Abstract:Let $\mathfrak q=Lie Q$ be an algebraic Lie algebra of index 1, i.e., a generic $Q$-orbit on $\mathfrak q^*$ has codimension 1. We show that the following conditions are equivalent: $\mathfrak q$ is contact; a generic $Q$-orbit on $\mathfrak q^*$ is not conical; there is a generic stabiliser for the coadjoint action of $\mathfrak q$. In addition, if $\mathfrak q$ is contact, then the subalgebra $S(\mathfrak q)_{\sf si}\subset S(\mathfrak q)$ generated by symmetric semi-invariants of $\mathfrak q$ is a polynomial ring. We study also affine seaweed Lie algebras of type ${\sf A}$ and find some contact as well as non-contact examples among them.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The core problems that this paper attempts to solve revolve around the properties of contact Lie algebras and their relationships with some specific structures in the coadjoint representation. Specifically, the author explores the following aspects:
1. **Definition and equivalent conditions of contact Lie algebras**: The author first defines the condition for a Lie algebra \(q\) to be a contact Lie algebra, that is, there exists \(\alpha\in q^*\) such that \((\wedge^n d\alpha)\wedge\alpha\neq 0\), where \(d\alpha\) is obtained through the Chevalley - Eilenberg differential. Then, the author proves that the following three conditions are equivalent:
- \(q\) is a contact Lie algebra.
- The universal \(Q\)-orbit on \(q^*\) is not conical.
- There exists a generic stabiliser for the coadjoint representation of \(q\).
2. **Generation of symmetric invariants and semi - invariants**: If \(q\) is a contact Lie algebra, then the sub - ring \(S(q)^{si}\subset S(q)\) generated by the symmetric semi - invariants of \(q\) is a polynomial ring. This is very important for understanding the structure of contact Lie algebras.
3. **Study of affine seaweed Lie algebras**: The author studies examples of contact Lie algebras and non - contact Lie algebras in affine seaweed Lie algebras. In particular, the author discusses a special class of affine seaweed Lie algebras and gives an explicit formula for its index. For example, for the maximal parabolic sub - algebra \(p\subset\mathfrak{sl}_{r + 1}\), let \(p = l\ltimes n\), where \(n\cong k^a\otimes(k^b)^*\) is the nilpotent radical, add another copy of \(n\) to get \(q=\bar{q}(a, b)=l\ltimes(n\oplus n)\), then \(\text{ind }q=\gcd(2a, a + b)-1\).
In summary, the main purpose of this paper is to deeply study the properties of contact Lie algebras, especially their relationships with the generic stabilisers in the coadjoint representation, and explore the applications of these properties in affine seaweed Lie algebras. Through these studies, the author not only simplifies and generalizes previous results but also provides new perspectives and tools for future research.
