Abstract:Researches on leveraging big artificial intelligence model (BAIM) technology to drive the intelligent evolution of wireless networks are emerging. However, since the breakthrough in generalization brought about by BAIM techniques mainly occurs in natural language processing, there is still a lack of a clear technical roadmap on how to efficiently apply BAIM techniques to wireless systems with many additional peculiarities. To this end, this paper first reviews recent research works on BAIM for wireless and assesses the current research situation. Then, this paper analyzes and compares the differences between language intelligence and wireless intelligence on multiple levels, including scientific foundations, core usages, and technical details. It highlights the necessity and scientific significance of developing BAIM technology in a wireless-native way, as well as new issues that need to be considered in specific technical implementation. Finally, by synthesizing the evolutionary laws of language models with the particularities of wireless system, this paper provides several instructive methodologies for how to develop wireless-native BAIM.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to effectively apply Big AI Model (BAIM) technology to wireless systems in order to realize the intelligent evolution of wireless systems. Although in the field of natural language processing (NLP), large - language models (LLMs) have demonstrated their great potential in extensive generalization and high reliability, when these technologies are directly applied to wireless systems, they face bottlenecks in performance and generalization. This is because wireless AI is not simply a transfer of natural language or computer vision AI. It needs to understand electromagnetic physics and engineering methods, which are very different from NLP and computer vision that model human cognitive and interactive abilities. Therefore, the paper proposes the necessity and scientific significance of developing "wireless - native" BAIM technology, that is, to develop BAIM technology specifically for the characteristics of wireless data and the basic requirements of wireless systems. The paper emphasizes the new challenges in this development direction and provides several methodologies on how to develop wireless - native BAIM by integrating the evolution laws of language models and the particularities of wireless systems. Specifically, the paper explores the following key issues: 1. **What are the necessity and significance of studying wireless - native BAIM in the context of powerful LLMs and their excellent transfer capabilities?** - The paper points out that although LLMs can simplify the interaction between humans and wireless systems and manage some simple wireless application scenarios, for complex wireless problems, even the existing mathematical and physical methods of humans are difficult to solve, and LLMs cannot provide a complete solution either. Therefore, it is necessary to develop wireless - native BAIM that can deeply understand and process electromagnetic signals. 2. **What are the technical characteristics of wireless - native BAIM, especially how are they different from traditional wireless models and existing LLMs?** - Wireless - native BAIM needs to handle multi - modal data, strictly control inference delay, have a concise core mechanism, limited user - model interaction, numerous heterogeneous cells and the characteristics of multiple nodes in a distributed network. These characteristics are significantly different from traditional wireless models and LLMs. 3. **How to develop wireless - native BAIM by integrating the evolution laws of language models and the particularities of wireless systems?** - The paper proposes a systematic methodology, including hybrid data collection, a physics - driven learning paradigm, structural hints, CSI feedback, non - line - of - sight positioning and intelligent beamforming technologies, etc., to guide the development of wireless - native BAIM. In short, this paper aims to explore how to overcome the limitations of current wireless AI technology and realize the comprehensive intelligent upgrade of wireless systems by developing wireless - native BAIM technology.
