Investigation of Disease Remission Status of Children with Bronchial Asthma Before and after Adolescence

Abstract:Objective To explore the basic disease remission status of children with bronchial asthma before and after adolescence.Methods The questionnaire survey of basic disease remission status was carried out before and after adolescence among 501 asthmatic patients aged 8-26 years old.Results Disease remission rate of 501 patients with asthma before and after adolescence was 67.5%(338/501 cases),and there was no significant difference for the disease remission rate between male(66.0%) and female(69.9%).The first attack age and the last attack age of asthma of non-remission children were respectively older than those in the remission group,and the differences were significant(t=5.82,9.90,Pa=0.00).Those who were still subject to frequent attacks of asthma(more than 6 times attacks every year) after 8 years old had smaller possibility of remission after adolescence compared with the patients who had less than 6 times attacks every year,and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=20.69,P=0.00).Compared with the patients with mild or no significant rhinitis,the remission rate of children with more severe symptoms of allergic rhinitis(medium-severe degree) before and after adolescence was lower,and the difference was statistically significant(χ2 =8.25,P=0.02).Individuals in high attack seasons of spring,summer and autumn had even lower asthma remission rate after adolescence compared with the patients in high attack season of winter,and the difference was statistically significant(χ2 =7.71,P=0.04).The higher was the total blood IgE,the lower remission rate was in the children with asthma after adolescence,and the difference was statistically significant(t=2.16,P=0.03).The children with asthma receiving combination therapy of standardized steroid inhalation treatment and specific immunotherapy had higher remission rate during adolescence,compared with the steroid inhalation group and non-standardized treatment group,the differences were statistically significant(χ2=10.25,P=0.01).The children with asthma carrying out regular exercise and body building had higher remission rate(75.3%) in adolescence,compared with the children without regular exercise and body building,the difference was statistically significant(χ2=8.76,P=0.00).Conclusions Before and after adolescence,the children with asthma have high remission rate.If the age of first attack of asthma is older,the acute attack of asthma after 8 years old becomes more frequent,the complicated allergic rhinitis gets more severe,and the total blood IgE is higher,so the disease remission of children with asthma before and after adolescence becomes more difficult.The remission rate of asthma before and after adolescence can be improved through positive intervention measures,such as specific immunotherapy,exercise and body building etc.
