Abstract:We consider a pinning model in correlated Gaussian random environments. For the model that is disorder relevant, we study its intermediate disorder regime and show that the rescaled partition functions converge to a non-trivial continuum limit in the Skorohod setting and in the Stratonovich setting, respectively. Our results partially confirm the prediction of Weinrib and Halperin for disorder relevance/irrelevance.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to study the behavior of the pinning model in the relevant Gaussian random environment. In particular, when the model is sensitive to disorder, whether the rescaled partition functions converge to a non - trivial continuous limit in the intermediate disorder region. Specifically, the author explores whether the rescaled partition functions converge to a continuous limit represented by a chaos expansion in the Skorohod and Stratonovich settings respectively.
### Background and Problem Description of the Paper
The pinning model is a stochastic polymer model used to study phase transitions and critical phenomena. In this model, the polymer chain is attracted to a specific location (the pinning point), and this attraction can be random. When the disorder in the environment (i.e., the randomness of the attraction) is correlated, how to describe the macroscopic behavior of the system is an important scientific problem.
### Main Research Contents
1. **Definition of the Pinning Model**:
- This model defines a renewal process through the Gibbs transformation, where the probability distribution of the renewal time interval is:
\[
P_\tau(\tau_1 = n)=\frac{L(n)}{n^{1 + \alpha}}, \quad n\geq1,
\]
where \(L(\cdot)\) is a slowly varying function and \(\alpha>0\).
2. **Correlation of Disorder**:
- The disorder in the environment is represented by a set of Gaussian random variables \(\omega_n\), and its covariance function \(\gamma(n)\) satisfies:
\[
\gamma(n)\lesssim|n|^{2H - 2}\wedge1, \quad n\in\mathbb{Z},
\]
where \(H\in(1/2, 1)\) is the Hurst parameter.
3. **Predictions of Disorder Correlation and Irrelevance**:
- According to the prediction of Weinrib and Halperin, when \(\alpha>\min(p, 1)/2\), the disorder is correlated; when \(\alpha<\min(p, 1)/2\), the disorder is uncorrelated. Here, \(p\) is the decay exponent of disorder correlation.
4. **Main Results**:
- The author proves that under appropriate scaling, the rescaled partition functions converge to a non - trivial continuous limit in the Skorohod and Stratonovich settings respectively.
- These results partially verify the predictions of Weinrib and Halperin regarding disorder correlation and irrelevance.
### Conclusion
Through rigorous mathematical analysis, this paper proves the weak convergence of the rescaled partition function of the pinning model in the intermediate disorder region in the relevant Gaussian random environment. This not only provides a theoretical basis for understanding the disorder effect in complex systems but also lays a foundation for further research on other related models.
