D hybrids, especially quantum dots (QDs)/nanosheets (NSs), have attracted increasing attentions for advanced oxidation processes due to high charge mobility and more active sites. However, 0D/2D hybrids with multi-active sites still remain a great challenge. Herein, 0D Cu-Fe bi-metal oxide QDs/2D g-C3N4 (CNNSs) exhibiting superior advantages beyond single-metal 0D/2D counterparts was fabricated via a facile one-step synthesis strategy for photo-Fenton catalysis. The synergy of ultrafine Cu-Fe sites on CNNSs led to outstanding tetracycline removal efficiency over a wide pH range. Our experiments and DFT calculations clearly demonstrated that except for the fast charge separation and transfer, this synergy could achieve the optimal H2O2 adsorption-activation trade-off on Cu-Fe sites, while also modify tetracycline absorption, leading to multiple synergies of adsorption-catalytic degradation and photocatalysis-Fenton oxidation. This work provides new insights in developing multi-functional 0D/2D hybrids for environment and energy applications.

Abstract:Cu2O/ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized by a coprecipitation method and were applied to degrade dye wastewater. The prepared nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The effects of initial Orange II (OII) dye concentration, pH and dosage of catalyst amount were investigated in the decomposition of OII dye by the nanocomposites. The best conditions for the dye decomposition by Cu2O/ZnO nanocomposites were found to be in the neutral solution when the dosage of catalyst was 200mg/L with an OII concentration of 50mg/L at room temperature. Under the above conditions, nearly 80% decolorization efficiency of OII was achieved by Cu2O/ZnO nanocomposites within 2h of reaction time and this efficiency was much higher than that of either pure Cu2O or ZnO.
