Abstract:Waterflooding of coal seam is an effective method for dust control and gas outburst control. This work utilized a visual coal waterflooding device to investigate the macroscopic water diffusion in coal matrix and the influence of coal wettability, coal fracture size, and gravity on water diffusion and wetting. The results showed that water diffusion front in coal was flat and steadily advancing when coal was hydrophobic. The diffusion front of small fracture coal was more stable than that of large fracture coal. Water diffused faster in hydrophilic coal than in hydrophobic coal. Water diffused faster in large fracture coal than in small fracture coal. The influence of fracture size on water diffusion was more obvious in hydrophobic coal than in hydrophilic coal. Gravity scarcely affected water diffusion in hydrophilic and hydrophobic coal. The research results have significant reference value for guiding coal seam waterflooding for dust control.
