Abstract:The Navier-Stokes system for an incompressible fluid coupled with the equation for a heat transfer is considered in the whole three dimensional space. This system is invariant under a suitable scaling. Using the Leray-Schauder theorem and compactness arguments, we construct self-similar solutions to this system without any smallness assumptions imposed on homogeneous initial conditions.

Abstract:We consider stochastic forced Navier--Stokes equations on $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ starting from zero initial condition. The noise is linear multiplicative and the equations are perturbed by an additional body force. Based on the ideas of Albritton, Brué and Colombo \cite{ABC22}, we prove non-uniqueness of local-in-time Leray--Hopf solutions as well as joint non-uniqueness in law for solutions on $\mathbb{R}^{+}$. In the deterministic setting, we show that the set of forces, for which Leray--Hopf solutions are non-unique, is dense in $L^{1}_{t}L^{2}_{x}$. In addition, by a simple controllability argument we show that for every divergence-free initial condition in $L^{2}_{x}$ there is a force so that non-uniqueness of Leray--Hopf solutions holds.

Abstract:We study an initial-boundary value problem for a two-dimensional Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard-Boussinesq system for a mixture of two incompressible Newtonian fluids caused by thermo-induced Marangoni effect. The singular potential is considered. Given suitable initial and boundary conditions, we prove the existence of global weak solutions and global strong solutions. We also give a criterion of continuous dependence with respect to the initial data (uniqueness).

Abstract:This paper concerns the forced stochastic Navier-Stokes equation driven by additive noise in the three dimensional Euclidean space. By constructing an appropriate forcing term, we prove that there exist distinct Leray solutions in the probabilistically weak sense. In particular, the joint uniqueness in law fails in the Leray class. The non-uniqueness also displays in the probabilistically strong sense in the local time regime, up to stopping times. Furthermore, we discuss the optimality from two different perspectives: sharpness of the hyper-viscous exponent and size of the external force. These results in particular yield that the Lions exponent is the sharp viscosity threshold for the uniqueness/non-uniqueness in law of Leray solutions. Our proof utilizes the self-similarity and instability programme developed by Jia Šverák [42,43] and Albritton-Brué-Colombo [1], together with the theory of martingale solutions including stability for non-metric spaces and gluing procedure.

Abstract:We study the stationary Navier–Stokes equations in the whole plane with a compactly supported force term and with a prescribed constant spatial limit. Prior to this work, existence of solutions to this problem was only known under special symmetry and smallness assumptions. In the paper we solve the key difficulties in applying Leray’s invading domains method and, as a consequence, prove the existence of D-solutions in the whole plane for arbitrary compactly supported force. The boundary condition at infinity are verified in two different scenarios: (I) the limiting velocity is sufficiently large with respect to the external force, (II) both the total integral of force and the limiting velocity vanish. Hence, our method produces large class of new solutions with prescribed spatial limits. Moreover, we show the uniqueness of D-solutions to this problem in a perturbative regime. The main tools here are two new estimates for general Navier–Stokes solutions, which have rather simple forms. They control the difference between mean values of the velocity over two concentric circles in terms of the Dirichlet integral in the annulus between them.

Abstract:Discretely self-similar solutions to Oberbeck-Boussinesq system with Newtonian gravitational field for large discretely self-similar initial data are constructed in this note, extending the construction of Brandolese and Karch (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2311.01093" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.01093">arXiv:2311.01093</a>) on self-similar solutions. It follows the approach of Bradshaw and Tsai (Ann.~Henri Poincaré 2017) and find an explicit a priori bound for the deviation from suitably revised profiles in similarity variables.

Abstract:We establish that global-in-time existence and non-uniqueness of probabilistically strong solutions to the three dimensional Navier–Stokes system driven by space-time white noise. In this setting, solutions are expected to have space regularity of at most for any . Consequently, the convective term is ill-defined analytically and probabilistic renormalization is required. Up until now, only local well-posedness has been known. With the help of paracontrolled calculus we decompose the system in a way which makes it amenable to convex integration. By a careful analysis of the regularity of each term, we develop an iterative procedure which yields global non-unique probabilistically strong paracontrolled solutions. Our result applies to any divergence free initial condition in , , and also implies non-uniqueness in law.

Abstract:In this article, we consider the global existence and uniqueness of the solution to the 2D incompressible non-resistive MHD system with non-equilibrium background magnetic field. Our result implies that a strong enough non-equilibrium background magnetic field will guarantee the stability of the nonlinear MHD system. Beside the classical energy method, the interpolation inequalities and the algebraic structure of the equations coming from the incompressibility of the fluid are crucial in our arguments.

Abstract:We consider the flow of two viscous and incompressible fluids within a bounded domain modeled by means of a two-phase Navier–Stokes system. The two fluids are assumed to be immiscible, meaning that they are separated by an interface. With respect to the motion of the interface, we consider pure transport by the fluid flow. Along the boundary of the domain, a complete slip boundary condition for the fluid velocities and a constant ninety degree contact angle condition for the interface are assumed. In the present work, we devise for the resulting evolution problem a suitable weak solution concept based on the framework of varifolds and establish as the main result a weak-strong uniqueness principle in 2D. The proof is based on a relative entropy argument and requires a non-trivial further development of ideas from the recent work of Fischer and the first author (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 236, 2020) to incorporate the contact angle condition. To focus on the effects of the necessarily singular geometry of the evolving fluid domains, we work for simplicity in the regime of same viscosities for the two fluids.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 56, Issue 2, Page 2248-2285, April 2024. In this paper we establish a sharp nonuniqueness result for stochastic [math]-dimensional ([math]) incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. First, for every divergence-free initial condition in [math] we show existence of infinitly many global-in-time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions in the class [math] for any [math]. Second, we prove that the above result is sharp in the sense that pathwise uniqueness holds in the class of [math] for some [math] such that [math], which is a stochastic version of Ladyzhenskaya–Prodi–Serrin criteria. Moreover, for the stochastic [math]-dimensional incompressible Euler equation, the existence of infinitely many global-in-time probabilistically strong and analytically weak solutions is obtained. Compared to the stopping time argument used in Hoffmanová, Zhu, and Zhu [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS), to appear; Ann. Probab., 51 (2023), pp. 524–579], we developed a new stochastic version of the convex integration. More precisely, we introduce expectation during convex integration scheme and construct directly solutions on the whole time interval [math].

Non-uniqueness of Leray weak solutions of the forced MHD equations

Abstract:In this paper, we exhibit non-uniqueness of Leray weak solutions of the forced magnetohydrodynamic (MHD for short) equations. Similar to the solutions constructed in \cite{ABC2}, we first find a special steady solution of ideal MHD equations whose linear unstability was proved in \cite{Lin}. It is possible to perturb the unstable scenario of ideal MHD to 3D viscous and resistive MHD equations, which can be regarded as the first unstable "background" solution. Our perturbation argument is based on the spectral theoretic approach \cite{Kato}. The second solution we would construct is a trajectory on the unstable manifold associated to the unstable steady solution. It is worth noting that these solutions live precisely on the borderline of the known well-posedness theory.

Abstract:In this paper, uniqueness and uniform structural stability of Poiseuille flows in an infinitely long pipe with Navier boundary conditions are established for axisymmetric solutions of steady Navier-Stokes system. The crucial point is that the estimate is uniform with respect both the flux of flows and slip coefficient which appeared in Navier boundary conditions. With the aid of special structure of Navier-Stokes system and the refined estimate for some quantities such as radial velocity, the uniqueness and existence of steady solutions of Navier-Stokes system can be obtained even when the external forces are large as long as the fluxes of flows are large. The delicate decomposition in the two dimensional plane for slip coefficient and frequency corresponding to Fourier variable in the axial direction plays a key role to achieve these estimates.

Abstract:We study the incompressible stationary Navier-Stokes equations in the upper-half plane with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and non-zero external forcing terms. Existence of weak solutions is proved under a suitable condition on the external forces. Weak-strong uniqueness criteria based on various growth conditions at the infinity of weak solutions are also given. This is done by employing an energy estimate and a Hardy's inequality. Several estimates of stream functions are carried out and two density lemmas with suitable weights for the homogeneous Sobolev space on 2-dimensional space are proved.

Abstract:We study the non-uniqueness of weak solutions for the two-dimensional hyper-dissipative Navier-Stokes equations in the super-critical spaces $L_{t}^{\gamma}L_{x}^{p}$ when $\alpha\in[1,\frac{3}{2})$, and obtain the conclusion that the non-uniqueness of the weak solutions at the endpoint $(\gamma,p)=(\infty, \frac{2}{2\alpha-1})$ is sharp in view of the generalized Ladyženskaja-Prodi-Serrin condition by using a different spatial-temporal building block from [Cheskidov-Luo, Ann. PDE, 9:13 (2023)] and taking advantage of the intermittency of the temporal concentrated function $g_{(k)}$ in an almost optimal way. Our results recover the above 2D non-uniqueness conclusion and extend to the hyper-dissipative case $\alpha \in(1,\frac{3}{2})$.

Abstract:A diffuse-interface model that describes the dynamics of nonhomogeneous incompressible two-phase viscous flows is investigated in a bounded smooth domain in ${\mathbb R}^3.$ The dynamics of the state variables is described by the nonhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard system. We first give a blow-up criterion of local strong solution to the initial-boundary-value problem for the case of initial density away from zero. After establishing some key a priori with the help of the Landau Potential, we obtain the global existence and decay-in-time of strong solution, provided that the initial date $\|\nabla u_0\|_{L^{2}(\Omega)}+\|\nabla \mu_0\|_{L^{2}(\Omega)}+\rho_0$ is suitably small.
