Abstract:In this paper, following the method of Cheng-Li-Yau, we first modify the coefficients in the constant $B_n$ to improve the volume gap. Further, we also enlarge our gap by applying an estimate of Cheng-Yang for eigenvalues of Laplacian.

Abstract:For a closed minimal submanifold $f:M^n\looparrowright \mathbb{S}^{N}$ in the unit sphere $(n<N)$, we prove $${\rm Vol}(M^n) \geq\frac{n+1}{n+2}\int_{M}\left( 1+\varphi_{p}^2\right) \geq m{\rm Vol}(\mathbb{S}^{n}),$$ where $\varphi_{p}(x):=\langle f(x),p\rangle$ is the height function in direction $p\in f(M)$, $m$ denotes the multiplicity of $p\in f(M)$ and ${\rm Vol}$ denotes the Riemannian volume functional, and each equality holds if and only if $M$ is totally geodesic. As an application, if the volume of $M^n$ is less than or equal to the volume of any $n$-dimensional minimal Clifford torus, then $M^n$ must be embedded, verifying the non-embedded case of Yau's conjecture. In addition, we also get volume gaps for minimal hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature, improving Cheng-Li-Yau's classical volume gap in this case. Some other volume gaps and related pinching rigidities are also obtained.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.

Abstract:Let M be an n (>= 7)-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the hyperbolic space Hn+p, whose mean curvature satisfies H-2-1 <= 0. Denote by angstrom and B-R(q) the trace free second fundamental form of M and the geodesic ball of radius R centered at q is an element of M, respectively. We prove that if lim(R ->infinity) sup integral(vertical bar angstrom vertical bar 2dM)(BR(q))/R-2 and if (integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n) dM)(2/n) + 2n(n-2)/3 root n(n-1) H(integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n/2)dM)(2/n) <= C(n), then M is congruent to an n-dimensional hyperbolic space or the Euclidean space R-n. Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Variations of Renormalized Volume for Minimal Submanifolds of Poincare-Einstein Manifolds

Abstract:We investigate the asymptotic expansion and the renormalized volume of minimal submanifolds, $Y^m$ of arbitrary codimension in Poincare-Einstein manifolds, $M^{n+1}$. In particular, we derive formulae for the first and second variations of renormalized volume for $Y^m \subseteq M^{n+1}$ when $m < n + 1$. We apply our formulae to the codimension $1$ and the $M = \mathbb{H}^{n+1}$ case. Furthermore, we prove the existence of an asymptotic description of our minimal submanifold, $Y$, over the boundary cylinder $\partial Y \times \mathbb{R}^+$, and we further derive an $L^2$-inner-product relationship between $u_2$ and $u_{m+1}$ when $M = \mathbb{H}^{n+1}$. Our results apply to a slightly more general class of manifolds, which are conformally compact with a metric that has an even expansion up to high order near the boundary.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a pinching condition for the characterization of the totally geodesic disk and the rotational annulus among minimal surfaces with free boundary in geodesic balls of three-dimensional hyperbolic space and hemisphere. The pinching condition involves the length of the second fundamental form, the support function of the surface, and a natural potential function in hyperbolic space and hemisphere.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain first a gap theorem for a class of conformally compact Einstein manifolds with a renormalized volume that is close to its maximum value. We also use a blow-up method to derive curvature estimates for conformally compact Einstein manifolds with large renormalized volume. The major part of this paper is the study of how a property of the conformal infinity influences the geometry of the interior of a conformally compact Einstein manifold. Specifically we are interested in conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinity whose Yamabe invariant is close to that of the round sphere. Based on the approach initiated by Dutta and Javaheri we present a complete proof of the relative volume inequality(Y(partial derivative X,[(g) over cap])/Y(Sn-1 ,[gs]))(n-1) <= Vol(partial derivative B-g+(p,t))/Vol(partial derivative B-gH+(0,t)) <= Vol(B-g+(p,t))/Vol(B-gH+(0,t)) <= 1,for conformally compact Einstein manifolds. This leads not only to the complete proof of the rigidity theorem for conformally compact Einstein manifolds in arbitrary dimension without spin assumption but also a new curvature pinching estimate for conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinities having large Yamabe invariant. We also derive curvature estimates for such manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a weighted Cheeger constant and show that the gap between the first two eigenvalues of a Riemannian manifold given Dirichlet conditions can be bounded from below in terms of this constant. When the Riemannian manifold is a bounded Euclidean domain satisfying an interior rolling sphere condition we give an estimate on the weighted Cheeger constant in terms of the rolling sphere radius, volume, a bound on the principal curvatures of the boundary and the dimension. This yields a lower bound on the nontrivial gap for Euclidean domains.

Abstract:The fundamental gap conjecture proved by Andrews and Clutterbuck in 2011 provides the sharp lower bound for the difference between the first two Dirichlet Laplacian eigenvalues in terms of the diameter of a convex set in $\mathbb{R}^N$. The question concerning the rigidity of the inequality, raised by Yau in 1990, was left open. Going beyond rigidity, our main result strengthens Andrews-Clutterbuck inequality, by quantifying geometrically the excess of the gap compared to the diameter in terms of flatness. The proof relies on a localized, variational interpretation of the fundamental gap, allowing a dimension reduction via the use of convex partitions à la Payne-Weinberger: the result stems by combining a new sharp result for one dimensional Schrödinger eigenvalues with measure potentials, with a thorough analysis of the geometry of the partition into convex cells. As a by-product of our approach, we obtain a quantitative form of Payne-Weinberger inequality for the first nontrivial Neumann eigenvalue of a convex set in $\mathbb{R}^N$, thus proving, in a stronger version, a conjecture from 2007 by Hang-Wang.

Abstract:In this paper, we show an optimal volume growth for self-shrinkers, and estimate a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of $\mathcal{L}$ operator on self-shrinkers, inspired by the first eigenvalue conjecture on minimal hypersurfaces in the unit sphere by Yau \cite{SY}. By the eigenvalue estimates, we can prove a compactness theorem on a class of compact self-shrinkers in $\ir{3}$ obtained by Colding-Minicozzi under weaker conditions.
Essential minimal volume of Einstein 4-manifolds

Abstract:The minimal volume of a closed manifold $M$ is the infimum of the volume of $(M,g)$ over all metrics $g$ with sectional curvature between $-1$ and $1$. We introduce a variant called the essential minimal volume, $\mathrm{ess-Minvol}(M)$, which is the limit, as $\delta>0$ goes to $0$, of the infimum of the volume of the $\delta$-thick part of $(M,g)$ over all metrics $g$ with sectional curvature between $-1$ and $1$. We show that, for some universal constant $C>0$, any closed Einstein 4-manifold $M$ with Euler characteristic $e(M)$ satisfies $$C^{-1}e(M) \leq \mathrm{ess-Minvol}(M) \leq Ce(M).$$ As a corollary, these inequalities are true for the essential minimal volume of closed complex surfaces of nonnegative Kodaira dimension. We conjecture that those linear bounds in fact hold for the minimal volume.

Abstract:Let B2(p) be an n-dimensional smooth geodesic ball with Ricci curvature ≥ −(n − 1)κ for some κ ≥ 0. We establish the Sobolev inequality and the uniform Neumann-Poincaré inequality on each minimal graph over B1(p) by combining CheegerColding theory and the current theory from geometric measure theory, where the constants in the inequalities only depends on n, κ, the lower bound of the volume of B1(p). As applications, we derive gradient estimates and a Liouville theorem for a minimal graph M over a smooth complete noncompact manifold Σ of nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Furthermore, we can show that any tangent cone of Σ at infinity splits off a line isometrically provided the graphic function of M admits linear growth.
The rigidity of minimal Legendrian submanifolds in the Euclidean spheres via eigenvalues of fundamental matrices

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem for compact minimal Legendrian submanifolds in the unit Euclidean spheres via eigenvalues of fundamental matrices, which measure the squared norms of the second fundamental form on all normal directions. By using Lu's inequality on the upper bound of the squared norm of Lie brackets of symmetric matrices, we establish an optimal pinching theorem for such submanifolds of all dimensions, giving a new characterization for the Calabi tori. This pinching condition can also be described by the eigenvalues of the Ricci curvature tensor. Moreover, when the third large eigenvalue of the fundamental matrix vanishes everywhere, we get an optimal rigidity theorem under a weaker pinching condition.

Abstract:Let M-n (n >= 3) be an n-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in Rn+P. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. By using a direct method, we prove that if integral(M)(S - nH(2))(n/2)dM < C(n), where C(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then S = nH(2), i.e., M-n is a totally umbilical submanifold. In particular, if H = 0, then M = R-n; if H not equal 0, then M = S-n (1/H). It improves the gap theorems proposed by Lei Ni and Xu.

Abstract:In this note, we investigate the well-known Yau rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in spheres. Using the parameter method of Yau and the DDVV inequality verified by Lu, Ge and Tang, we prove that if $M$ is an $n$-dimensional oriented compact minimal submanifold in the unit sphere $S^{n+p}(1)$, and if $K_{M}\geq\frac{sgn(p-1)p}{2(p+1)},$ then $M$ is either a totally geodesic sphere, the standard immersion of the product of two spheres, or the Veronese surface in $S^4(1)$. Here $sgn(\cdot)$ is the standard sign function. We also extend the rigidity theorem above to the case where $M$ is a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a space form.

Abstract:In this paper we determine a larger gap of the mean curvature for a class of proper biharmonic submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector field in Euclidean spheres. When the bounds of the gap are reached, we obtain splitting results of the submanifold.

Abstract:We provide a probabilistic proof of the fundamental gap estimate for Schrödinger operators in convex domains on the sphere, which extends the probabilistic proof of F. Gong, H. Li, and D. Luo for the Euclidean case. Our results further generalize the results achieved for the Laplacian by S. Seto, L. Wang, and G. Wei, as well as by C. He, G. Wei, and Qi S. Zhang. The essential ingredient in our analysis is the reflection coupling method on Riemannian manifolds.
