Abstract:In this work, a novel GNs/6F-S-BI-PAEK composite film modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was fabricated for the simultaneous determination of heavy metals by using polymer 6F-S-BI-PAEK to disperse and functionalize graphene oxide nanosheets (GNs). The prepared GNs/6F-S-BI-PAEK composite film modified electrode was well characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques. The optimum modification and determination conditions were selected. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) experiments were performed for selective and sensitive determination of Co2+, Pb2+ , Cd2+ and Zn2+ . Linear responses in the range of 0.5-60 mu g/L were obtained with the detection limit of 0.5 mu g/L. The 6F-S-BI-PAEK polymer film capsuling on the surface of GNS not only effectively prevented the agglomeration between the GNS, but also promoted to form a quite stable GNs/6F-S-BI-PAEK composite film on GCE. Moreover, the functionalized 6F-S-BI-PAEK film could be used to adsorb and enrich heavy ions effectively. The GNs/6F-S-BI-PAEK/GCE showed good reproducibility, stability, and was successfully employed for the accurate determination of C & oacute;(2+), Pb2+, Cd2+ and Zn2+ in spiked lake water samples with satisfactory recoveries.
Influence of phytase addition to poultry diets on phosphorus forms and solubility in litters and amended soils.

Abstract:Diet modification to decrease phosphorus (P) concentration in animal feeds and manures can reduce surpluses of manure P in areas of intensive animal production. We generated turkey and broiler litters from two and three flock trials, respectively, using diets that ranged from "high" to "low" in non-phytate phosphorus (NPP) and some of which contained feed additives such as phytase. Phosphorus forms in selected litters were analyzed by sequential chemical fractionation and solution (31)P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Selected litters were also incubated with four contrasting soils. Reducing dietary NPP and using phytase decreased total P in litters by up to 38%. Water-soluble phosphorus (WSP) in litters was decreased 21 to 44% by feeding NPP closer to animal requirement, but was not affected by phytase addition. Solution (31)P NMR spectroscopy showed that feeding NPP closer to requirement decreased orthophosphate in litters by an average of 38% and that adding phytase to feed did not increase the concentration of orthophosphate in litters. Phytase also decreased phytate P in litters by 25 to 38%, demonstrating that it increases phytate P hydrolysis. Incorporation of litters with soils at the same total P rate increased WSP in soils relative to the control; this increase was correlated to soluble P added with litters at 5 d, but not by 29 d. Changes in soil Mehlich-3 phosphorus (M3-P) were related to total P added in litter, rather than soluble P. We conclude that feeding NPP closer to requirement and using feed additives such as phytase decrease total P concentrations in litters, while having little effect on P solubility in litters and amended soils.

Abstract:N- ((bis (dimethyl amino) methylene) carbamothioyl) benzamide (NBMCB) was synthesized, characterized, and used as an ionophore for producing three novel ion-selective potentiometric sensors for Fe(III) determination. Firstly, using the molecular mechanic-based MMFF94 method, the most stable NBMCB's conformer and its isosteric complexes with various cations were determined. According to the Gibbs free energy results of the reaction, the thermodynamic complexation reactivity of Fe(III) and ligand was acceptable. These results were obtained by B3LYP approach and 6-31G(d,p) basis set that substituted for heavy metals by LanL2DZ basis set. We used UV-visible spectrophotometry for confirming NBMCB tendency to Fe(III). Generally, three diverse liquid membrane Ferric selective electrodes were obtained by the use of the specified ligand: classic with a liquid internal electrolyte-ferric selective electrode (LIE-FSE), solid state-FSE (SS-FSE), and coated wire-FSE (CW-FSE). The reactions exhibited Nernstian behavior across all electrodes. The limit of detection was enhanced for SS-FSE (3×10-9 M) and CW-FSE (3×10-7 M) in comparison with LIE-FSE (7×10-7 M). Lifetime of LIE-FSE was 8 weeks, while it was 10 weeks for SS-FSE and CW-FSE. Elimination of the internal solution reduced the limit of detection and prolonged the lifespan of the sensors. Also, three electrodes all had short response time of around 5-7 s. Abstract:The implementation of all-solid-state ion-selective electrodes for phenylethylamine (PEA) determination is described in this paper. The electrode was constructed using 4-carboxyphenylboric acid as an ionophore, potassium tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)p-henyl]borate as an ion exchanger and 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether as a plasticizer in the selective polymeric membrane. The solid-contact conductive layer between the polymer layer and gold wire (0.5 mm diameter) was fabricated by electro polymerizing poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) doped with polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS) for ion-to-electron transfer. The electrode exhibited a near-Nernstian response to PEA with the detection limit of 1 µM and stable responses in the pH operation range of 7.0–8.0 as well as the temperature range of 20 ∘C–40 ∘C. Experiments were carried out to investigate the response time, selectivity to common cations, reproducibility and life span of the developed electrodes. Fast response time of less than 8 s, good reproducibility and long-term stability were achieved by the electrodes. In addition, the electrode was tested in human plasma as background by using the standard addition method. The recovery rate close to 100% at 10−5 M PEA solution indicated the possibility to determine PEA in biologic fluids and pharmaceutical analyses.

Abstract:As a virtually indispensable metal ion for biological environments and human life, deficiency or accumulation of Fe3+ in the body can induce various biological disorders. It is of great significance to develop a rapid, reproducible, highly sensitive, and selective method for detecting Fe3+ ions. Herein, a kind of novel nanofibrous membrane prepared by electrospinning utilizing carboxyl-functionalized poly(arylene ether nitrile) (CPEN) as carrier of lanthanide sensor can serve as a simple and reliable fluorescence platform for identifying Fe3+ ions. The CPEN-Eu3+-Phen nanofibrous membrane emitted intense red fluorescence under UV irradiation with high quantum efficiency of 22.3%. Furthermore, CPEN-Eu3+-Phen exhibited excellent fluorescence stability under the NaCl concentrations of 0–1.0 M and pH of 1–14, ascribed to exceptional chemical durability of CPEN. Notably, the CPEN-Eu3+-Phen implied excellent reusable performance for detecting Fe3+ ions with more than 10 cycles of reuse. Moreover, the red fluorescence of nanofibrous membrane is notably quenched with addition of Fe3+ ions, and the detection limit for Fe3+ in aqueous solution is as low as 3.8 μM. More importantly, CPEN-Eu3+-Phen nanofibrous membrane can also be applied to the detection of Fe3+ ions in real lake water. In brief, these results indicated that CPEN-Eu3+-Phen nanofibrous membrane is expected to behave as a promising Fe3+ ion sensing material with high selectivity, sensitivity, and reusability in aqueous solution.Graphical abstractSummary: A convenient detecting platform for highly sensitive and selective sensing of Fe3+ was developed based on fluorescence nanofibrous membrane.

Abstract:Alginate‐based poly(ethyl‐methacrylate) polymeric membranes containing previously synthesized IOS, which are known to be selective against Fe3+, were prepared and their permeability against heavy metals such as Cd2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Hg2+ and Pb2+ were investigated. The membrane was most selective against the Fe3+ ion. Resultantly, this polymeric membrane sensor may be suitable to remove Fe3+ from a polluted aqueous environment. There are many advantages of using membranes in the separation of wastewater, but their uses are limited because they are not reusable due to blockages in the membrane. In this study, alginate‐based poly(ethyl‐methacrylate) (PEMA) polymeric membranes containing previously synthesized IOS, which are known to be selective against Fe3+, were prepared and their permeability against heavy metals such as Cd2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Hg2+ and Pb2+ were investigated. The properties of membranes characterized by UV‐Vis and FT‐IR spectrophotometry, were investigated with analysis techniques such as SEM, contact angle measurements, TG‐DTG, DSC and AFM. As a result of the measurements taken from the UV spectrophotometer of the filtrates passed through various aqueous ion solutions of the membranes as mentioned above, it was concluded that the ion to which the membrane was most selective was the Fe3+ ion. Moreover, it could be said that thanks to the repeated filtration processes the membrane prepared retained some Fe3+ ion in each measurement and could be used many times in the filtration process. Resultantly, it is possible to say that the polymeric Fe3+ membrane sensor produced may be suitable for use when it is necessary to remove Fe3+ ion from a polluted aqueous environment.

Bacteriol. 88:845–849. 1964.—Aerobacter aerogenes PRL-R3 possesses the genetic information to synthesize, in the presence of the appropriate inducer, at least three members of the family of ketopentokinases, two members of the family of pentitol dehydrogenases, and two members of the family of aldopentose isomerases. That is, d-xylulokinase, d-ribulokinase, l-ribulokinase, ribitol dehydrogenase, d-arabitol dehydrogenase, d-xylose (→ d-xylulose) isomerase, and l-arabinose (→ l-ribulose) isomerase activities were detectable within 4 hr after addition of inducer. The possibility that mutation and selection are involved in the formation of l-xylulokinase, l-arabitol dehydrogenase, d-arabinose (→ d-ribulose) isomerase and d-lyxose (→ d-xylulose) isomerase could not be eliminated, because 11 hr or more of incubation after the addition of inducer were required before the appearance of these enzyme activities. d-Xylulokinase activity was induced in less than 2 hr when d-xylose or d-arabitol were inducers, but 45 hr were required for the appearance of activity when xylitol was the inducer, and 83 hr were required when d-lyxose was the inducer. Likewise, the time required for induction of ribitol dehydrogenase was 2 hr for ribitol, 12 hr for d-arabinose, and 45 hr for xylitol. The time required for the appearance of enzyme activity correlated with the time required for the beginning of cell growth and substrate utilization.

Abstract:The rapid expansion of modern industry underscores the urgent need to address heavy metal pollution, which is a threat to human health and the environment. Efforts are underway to develop precise and cost‐effective technologies for detecting heavy metal ions (M+‐ion). One promising approach involves the use of conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) modified with triphenylamine (TPA) and perylene (Peryl), known as TPA‐Peryl‐CMP, which emits strong red fluorescence. Various analytical techniques, such as BET analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), were utilized to characterize the synthesized TPA‐Peryl‐CMP and understand its functional properties. In addition to its remarkable fluorescence behavior, TPA‐Peryl‐CMP shows promise as a sensor for Fe3+ ions using a turn‐off strategy. Due to its exceptional stability and robust π‐electron system, this platform demonstrates remarkable sensitivity and selectivity, significantly improving detection capabilities for specific analytes. Detailed procedures related to the mechanism for detecting Fe3+ ions were outlined for sensing Fe3+ ions, revealing a notably strong linear correlation within the concentration range of 0 to 3 μM, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9936 and an LOD of 20 nM. It is anticipated that the development of such a kind of TPA‐Peryl‐CMP will observe broader applications in the detection of various analytes related to environmental and biological systems, either directly or through further modifications. Abstract:Deficiency of the C3 convertase regulator Crry is embryonic lethal in mice unless C3 also is absent. For evaluation of the effect of local kidney Crry deficiency in the setting of an intact complement system, Crry(-/-)C3(-/-) mouse kidneys were transplanted into syngeneic C57BL/6 wild-type mice. These Crry-deficient kidneys developed marked inflammatory cell infiltration, tubular damage, and interstitial fibrosis, whereas similar changes were absent in control transplanted kidneys. Strong C3 deposition in the vessels and tubules that correlated significantly with measures of disease supported that complement activation was pathogenic in this model. Microarray studies showed upregulation of a number of chemokine and extracellular matrix genes, which were validated for CCL2 and CXCL10 mRNA and collagen III protein. The functional significance of these pathophysiologic findings was evaluated by removing both native kidneys, so the transplanted kidney alone provided renal function. Within 21 d of transplantation, seven of eight Crry-deficient kidneys in complement-sufficient wild-type hosts failed, compared with two of 13 controls (P = 0.001), with final blood urea nitrogen levels of 133.9 +/- 33.0 and 55.6 +/- 8.3 mg/dl, respectively (P = 0.015). These data show that mouse Crry is a critical complement regulator in the kidney. When absent, unrestricted complement activation occurs and quickly leads to marked inflammation and progressive renal failure, with features relevant to human diseases with underlying defects in complement regulation, such as hemolytic uremic syndrome.

Abstract:One novel nanofiber membrane was fabricated which could detect Fe 3+ with the help of either fluorescence spectrometer or smartphone. Coffee grounds carbon dots (CCDs) were prepared by the solvent-thermal method, followed by the fabrication of CCDs/polyamide 56 (PA56) composite nanofiber membrane through electrospinning process. The 4 % CCDs/PA56 composite nanofiber membrane (FNM4) maintained good fluorescence performance (λ em = 554 nm, λ ex = 470 nm) even after 5-runs quenching-recovery cycles. Its fluorescence could be quenched by Fe 3+ with the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.74 μM when the fluorescence spectrometer was used. In addition, FNM4 could also detect Fe 3+ by reading its RGB values using one smartphone and the lowest LOD was 4.31 μM when one Apple smartphone was used. The second method is portable to operate and eliminates the constraints of bulky laboratory equipment.

Abstract:Water-soluble poly(9-aminofluorene) (P9AF) was facilely synthesized by the direct electropolymerization of commercially available monomer 9-aminofluorene in boron trifluoride diethyl etherate, and its preliminary application as a fluorescent chemosensor for the highly selective and sensitive detection of Fe(III) and inorganic phosphates (Pi) in an organic buffer 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazinyl]ethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) (pH 7.0) was investigated. The one-step electrosynthesized P9AF with high quality and water-solubility possessed good fluorescence properties. P9AF was employed to sense Fe(III) in aqueous solution, displaying high selectivity, pronounced sensitivity, low detection limit, and fast response. On binding to Fe(III), exceptional fluorescence quenching of P9AF occurred, demonstrated by a >94% reduction in the fluorescence intensity. P9AF–Fe(III) complex exhibited high sensitivity and rapid response to Pi with turn-on fluorescence. The working mechanism was proposed and confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. The determination of Fe(III) in real samples and the interaction of P9AF with Fe(III) and Pi in living cells were investigated with satisfying results, showing that the cost-effective, water-soluble, and electrosynthesized P9AF has potential application in biological system and environment.

Abstract:We analyzed the molecular mechanisms by which IL-12 and IL-18 induce transcriptional activity of the IFN-gamma promoter in primary human CD4+ T cells. In transfection experiments, we found that IL-18 directly induces IFN-gamma promoter activity, whereas significant activation with IL-12 required costimulation with alphaCD3/CD28. Furthermore, IL-12 caused in vivo protection of a STAT4 (-236) binding site, whereas stimulation with IL-18 or IL-12 plus alphaCD3/CD28 induced occupancy of a downstream AP-1 site. Mutation of this AP-1 site abrogated both IL-12- and IL-18-mediated promoter activation, whereas mutation of the STAT site inhibited IL-12-dependent activation. These data suggest that both AP-1 and STAT4 are required for IL-12-dependent IFN-gamma promoter activity, whereas IL-18 causes direct activation via AP-1. This differential activation of the IFN-gamma promoter gives further insights into molecular pathways governing Th1 T cell development and differentiation.
Preparation of a Phosphate Ion-Selective Electrode Using One-Step Process Optimized with Response Surface Method and its Application in Real Sample Detections

Abstract:A novel phosphate ion-selective electrode of hierarchical nanocomposite consisting of polypyrrole, cobalt, ordered mesoporous carbon and named as Co-PPy-OMC/GCE, was fabricated by a simple one-step electrodeposition on a glassy carbon electrode at a constant potential. The response surface method combined with Box-Behnken design was applied to optimize the preparation condition of the fabricated Co-PPy-OMC/GCE. The optimal concentrations of cobalt chloride, pyrrole, and ordered mesoporous carbon were 0.225 mol·L −1 , 0.168 mol·L −1 , and 0.480 mg·mL −1 , respectively. The electrochemical impedance spectrum indicated a very low impedance for the fabricated phosphate ISE, which also showed a good linear potentiometric response to phosphate with the Nerstian slope of 31.6 mV·dec −1 at pH 4.0 over a wide concentration range of 1 × 10 −5 to 5 × 10 −2 mol·L −1 , as well as a comparatively lower detection limit of 6.81 × 10 −6 mol·L −1 and a short response time of less than 9 s. The Co-PPy-OMC/GCE exhibited high selectivity toward phosphate with demonstrated significant reproducibility and stability, and the sequence of selectivity was determined as H 2 PO 4 − > NO 3 − > CH 3 COO − > Cl − > SO 4 2− > CO 3 2− . Ultimately, the performance of the electrode was validated for detecting the phosphate in laboratory wastewater, the water sample from Overseas Chinese Town wetland, and human urine samples by the national standard test method, with a detection discrepancy of about less than 10% (RSD). The present study proposed a new strategy for the preparation of novel electrodes and that the fabricated ISE could be a candidate for the detection of phosphate in aqueous samples in a facile route.

Abstract:In this study, a pericarpium granati -derived biochar with phosphoric acid activation (PGCP) was prepared, characterized, and applied together with polypyrrole (PPy) to modify a glass carbon electrode (GCE) to construct a bilayer membrane nitrate ion-selective electrode (ISE, PPy/PGCP/GCE). The morphological results showed that PGCP possessed a porous structures. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis indicated that phosphorus added in PGCP was in the forms of P-O and P–C. The electrochemical impedance spectrum of the fabricated nitrate ISE showed a very low impedance, suggesting that PGCP can be used as an effective electron transfer mediator. The open circuit potential experiments indicated that the fabricated nitrate ISE exhibited a good linear potentiometric response to nitrate over a wide concentration range of 1 × 10 −5 to 5 × 10 −1 mol·L −1 with Nernstian slope of 50.86 mV·dec −1 at pH range of 3.5–9.5 and a short response time of less than 7.3 s. Its limit of detection (LOD) was determined to be 4.64 × 10 −6 mol·L −1 . Both detection range and LOD are comparable or better than those of reported similar modified electrodes. The fabricated nitrate ISE exhibited a high selectivity with a good repeatability and stability. The selectivity sequence was determined as NO 3 − > NO 2 − > Cl − > H 2 PO 4 − > CH 3 COO − > CO 3 2− > SO 4 2− . The fabricated nitrate ISE was validated by the nitrate detections of real samples from Shenzhen OCT wetland and laboratory wastewater, respectively, with the obtained detection discrepancy of less than 4% (RSD). This study provides useful reference information for the development of novel ISE in clinical laboratories and environmental monitoring.

Spectrophotometric and Fluorometric Methods for the Determination of Fe(III) Ions in Water and Pharmaceutical Samples

Abstract:Chemical sensors based on mesoporous silica nanotubes (MSNTs) for the quick detection of Fe(III) ions have been developed. The nanotubes' surface was chemically modified with phenolic groups by reaction of the silanol from the silica nanotubes surface with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane followed by reaction with 3-formylsalicylic acid (3-fsa) or 5-formylsalicylic acid (5-fsa) to produce the novel nanosensors. The color of the resultant 3-fsa-MSNT and 5-fsa-MSNT sensors changes once meeting a very low concentration of Fe(III) ions. Color changes can be seen by the naked eye and tracked with a smartphone or fluorometric or spectrophotometric techniques. Many experimental studies have been conducted to find out the optimum conditions for colorimetric and fluorometric determining of the Fe(III) ions by the two novel sensors. The response time, for the two sensors, that is necessary to achieve a steady spectroscopic signal was less than 15 s. The suggested methods were validated in terms of the lowest limit of detection (LOD), the lowest limit of quantification (LOQ), linearity, and precision according to International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) guidelines. The lowest limit of detection that was obtained from the spectrophotometric technique was 18 ppb for Fe(III) ions. In addition, the results showed that the two sensors can be used eight times after recycling using 0.1 M EDTA as eluent with high efficiency (90%). As a result, the two sensors were successfully used to determine Fe(III) in a variety of real samples (tap water, river water, seawater, and pharmaceutical samples) with great sensitivity and selectivity.
Architecture of A Hybrid Mesoporous Chemosensor for Fe3+ by Covalent Coupling Bis-Schiff Base Pmba Onto the Cptes-Functionalized Sba-15

Abstract:A novel hybrid mesoporous material PMBA-SBA was designed and synthesized by immobilizing bis-schiff base N,N'-(1,4-phenylenedimethyli- dyne)bis(1,4-benzenediamine) (PMBA) within the channels of (gamma-chloropropyl)triethoxysilicane (CPTES) modified SBA-15. TEM images of the hybrid materials illustrated the reservation of the hexagonal ordered mesoporous structure of SBA-15 after function alization. The characteristic absorbance of the C=N stretching vibration of the Schiff base was observed in the IR spectrum of the hybrid materials, indicating the successful immobilization of PMBA in the mesoporous composite, while the XPS spectra confirmed that the linkage of the PMBA molecule within the channels of CPTES-functionalized SBA-15 is realized by forming a covalent bond between amino and chloropropyl groups. This novel mesoporous material PMBA-SBA showed a high selectivity to Fe3+ ion, which results from a dramatic fluorescence quenching by the addition of Fe3+ ion upon the suspensions of PMBA-SBA. A good linearity between the fluorescence intensity of PMBA-SBA and the concentration of Fe3+ ion is constructed, which enables this hybrid martial as a fluorescence chemosensor for detecting the Fe3+ ion with a satisfactory detection limit of 1.98 x 10(-6) M. Judged on the linear equation, the fluorescence quenching of the hybrid material by Fe3+ ion progresses by static quenching forming a nonfluorescence complex.

Abstract:A Co and Fe‐based Heterometallo‐supramolecular polymer is utilized as the sensing layer for the selective oxidation of nitrite. The kinetics of the irreversible electro‐oxidation mechanism are also investigated through the employment of cyclic voltammetry and amperometric techniques. The studies for stability and reproducibility make polyCoFe a promising electrocatalyst with long‐term stability and reproducibility. Here, we report the fabrication of Heterometallo‐supramolecular polymer (H‐SMP) for the selective oxidation of nitrite with the investigation of some kinetic parameters by the complex formation of Co(II) and Fe(II) salts with the symmetrical ligand which is composed of terpyridine moieties specially referred to as [4′,4′′′′‐(1,4‐Phenylene)bis(2,2′:6′,2′′‐terpyridine)] to form polyCoFe. The characterization of polyCoFe was carried out using UV‐Vis titration, FT‐IR and SEM. The viscosity measurement of H‐SMP was utilized to calculate its molecular weight using Mark‐Houwink‐Sakurada equation. The electrochemical performance of polyCoFe_GCE was evaluated using the CV and EIS techniques. The kinetics of the irreversible electro‐oxidation mechanism were investigated by introducing variations in scan‐rate and pH. The concurrence observed between the experimental and simulated CV results provided additional evidence supporting the accuracy and reliability of the determined kinetic parameters. We investigated the efficiency of polyCoFe_GCE for nitrite detection at various concentrations using CV as well as amperometry methods. The amperometric technique showed a wide linear range of 0.66 to 194.15 μM and a low detection limit of 0.11 μM. In addition, modified electrode underwent interference, stability, and reproducibility tests. Real samples were analyzed using both CV and amperometry methods, and the obtained results were compared with those obtained from standard solutions.

Abstract:A new ionic cobalt(II) chain coordination polymer, {[Co(bbbm)(H 2 O) 4 ]·ATBIP·2DMA·2H 2 O} n (Co-CP) with the multi-functional 5-amino-2,4,6-tribromoisophthalic acid (H 2 ATBIP) and flexible linker 1, 4-bis(benzimidazole-1-methyl)benzene (bbbm) was prepared with convenient slow evaporation method. Moreover, its composite with hydroxyl carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (Co-CP@CNTs) was constructed by "one pot" synthesis. Co-CP further assembles into a 3D supramolecular framework with 1D channels with the aid of the hydrogen-bonded tape. The amperometric response demonstrates that Co-CP/GCE and Co-CP@CNTs/GCE show sensitive and selective electrochemical oxidation sensing to ascorbic acid (AA) and reduction sensing to Fe 3+ in 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 , respectively. Moreover, Co-CP@CNTs exhibits better electrocatalytic capability for the oxidation sensing of AA and reduction sensing of Fe 3+ than that of Co-CP. Remarkably, the strategy was successfully applied in the portable screen-printed electrode (SPE). Among three electrodes, the Co-CP@CNTs/SPE shows the most rapid and sensitive sensing with the largest exponential range of 0.01 - 26 mM for AA and 0.01 - 21 mM for Fe 3+ , respectively. The limits of detection (LOD) reach to 0.74 μM (AA) and 0.96 μM (Fe 3+ ) for Co-CP@CNTs/GCE, 0.32 μM (AA) and 0.91 μM (Fe 3+ ) for Co-CP@CNTs/SPE, respectively. Furthermore, the portable Co-CP@CNTs/SPE has been successfully used as a platform for the practical detection of AA and Fe 3+ in the real-world samples.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to fabricate lead ion selective electrode (Pb-ISE) sensors based on a 2:8 ratio of methyl-methacrylate-co-butyl acrylate thin film copolymers (MB28). These sensors were prepared by using a photo-polymerization technique on a pencil graphite electrode (PGE), with a poly-pyrrole-Cl (p-Py-Cl) thin film as a sensor transducer. During the Pb-ISE sensor fabrication process, the membrane composition optimization process has been carried out. The best sensor composition contained 1 mg potassium tetrakis (4-chlorophenyl) borate (KTpClPB) and 4.3 mg Pb ionophore IV. The fabricated Pb-ISE had a Nernstian number of 28.2 ± 0.5 mV/dec, a broad linear range from 10-3 to 10-10 M and a limit of detection (LOD) of (6.6 ± 1.6) x 10-11 M, providing an excellent performance. In addition, the sensor showed a fairly good coefficient of effectiveness (CE) (Log Kpot a,b) against K+ (potassium), Na+ (sodium), NH4 + (ammonium), Mg2+ (magnesium), Cu2+ (copper) and Cd2+ (cadmium) cations, which were -6.6 ± 0.2, -6.1 ± 0.2, -6.7 ± 0.2, -12.4 ± 0.3, -4.4 ± 0.2 and -6.1 ± 0.1, respectively. The Pb-ISE sensor worked best in the pH range from 3 to 8. The validation process has been carried out by comparing the measurements results of the artificial samples, at the concentrations from 25 to 100 ppm, with those of the real sample from Angke river water. The outcome was outstanding and comparable to that of the standard UV-Vis spectrophotometry measurement methods.
