Abstract:The consensus problem is investigated for a class of multi-agent systems with nonlinear dynamics on a fixed directed information network, where each agent is assumed to share information only with its neighbors on some disconnected time intervals. A novel adaptive intermittent control protocol is first introduced, where only intermittent relative local information is used. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory combined with the method of the adaptive control and intermittent control, some novel and simple consensus criteria are derived under a fixed strongly connected topology, it is proved that consensus can be reached if the measure of communication is larger than a threshold value. The results are then extended to consensus with a virtual leader where the underlying topology is not necessarily strong connected or contains a directed spanning tree. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.
Multi-agent consensus tracking with initial state error by iterative learning control

Abstract:This work addresses a leader-follower tracking problem by an iterative learning control approach. In the multi-agent setup, a dynamic leader is connected to a few of followers, and the communication among agents is described by a directed graph. In contrast to many existing literature in which the perfect initial condition is imposed, we assume that the initial state is reset to a fixed position that is not equal to the desired state. First, the performance of D-type learning rule is analyzed, and it is shown that the follower's output trajectory converges to a unique trajectory. In particular, when the learning gain is full column rank the trajectory of each agent converges to the leader's trajectory with a constant shift. Next, to improve the control performance, PD-type learning rule is proposed for the tracking problem. It is proven that the output trajectory converges exponentially to the leader's trajectory for each agent provided that the learning gains are appropriately chosen. Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the theoretical results.

Abstract:In this note, the consensus problem of linear multi-agent systems with Markovian communication topology and time-varying delay is investigated. The topology of network is switched by Markovian process and the time-delay is considered to be time-varying and has a lower and upper bounds. A sufficient condition of mean square consensus is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities, and based on the condition, a controller design method is presented such that the multi-agent systems reaches to mean square consensus.

Abstract:In this paper, the consensus tracking problem for the linear and nonlinear partial difference multi-agent systems with switching communication topology and control delay is investigated. Based on relative local measurements of neighboring followers, while considering spatio-temporal discretization and initial state deviation, a discrete distributed consensus protocol with initial value learning is designed for each agent via D-type iterative learning approach. Through rigorous mathematical theoretical analysis, the necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained. Under the switching of the communication topology, these conditions ensure that the consensus tracking control of the MASs can be solved. After applying the designed protocol, in the sense of the L2 norm and along the positive direction of the iteration axis, the consensus tracking error between any two agents can converge to zero. Finally, some simulation examples are used to demonstrate the validity of the protocol and theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper addresses the event-triggered consensus tracking for general linear multi-agent systems with nonlinear uncertainty dynamics under directed communication topology. The proposed event-triggered consensus strategy relaxes the assumptions in existing works that the control gain and local inputs must be continuous. With the consensus tracking condition being satisfied, the cooperative control law with bounded parameter is developed based on the intermittent samples. It shows that if the sampling condition, in terms of LMIs, is satisfied, the resulting closed-loop general linear multi-agent uncertain systems will achieve the consensus. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed approach.

Abstract:Distributed matrix-scaled consensus is a kind of generalized cooperative control problem and has broad applications in the field of social network and engineering. This paper addresses the robust distributed matrix-scaled consensus of perturbed multi-agent systems suffering from unknown disturbances. Distributed discontinuous protocols are first proposed to drive agents to achieve cluster consensus and suppress the effect of disturbances. Adaptive protocols with time-varying gains obeying differential equations are also designed, which are completely distributed and rely on no global information. Using the boundary layer technique, smooth protocols are proposed to avoid the unexpected chattering effect due to discontinuous functions. As a cost, under the designed smooth protocols, the defined matrix-scaled consensus error tends to a residual set rather than zero, in which the residual bound is arbitrary small by choosing proper parameters. Moreover, distributed dynamic event-based matrix-scalar consensus controllers are also proposed to avoid continuous communications. Simulation examples are provided to further verify the designed algorithms.

Abstract:In this paper, a new distributed consensus tracking protocol incorporating local disturbance rejection is devised for a multi-agent system with heterogeneous dynamic uncertainties and disturbances over a directed graph. It is of two-degree-of-freedom nature. Specifically, a robust distributed controller is designed for consensus tracking, while a local disturbance estimator is designed for each agent without requiring the input channel information of disturbances. The condition for asymptotic disturbance rejection is derived. Moreover, even when the disturbance model is not exactly known, the developed method also provides good disturbance-rejection performance. Then, a robust stabilization condition with less conservativeness is derived for the whole multi-agent system. Further, a design algorithm is given. Finally, comparisons with the conventional one-degree-of-freedom-based distributed disturbance-rejection method for mismatched disturbances and the distributed extended-state observer for matched disturbances validate the developed method. Abstract:This article delves into the intricate matter of achieving robust consensus tracking of multi‐agent systems with structured uncertainty, one‐sided Lipschitz nonlinearity and time‐varying delay. It is important to note that the time delay is both time‐varying and bounded. To solve the consensus tracking problem of multi‐agent systems, we transform it into the stability problem of an error system. Then, a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, incorporating the free‐weighting matrix technique and integral inequality approach, is designed to investigate the stability of the obtained error system. The Leibnitz–Newton formula and its associated relationships among terms are also taken into account. Then, two distributed control strategyies that respectively utilizes relative state and output information of neighboring agents are designed. This approach enables us to find a feasible solution to the consensus tracking problem. Finally, several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper studies the bipartite tracking control problem for multi-agent systems (MASs). The purpose of this paper is to propose novel consensus criteria and further design the bipartite tracking controller subject to uncertain switching topologies and time delays. By constructing an improved monotone-delay-interval-based Lyapunov functional (MDIBLF), we establish lower conservatism consensus conditions than those of previous results. Moreover, the periodically-varying delay is considered in consensus tracking protocol for MASs. It is highlighted that a new zero equation is introduced to deal with the double integral term in the Lyapunov functional. And the quadratic function negative-determination lemma is not required in our method. Applying the proposed approach, we obtain a bipartite controller for the followers to track the leader. Finally, to demonstrate the superiority of the presented method, two simulation examples based on quadrotors and spacecraft formation flying model are introduced.

Abstract:A general finite-time bipartite consensus problem is studied for multi-agent systems with completely unknown nonlinearities. An asymmetric bipartite consensus task is defined by introducing a proportional-related coefficient and a relationship-related index, which arranges that the agents reach an agreement with proportional modulus and opposite signs. With the cooperative-antagonistic interactions, a model-free adaptive bipartite iterative learning consensus protocol is proposed for promoting the accuracy of the performance within a finite-time interval. By employing the matrix transformation and property of the nonnegative matrix, the iteratively asymptotic convergence of the error of the MAS is guaranteed under the structurally balanced digraph has an oriented spanning tree. This differs from MFAILC results that have been proven based on matrix norm and do not require strong connectivity of digraphs. Moreover, the bounds for elements in the estimation-related matrices are presented, followed by providing a graph correlated sufficient condition to guide selection of control parameters. The results further extend to the control of asymmetric bipartite consensus tracking. The simulation examples verify the effectiveness of the distributed learning control protocols.

Abstract:This paper studies the consensus of first-order discrete-time multiagent systems, where the interaction topology is time-varying. The event-triggered control is used to update the control input of each agent, and the event-triggering condition is designed based on the combination of the relative states of each agent to its neighbors. By applying the common Lyapunov function method, a sufficient condition for consensus, which is expressed as a group of linear matrix inequalities, is obtained and the feasibility of these linear matrix inequalities is further analyzed. Simulation examples are provided to explain the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the consensus tracking problem for leader-following multi-agent systems with general dynamics. The agents that are at most critically unstable and with time-varying delays and arbitrary switching topology are considered in our work. A novel framework for cooperative tracking control with time-varying input delay and communication delay under switching topology is constructed. The distributed observer-based tracking protocol is proposed for desired tracking based on the truncated predictor feedback method, algebraic graph theory and Riccati equation. Moreover, we design the observer gain and feedback gain independent of each other. A simulation example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Abstract:This paper investigates the distributed consensus tracking control problem for general linear multi-agent systems with external disturbances and heterogeneous time-varying input and communication delays under a directed communication graph topology, containing a spanning tree. First, for all agents whose state matrix has no eigenvalues with positive real parts, a communication-delay-related observer, which is used to construct the controller, is designed for followers to estimate the leader’s state information. Second, by means of the output regulation theory, the results are relaxed to the case that only the leader’s state matrix needs to be asymptotically stable or marginally stable and, under these relaxed conditions, the controller is redesigned. Both cases lead to a closed-loop error system of which the stability is guaranteed via a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional with sufficient conditions in terms of input-delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An extended LMI is proposed which, in conjunction with the rest of LMIs, results in a solution with a larger upper bound on delays than what would be feasible without it. It is highlighted that the integration of communication-delay-related observer and input-delay-related LMI to construct a fully distributed controller (which requires no global information) is scalable to arbitrarily large networks. The efficacy of the proposed scheme is demonstrated via an illustrative numerical example.

Abstract:This study addresses the robust consensus tracking problem of multi-agent systems with uncertain Lur'e-type non-linear dynamics under a fixed topology. To achieve consensus tracking, a class of discontinuous control protocols are first proposed, which rely on the relative information among the neighbouring agents. Theoretical analysis indicates that the robust consensus tracking of uncertain Lur'e network can be achieved if the coupling strength and the control gain are both larger than the thresholds depending on some global information of the network. Then, an adaptive consensus tracking protocol is further designed to solve the robust consensus tracking problem as a modification of a fully distributed version without the need of any global information of the multi-agent systems. Furthermore, as an expansion of the discontinuous protocols, a new class of continuous control laws are developed based on the boundary layer concept. Finally, a couple of examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper addresses the robust distributed consensus tracking problem for leader‐follower multi‐agent systems (MASs) with nonlinear dynamics and external disturbances under directed graph topologies. The nonlinear uncertainties are not required to be continuous or meet the matching conditions. The backstepping design method combined with signal compensation approach is proposed to design robust controllers in order to guarantee the consensus tracking property between the followers and the one leader. Moreover, the dynamic surface control technique is used to deal with the 'explosion of complexity' problem. It is proven that the robust distributed consensus tracking property of the MASs can be guaranteed. Furthermore, the consensus tracking errors can be designed as small as required and the convergence speed can be chosen arbitrarily. Finally, two examples are presented to show the validity of the proposed consensus tracking control protocols.

Abstract:In this article, the consensus tracking problem for multi‐agent systems (MASs) under switching communication topologies is studied. In the objective system, the unknown nonlinear function, exogenous disturbances, and actuator faults are considered. For this problem, a new fully distributed fault‐tolerant control method is developed via utilizing adaptive mechanisms. A sufficient condition is obtained to guarantee the stability of the considered closed‐loop system by topology‐based average dwell time technique combined with Lyapunov stability theory. Unlike the traditional method to estimate the weight matrix, the neural network is used to estimate the norm of weight vectors. Thus, the difficulty that the unknown nonlinear function cannot be compensated when outage or stuck faults occur in some actuators is solved. Compared with the existing controllers for nonlinear MASs, the proposed controller does not require any knowledge about the terms relevant to the global information associated with the network. Furthermore, the proposed controller can compensate for the leader's unknown bounded input and actuator faults. Besides, the closed‐loop system is proven to be stable by the developed controller, and all followers can track the state of the leader. Finally, a numerical simulation is given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed protocol.

Abstract:The primary challenge in designing a consensus algorithm under switching topologies is to deal with discontinuous interactive information. At present, most consensus control results are limited to either agents with mismatched uncertainties in a time-invariant interaction environment or integrator dynamics in a dynamically changing interaction environment. This work addresses consensus problems of heterogeneous nonlinear multiagent systems without these limitations. We propose a novel, simple, yet effective higher-order filter to yield differentiable control variables employing neighbor position information and discontinuous topology information. By applying this filter and defining a suitable auxiliary error, we develop distributed consensus controllers for second-order and uncertain higher-order systems. One of the salient attributes of the proposed methodology is to allow each agent to require minimal local feedback, i.e., only the position information of itself and its neighboring agents. Theoretical and simulation verifications of the scheme guaranteeing asymptotic convergence of consensus and the boundedness of each signal in the closed-loop system are carefully examined.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with general coopetition networks with signed graphs, based on which both the bipartite consensus and tracking control problems for networked systems subject to nonidentical matching uncertainties are studied. For the case of undirected and connected communication graphs, we propose a distributed discontinuous nonlinear controller which can achieve the bipartite consensus. To cancel the chattering phenomenon of the discontinuous controller, a continuous one is designed by using the boundary layer technique, under which the bipartite consensus error is shown to be uniformly ultimately bounded and can exponentially converge to a small adjustable bounded set. Further, considering the case of a leader having a bounded control action, we present a continuous controller to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the bipartite tracking error.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel adaptive consensus algorithm for a class of nonlinear multiagent systems with time-varying asymmetric state constraints. As such, our contribution is a step forward beyond the usual consensus stabilization result to show that the states of the agents remain within a user defined, time-varying bound. To prove our new results, the original multiagent system is transformed into a new one. Stabilization and consensus of transformed states are sufficient to ensure the consensus of the original networked agents without violatingof the predefined asymmetric time-varying state constraints. A single neural network (NN), whose weights are tuned online, is used in our design to approximate the unknown functions in the agent’s dynamics. To account for the NN approximation residual, reconstruction error, and external disturbances, a robust term is introduced into the approximating system equation. Additionally in our design, each agent only exchanges the information with its neighbor agents, and thus the proposed consensus algorithm is decentralized. The theoretical results are proved via Lyapunov synthesis. Finally, simulations are performed on a nonlinear multiagent system to illustrate the performance of our consensus design scheme.

Abstract:This paper considers a finite-time consensus problem for a distributed multi-agent system executing a given repetitive task. The virtual leader technology is introduced for the system with fixed topology. Under the condition of unknown initial states corresponding to the desired trajectory, a distributed learning control algorithm combined with initial state correction of every agent is proposed for the system with interference. The convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm can eliminate the tracking errors caused by the different initial states between every agent and the desired trajectory, and the perfect tracking control within the finite-time is available. Simulate results also prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
