Abstract:We prove that if A and B are Fell bundles over the locally compact groups G and H respectively, then the minimal (maximal) tensor product of the C*-algebra of kernels of A with the C*-algebra of kernels of B agrees with the C*-algebra of kernels of the minimal (respectively: maximal) tensor product of A and B.

Abstract:For a Fell bundle $\mathcal{B}=\left\{B_{s}\right\}_{s \in G}$ over a discrete group $G$, we use representations theory of $\mathcal{B}$ to construct the Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes spaces $A(\mathcal{B})$ and $B(\mathcal{B})$ of $\mathcal B$. When $\mathcal B$ is saturated we show $B(\mathcal{B})$ is canonically isomorphic to the dual space of the cross sectional $C^{*}$-algebra $C^{*}(\mathcal{B})$ of $\mathcal{B}$. When there is a compatible family of co-multiplications on the fibers we show that $B(\mathcal{B})$ and $A(\mathcal{B})$ are Banach algebras. This holds in particular if either the fiber $B_e$ at identity is a Hopf $C^*$-algebra or $\mathcal{B}$ is the Fell bundle of a $C^*$-dynamical system. When $A(\mathcal{B})$ is a Banach algebra with bounded approximate identity, we show that $B(\mathcal{B})$ is the multiplier algebra of $A(\mathcal{B})$. We prove a Leptin type theorem by showing that amenability of $G$ implies the existence of bounded approximate identity for $A(\mathcal{B})$ for bundles coming from a $C^*$-dynamical system $(A,G,\gamma)$. The converse is left as an open problem.

Abstract:We show that if $Å$ is a Fell bundle over a locally compact group $G$, then there is a natural coaction $\delta$ of $G$ on the Fell-bundle $C^*$-algebra $C^*(G,Å)$ such that if $\hat{\delta}$ is the dual action of $G$ on the crossed product $C^*(G,Å) \rtimes_{\delta} G$, then the full crossed product $(C^*(G,Å) \rtimes_{\delta}G)\rtimes_{\hat{\delta}}G$ is canonically isomorphic to $C^*(G,Å) \otimes\KK(L^2(G))$. Hence the coaction $\delta$ is maximal.

Sections of Fell Bundles over Étale Groupoids

Abstract:We construct the reduced and essential C*-algebra of a Fell bundle over an étale groupoid (in full generality, without any second countability, local compactness or Hausdorff assumptions, even on the unit space) directly from sections under convolution. This eliminates the j-map commonly seen in the groupoid and Fell bundle C*-algebra literature. We further show how multiplier algebras and other Banach *-bimodules can again be constructed directly from sections. Finally, we extend Varela's morphisms from C*-bundles to Fell bundles, thus making the reduced C*-algebra construction functorial.

Abstract:Let $p\colon \mathcal{A} \to G$ be a saturated Fell bundle over a locally compact, Hausdorff, second countable, {é}tale groupoid~$G$, and let $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ denote its full $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra. We prove an integration-disintegration theorem for KMS states on $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ by establishing a one-to-one correspondence between such states and fields of measurable states on the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras of the Fell bundles over the isotropy groups. This correspondence is established for certain states on $\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ also. While proving this main result, we construct an induction $\mathrm{C}^*$-correspondence between~$\mathrm{C}^*(G;\mathcal{A})$ and the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra of an isotropy Fell bundle. We demonstrate our results through many examples such as groupoid crossed products, twisted groupoid crossed products, $G$-spaces and matrix algebras~$\mathrm{M}_n(\mathrm{C}(X))\otimes A$. While studying the matrix algebra~$\mathrm{M}_n(\mathrm{C}(X))$, we propose a groupoid model for it. While demonstrating our main result for this groupoid model, we provide a solution to the Radon--Nikodym problem for the groupoid used in this model.

Positive definiteness and Fell bundles over discrete groups

Abstract:We introduce a natural concept of positive definiteness for bundle maps between Fell bundles over (possibly different) discrete groups and describe several examples. Such maps induce completely positive maps between the associated full cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras in a functorial way. Under the assumption that the kernel of the homomorphism connecting the groups under consideration is amenable, they also induce completely positive maps between the associated reduced cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras. As an application, we define an approximation property for a Fell bundle over a discrete group which generalizes Exel's approximation property and still implies the weak containment property. Both approximation properties coincide when the unit fibre is nuclear.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a discrete group. Given unital $G$-$C^*$-algebras $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, we give an abstract condition under which every $G$-subalgebra $\mathcal{C}$ of the form $\mathcal{A}\subset \mathcal{C}\subset \mathcal{A}\otimes_{\text{min}}\mathcal{B}$ is a tensor product. This generalizes the well-known splitting results in the context of $C^*$-algebras by Zacharias and Zsido. As an application, we prove a topological version of the Intermediate Factor theorem. When a product group $G=\Gamma_1\times\Gamma_2$ acts (by a product action) on the product of corresponding $\Gamma_i$-boundaries $\partial\Gamma_i$, using the abstract condition, we show that every intermediate subalgebra $C(X)\subset\mathcal{C}\subset C(X)\otimes_{\text{min}}C(\partial\Gamma_1\times \partial\Gamma_2)$ is a tensor product (under some additional assumptions on $X$). This can be considered as a topological version of the Intermediate Factor theorem. We prove that our assumptions are necessary and cannot generally be relaxed. We also introduce the notion of a uniformly rigid action for $C^*$-algebras and use it to give various classes of inclusions $\mathcal{A}\subset \mathcal{A}\otimes_{\text{min}}\mathcal{B}$ for which every invariant intermediate algebra is a tensor product.

Abstract:In this paper we study deformations of $C^*$-algebras that are given as cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras of Fell bundles $\mathcal{A}$ over locally compact groups $G$. Our deformation comes from a direct deformation of the Fell bundles $\mathcal{A}$ via certain parameters, like automorphisms of the Fell bundle, group cocycles, or central group extensions of $G$ by the circle group $\mathbb{T}$, and then taking cross-sectional algebras of the deformed Fell bundles. We then show that this direct deformation method is equivalent to the deformation via the dual coactions by similar parameters as studied previously in [4,7].

Abstract:We prove a number of results to the general effect that, under obviously necessary numerical and determinant constraints, "most" morphisms between fixed bundles on a complex elliptic curve produce (co)kernels which can either be specified beforehand or else meet various rigidity constraints. Examples include: (a) for indecomposable $\mathcal{E}$ and $\mathcal{E'}$ with slopes and ranks increasing strictly in that order the space of monomorphisms whose cokernel is semistable and maximally rigid (i.e. has minimal-dimensional automorphism group) is open dense; (b) for indecomposable $\mathcal{K}$, $\mathcal{E}$ and stable $\mathcal{F}$ with slopes increasing strictly in that order and ranks and determinants satisfying the obvious additivity constraints the space of embeddings $\mathcal{K}\to \mathcal{E}$ whose cokernel is isomorphic to $\mathcal{F}$ is open dense; (c) the obvious mirror images of these results; (d) generalizations weakening indecomposability to semistability + maximal rigidity; (e) various examples illustrating the necessity of the assorted assumptions.

Abstract:In this article we prove analogs of Kawamata's canonical bundle formula, Kawamata subadjunction and plt/lc inversion of adjunction for generalized pairs on Kaehler varieties. We also show that a conjecture of BDPPin dimension n-1 implies that the cone theorem holds for any n-dimensional Kaehler generalized klt pair. Along the way, we obtain more complete versions of some results due to Collins-Tosatti and Cao-Hoering.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of groupoid pre-equivalences and prove that they give rise to groupoid equivalences by taking certain quotients. Then, given an equivalence of Fell bundles $\mathscr{B}$ and $\mathscr{C}$ and another equivalence between $\mathscr{C}$ and $\mathscr{D}$, we construct an equivalence between $\mathscr{B}$ and $\mathscr{D}$ out of the tensor product bundle. As a consequence, we obtain that Fell bundle equivalence is indeed an equivalence relation.
Ultraproducts of factorial $W^*$-bundles

Abstract:This paper investigates factorial $W^*$-bundles and their ultraproducts. More precisely, a $W^*$-bundle is factorial if the von Neumann algebras associated to its fibers are all factors. Let $M$ be the tracial ultraproduct of a family of factorial $W^*$-bundles over compact Hausdorff spaces with finite, uniformly bounded covering dimensions. We prove that in this case the set of limit traces in $M$ is weak$^*$-dense in the trace space $T(M)$. This in particular entails that $M$ is factorial. We also provide, on the other hand, an example of ultraproduct of factorial $W^*$-bundles which is not factorial. Finally, we obtain some results of model-theoretic nature: if $A$ and $B$ are exact, $\mathcal{Z}$-stable $C^*$-algebras, or if they both have strict comparison, then $A \equiv B$ implies that $T(A)$ is Bauer if and only if $T(B)$ is. If moreover both $T(A)$ and $T(B)$ are Bauer simplices and second countable, then the sets of extreme traces $\partial_e T(A)$ and $\partial_e T(B)$ have the same covering dimension.

Abstract:Given a Fell bundle $\mathcal{B}=\{B_t\}_{t\in G}$ over a locally compact and Hausdorff group $G$ and a closed subgroup $H\subset G,$ we construct quotients $C^*_{H\uparrow \mathcal{B}}(\mathcal{B})$ and $C^*_{H\uparrow G}(\mathcal{B})$ of the full cross-sectional C*-algebra $C^*(\mathcal{B})$ analogous to Exel-Ng's reduced algebras $C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B})\equiv C^*_{\{e\}\uparrow \mathcal{B}}(\mathcal{B})$ and $C^*_R(\mathcal{B})\equiv C^*_{\{e\}\uparrow G}(\mathcal{B}).$ An absorption principle, similar to Fell's one, is used to give conditions on $\mathcal{B}$ and $H$ (e.g. $G$ discrete and $\mathcal{B}$ saturated, or $H$ normal) ensuring $C^*_{H\uparrow \mathcal{B}}(\mathcal{B})=C^*_{H\uparrow G}(\mathcal{B}).$ The tools developed here enable us to show that if the normalizer of $H$ is open in $G$ and $\mathcal{B}_H:=\{B_t\}_{t\in H}$ is the reduction of $\mathcal{B}$ to $H,$ then $C^*(\mathcal{B}_H)=C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B}_H)$ if and only if $C^*_{H\uparrow \mathcal{B}}(\mathcal{B})=C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B});$ the last identification being implied by $C^*(\mathcal{B})=C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B}).$ We also prove that if $G$ is inner amenable and $C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B})\otimes_{\max} C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(G)=C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B})\otimes C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(G),$ then $C^*(\mathcal{B})=C^*_{\mathop{\rm r}}(\mathcal{B}).$

An extension of Steinberg's Theorem to biquotient pairs of subgroups

Abstract:We study the derived tensor product of the representation rings of subgroups of a given compact Lie group G. That is, given two such subgroups H_1 and H_2, we study the tensor product of the associated representation rings R(H_1) and R(H_2) over the representation ring RG, and prove a vanishing result for the associated higher Tor-groups. This result can be viewed as a natural generalization of the Theorem of Steinberg that asserts that the representation rings of maximal rank subgroups of G are free over RG. It my also be viewed as an analogue of a result of Singhof on the cohomology of classifying spaces. We include an immediate application to the complex K-theory of biquotient manifolds.

Let $(F,\tau)\rightarrow X$ be a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle over $X$ and let us denote with $\overlineð_{F,m,\mathrm{abs}}$ the rolled-up operator of the maximal $L^2$-$\overline{\partial}$ complex of $F$-valued $(m,\bullet)$-forms. Let $\pi:M\rightarrow X$ be a resolution of singularities, $g$ a metric on $M$, $E:=\pi^*F$ and $\rho:=\pi^*\tau$. In this paper, under quite general assumptions on $\tau$, we prove the following equality of analytic $K$-homology classes $[\overlineð_{F,m,\mathrm{abs}}]=\pi_*[\overlineð_{E,m}]$, with $\overlineð_{E,m}$ the rolled-up operator of the $L^2$-$\overline{\partial}$ complex of $E$-valued $(m,\bullet)$-forms on $M$. Our proof is based on functional analytic techniques developed in \cite{KuSh} and provides an explicit homotopy between the even unbounded Fredholm modules induced by $\overlineð_{F,m,\mathrm{abs}}$ and $\overlineð_{E,m}$.

Abstract:We study Blackadar and Kirchberg's matricial field (MF) property and quasidiagonality in cross-sectional C*-algebras constructed from Fell Bundles and, in particular, from partial C*-dynamical systems. In doing so we generalize Kerr and Nowak's notion of a residually finite action to partial topological dynamical systems. We look at some examples exhibiting this property including the partial Bernoulli shift which produces an MF reduced crossed product provided the group in question is exact, residually finite, and admits an MF reduced group C*-algebra.

On canonical bundle formula for fibrations of curves with arithmetic genus one

Abstract:In this paper, we develop canonical bundle formulas for fibrations of relative dimension one in characteristic $p>0$. For such a fibration from a log pair $f\colon (X, \Delta) \to S$, if $f$ is separable, we can obtain a formula similar to the one due to Witaszek \cite{Wit21}; if $f$ is inseparable, we treat the case when $S$ is of maximal Albanese dimension. As an application, we prove that for a klt pair $(X,\Delta)$ with $-(K_X+\Delta)$ nef, if the Albanese morphism $a_X\colon X \to A$ is of relative dimension one, then $X$ is a fiber space over $A$.
