Abstract:(1-x)(Bi0.5Na0.5) TiO3-xBa(Zr0.055Ti0.945)O-3 (0 <= x <= 0.12) lead-free ceramics have been prepared and the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) is confirmed to be x = 0.06-0.09. The MPB composition x = 0.07 shows enhanced pyroelectric properties from room temperature (RT) to the depolarization temperature T-d (87 degrees C), with the pyroelectric coefficient p = 0.057 mu C/cm(2) degrees C and the figures of merit F-i = 203 pm/V, F-v = 0.022 m(2)/C, and F-d = 10.5 mu Pa-1/2 at RT and the highest pyroelectric coefficient of 2.21 mu C/cm(2) degrees C near T-d. These values are superior to other lead-based/lead-free pyroelectric ceramics. Enhanced pyroelectric properties can be explained by the effects of MPB and ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition. (C) 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Abstract:Lead free ferroelectric ceramics, (1-x)(0.97Na(0.5)K(0.5)NbO(3)+0.03LiTaO(3))+xBiInO(3)[(1-x)(KNN+LT)+xBI] ternary solid solution system were prepared by conventional solid state reaction method. The polycrystal structure, dielectric and piezo-/ferro-electric properties were systematically characterized. The results show that the (1-x)(KNN+LT)+xBI ceramics present pure perovskite structure in which the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases coexist at room temperature. With increasing of BI content, the tetragonal phase and the lattice parameter increase gradually and the Curie temperature T-c decreases, while the phase transition temperature To-t from orthorhombic to tetragonal phase increases. With more BI addition, the electric properties decrease with the appearance of oxygen vacancy due to Bi loss at high temperature. The optimal properties are achieved in the (1-x)(KNN+LT)+xBI ceramics (x=0.0015) with the Curie temperature T-c= 400 degrees C, phase transition temperature To-t =126 degrees C, piezoelectric constant d(33) =160 pC/N, remnant polarization P-r=19.26 mu C/cm(2) and coercive field E-c =7.75 kV/cm.

Abstract:The crystal structures, piezoelectric property, dielectric transition and electric-field-induced changes in the structures and dielectric constant of (0.8−x)PbTiO3–xBiFeO3–0.2BaZrO3 (0.3 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) ceramics near the morphotropic phase boundary have been studied. All the ceramics could be indexed on the base of a tetragonal symmetry. The increasing concentration of BiFeO3 induces a reduction in the c/a ratio, ranged from 1.022 for x = 0.3 to 1.007 for x = 0.4. Accordingly, the piezoelectric coefficient (d33) reaches a maximum value at x = 0.34 (d33, 138 pC/N). A relaxor-type dielectric anomaly could be found for all the ceramics. The temperature of the maximum dielectric constant (T m) at 1 MHz and the degree of the diffuseness for the dielectric anomaly (δ) increase with BiFeO3 concentration, from 544 and 96 K for x = 0.3 to 574 and 154 K for x = 0.4. After poling, the ceramic for x = 0.34 shows an increase in the c/a ratio and an obvious decrease in the dielectric constant.

Abstract:Composite ceramics based on non-stoichiometric 0.94Na(0.4)8Bi(0.44)TiO(3) (NBT-BT) and ZnO, (1-x)NBT-BT:xZnO with x = 0 similar to 0.3 are prepared and investigated. The phase structure changes from tetragonal-dominated for x = 0 to rhombohedral-dominated for x > 0. The domain structure simultaneously evolves from nanodomain to macrodomain. At room temperature, the x = 0 ceramic has a pinched polarisation-electric field (P-E) loop, whereas x > 0 ceramics demonstrate square-shaped P-E loops with a maximum P-r of 30.6 mu C/cm(2) of x = 0.2. Moreover, ceramics with x = 0.1 and 0.2 have enhanced pyroelectric coefficients in a wide temperature range with full width at half maximums of 31 degrees C and 15.5 degrees C and peak values of 29.2 x 10(-4) and 100.7 x 10(-4) C/(m(2).K), respectively. The results are explained based on the stress-induced room temperature relaxor-ferroelectric transition. This work affirms that forming composites is an effective way to tune the electrical properties of NBT-based materials.

Abstract:( )It is an urgency to find capable lead-free piezoelectric ceramics to show effort towards environmental protection. Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT)-based piezoelectric ceramics is one of the most promising lead-free systems, for which compositional modification is an efficient way to enhance the piezoelectric performance. In this work, lead-free 0.82(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-(0.18-x)BaTiO3-x(Bi0.5Na0.5)(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O-3 ceramics were synthesized by a conventional solid state reaction method. Polarization and strain hysteresis loops implies a phase transition from FE (ferroelectric phase) to ER (ergodic relaxor). An electric field induced high strain of 0.28% occurred at x= 0.0275, which was attributed to the coexistence of FE and ER phases. It is considered that our work can help to understand the complex phenomenon observed in BNT-based lead-free system. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.935Ba0.065Ti1−x(Fe0.5Sb0.5)xO3 (BNBT6.5–xFS, x=0.005, 0.010, 0.015, 0.020) were prepared by a conventional solid sintering technique. The effects of B-site doping of (Fe, Sb) on the phase structure, microstructure, dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of BNBT6.5 ceramics were systematically investigated. Results showed that (Fe, Sb) can completely diffuse in the BNBT6.5 lattice in the all studied components. The addition of (Fe, Sb) destroyed the ferroelectric long-range order, and thus promoted the electric field induced strain response. The maximum electric field-induced strain (Smax=0.37%) with normalized strain (d33*=Smax/Emax=454pm/V) at an applied electric field of 80kV/cm was obtained at x=0.015. Temperature dependent measurements of both polarization and strain from room temperature to 120°C suggested that the origin of the large strain is due to a reversible field-induced ergodic relaxor to ferroelectric phase transformation.
Enhanced pyroelectric performance in Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-xNa0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 lead-free ferroelectric ceramics via composition and microstructure engineering

Abstract:Lead-free pyroelectric materials with high room-temperature pyroelectric coefficient (p) and depolarization temperature (Td) are in great demand for uncool infrared detectors. However, the state-of-the-art unleaded pyroelectric ceramics are confronted with challenge of increasing room-temperature pyroelectric coefficient at cost of declining depolarization temperature. Herein, we report that high room-temperature p of 5.28 × 10−4C m − 2 K−1 with Td of 175 °C can be simultaneously achieved by introducing Na0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 into Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 solid solution system. Structure resolution revealed that the diffusing of Na0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 not only modifies the structures of TiO6 octahedra and wipes the P4bm nanodomains from the long-range ordered R3c phase, resulting in high remnant polarizations and enhanced room-temperature p, but also facilitates the electron transfer in the formation of Ti-O covalent bond and enhances the strength of Ti-O covalent bonds to improve the stability of crystal structure, leading to the enhancement of Td. Combined with enhanced room-temperature pyroelectric coefficient and high depolarization temperature, the Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-xNa0.5Bi4.5Ti4O15 systems could be a promising lead-free pyroelectrics for uncool infrared detection.

Abstract:Lead-free piezoelectric ceramics of (1 - x)Ba0.70 Ca0.30TiO3xBiFeO3 [(1 - x)BCTxBF, x = 00.065] have been prepared and investigated. The ceramics with x = 0.06 have diphasic tetragonal and orthorhombic crystal structures, whereas tetragonal phase is suppressed by the introduction of BF. As a result, the composition with x = 0.065 is found to have diphasic pseudocubic and orthorhombic phases. Significantly composition-dependent grain size is observed. With increasing x from 0 to 0.065, the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition temperature decreases monotonically from 128 degrees C to 50 degrees C, accompanied by enhanced ferroelectric relaxor behavior, as indicated by the widened diffused phase transition temperature. The room temperature polarizationelectric field (PE) hysteresis loops and strainelectric field (SE) curves indicate that the ferroelectricity enhances slightly and reaches the maximum near x = 0.05, and then weakens with increasing x. On the other hand, the piezoelectric coefficient (d33) and electromechanical coupling coefficient (kp) decrease simultaneously with increasing x, whereas the mechanical quality factor (Qm) reaches the maximum near x = 0.05. The structure-property relationship is discussed intensively. Our results may be helpful for further understanding and designing BaTiO3-related lead-free ferroelectric/piezoelectric materials.

Abstract:The microstructure and electric properties of the rhombohedral–tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition 0.8Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3–0.2Bi1/2K1/2TiO3 have been investigated. X-ray and electron diffraction results substantiate the co-existence of tetragonal and rhombohedral phases. The ferroelectric domains were clearly observed by electron microscopy. The oxygen octahedron tilting of the samples was studied by SAED. Both saturated polarization–electric field and butterfly shaped strain–electric field hysteresis loops prove that the MPB composition shows typical ferroelectric nature. The detailed microstructure–property characterization may shed light on the physical property of further work on BNT–BKT around morphotropic phase boundary.

Abstract:Temperature-dependent electrical properties of lead-free 0.94Bi(0.5)Na(0.5)TiO(3)-0.06BaTiO(3) (BNT-BT) ceramics were investigated. Below 100 degrees C, this rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase-boundary composition shows dominant ferroelectric order with typical ferroelectric polarization-electric field (P(E)) loop and butterfly bipolar strain-electric (S(E)) curve. Antiferroelectric order tends to prevail when temperature reaches about 100 degrees C, characterized by a pinched P(E) loop and altered bipolar S(E) butterfly. Near the ferroelectric-antiferroelectric transition temperature, the composition shows a giant bipolar and unipolar strain of 0.40% and 0.42%, respectively. The highest value of maximum strain divided by the applied field (i.e., S-max/E-max) reaches 700 pm/V at 100 degrees C. With a further increase of temperature to 200 degrees C, a slight decrease of the strain is observed. Especially, it is found that the hysteresis of the unipolar S(E) curve decreases with increasing temperature. These results may be helpful for further understanding and thus designing new BNT-based lead-free piezoelectric systems.

Abstract:(Pb0.97La0.02)(ZrxSn0.89−xTi0.11)O3 (x = 0.60, 0.62, 0.64, 0.66, 0.68, 0.70, 0.72, and 0.74) ceramics with the compositions in tetragonal antiferroelectric (AFE) region, near the morphotropic phase boundary, were prepared by using the conventional solid‐state reaction process. Their electric field‐induced phase transitional behaviors, composition‐ and temperature‐dependent dielectric, depolarization, and pyroelectric properties were investigated systematically. The AFE to ferroelectric phase switching field EA‐F decreased with increasing x, while depolarization temperature Td increased with a linear relationship of Td = 842x‐483. Enhanced pyroelectric coefficient with a value of 12.1 μC/cm2/K was obtained at 88°C for the ceramics with x = 0.68, which was four times larger than the reported values. Composition‐dependent pyroelectric response over 24°C–140°C was realized by changing x from 0.60 to 0.74. The results also suggested that the enhanced pyroelectric response near Td was accompanied by a release of large Pr, caused by an induced ferroelectric to AFE phase transition.

Abstract:Lead-free (1 - x)Bi(0.5)Na(0.5)TiO(3-)xBiCoO(3) (x = 0, 0.015, 0.025, 0.03, 0.035, 0.04, and 0.06) piezoelectric ceramics have been synthesized and their structure and electric properties have been investigated systemically. The rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) locates near x = 0.025-0.035. For the ceramics with x = 0.025, the saturated polarization (P-s), remnant polarization (P-r), coercive field (E-c), strain(S), piezoelectric constant (d(33)), and thickness electromechanical coupling factor (k(t)) are 40.6 mu C/cm(2), 35.4 mu C/cm(2), 5.25 kV/mm, 0.11%, 107pC/N, and 0.45, respectively. The low temperature humps of relative dielectric constant, which is indicative of TR-T, are becoming inconspicuous gradually with the increasing x and almost disappear at x 0.04. The depolarization temperature T-d decreases first and then increases with the increasing x. Our results may be helpful for further work on Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics. Abstract:Bismuth sodium titanate (Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3 (BNT) lead-free ceramics containing multiple A-site dopants were synthesized byconventional ceramic processing, and their electrical properties and mechanical properties were investigated to reveal the effects of the multiple A-site dopants on the BNT-based ceramics. In the case of (1-x)(Bi1/2Na1/2)0.900Ba0.088Sr0.012TiO3-x(Bi1/2K1/2)TiO3(x=0-0.14) ceramics, the maximum of the piezoelectric constant d33 (168 pC/N) was obtained for the x=0.10 composition. The dielec-tric constant ε33T/ε0, loss tangent tan δ and planar electromechanical coupling factor kp at 1 kHz and room temperature are 1221, 0.0361and 0.2281, respectively. The Curie temperature first increases with increasing x value and reaches the maximum value of 300℃ at the x=0.12 composition, then decreases with further increasing of the x value. Abstract:The piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of (1-x)[0.852(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-0.110(Bi0.5K0.5)TiO3-0.038BaTiO(3)]-xLiNbO(3) (x=0,0.02 and 0.05, abbreviated as BNBK-LN) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were prepared by conventional ceramic processing. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) on the samples reveals that Li+ and NW5+ ions diffuse into the Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) lattices (A-site and B-site) and form a solid solution with a single perovskite structure. All the samples could be sintered at 1160 degrees C, with density being on the order of >95%. The ceramics with x=0.02 exhibit the highest properties, with piezoelectric coefficient being on the order of d(33)=245 pC/N, while the electromechanical coupling factors are found to be K-p=0.20 and k(t)=0.495, respectively. The dielectric, pyroelectric, electromechanical and ferroelectric behaviors were investigated as a function of temperature. It is found that the depolarization temperature T-d shows a strong dependence on the content of LiNbO3 addition, shifting to lower temperature with doping.
Dielectric and piezoelecrtic properties of lead-free (Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3–NaNbO3 ceramics

Abstract:In this paper, lead-free [Na0.5(1+x)Bi0.5(1−x)](Ti(1−x)Nbx)O3 (x = 0–0.08) ceramics were fabricated by using conventional ceramic technique. The phase structure of the solid solution has been determined by the X-ray diffraction. Dielectric study revealed that the dielectric relaxor behavior becomes more obviously by doping of NaNbO3 into (Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3. The samples in the composition range from x = 0.01 to 0.02 exhibited excellent electrical properties, piezoelectric constant d33 = 80–88pC/N; electromechanical planar coupling coefficients kp = 17.92%. The results show that the [Na0.5(1+x)Bi0.5(1−x)](Ti(1−x)Nbx)O3 ceramics are one of the promising lead-free materials for ultrasonic transducer applications.

Abstract:Ferroelectric ceramics with the composition of (1-x)(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-x(Bi(0.5)K0.5)TiO3 (x=0.135 similar to 0.24) were synthesized by conventional mixed-oxide technique. Their phase structures as well as the ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties have been investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results demonstrate that the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) of this system lies in the composition range of x=0.165 similar to 0.225. Examination of the piezoelectric behavior indicates that the ceramics exhibit high piezoelectric constant d(33) near the MPB compositions. The interrelated mechanism was discussed. In addition, airproof-sintering method was applied and the influence was discussed.

These results may be helpful for further understanding and thus designing new BNT-based lead-free piezoelectric systems.

Abstract:The electrical properties and conduction behavior of (Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 ) 0.94+ x Ba 0.06 TiO 3 ( x = 0, 0.01; denoted as BNBT, BNBT + 0.01BN) ceramics were studied. Both samples demonstrated a single-phase perovskite structure. Compared to the BNBT sample, the BNBT + 0.01BN sample showed a reduction in grain size and decreased values for Curie temperature ( T m ) and depolarization temperature ( T d ). Normalized spectroscopic plots of M "/ M " max and Z "/ Z " max revealed a single relaxation peak. The complex impedance plots were modeled using an equivalent circuit, and the grain resistance ( R g ) decreases with increasing temperature. At 500 °C, the R g values for BNBT and BNBT + 0.01BN samples were 339.97 and 886.98 kΩ × cm, respectively. Jonscher's law was applied to fit the AC conductivity, and the obtained n values indicated different conduction mechanisms for the two samples. Additionally, the conduction activation energy ( E con ) for DC conductivity followed the Arrhenius relation. Introducing a small (Bi,Na) excess suppresses oxygen and cation vacancies, significantly increasing resistivity. Consequently, the BNBT + 0.01BN sample exhibited excellent remanent polarization ( P r ) of 34.2 μC/cm 2 and piezoelectric constant ( d 33 ) of 135 pC/N.

Abstract:Here we report the 0.94(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3–0.06Ba(Zr0.055Ti0.945)O3 (0.94BNT–0.06BZT) lead-free ceramics was synthesized by two-step solid state reaction route. The structural, dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric and electromechanical properties of the ceramics were studied, and showed excellent electric properties (Ps = 39.9 μC/cm2, Pr = 33.7 μC/cm2, Ec = 2.79 kV/mm, S = 0.20%, d33 = 174 pC/N, kp = 0.33). The depolarization temperature (Td) of the ceramics is about 65 °C, which is determined from the first hump of relative dielectric constant. The electromechanical factor kp disappears at 65 °C, is consistent with the depolarization temperature (Td) and the ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition temperature (Tfe−afe) determined from the temperature-dependent P–E and bipolar S–E curves. These results indicate the 0.94BNT–0.06BZT ceramics has a good thermal stability in range of − 60–60 °C, and meets the actual demand.

Abstract:Lead-free 0.94Bi(0.5)Na(0.5)TiO(3)-(0.06-x)BaTiO3-xK(0.5)Na(0.5)NbO(3) (x=0-0.06) ceramics were prepared. All these compositions have a structure close to the rhombohedral-tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) and good electric properties at room temperature. No significant composition dependence of ferroelectric property can be established, whereas a dependence of piezoelectric properties can be observed, e.g. the piezoelectric coefficient (d(33)), planar coupling factor (k(p)), and field-induced strain (S) increase with increasing x when x < 0.01 and then tend to decrease. The highest d(33), k(p), and bipolar strain are 118 pC/N, 0.29, and 0.32%, respectively, in the composition with x=0.01. The results not only indicate that BNT-BT-KNN lead-free piezoceramics can persist in the structure close to MPB in a wide composition range but that they may also be helpful for further investigation on lead-free piezoceramics.
