Abstract:A sensitive Pb(II) sensor was fabricated based on Co3O4/reduced graphene oxide/chitosan (Co3O4/rGO/chitosan) nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The Co3O4/rGO material was synthesized through in situ growth of Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) on GO and subsequent hydrazine reduction process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) show that Co3O4 NPs with a diameter of around 100nm are attached on rGO sheets. The structures and compositions of Co3O4/rGO were further characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Many experimental parameters, such as pH value, deposition time and deposition potential were optimized. Under optimal conditions, the calibration plot for Pb(II), with data acquired at −0.556V (vs. SCE) is linear in the concentration range from 1.0 to 200.0nM. Combining the good conductivity and high surface area of rGO, strong Pb(II) adsorption ability of Co3O4 NPs, and excellent Pb(II) complex-forming ability of chitosan, the nanocompsite provides a sensitive Pb(II) senor with a detection limit of 0.35nM. Moreover, the positively charged chitosan can interact with the negatively charged rGO to increase the stability of Co3O4/rGO nanocomposite. The hybrid nanocomposite Pb(II) senor provides new opportunity for vegetable analysis.

Abstract:The development of an effective sensing platform is critical for the electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions (HMIs) in water. In this study, we fabricated a newly designed sensor through the in situ assembly of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and polyphosphate nanoparticles (polyP NPs) on a carbon cloth electrode via microorganism-mediated green biochemical processes. The characterization results revealed that the rGO produced via microbial reduction had a three-dimensional porous structure, serving as an exceptional scaffold for hosting polyP NPs, and the polyP NPs were evenly distributed on the rGO network. In terms of detecting HMIs, the numerous functional groups of polyP NPs play a major role in the coordination with the cations. This electrochemical sensor, based on polyP NPs/rGO, enabled the individual and simultaneous determination of lead ion (Pb2+) and copper ion (Cu2+) with detection limits of 1.6 nM and 0.9 nM, respectively. Additionally, the electrode exhibited outstanding selectivity for the target analytes in the presence of multiple interfering metal ions. The fabricated sensor was successfully used to determine Pb2+/Cu2+ in water samples with satisfactory recovery rates ranging from 92.16% to 104.89%. This study establishes a facile, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly microbial approach for the synthesis of electrode materials and the detection of environmental pollutants.

Abstract:Herein, an electrochemical sensor was developed for detecting heavy metal ions by using a carboimidazole grafted reduced graphene oxide (reduced graphene oxide-NH-carboimidazole, abbreviated as RGO-NH-Ci) modified electrode. The morphology of RGO-NH-Ci material was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The electrochemical behaviors of the RGO-NH-Ci modified electrode toward heavy metal ions, including Hg2+ and Pb2+, were investigated with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). Compared with pure reduced graphene oxide (RGO), RGO-NH-Ci modified electrode showed improved analytical performance in detecting the two metal ions owing to the strong complexing capacity of Ci and the presence of the amino groups. The detection limits were estimated to be 0.2nM and 3.0nM for Hg2+ and Pb2+, respectively, under the optimized conditions. The developed method was also employed to detect the Hg2+ and Pb2+ in real water samples, and satisfactory results were obtained.

Abstract:A newly developed electrochemical sensor for simultaneous detection of Cu2+ and Pb2+ in polluted water using the non-metallic porphyrin functioned graphene oxide (GO) by 7C-7C noncovalent interactions is demonstrated. Introduction of 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-hydroxyphenyl)-21H, 23H-porphine (THPP) on GO nanosheets resulted in enhanced electron transfer due to the high electron mobility of GO and the excellent electron-feeding properties of THPP. Due to the synergistic effect between THPP and GO, the prepared sensors showed remarkable electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of Cu2+ and Pb2+. It exhibited two-segmentinear response over the concentration range from 5 - 300 & mu;M and 300---900 & mu;M with a detection limit of 1.5 & mu;M for Cu2+ and two-segment corresponding linear range of 5---250 & mu;M and 250---900 & mu;M with a detection limit of 1.6 & mu;M for Pb2+. In addition, the proposed sensor has excellent anti-interference ability for some common cations and anions. The technique can be used successfully for simultaneously detection of residual Cu2+ and Pb2+ in real water, thus demonstrating its high utility for conventional sensing applications in real environments.

Abstract:This study presents electrochemical-based detection of heavy metal ions in mineral water samples. The aim of this research was to design a low-cost and highly sensitive disposable sensor to quantify Cd(II) and Pb(II). To this end, we have modified a pencil graphite electrode coated with graphene oxide (GO), electrochemically reduced graphene oxide and deposited metallic Au particles using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry. The findings revealed that the combined effect of GO and activation of the surface with auric acid improved electrical conductivity, thus facilitating deposition of Cd(II) and Pb(II) onto the electrode's surface. Under optimal conditions, a linear correlation was observed between current values and the concentrations of Cd(II) and Pb(II) within the ranges of 0.6–1.6 μM and 0.4–1.6 μM, where the limit of detection values were obtained as 0.36 μM and 0.24 μM for Cd(II) and Pb(II), respectively. According to the experimental results, the developed electrode can achieve a considerably high recovery rates for detection of Cd(II) (98.5%) and Pb(II) (93.5%) in gaseous natural mineral water samples.

Abstract:Here, conductive carbon cloth (CC) and three-dimensional (3D) graphene hydrogel (GH) were combined to develop an electrochemical sensor for the detection of trace Cu 2+ . 3D GH/CC has low production cost and high sensitivity, accuracy, and stability, which are suitable for creation of small portable devices and large-scale commercial production. The limit of detection reached 1.87 nmol L −1 , and the linear ranges were from 0.1 μmol L −1 to 10 μmol L −1 and from 10 μmol L −1 to 1000 μmol L −1 . Innovative interactive verification-based Cu 2+ detection was carried out using two electrochemical detection methods, namely, anodic stripping voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and with the mutual support of the two methods, the recovery rate of Cu 2+ was estimated to 98%, which was improved considerably at medium and low concentrations in the actual water sample. The results showed that this preparation and detection method can be used as a new platform for the detection of trace Cu 2+ and provide a new commercialized case for evaluating the composition and content of inorganic pollutants in water.

Abstract:A facile and green approach has been demonstrated for the fabrication of highly uniform and monodisperse noble metal (Ag, Au, Pt) nanoparticles (NMNPs) in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers by combining an in situ reduction and electrospinning technique, which are used as efficient biosensor for the detection of H2O2. The small and stable NMNPs can be easily obtained in aqueous solution using EGCG as both reductant and stabilizer. Through electrospinning technique, uniform and smooth nanofibers can be obtained and the NMNPs with narrow size distributions are well dispersed in PVA nanofibers. The investigation indicates that the viscosity of the PVA solution play an important role in controlling the size of NMNPs. The fabricated AgNPs/PVA nanofibers functionalized electrodes exhibits remarkable increased electrochemical catalysis toward H2O2 and excellent stability and reusability. The biosensor allows the highly sensitive detection of H2O2 with a broad linear range span of the concentration of H2O2 from 10μM to 560μM. The rapid electrode response to the change of the H2O2 concentration is attributed to the fast diffusion of the H2O2 onto the surface of small AgNPs through the porous nanofibers structures.

Abstract:Introduction: In this study, a nanocomposite film was prepared by doping silver nanoparticles onto β-cyclodextrin-chitosan functionalized Reduced Graphene Oxide (RGO), denoted as Ag/ β-CD/CS/G nanocomposite. The average diameter of the Ag NPs was found to be 62±17 nm. Method: The fabricated composite was applied to monitor trace levels of copper ions in different industrial and environmental water samples. The morphology and microstructure of the fabricated sensor were extensively investigated using different techniques, including XRD, TGA, HR-TEM, FTIR, SEM, XPS, and EDX physicochemical techniques. For the electrochemical monitoring of Cu(II), the Ag/β-CD/CS/G nanocomposite electrode showed remarkable performance in terms of high sensitivity and a low limit of detection that was found to be 0.24 nmol L -1 . Result: The developed sensors showed a linear dynamic range from 10 -3 to 10 -8 mol L -1 with an R 2 of 0.99. The impacts of different electrochemical parameters, including medium pH, scanning rate, and interfering ions, were investigated. Conclusion: Furthermore, the fabricated modified electrode showed high efficiency for Cu(II) detection in groundwater samples.

Abstract:Nanododecahedral ZIF-67 crystals were successfully synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method at room temperature and constructed with graphene oxide (GO) and Nafion as an electrochemical sensing platform for Cu 2+ . The properties of the electrode and the modified materials were analysed by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), square wave stripping voltammetry (SWSV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The experimental results show that the ZIF-67/GO/Nafion/GCE sensor platform has a stronger adsorption effect on Cu 2+ . It has high sensitivity (101.29 μA·μM −1 ) and a low detection limit (7.55 nM) in the linear range of 0.01 to 1.0 μM, as well as long-term stability, good repeatability and selectivity. The recovery rate was between 95.7 and 102.7% for real water samples. The method can be used for the trace analysis of Cu 2+ , which is valuable for the detection of trace metal ions in real water samples.

Abstract:In this study, a nitrogen-doped multi-walled carbon nanotube (N-MWCNTs)/silver nanowire (AgNWs) nanocomposite electrode was prepared, using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a flexible substrate and N-MWCNTs and AgNWs as conductive materials. Trace Cu(II) in water was monitored by square wave stripping voltammetry (SWSV). Compared with commercial electrodes, the N-MWCNTs/AgNWs composite electrode generated much higher responsive peak current in detecting Cu(II), due to the enhanced conductivity of the composite electrode and the strong complexing ability of the N-MWCNTs for Cu(II). In the SWSV, this new electrode showed 0.06 μg/L (S/N = 3) limit of detection, a linear range from 0.500 to 100 μg/L, high resistance to interfering metals such as Ca(II), K(I), Zn(II), Na(I), Al(III), Fe(III), Hg(II), Cr(VI), Bi(III), Sb(III) and Sn(II), and stable response in natural water samples without sample pretreatment. This study established a new method for facile fabrication of high-performance flexible Cu(II) sensor with N-MWCNTs and AgNWs.
Super-efficient and stable detection of toxic heavy metal by polyethylenimine-modified graphene electrode sensor

Abstract:A novel graphene-modified electrode with polyethylenimine (PEI) and chitosan (CS) was created to detect Pb(II) via differential pulsed anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). PEI grafted on graphene oxide (GO) by reduction reaction was prepared into PEI-rGO composite, then the material was combined with CS to successfully prepare (PEI-rGO)/CS electrodes, and the effects of PEI-rGO contents on the Pb(II) detection response were investigated. The modified electrodes showed significant improvement in electrochemical activity, effective surface area, and Pb(II) detection sensitivity. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the electrodes displayed a wide linear concentration range (1–130 μg/L) and a low detection limit (5 ng/L) on Pb(II) detection. The experimental results showed that the modified electrode had a good stability with 1.80% relative standard deviation (RSD) of 10 repetitions of Pb(II) detection. This electrode had good anti-interference and good detection on Pb(II) in real water samples. The results offered a potential sensor technique for efficient and rapid in situ Pb(II) monitoring in aquatic environments.

Abstract:Herein, a nanocomposite comprising polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and cobalt(II) hydroxide (Co(OH)2) nanoparticles (PVP–Co(OH)2) was synthesized via a hydrothermal method and used for detection of Cu(II) ions. Using PVP grafted nanosized Co(OH)2 as a surfactant could decrease the aggregation and reduce the particle size. The conducted morphology investigations showed that PVP–Co(OH)2 nanocomposite was composed of small spherical particles with a diameter of 40–80 nm that could accelerate mass diffusion and favor the deposition-stripping process of Cu(II) ions. High catalytic activity of Co(OH)2 and good affinity of PVP to Cu(II) ions synergistically enhances sensing performance of the PVP–Co(OH)2 nanocomposite-modified electrode than Co(OH)2- and PVP-modified electrodes. A linear response was obtained for Cu(II) ion concentration over a range of 1.0–90.0 μg/L, with a detection limit of 0.26 μg/L (S/N = 3). The proposed electrode exhibited good performance in terms of selectivity, stability, and reproducibility. It was also employed to detect Cu(II) ions in water and food samples, and the results were in good agreement with those obtained by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.

Abstract:An ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor for the detection of Cadmium (Cd(II)) was successfully constructed based on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide-persimmon tannin (PT-N-RGO) nanocomposite and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) modified screen-printed electrode (SPE). The structure and morphology of the prepared PT-N-RGO nanocomposite were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV–vis), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Each step for the electrochemical biosensor was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Au NPs, as modified electrode material, not only increased the effective surface area of the electrode, but also promoted the electron transfer during the redox reaction. The PT-N-RGO further increased the electron transfer rate, thereby improving the conductivity of the electrode and providing more binding sites for the subsequent capture of Cd (II). The biosensor showed good selectivity, stability and reproducibility for the determination of Cd (II). Also, the biosensor was applied to the analysis of real water samples and satisfactory results were obtained, which were verified by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This study provided a new idea for the effective determination of trace heavy metals in the environment.

Abstract:Herein we present a facile synthesis of the graphene oxide-decorated binary transition metal oxides of Bi2O3 and MnO2 nanocomposites (Bi2O3/MnO2/GO) and their applications in the voltammetric detection of lead ions (Pb2+) in water samples. The surface morphologies, crystal structures, electroactive surface area, and charge transferred resistance of the Bi2O3/MnO2/GO nanocomposites were investigated through the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), power X-ray diffraction (XRD), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques, respectively. The Bi2O3/MnO2/GO nanocomposites were further decorated onto the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), and Pb2+ was quantitatively analyzed by using square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). We explored the effect of the analytical parameters, including deposition potential, deposition time, and solution pH, on the stripping peak current of Pb2+. The Bi2O3/MnO2/GO nanocomposites enlarged the electroactive surface area and reduced the charge transferred resistance by significant amounts. Moreover, the synergistic enhancement effect of MnO2, Bi2O3 and GO endowed Bi2O3/MnO2/GO/GCE with extraordinary electrocatalytic activity toward Pb2+ stripping. Under optimal conditions, the Bi2O3/MnO2/GO/GCE showed a broad linear detection range (0.01–10 μM) toward Pb2+ detection, with a low limit of detection (LOD, 2.0 nM). The proposed Bi2O3/MnO2/GO/GCE electrode achieved an accurate detection of Pb2+ in water with good recoveries (95.5–105%).

Abstract:A sensitive electrochemical sensor based on ion-imprinted chitosan-graphene (CS/rGO-IIP) nanocomposites has been developed for the determination of Cd(II). The surface morphology of CS/rGO-IIP was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the structure was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The differential pulsed anodic solution voltammetry (DPASV) was used to detect Cd(II) to evaluate the performance of electrochemical sensor. The detection limit of CS/rGO-IIP electrode for Cd(II) was 0.2 μg/L, and the linear range obtained for Cd(II) was 1-160 μg/L, which found to be below the World Health Organisation (WHO) limits. The developed sensor has excellent anti-interference, reproducibility and stability, and can be applied for the determination of Cd(II) in real water environment. This work offered a viable method for ion imprinting electrochemical interface construction and electrochemical sensing.

Abstract:Pb(II) and Cu(II) can cause serious harm to human health. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop highly sensitive detection methods. Herein, the composite UiO-66-NH2/rGO was prepared by in-situ growth method. The UiO-66-NH2/rGO showed high sensitivity with Pb(II) of 6.27 mu A/mu M and Cu(II) of 6.83 mu A/mu M. Additionally, the UiO-66-NH2/rGO exhibits excellent repeatability, reproducibility, anti-interference properties and practical application potential. These results indicate that UiO-66-NH2/rGO is an excellent electrode modification material. The composite has the advantages of high sensitivity and good practical application effect. This work provides a strategy for the application of UiO-66-NH2 in the field of electrochemical sensing.
rGO/MWCNTs-COOH 3D hybrid network as a high-performance electrochemical sensing platform of screen-printed carbon electrodes with an ultra-wide detection range of Cd(II) and Pb(II)

Abstract:In this study, we develop a high-performance screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) - carboxy-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) hybrids for simultaneous detection cadmium ions (Cd 2+ ) and lead ions (Pb 2+ ). The surface morphology and electrochemical behaviour of the modified SPCE was characterised by SEM, AFM, EIS and CV. The control steps of the redox reaction on the modified SPCE and the influence of the morphology of modified SPCE on the shape of stripping peak have also been studied. In addition, Nafion and in-situ bismuth film (BFE) methods were introduced in this detection system to enhance the stability and stripping performance. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the Nafion/rGO-MWCNTs-COOH/SPCE showed excellent catalytic activity towards Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ (pH = 4.5) with a significantly increased SWASV peak current compared to the unmodified SPCE. The developed sensor obtains an ultra-wide dynamic concentration range from 0.1 to 1350 μg·L −1 due to the introduction of 3D hybrid material and the optimisation of the detection parameters. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) for Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ was 0.04 μg·L −1 and 0.02 μg·L −1 , respectively. Furthermore, the applicability of the developed SPCE was demonstrated by detecting Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ in tap water and lake water.
Ultrasensitive Non-Enzymatic Glucose Sensors Based on Hybrid Reduced Graphene Oxide and Carbonized Silk Fabric Electrodes Decorated with Cu Nanoflowers

Abstract:The preparation of substrate with high specific surface area and conductivity is very important in the development of non-enzymatic glucose sensors. This study presents a non-enzymatic glucose sensor electrode based on a hybrid reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbonized silk fabric (CSF) substrate obtained by immersing silk fabric in a graphene oxide solution and carbonizing at 950 °C in an Ar atmosphere, and then decorating the rGO/CSF surface with Cu nanoflowers by electrodeposition. The optimum Cu-rGO/CSF sensor electrode exhibits high glucose sensitivities of 6613.3 μA mM−1 cm−2 and 1541.7 μA mM−1 cm−2 with linear responses over separate glucose concentration ranges of 0.05–4.0 mM and 4.0–7.0 mM due to the rGO/CSF substrate has high specific surface area, good conductivity and the Cu nanoflowers have high catalytic activity. The electrode also provides a lower limit of detection of 2.27 μM at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 and high stability in the air. These results demonstrate that the proposed electrode material facilitates the development of simple and accurate non-enzymatic glucose sensors.

Abstract:Environmentally friendly and recycled polydopamine-functionalized electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan nanofibers (PVA/CS/PDA) were prepared through a low-energy-consumption procedure. The PDA coating endows PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers with good water stability. The PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers have a fibrillar and porous structure that is favorable for Cu(II) to access the active sites of the nanofibers. The adsorption isotherm and kinetics data preferably conform to the Liu isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of Cu(II) ions by PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers from the Liu isotherm model is 326.5 mg g −1 . The PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers exhibit higher adsorption capacity than some other reported adsorbents. The adsorption mechanism study demonstrates that the Cu(II) adsorption is mainly ascribed to the complexation of Cu(II) with the imino, amino, and hydroxy moieties in PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers. The nanofibers can be employed for 5 cycles without significantly deteriorating performance. More interestingly, a fluorometry method based on the oxidation mimic enzyme activity of Cu(II) was developed to detect low concentrations of Cu(II) using the nanofibers as an adsorbent to preconcentrate Cu(II). The limit of detection is 0.42 mg L −1 . The successful removal and detection of Cu(II) in Pearl River and mineral water samples demonstrates the great potential of PVA/CS/PDA nanofibers to remediate Cu(II)-polluted water.
