Abstract:Effects of a novel M1 agonist, AF102B (cis-2-methylspiro(1,3-oxathiolane-5,3')quinuclidine HCl), on ambulation and water drinking behavior were examined using an Ambulo-Drinkometer. AF64A-treated rats, an animal model for senile dementia of the Alzheimer type (SDAT), and non-treated control rats were used. AF102B was administered orally via tap water at a concentration of 0.01% and 0.1% for an experimental therapeutic dose and a supramaximal dose, respectively. Four-week administration of 0.01% AF102B did not affect either ambulatory activity or water drinking activity in non-treated rats. Successive 0.1% AF102B administration for 4 weeks produced a significant decrease in drinking activity as compared with non-treated control rats. In AF64A-treated rats, AF102B did not change the cholinotoxin AF64A-induced high activity in ambulation. However, a decrease in water drinking activity was observed after 0.1% AF102B administration, as in non-treated rats. These results suggest that therapeutic dose of AF102B do not produce any changes in the spontaneous moter activity and water drinking behavior in normal rats or the animal model for SDAT. Several investigators reported that AF102B (FSK-508; cis-2-methylspiro (1,3-oxathiolane-5,3') quinuclidine HCl) had the property of a relatively specific muscarinic agonist of the M1-type This novel M1 agonist, AF102B, also exerted and ameliorating effect on experimental amnesia; in a T-maze, radial-arm maze task and passive avoidance tasks. AF102B improves the cognitive impairment in various animal models for memory disorders including senile dementia of the Alzheimer type (SDAT). Erectile dysfunction in patients in a cardiac rehabilitation program

Abstract:Introduction and objectives: Erectile dysfunction is common in patients with coronary heart disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of, etiological factors associated with, and treatment results obtained in this condition in patients participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program. Methods: The study included 420 male patients with heart disease who were taking part in a multicomponent therapeutic program that involved physical exercise, psychological techniques and risk factor reduction. Results: Overall, erectile dysfunction was present in 216 patients (52.6%) and there were clear associations with age (P< .001), diabetes mellitus (P< .001), arterial hypertension (P=.029), cigarette smoking (P=.044) and treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (P=.003) and diuretics (P< .001). However, there were no links to treatment with beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, statins or antiplatelet agents. There were direct associations with trait anxiety (P=.009) and state anxiety (P=.006) and with depression (P=.003). The final multivariate analysis model included diabetes mellitus, smoking, diuretic use, state anxiety and age as significant variables. Only 59 patients agreed to treatment with a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, with positive results in 45 (76.27%). Treatment was contraindicated in 41 patients because they were taking nitrates for myocardial ischemia. The remaining patients expressed no interest, had relationship problems or were worried about complications. Conclusions: The incidence of erectile dysfunction was substantial. The condition was directly associated with risk factors for atherosclerosis, treatment, and psychological disorders (i.e., anxiety and depression). Relationship problems and the fear of complications may explain why many patients refused to take phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors.

Abstract:Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are comorbidities of great therapeutic and prognostic importance in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Knowledge about their prevalence, associated factors and influence on optimal medical therapy are needed to best manage this population. Methods: This is a unicentric cross-sectional analysis of 869 patients enrolled in a CAD registry in Brazil. To be included, patients needed to have a previous coronary artery revascularization procedure (either percutaneous or surgical), documented previous acute coronary syndrome, or known coronary stenosis greater than 50%. CKD was defined as creatinine clearance 6.5%. Results: Overall, mean age was 64.7 years, 261 (30%) were women, 528 (61%) had previous myocardial infarction, and 547 (63.4%) had a previous revascularization procedure. DM was prevalent in 449 (51.7%) patients and CKD in 280 (32.2%). Both comorbidities were concomitant in 151 (17.4%) patients. On multivariate analysis, CKD was correlated to female sex (OR 2.94; 95%CI 1.88-4.67), age (OR 1.20; 95%CI 1.16-1.23), BMI (OR 0.80, 95%CI 0.76-0.84), and HDL-cholesterol (OR 0.97; 95%CI 0.96-0.99). DM was associated with age (OR 1.02, 95%CI 1.00-1.04), BMI (OR 1.05, 95%CI 1.01-1.08), high blood pressure (OR 2.1, 95%CI 1.39-3.21), and heart rate (OR 1.02, 95%CI 1.00-1.03). Concomitant presence of CKD and DM was associated with age (OR 1.09, 95%CI 1.06-1.13) and left ventricular ejection fraction (OR 0.97, 95%CI 0.95-0.98). Patients with DM were more likely to receive ACE inhibitors or ARBs (79.3% x 67.1%, p< 0.001) and calcium channel blockers (41.9% x 31.2%, p=0.001). Patients with DM and CKD had higher use of nitrates (38.4% x 25.6%, p=0.002). There was no difference in the prescription of antithrombotic drugs, beta-blockers or statins between groups. Conclusion: DM and CKD are both very prevalent comorbidities in patients with CAD. They are associated with age and risk markers such as high blood pressure and lower left ventricular ejection fraction. Although typically these populations are undertreated in others registries, this fact was not observed in our study.

Abstract:Sexual dysfunction is common in males with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but yet the prevalence and specific relationship between CKD and sexual dysfunction, especially premature ejaculation (PE), remain to be investigated in China; This study aims to examine the prevalence and association between CKD and sexual dysfunction in male patients in China; In this cross-sectional, non-interventional, observational study conducted at a single center. 72 male patients with CKD were enrolled. Data collection included socio-demographic information, assessments via the 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5), the Chinese version of the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool, the Patient Health Quentionnnaire-9 and the General Anxiety Disorder-7. Data analysis was performed using R version 3.5.2 and SPSS software version 25.0; Among the 72 CKD patients, 56.9% experienced erectile dysfunction and 29.2% had PE. Various factors including estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate, Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio, psychological aspects, medication use were found to be associated with sexual dysfunction in these CKD patients; Sexual dysfunction is prevalent in males with CKD and is, influenced by multiple factors. It is important for clinicians to focus on sexual dysfunction in this patient group and further investigate its underlying mechanisms.

Abstract:ObjectivesTo investigate anxiety, depression, and related factors in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) receiving maintenance hemodialysis and provide a reference for the establishment of a healthier life for such patients.MethodsA total of 81 patients were enrolled in the study. Qualified participants filled out self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and depression self-assessment scale (SDS) questionnaires as well as assessments of health knowledge and health self-efficacy. Linear regression analysis was performed to relate demographic factors, lifestyle habits, and nutrition parameters to SDS and SAS score indices.ResultsThe mean SAS and SDS score indices for the 81 patients were 52.96 and 46.71, respectively; 56 patients (69.1 %) had a depressive disorder (SDS score ≥ 50), and 31 patients (36.9 %) had anxiety symptoms (SAS score ≥ 50). SAS score index correlated with gender (p < .05) and history of alcohol use (p < .01), whereas SDS score index correlated with administration of erythropoietin (EPO) (p < .05) as well as gender and history of alcohol use.ConclusionHistory of alcohol consumption may predict less depressive symptoms and more anxiety among Chinese patients living in a northeastern Chinese city with ESRD. EPO administration may reduce anxiety in patients with ESRD. Female patients were more prone to anxiety, whereas males were more likely to show symptoms of depression. These factors should be evaluated by nephrologists treating patients with ESRD.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the related factors with erectile dysfunction (ED) of male patients after kidney transplantation.Methods Fifty treated male patients by kidney transplantation at least half a year,with serum creatinine level under 133umol/l,were enrolled in the study.Structured questionnaires were administrated by trained interviewers.International index of erectile function-5 (IIEF-5) was employed to evaluate ED before and after kidney transplantation,and levels of sex hormones were measured.Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship of sexual dysfunction and other medical indexes.Results The prevalence of ED in patients was 82%(41/50) before kidney transplantation and it decreased to 52%(26/50) after transplantation (P＜0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed age,duration of haemodialysis,style of anastomosis,CsA treatment were independent risk factors for ED in the treated patients with kidney transplantation (P＜0.05).Their relative risks were 3.06,2.03,3.93 and 2.74 respectively.Conclusion Occurrence of ED was highly prevalent among kidney transplantation patients and its pathogenesis was complex and multifactors-involving.Age,duration of haemodialysis,style of anastomosis and CsA treatment were chief risk factors of erectile function.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Although erectile dysfunction is frequently seen in hemodialysis patients, little information is documented about the efficacy of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors and almost all the articles evaluate sildenafil. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of chronic low dose tadalafil in this group of patients.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionairre was administered to patients under hemodialysis program. A total of 58 patients with ED (International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) score < 26), each having a stable partner, between 18-60 years, receiving routine outpatient HD matched the inclusion criteria and divided into two equal groups; placebo and tadalafil 5 mg/3 days. Changes of the IIEF score was recorded after one month of treatment.RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 50.0±9.93 years. Duration of dialysis was 57.5(12-108) months. Hemoglobin (g/dl) and creatinin clearence (ml/Min) values of placebo and tadalafil groups were not significantly different; 10.9(8.8-14) vs 10.7(8.9-13) and 5.7±1.3 vs 6.0±1.4 respectively. There was a statistically significant increase for all subgroups related erectile dysfunction 9.28±4.17 vs 21.07±5.99 (p=0.037), intercourse satisfaction 8(3-9) vs 10(5-15) (p<0.001), orgasmic function 4(1-10) vs 8(4-10) (p<0.001), sexual desire 4(2-10) vs 7(3-9) (p<0.001) and general satisfaction 5(2-9) vs 6(2-9) (p<0.001) with low dose of tadalafil at the end of four weeks without any major side effects. There was only a significant increase in sexual desire 4(3-9) vs 6(4-10) (p<0.001),in placebo group with an insignificant change in all other IIEF domains. Total IIEF score of the placebo group was insignificantly increased from 21.13±7.73 to 21.99±7.04 (p=0.771) while there was a statistically significant increase in tadalafil group; from 20.87±8.84 to 30.75±7.04 (p<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Tadalafil 5 mg once in three days is appear to be efficacious and well tolerated for the treatment of ED in hemodialysis patients.
Impotence and chronic renal failure: a study of the hemodynamic pathophysiology

Abstract:A retrospective multi-institutional study was performed to document and characterize the arterial vascular disease in the hypogastric-cavernous arterial bed and/or veno-occlusive dysfunction of the corpora cavernosa in patients with end stage renal disease. We evaluated 20 impotent patients (mean age 40 +/- 9 years) with chronic renal failure using pharmaco-cavernosometry and pharmacocavernosography (4 also underwent pharmaco-arteriography). Patients were divided into groups based on the treatment (14 with renal transplantation and 6 with hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis), as well as by history of vascular risk factors (16 with and 4 without risk factors). Of the patients 19 revealed abnormal intracavernous pressure responses to repeated intracavenous injections of vasoactive agents implying vascular disease of the penis. Cavernous artery occlusive disease was found in 78% of the patients. All patients who underwent arteriography had diffuse atherosclerotic disease of the distal penile arteries. Corporeal veno-occlusive dysfunction was found in 90% of the patients, of whom 60% had diffuse pan-cavernous leakage involving the dorsal, cavernous and crural veins, glans penis and corpus spongiosum. This renal failure-associated vascular disease of the penis was found to occur independently of the presence of known systemic atherosclerotic vascular risk factors. Patients who underwent early treatment of the uremia by renal transplantation had vasculogenic impotence only in the case of rejection of the renal transplant, suggesting that early renal transplantation may delay or prevent the development of the penile vasculopathy. The most likely pathophysiology of the vascular impairment includes renal failure-associated atherosclerosis, and renal failure-associated hypoxia changes of the contractile (smooth muscle) and structural (collagen/elastin) components of the erectile tissue. Strategies for future research and clinical therapies are suggested.

Abstract:In this manuscript, we derive a concept for a four dimensional Required Navigation Performance by extending the existing lateral RNP into the vertical and along-track dimensions. Based on the target level of safety desired by ICAO and traffic on a given route, an along track requirement can be formulated for the traffic using the airway. In the vertical, accuracy requirements at the 99.5% level are already specified within the performance based navigation concept, however monitoring and alerting is not foreseen. Here, we suggest a monitoring technology based on satellite navigation that can also be used to ensure vertical separation in RVSM airspace.
[Erectile function of renal failure patients after hemodialysis or kidney transplantation: A comparative study]

Abstract:Objective: To study the changes in the erectile function of the male patients with renal failure after hemodialysis (HD) or kidney transplantation (KT) and explore the causes of these changes. Methods: From January 2015 to January 2021, 160 male patients with renal failure complaining of ED underwent HD (n = 80) or KT (n = 80) in the General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command. The patients were aged 25－45 (31.7 ± 4.8) years, 32 ± 4.5 years in the HD group and 31.4 ± 5.1 years in the KT group. We recorded the levels of serum T, E2, FSH and LH and the scores on IIEF-5, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) of the patients, and compared them between the two groups. Results: Compared with the patients in the HD group, those in the KT group showed a significantly higher T level (［7.45 ± 3.54］ vs ［17.75 ± 7.32］ nmol/L, P < 0.01) and a lower E2 level (［151.37 ± 20.89］ vs ［94.17 ± 40.79］ pmol/L, P < 0.01), but no statistically significant difference from the former group in the levels of FSH (［8.12 ± 5.12］ vs ［8.97 ± 2.36］ IU/L, P > 0.05) and LH (［5.16 ± 3.87］ vs ［4.69 ± 2.18］ IU/L, P > 0.05). There were fewer cases of severe ED in the KT than in the HD group (3.75% vs 16.25%, P < 0.05). Different degrees of anxiety and depression were observed in both groups, with fewer severe cases of anxiety (6.25% vs 30.00%, P < 0.05) and depression (6.25% vs 31.25%, P < 0.05) and more mild cases of anxiety (68.75% vs 47.50%, P < 0.05) and depression (70.00% vs 48.75%, P < 0.05) in the KT than in the HD group, but no statistically significant difference in the incidence of moderate anxiety (25.00% vs 22.50%, P > 0.05) and depression (23.75% vs 20.00%, P > 0.05) between the KT and HD groups. Conclusion: For male patients with renal failure, kidney transplantation can evidently improve erectile function, while hemodialysis has a poorer effect. The altered hormone levels, anxiety and depression of the patients are important causes of the changes in their erectile function.
Sex-specific differences in a large cohort of Brazilian incident dialysis patients over 12 years: A retrospective study

Abstract:The International Journal of Artificial Organs, Ahead of Print. Objective:Sex-specific differences in the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease, such as higher prevalence of women on pre-dialysis and men on chronic dialysis treatment, have been reported worldwide. In this regard, data from non-high-income countries are scarce. We aimed to compare the demographic, clinical, and dialysis characteristics of incident dialysis patients, both men and women, in a large cohort of Brazilian patients over a 12-year period.Methods:This was a multicentric retrospective cohort study coordinated by the Brazilian Society of Nephrology. The study included all adult incident dialysis patients in the Brazilian Dialysis Registry from January 2011 to December 2022. The variables studied encompassed age, skin color, education, CKD etiology, predialysis nephrologist care, dialysis characteristics, and geographic region. Additionally, the sample was analyzed for each of the three 4-year periods over the 12 years of data collection.Results:A total of 24,632 incident dialysis patients were included. Men were 59.1% of the dialysis population, remaining stable over the three 4-year periods. Besides other differences, women started dialysis younger (58.5 ± 16.2 years vs 59.5 ± 14.4 years; p < 0.001), had a lower educational level (less than 8 years at school: 54% vs 44%; p < 0.001), received more predialysis nephrologist care (46.2% vs 44.2%; p = 0.04), and had a higher prevalence of peritoneal dialysis (4.4% vs 3.5%; p = 0.03).Conclusion:We consistently observed a higher prevalence of men on dialysis and differences in demographic, clinical, and dialysis characteristics. The underlying reasons for these sex differences still necessitate further clarification.

Abstract:Both coronary artery disease (CAD) and erectile dysfunction (ED) are widespread illnesses that frequently coexist. Numerous triggering risk factors and pathophysiological mechanisms contribute to both diseases. Penile color Doppler ultrasound can serve as a crucial tool to evaluate penile arterial blood flow. Therefore, this study aims to assess the ED prevalence in CAD patients, to determine the socioeconomic and clinical profiles of the population, and to define risk factors of their development. The cross-sectional study included 100 male patients who were admitted to the coronary angiography (CAG) unit. Patients were asked if they had ED, and if present, it was graded using the International Index of Erectile Function 5. Right and left cavernosal arteries were examined using color Doppler and erection hardness to assess the peak systolic velocity (PSV) and end-diastolic velocity. Among the 52 cases that suffered from ED, most of the cases had mild grades (38.5%). All cases without ED (100%) had penile artery Doppler PSV findings ≥30 (cm/s) with an average Doppler PSV of 48.02 ± 7.49 cm/s for the right cavernosal arteries and 47.4 ± 7.17 cm/s for the left cavernosal arteries. Yet, 71.2% of cases with ED had penile artery Doppler PSV findings <30 (cm/s) with an average Doppler PSV of 29.1 ± 7.57 cm/s for the right cavernosal arteries and 28.69 ± 7.11 cm/s for the left cavernosal arteries. Furthermore, by CAG, 50% of cases without ED had blockage not necessitating a coronary intervention (no significant disease) compared to 25% of cases with ED. There was positive correlation between advanced grade of ED and age (r = 0.327, P < 0.001 ), hypertension (r = 0.213, P = 0.033), DM (r = 0.253, P = 0.011), smoking (r = 0.202, P = 0.044), and severity of CAD (r = 0.332, P < 0.001 ). Patients with multivessel CAD have a significantly higher incidence and more severity of ED. Moreover, pathological penile vessels PSV (<25 or <30 cm/s) via Doppler ultrasound is mostly valuable as a noninvasive tool to define ED attributable to vascular impairment that may be antecedent to atherosclerosis in the coronary vessels.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the risk factors for penile arterial insufficiency (PAI), which is a known cause of erectile dysfunction (ED). Methods: Patients who attended our urology clinic complaining of ED for more than 6 months were prospectively enrolled in this study over 1-year period. Patient consent was taken and ethical committee approval. Complete medical history and thorough general and local examination including body mass index (BMI), Peyronie's disease (PD) and penile size measurements (length and girth) were done for all of them. Laboratory tests included testosterone, lipid profile and glycated haemoglobin (HA1c). A penile duplex ultrasound study (PDU) was done for all patients after intracavernosal injection (ICI) with alprostadil. Peak systolic velocity (PSV) and end-diastolic velocity (EDV) were measured after 15 min. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS. Results: A total of 440 patients were enrolled in this analysis. The mean age was 48(23-81), and the mean BMI was 30 (18-51). Older patients had lower PSV (r = -0.361, P = 0.000) and higher EDV (r = 0.174, P = 0.001), and both correlations were highly statistically significant. Diabetics had lower PSV (r = -0.318, P = 0.000) and higher EDV (r = 0.139, P = 0.008), which were also highly statistically significant. Smokers had lower PSV (r = -0.140, P = 0.008) and higher EDV (r = 0.178, P = 0.001), which were highly statistically significant. Men with larger penises measured skin to tip had lower EDV (r = -0.119, P = 0.024), which was less significant. Interestingly, there was neither a significant correlation between BMI and PSV (0.16, P = 0.745) nor a significant correlation between testosterone and PSV (0.029, P = 0.552). Also, there was no correlation between PSV and both dyslipidaemia and penile PD. Conclusions: Ageing, tobacco consumption, DM and hypertension seem to have a negative impact on penile haemodynamics, which was statistically significant. In our patients, there was no statistically significant effect on penile haemodynamics in patients with increased BMI, low testosterone or PD or according to the size of the penis.
Should Patients with Erectile Dysfunction Be Evaluated for Cardiovascular Disease?

Abstract:The landmark Massachusetts Male Ageing Study shed new light on the prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) and drew attention to ED as a disease of ageing. Over the years, ED has been linked to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in some patients. There is clear evidence that ED and CVD share and have a similar risk factor profile. CVD is one of the most recognizable causes of mortality and early detection coupled with prevention of mortality from CVD has been the prime interest of many researchers. Consequently, there has been a multidisciplinary curiosity regarding the proposal to use ED as a marker for future CVD. In fact, there have been several proposals to use ED as a screening tool for future CVD. We performed a comprehensive search of two main databases-PubMed and Cochrane Library using a combination of keywords such as acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease (CAD) and ED. Journal articles from January 2000 to June 2011 were reviewed. We included all articles discussing the relationship between ED and CVD in the English language. All the relevant randomized controlled trials, cohort and retrospective studies, and review articles were included in our overall analysis in an attempt to answer the question whether all patients with ED should be clinically evaluated for CVD. The results showed a link between ED and the development of future CVD in some patients, but ED was not shown to be an independent risk predictor that is any better than the traditional Framingham risk factors. Screening for CVD may, however, be rewarding in younger patients with severe ED and in patients with concurrent CVD risk factors.
[Lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with arterial hypertension. Cardiovascular risk and impact on their quality of life]

Abstract:Objetives: To determine the prevalence of erectile lower urinary tract symptoms in hypertensive patients, cardiovascular risk and the impact on quality of life. Material and methods: Setting: Health Center (Vilagarcia, Pontevedra). Period: April 2015-June 2017. Inclusion criteria: Hypertensive patient with informed consent. Measurements: sociodemographic variables, toxic habits, comorbidity, blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, analytical and examination parameters. Questionaries: International Prostate Symptom Scale (IPSS), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15) and quality of life in arterial hypertension (MINICHAL). Sample size: n=262 (± 6% accuracy, 95% confidence). Statistical analysis: Bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis. Informed consent and ethics committee approval were obtained (2024/237) RESULTS: The mean age was 65.84 (12.70), and mean hypertension duration of 13.25 (9.84) years. 76.7% reported lower tract urinary symptoms, 91.6% being mild. The bivariate analysis showed an association with the variables: age, educational level, profession, work activity, tobacco, benign prostatic hypertrophy, years of diagnosis, concomitant medication, Framingham-Wilson score, electrocardiogram, glycated hemoglobin, glomerular filtration (Crockroft-Gault), LDL-cholesterol, somatic manifestations (MINICHAL), erectile dysfunction. The multivariate analysis showed increased risk with:abdominal obesity, pathological electrocardiogram, high risk of Framingham-Wilson score, erectile dysfunction, use of hypouricemics agents and decreased with not smoking and use diuretics. Conclusions: Three quarters of hypertensive men presented lower urinary tract symptoms, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease early according to the Framingham-Wilson score. Other predictive factors were: abdominal obesity, tobacco, pathological electrocardiogram, high Framingham-Wilson score, erectile dysfunction, use of hypouricemics agents.
Relationship between quality of life and sociodemographic, clinical and lifestyle characteristics of patients undergoing hemodialysis

Abstract:Introduction: In chronic diseases, QoL depends on several factors such as the type and duration of the disease, its treatment and side effects, the severity of symptoms, medication effects, patient age, limitations and self-care capacity. In chronic kidney disease it has also become a measure of health outcome.Objective: assess the association between QoL and socioeconomic, lifestyle and clinical factors of patients on HD.Methods: This is a cross-sectional epidemiological census, carried out among 1,024 patients on hemodialysis from all hemodialysis units at the metropolitan region in the Espirito Santo's, Brazil . Sociodemographic, lifestyle and clinical characteristics data were used. QoL was assessed using the Short-Form health Survey-36 (SF-36). Data were analysed by multiple linear regression.Results: The best QoL was represented by mental health (72.16) and the worst QoL by the physical aspect (26.78). After multiple linear regression, predictors of QoL were identified, with emphasis on males, a predictor of better QoL for 5 of the 8 domains and the summaries of the physical and mental components. Education, associated with 5 domains, gives greater reference to income. Physical activity was a predictor of 7 of the 8 QoL domains and the summary of the physical component. Among the clinical variables, the number of complications is associated with 7 of the 8 domains and summaries of the physical and mental components.Conclusion: Male sex is highlighted as a predictor of better physical and mental health and elderly people with better mental health, despite the impairment in physical health. The absence of physical activity is associated with worse physical and mental health. Clinically, having 3 or more intradialytic complications was associated with worse physical and mental QoL.

Abstract:This article discusses physiological diagnostic methods in the intractable vasculitis, including Buerger's, Takayasu's and vasculo-Behçet disease. Clinical manifestations of these diseases depend on the lesions of the diseased arteries or veins such as obstruction of the extremities often occurring in Buerger's disease, the obstruction of aortic arch branches in Takayasu's disease and the deep vein thrombosis in vasculo-Behçet disease. Measurements of segmental blood pressure and flow allows a detection of peripheral vascular disease and non-invasive diagnostic techniques, such as the doppler ultrasonic techniques and strain-gauze plethysmography, permit accurate evaluation of arterial occlusive disease and estimation of its physiological significance. Noninvasive diagnostic techniques, together with clinical symptoms and physical examinations, make possible correct diagnosis and subsequently appropriate treatment.

Abstract:Striated muscles from Rana pipiens have been exposed for variable periods of time to Ringer solutions made hypertonic by addition of either sucrose or sodium chloride. The muscles have been rapid‐frozen and then prepared for electron microscopy by either freeze‐substitution, freeze‐fracture or cryoultramicrotomy.
