Abstract:A nonlinear adaptive sliding mode speed/position observer was proposed for sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM).The sliding surface was defined based on the errors between actual and estimated currents.The estimated back electro-motive force(EMF) was observed to calculate the position of the rotor,and the speed of the rotor was obtained by the adaptive velocity estimator.Convergence of the estimated parameters was analyzed based on the Lyapunov function.The choice of sliding mode gain was also analyzed.A sensorless vector control system based on the sliding mode observer was implemented.The proposed algorithm is easy to design and implement.Experimental results showed that the proposed method can precisely estimate the speed and position of the rotor,and that the system has good dynamic and static performances.

Abstract:This paper deals with sensorless vector control of induction motor (IM) based on model reference adaptive system (MRAS) theory and sliding mode technique. An adaptive-gain supertwisting (ASTW) sliding mode speed controller is designed to provide good speed tracking performance in the presence of load torque variation. A stator current and rotor flux sliding mode observer (SMO) is designed, which is insensitive to model uncertainties and parameter variation. By replacing the reference voltage model of conventional MARS with the SMO, the rotor speed can be estimated more precisely and improve the control performance. The proposed drive system is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK to verify the effectiveness and robustness.

Compared to conventional sliding mode observer, the proposed observer based on sliding mode observer and model reference adaptive system can effectively improve the precision of the rotor position estimation. The simulation and experiment results show that the improved adaptive sliding mode observer is feasible and effective.

Abstract:Aiming at the chattering problem arising from the estimation of rotor velocity by using traditional sliding mode observer (SMO), the paper combines sliding mode control with model reference adaptive systems by the extended state equations of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and the equations of extended sliding mode observer of PMSM, and then the new estimation method of rotor velocity is presented. The detailed comparison between the proposed method and the traditional one is introduced according to simulation analysis and experimental validation. The simulation and experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method which avoid the chattering problem of the traditional one and better estimated precision, moreover, good dynamic and static performance are achieved.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel sliding mode observer is presented for achieving the position sensorless vector control based on estimating the rotor position of permanent magnet synchronous machines. Compared to conventional sliding mode observer (smo), the proposed observer based on sliding mode observer and phase-locked loop (pll) can effectively reduce the influence of the sliding mode chattering and improve the precision of the rotor position estimation. The results of simulation show that the novel sliding mode observer is more effective than the conventional method.

Abstract:Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has been widely used in position control applications. Its performance is not satisfactory due to internal uncertainties and external load disturbances. To enhance the control performance of PMSM systems, a new method that has fast response and good robustness is proposed in this study. First, a modified integral terminal sliding mode controller is developed, which has a fast-sliding surface and a continuous reaching law. Then, an extended state observer is applied to measure the internal and external disturbances. Therefore, the disturbances can be compensated for in a feedforward manner. Compared with other sliding mode methods, the proposed method has faster response and better robustness against system disturbances. In addition, the position tracking error can converge to zero in a finite time. Simulation and experimental results reveal that the proposed control method has fast response and good robustness, and enables high-precision control.

Abstract:To eliminate the mechanical sensor of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, a novel nonlinear control strategy based on sliding mode observer is proposed. The sliding surface is defined on the errors between the actual and estimated currents. The convergence of the estimated parameters is analyzed based on Lyapunov function. This proposed algorithm is both easy to design and implement. A novel nonlinear control strategy - Backstepping is used to design speed tracking and current controllers. The system can achieve fast speed tracking and torqure response. The proof of system stabilization is given. Matlab simulation is applied to prove the efficiency and feasibility of system design.

Abstract:This paper deals with a current sensor fault reconstruction algorithm for the torque closed-loop drive system of an interior PMSM. First, sensor faults are equated to actuator ones by a new introduced state variable. Then, in αβ coordinates, based on the motor model with active flux linkage, a current observer is constructed with a specific sliding mode equivalent control methodology to eliminate the effects of unknown disturbances, and the phase current sensor faults are reconstructed by means of an adaptive method. Finally, an αβ axis current fault processing module is designed based on the reconstructed value. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by simulation and experimental tests on the RT-LAB platform.

Abstract:The sensorless control methods of permanent magnet synchronous motor are mostly based on high-frequency signal injection or state-observer. By analyzing the variable structure system and combining the model of surface permanent magnet synchronous motor under αβ coordinate, an adaptive sliding mode observer was presented in this paper to estimate the position and rotation speed of rotor and the convergence condition of observer was found. The self adapting rule was deduced and established, the convergence of which was proved by the Lyapunov theory. The dependence to motor parameters of conventional control methods based on motor model was solved. The stability of observer is not influenced by both parameters changing and load disturbing, which shows good robustness. Using the surface permanent magnet synchronous motor as example, the simulation and experimental results show the correctness of the analysis and the feasibility of the proposed technique.

Abstract:This paper exhibits a sensorless speed control method based on full‐order‐sliding‐mode observer applied to a fault‐tolerant permanent‐magnet‐synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. So, this paper proposes a rapid method of fault switch detection in the power converters aiming to make sure of the continuity of service despite the fault presence of an opening phase. In fact, the full‐order‐sliding‐mode observer (FO‐SMO) observer is used to replace the mechanical sensor and a redundant inverter leg is equally employed to replace the faulty leg. The proposed new fast fault diagnosis method has the features of a simple algorithm, independent of the transient states and being simply integrated without any additional sensors.

Abstract:The reliability of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems is very important in high-precision industrial drives. However, disturbance or sensor fault may cause the performance degradation of the system. This paper presents an improved sliding-mode-observer (SMO)-based equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) approach for the rejection of faults in current measurement circuits of a PMSM drive. A system model, which contains faults in current measurement circuits, is first constructed by using EIDs in control input circuits. Then, an improved SMO is designed to estimate the equivalent-input-faults. The effect of the faults on the system is rejected based on the EID theory. Moreover, the global stability and convergence analysis is also provided. Experiments and comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:For better performance of permanent magnetic synchronous motors (PMSM), a sensorless sliding mode observer (SMO) and an adaptive online parameter identification algorithm are proposed. An effective current compensation method is introduced to realize accurate current filtering with minimum delay. With the filtered current, an iterative SMO can precisely estimate the electromotive force (EMF). A modified phase locked loop algorithm detects the rotor position and speed from the estimated EMF. The output of SMO can be used to estimate motor parameter adaptively. The algorithm is proved to be robust and effective through a Lyapunov function and numerical simulations.

Abstract:In order to detect the fault of induction motor quickly and accurately, a new fault detection method based on backstepping sliding mode observer is proposed in this paper. The new sliding mode observer has good robustness to unknown load disturbance, can effectively weaken the chattering phenomenon, and has better response speed and stability than exponential and traditional observers. Firstly, the backstepping controller is designed according to the mathematical model of induction motor. Secondly, based on the backstepping method, the sliding mode control is introduced, and a new reaching law sliding mode observer is designed to estimate the stator current and speed. After comparing the actual value with the observed value, the self-detection of induction motor fault is realized. Then, the Simulink model under different fault conditions is established to simulate the three faults of stator winding fault, rotor winding fault and simultaneous fault of stator and rotor winding. The comparative experimental results show that the new sliding mode observer based on backstepping can accurately and sensitively detect different types of early micro faults, which has a certain reference value for the engineering application of fault detection.

Abstract:To enhance system position estimation reliability when a single-phase open-circuit fault occurs, this study provides a sensorless control strategy based on a medium and high-speed super-twisting sliding mode observer (ST-SMO) for a five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor, in which the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) control strategy is adopted. In this method, a super-twisting sliding mode observer is developed to achieve any two-healthy phase back electromotive force (EMFs) estimation, during normal and open-circuit fault operations, irrespective of parameter variations and external disturbances. Then a phase-locked loop (PLL) is presented to extract the position and the speed of the rotor directly from the estimated two phase back-EMFs. The proposed ST-SMO algorithm achieves strong robustness to various external variations, suppresses system chattering, and enhances the estimation accuracy in the medium and high-speed range. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method under different load conditions over medium to high-speed ranges.

Abstract:Background Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are widely used in various industries. However, in practical applications, the time-varying nature of load torque may lead to speed fluctuations, negatively impacting the motor's control performance and stability. To mitigate these issues, this paper proposes a load torque observation method for PMSMs based on a sliding mode observer. Methods The sliding mode observer is designed to estimate the load torque and convert it into a current, which is fed back as a feedforward compensation to the q-axis current in the current closed-loop control system. The observer's dynamic performance is optimized using a genetic algorithm to minimize the Integral of Time-weighted Absolute Error (ITAE) between the observer and the actual system state. Experimental tests are conducted on a motor torque testing platform. After stabilizing the motor at 800rpm, a sudden torque of 0.5Nm is applied. Results Compared to the situation without load torque compensation, the motor speed fluctuations are reduced by approximately 60% after adding load torque compensation. Conclusions This enhancement improves the system's speed control performance during torque variations and increases the system's robustness and disturbance rejection capability.

Abstract:Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are widely used due to their numerous benefits. It is critical to get rotor position and speed information in order to operate the motor accurately. Sensorless control techniques have emerged as a popular study area both at home and overseas. The sliding mode observer (SMO) may indirectly detect rotor position and has the benefits of easy implementation and efficient algorithms. In this study, a mathematical model for sensorless control of a PMSM is developed using SMO, vector control, and other techniques. With a surface-mounted PMSM as the study object, a mathematical model for sensorless control of PMSM is developed. PMSM's sliding mode observer model is built in the matlab/simulink environment. Experiments demonstrate that the system can track the rotor position and speed of the motor precisely and fulfill the requirements of sensorless vector control of PMSM.

Abstract:To eliminate the mechanical sensors of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive, the rotor speed and position of the motor are estimated by measuring stator currents and voltages. The sliding observer is employed for the state estimation. Based on the idea of linearizing the system piecewise, a new method of designing the sliding observer for nonlinear systems is proposed. The algorithm for estimating states of the PMSM is presented, which is simple in structure and easy to be implemented in sensorless drive by using a computer. The digital simulations and experimental tests are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:Abstract In this study, a new adaptive sliding-mode observer is proposed to estimate the rotor position and speed for sensorless control of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in an electric vehicle drive system. This observer can effectively reduce the estimation errors caused by the inherent chattering phenomenon for a conventional sliding-mode observer and the stator resistance uncertainty due to the variation of motor temperature. This new sliding-mode observer is designed by using a hyperbolic tangent function instead of sign function together with a variable boundary layer, and the new adaptive law is constructed according to the back electromotive force model to reinforce dynamic performance and the robustness of system. Meanwhile, a stator resistance identification algorithm is raised and guaranteed to be stable by using a Lyapunov method. The performance of the developed observer is compared with the conventional sliding-mode controller. Both simulation and experimental results confirm that the chattering phenomenon is effectively eliminated and the estimation accuracy for position and velocity is apparently improved when applying the developed observer in the electric vehicle drive system

Abstract:For permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), high-performance control strategies rely on sensors to obtain accurate information of rotor position and speed. However, mechanical sensors are expensive and susceptible to harsh environment. Therefore, various sensorless control strategies have been proposed and intensively investigated for decades. Among them, sliding mode observer (SMO) based sensorless control method has drawn increasing attention due to its simple implementation and strong robustness. This article presents a comprehensive review of SMO-based sensorless control strategies for PMSMs reported in the literature. State-of-the-art SMO-based sensorless control strategies have been reviewed and investigated, and the design of SMO under nonideal conditions is presented as well. In addition, future research trends for SMO-based sensorless control strategies are also discussed.
