Abstract:We present a toy metric of spacetime travel from topological change. A bubble-like baby universe is detached and re-attached from our universe. Depending on where the bubble is re-attached, matter may travel superluminally or backwards-in-time through the bubble. Quasiregular singularities are formed at the detachment and re-attachment spacetime points. The spacetime is traversable and not covered by any horizons. Exotic matter violating energy conditions is required to realize such spacetimes.

Abstract:We investigate timelike and null geodesics within the rotating “time machine” spacetime proposed by Ralph, T.C.; et al. Phys. Rev. D 2020, 102, 124013. This is a rotating analogue of Alcubierre’s warp drive spacetime. We obtain geodesics that begin and end in the surrounding flat space region, yet achieve time travel relative to static observers there. This is a global property, as the geodesics remain locally future-pointing, as well as timelike or null.

Abstract:Minkowski famously introduced the concept of a space-time continuum in 1908, merging the three dimensions of space with an imaginary time dimension [Formula: see text], with the unit imaginary producing the correct spacetime distance [Formula: see text], and the results of Einstein's then recently developed theory of special relativity, thus providing an explanation for Einstein's theory in terms of the structure of space and time. As an alternative to a planar Minkowski space-time of two space dimensions and one time dimension, we replace the unit imaginary [Formula: see text], with the Clifford bivector [Formula: see text] for the plane that also squares to minus one, but which can be included without the addition of an extra dimension, as it is an integral part of the real Cartesian plane with the orthonormal basis [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. We find that with this model of planar spacetime, using a two-dimensional Clifford multivector, the spacetime metric and the Lorentz transformations follow immediately as properties of the algebra. This also leads to momentum and energy being represented as components of a multivector and we give a new efficient derivation of Compton's scattering formula, and a simple formulation of Dirac's and Maxwell's equations. Based on the mathematical structure of the multivector, we produce a semi-classical model of massive particles, which can then be viewed as the origin of the Minkowski spacetime structure and thus a deeper explanation for relativistic effects. We also find a new perspective on the nature of time, which is now given a precise mathematical definition as the bivector of the plane.
Generalized Minkowski spacetime with geometric algebra

Abstract:We begin from the generalised eight-dimensional Minkowski spacetime structure, previously developed in Clifford geometric algebra $ C\ell(\Re^3) $. We propose that this is the correct algebraic representation for physical three-dimensional space. We find that this representation incorporates spin and helicity directly into spacetime, in a Lorentz invariant manner. From this foundation, based on purely algebraic arguments, we derive Minkowski spacetime, the properties of electromagnetic radiation and Maxwell's equations. These results being achieved all without physical arguments, showing that these physical laws are actually purely geometric effects. This approach also leads to a generalization of complex mass and proper time. Several insight about time are produced, including an arrow of time, which ultimately becomes a five-dimensional property. We also provide a new argument explaining the non-existence of magnetic monopoles. We suggest that the rotational freedoms, inherent in three-dimensional physical space are an important aspect of nature, not properly addressed in physics, as they are not incorporated within the spacetime background, as achieved in this paper.

Abstract:A space with a complex metric permitted by quantum cosmology is given; two regions, one containing no closed causal curve and one containing closed timelike curves, are separated by a complex region. Through quantum tunneling one can travel from one region to the other. The vacuum polarization stress-energy tensor converges everywhere so the space is stable. This challenges Hawking's chronology protection conjecture and highlights on building a time machine.

Abstract:Penrose's Spin Geometry Theorem is extended further, from SU (2) and E (3) (Euclidean) to E (1, 3) (Poincaré) invariant elementary quantum mechanical systems. The Lorentzian spatial distance between any two non-parallel timelike straight lines of Minkowski space, considered to be the centre-of-mass world lines of E (1, 3)-invariant elementary classical mechanical systems with positive rest mass, is expressed in terms of E (1, 3)- invariant basic observables , viz. the 4-momentum and the angular momentum of the systems. An analogous expression for E (1, 3)- invariant elementary quantum mechanical systems in terms of the basic quantum observables in an abstract, algebraic formulation of quantum mechanics is given, and it is shown that, in the classical limit, it reproduces the Lorentzian spatial distance between the timelike straight lines of Minkowski space with asymptotically vanishing uncertainty. Thus, the metric structure of Minkowski space can be recovered from quantum mechanics in the classical limit using only the observables of abstract quantum mechanical systems.

Time Machines Constructed From Anti-De Sitter Space

Abstract:In this paper time machines are constructed from anti-de Sitter space. One is constructed by identifying points related via boost transformations in the covering space of anti-de Sitter space and it is shown that this Misner-like anti-de Sitter space is just the Lorentzian section of the complex space constructed by Li, Xu, and Liu [Phys. Rev. D 48, 4735 (1993)]. The others are constructed by gluing an anti-de Sitter space to a de Sitter space, which could describe an anti-de Sitter phase bubble living in a de Sitter phase universe. Self-consistent vacua for a massless conformally coupled scalar field are found for these time machines, whose renormalized stress-energy tensors are finite and solve the semiclassical Einstein equations. The extensions to electromagnetic fields and massless neutrinos are discussed. It is argued that, in order to make the results consistent with Euclidean quantization, a new renormalization procedure for quantum fields in Misner-type spaces (Misner space, Misner-like de Sitter space, and Misner-like anti-de Sitter space) is required. Such a "self-consistent" renormalization procedure is proposed. With this renormalization procedure, self-consistent vacua exist for massless conformally coupled scalar fields, electromagnetic fields, and massless neutrinos in these Misner-type spaces. Warp Drives and Closed Timelike Curves

Abstract:It is commonly accepted that superluminal travel may be used to facilitate time travel. This is a purely special-relativistic argument, using the fact that for observers in two frames of reference, separated by a spacelike interval, the non-causal (spacelike) future of one observer includes part of the causal past of the other. In this paper we provide a concrete realization of this argument in a curved general-relativistic spacetime, using warp drives as the means of faster-than-light travel. By generalizing the usual warp drive metric to allow for a non-unit lapse function, we allow the warp drive to switch between reference frames in a purely geometric way. With an additional modification allowing the warp drive to have compact support, this permits us to glue two warp drives together to construct a closed timelike geodesic, such that a test particle following the geodesics of the two warp drives travels back to its own past. This provides a precise mathematical model for the connection between faster-than-light travel and time travel in general relativity, and the first such model to be explicitly formulated using two warp drives. We also give a detailed discussion of weak energy condition violations in the non-unit-lapse warp drive.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Ahead of Print. It is more than a century-old concept that the Minkowski spacetime is flat. From the pure geometric point of view, we explicitly address the issue of whether a noncommutative Minkowski spacetime is flat or not. In the framework of the twisted-diffeomorphism approach to noncommutative gravity with canonical type noncommutative (NC) coordinate structure, one important result that we get is that the NC Minkowski spacetime parametrized either with spherical polar coordinates or with parabolic coordinates has nontrivial NC corrections to Riemann curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and curvature scalars. Another crucial result is that the curvature scalars have singular behavior at certain points, and these singularities are not coordinate singularities. The nature of these singularities clearly points towards the idea of high-energetic probes turning into black holes. The absence of any such noncommutative corrections, and thus any such singularities, in the cases of Cartesian coordinates and cylindrical coordinates leads to the conclusion that high-energetic probes do not turn into black holes when the canonical NC structure is considered for these coordinates.

Abstract:We consider a two-time (characterized by distinct speeds of causality) and three-space-dimensional Minkowski space and derive relativistic coordinate and velocity transformation formulas and expressions for a new effective speed limit. Extending the ideas of Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, concepts of five-velocity and five-momenta are introduced leading to a new formula for the rest energy of a massive object. Based on a non-relativistic limit, a two-time dependent Schroedinger-like equation is developed. Its solution for infinite square-well potential, after compactifying the extra time dimension in a closed loop topology with a period matching the Planck time, generates interference of additional quantum states with an ultra-small period of oscillation, as well. Some cosmological implications of the concept of four-dimensional versus five-dimensional masses are briefly discussed, too.

Abstract:Time functions with asymptotically hyperbolic geometry play an increasingly important role in many areas of relativity, from computing black-hole perturbations to analyzing wave equations. Despite their significance, many of their properties remain underexplored. In this expository article, I discuss hyperbolic time functions by considering the hyperbola as the relativistic analog of a circle in two-dimensional Minkowski space and argue that suitably defined hyperboloidal coordinates are as natural in Lorentzian manifolds as spherical coordinates are in Riemannian manifolds. The presence of the null cone adds new elements to this analogy, particularly regarding the smooth foliation of the asymptotic boundary.

Abstract:Since Einstein's equations $G_{ik} = 8\pi \, G \, T_{ik} \, / c^4 $ relate the metric $g_{ik}$ of spacetime to the energy-momentum tensor $T_{ik}$ which is a quantum field, the metric $g_{ik}$ must be a quantum field. And since the metric $g_{ik}(x)$ is the dot product $g_{ik}(x) = \partial_i p^\alpha(x) \, \partial_k p_\alpha(x)$ of the derivatives of the points $p(x)$ of spacetime, spacetime itself must be a quantum field. Its points have average values $\langle p(x) \rangle$ that obey general relativity and fluctuations $q(x) = p(x) - \langle p(x) \rangle$ that when averaged turn Fourier exponentials $\exp(ikq)$ into gaussians $\exp(-\ell^2 \boldsymbol k^2)$. The gaussians make Feynman diagrams finite. Zero-point are also finite, but they are negative and too large to explain dark energy unless new bosonic fields are included.

Abstract:The objective of this work is to derive the structure of Minkowski spacetime using a Hermitian spin basis. This Hermitian spin basis is analogous to the Pauli spin basis. The derived Minkowski metric is then employed to obtain the corresponding Lorentz factors, potential Lie algebra, effects on gamma matrices and complex representations of relativistic time dilation and length contraction. The main results, a discussion of the potential applications and future research directions are provided.

Generating New Spacetimes through Zermelo Navigation

Abstract:Zermelo navigation is not only a fundamental tool in Finsler geometry but also a fundamental approach to the geometrization of dynamics in physics. In this paper, we consider the Zermelo navigation problem on optical Riemannian space and, via Zermelo/Randers/spacetime triangle, explore the generation of new spacetimes from pre-existing ones. Whether the Randers metric has reversible geodesics corresponds to the presence of time-reversal symmetry in the generated spacetime. In cases where the Randers metric has reversible geodesics, we utilize a radial vector field to generate new static spacetimes from existing ones. For example, we can generate Schwarzschild, Rindler, de Sitter, and Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetimes from flat spacetime. In fact, the Zermelo navigation method allows for the derivation of a variety of static spacetimes from flat spacetime. For multi-parameter spacetimes, they can be generated through various navigation paths. However, for some spacetimes, not all navigation paths may exist. In the second scenario, when the Randers metric does not have reversible geodesics, we employ a rotational vector field to transform non-flat static metrics into slowly rotating spacetimes. Alternatively, using a mixed vector field, we generate slowly rotating spacetimes starting from flat spacetime. We provide examples of generating Kerr spacetimes and Kerr-de Sitter spacetimes.

Abstract:If space, time and mass-energy expand outward from the Big Bang along the time axis equally in the (+) and (-) directions, then time is symmetric by Weyl's definition. In the Feynman-Stueckelberg Interpretation, antimatter is identical to matter but moves backward in time. This paper argues this interpretation is physically real, leading to the universe containing dark matter with mass accumulations similar to ordinary matte. As time expands, in both directions away from the origin, quantum uncertainty allows a brief, decreasing leakage of mass between (+) and (-) universes. Matter leaking from (-) to (+) time moves forward in time, producing preponderance of matter in (+) time. Antimatter leakage from (+) time to (-) time in the same way produces antimatter preponderance in the (-) time universe. The remaining opposite partner particles left by the leakage, (antimatter and matter respectively) proceeding outward in antitime and time respectively, after many annihilations also increase the two preponderances in the two universes. The anti-universe should be observable by gravitational lensing, predicting "MACHOS" of approximately stellar mass, and multiple micro-lensing of quasars. Non-existence of primordial antimatter of Z>1, and a large variation in the quantities of dark matter associated with different individual galaxies are predicted. A symmetry is provided for Nodland and Ralston's observed maximum axis of rotation of polarization of galactic synchrotron radiation. A new solution of the horizon problem at times close to the origin is indicated. Collapse of the wave function and time's arrow are explained and non-locality and instantaneity of quantum interaction required. Extension of the hypothesis to six dimensions gives an 83.3% dark matter share of the universe.
