Abstract:We give a classification of four-circulant singly even self-dual $[60,30,d]$ codes for $d=10$ and $12$. These codes are used to construct extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. From extremal singly even self-dual $[60,30,12]$ codes, we also construct extremal singly even self-dual $[58,29,10]$ codes with weight enumerator for which no extremal singly even self-dual code was previously known to exist. Finally, we give some restriction on the possible weight enumerators of certain singly even self-dual codes with shadow of minimum weight $1$.

Abstract:The existence of optimal binary self-dual codes is a long-standing research problem. In this paper, we present some results concerning the decomposition of binary self-dual codes with a dihedral automorphism group D-2p, where p is a prime. These results are applied to construct new self-dual codes with length 78 or 116. We obtain 16 inequivalent self-dual [78, 39, 14] codes, four of which have new weight enumerators. We also show that there are at least 141 inequivalent self-dual [116, 58, 18] codes, most of which are new up to equivalence. Meanwhile, we give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of singly even self-dual codes. We use these restrictions to exclude some possible weight enumerators of self-dual codes with lengths 74, 76, 82, 98 and 100.

Abstract:A computational approach to using plug-in arrays, circulant matrices, and negacirculant matrices in the construction and enumeration of extremal and near-extremal self-dual ternary codes. Isomorphism classes of such codes obtainable from orthogonal designs of dimensions 2, 4, and 8 are completely enumerated for several lengths. Additionally, partial searches are conducted for larger lengths, and weight enumerators are derived for near-extremal codes.

Abstract:A classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths up to $88$ is known. We give a classification of extremal double circulant self-dual codes of lengths $90,92,94$ and $96$. We also classify double circulant self-dual codes with parameters $[90,45,14]$ and $[96,48,16]$. In addition, we demonstrate that no double circulant self-dual $[90,45,14]$ code has an extremal self-dual neighbor, and no double circulant self-dual $[96,45,16]$ code has a self-dual neighbor with minimum weight at least $18$.

Abstract:A classification of Hadamard matrices of order $2p+2$ with an automorphism of order $p$ is given for $p=29$ and $31$. The ternary self-dual codes spanned by the newly found Hadamard matrices of order $60$ with an automorphism of order $29$ are computed, as well as the binary doubly even self-dual codes of length $120$ with generator matrices defined by related Hadamard designs. Several new ternary near-extremal self-dual codes, as well as binary near-extremal doubly even self-dual codes with previously unknown weight enumerators are found.

Abstract:Let $\ell^m$ be a power with $\ell$ a prime greater than $3$ and $m$ a positive integer such that $3$ is a primitive root modulo $2\ell^m$. Let $\mathbb{F}_3$ be the finite field of order $3$, and let $\mathbb{F}$ be the $\ell^{m-1}(\ell-1)$-th extension field of $\mathbb{F}_3$. Denote by $\text{Tr}$ the absolute trace map from $\mathbb{F}$ to $\mathbb{F}_3$. For any $\alpha \in \mathbb{F}_3$ and $\beta \in\mathbb{F}$, let $D$ be the set of nonzero solutions in $\mathbb{F}$ to the equation $\text{Tr}(x^{\frac{q-1}{2\ell^m}} + \beta x) = \alpha$. In this paper, we investigate a ternary code $\mathcal{C}$ of length $n$, defined by $\mathcal{C} := \{(\text{Tr}(d_1x), \text{Tr}(d_2x), \dots, \text{Tr}(d_nx)) : x \in \mathbb{F}\}$ when we rewrite $D = \{d_1, d_2, \dots, d_n\}$. Using recent results on explicit evaluations of exponential sums, the Weil bound, and combinatorial techniques, we determine the Hamming weight distribution of the code $\mathcal{C}$. Furthermore, we show that when $\alpha = \beta =0$, the dual code of $\mathcal{C}$ is optimal with respect to the Hamming bound.

Abstract:We give methods for constructing many self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_m$-codes and Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $2n$ starting from a given self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_m$-code and Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-code of length $2n$, respectively. As an application, we construct extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $24$ for $k=4,5,\ldots,20$ and extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_{2k}$-codes of length $32$ for $k=4,5,\ldots,10$. We also construct new extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of lengths $56$ and $64$.

Abstract:In 1976, Helleseth conjectured that two binary m-sequences of length 2 m − 1 can not have a three-valued crosscorrelation function when m is a power of 2. We show that this conjecture is true when −1 is a correlation value. In other words, if ${{\mathcal{C}}_{1,k}}$ is the cyclic code of length 2 m − 1 with two zeros α, α k , where α is a primitive element of ${{\mathbb{F}}_{2^m}}$ and gcd(k, 2 m − 1) = 1, then its dual ${{\mathcal{C}}_{1,k}^{\perp}}$ can not have three weights when m is a power of 2.

Abstract:New $s$-extremal extremal unimodular lattices in dimensions $38$, $40$, $42$ and $44$ are constructed from self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_5$ by Construction A. In the process of constructing these codes, we obtain a self-dual $[44,22,14]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. In addition, the code implies a $[43,22,13]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. These codes have larger minimum weights than the previously known $[44,22]$ codes and $[43,22]$ codes, respectively.

On completely regular self-dual codes with covering radius $ρ\leq 3$

Abstract:We give a complete classification of self-dual completely regular codes with covering radius $\rho \leq 3$. For $\rho=1$ the results are almost trivial. For $\rho=2$, by using properties of the more general class of uniformly packed codes in the wide sense, we show that there are two sporadic such codes, of length $8$, and an infinite family, of length $4$, apart from the direct sum of two self-dual completely regular codes with $\rho=1$, each one. For $\rho=3$, in some cases, we use similar techniques to the ones used for $\rho=2$. However, for some other cases we use different methods, namely, the Pless power moments which allow to us to discard several possibilities. We show that there are only two self-dual completely regular codes with $\rho=3$ and $d\geq 3$, which are both ternary: the extended ternary Golay code and the direct sum of three ternary Hamming codes of length 4. Therefore, any self-dual completely regular code with $d\geq 3$ and $\rho=3$ is ternary and has length 12. We provide the intersection arrays for all such codes.

Abstract:The dual codes of the ternary linear codes of the residual designs of biplanes on 56 points are used to prove the nonexistence of quasi-symmetric 2-$(56,12,9)$ and 2-$(57,12,11)$ designs with intersection numbers 0 and 3, and the nonexistence of a 2-$(267,57,12)$ quasi-3 design. The nonexistence of a 2-$(149,37,9)$ quasi-3 design is also proved.

Abstract:We study the construction of quasi-cyclic self-dual codes, especially of binary cubic ones. We consider the binary quasi-cyclic codes of length 3ℓ$$3\ell $$ with the algebraic approach of Ling and Solé (IEEE Trans Inf Theory 47(7):2751–2760, 2001. doi:10.1109/18.959257). In particular, we improve the previous results by constructing 1 new binary [54, 27, 10], 6 new [60, 30, 12] and 50 new [66, 33, 12] cubic self-dual codes. We conjecture that there exist no more binary cubic self-dual codes with length 54, 60 and 66.
New extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length 64 by the doubling method

Abstract:Extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes are a class of self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes with Euclidean weights divisible by eight and the largest possible minimum Euclidean weight for a given length. A small number of such codes is known for lengths greater than or equal to $48.$ The doubling method is a method for constructing Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes from a given Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-code. Based on the doubling method, in this paper we develop a method to construct new extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes starting from an extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-code of type $4^k$ with an extremal residue code and length $48, 56$ or $64$. Using this method, we construct three new extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $64$ and type $4^{31}2^2$. Extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $64$ of this type were not known before. Moreover, the residue codes of the constructed extremal $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes are new best known $[64,31]$ binary codes and the supports of the minimum weight codewords of the residue code and the torsion code of one of these codes form self-orthogonal $1$-designs.

Abstract:In this paper, several classes of three-weight ternary linear codes from non-weakly regular dual-bent functions are constructed based on a generic construction method. Instead of the whole space, we use the subspaces $B_+(f)$ or $B_-(f)$ associated with a ternary non-weakly regular dual-bent function $f$. Unusually, we use the pre-image sets of the dual function $f^*$ in $B_+(f)$ or $B_-(f)$ as the defining sets of the corresponding codes. Since the size of the defining sets of the constructed codes is flexible, it enables us to construct several codes with different parameters for a fixed dimension. We represent the weight distribution of the constructed codes. We also give several examples.
Extension theorems for self-dual codes over rings and new binary self-dual codes

Abstract:In this work, extension theorems are generalized to self-dual codes over rings and as applications many new binary self-dual extremal codes are found from self-dual codes over F_2^m+uF_2^m for m = 1, 2. The duality and distance preserving Gray maps from F4 +uF4 to (F_2 +uF_2)^2 and (F_4)^2 are used to obtain self-dual codes whose binary Gray images are [64,32,12]-extremal self-dual. An F_2+uF_2-extension is used and as binary images, 178 extremal binary self-dual codes of length 68 with new weight enumerators are obtained. Especially the first examples of codes with gamma=3 and many codes with the rare gamma= 4, 6 parameters are obtained. In addition to these, two hundred fifty doubly even self dual [96,48,16]-codes with new weight enumerators are obtained from four-circulant codes over F_4 + uF_4. New extremal doubly even binary codes of lengths 80 and 88 are also found by the F_2+uF_2-lifts of binary four circulant codes and a corresponding result about 3-designs is stated.
