Abstract:We prove a dichotomy for o-minimal fields $\mathcal{R}$, expanded by a $T$-convex valuation ring (where $T$ is the theory of $\mathcal{R}$) and a compatible monomial group. We show that if $T$ is power bounded, then this expansion of $\mathcal{R}$ is model complete (assuming that $T$ is), it has a distal theory, and the definable sets are geometrically tame. On the other hand, if $\mathcal{R}$ defines an exponential function, then the natural numbers are externally definable in our expansion, precluding any sort of model theoretic tameness.

Abstract:Let $T$ be the theory of an o-minimal field, and $T_{\mathrm{convex}}$ the theory of its expansion by a predicate $\mathcal{O}$ for a non-trivial $T$-convex valuation ring. For $\lambda$ an uncountable cardinal, say that a unary type $p(x)$ over a model of $T_{\mathrm{convex}}$ is \emph{$\lambda$-bounded weakly immediate} if its cut is defined by an empty intersection of fewer than $\lambda$ many nested valuation balls. Call an elementary extension \emph{$\lambda$-bounded wim-constructible} if it is obtained as a transfinite composition of extensions each generated by one element whose type is $\lambda$-bounded weakly immediate. I show that $\lambda$-bounded wim-constructible extensions do not extend the residue-field sort and that any two wim-constructible extensions can be amalgamated in an extension which is again $\lambda$-bounded wim-constructible over both. A consequence is that given an uncountable cardinal $\lambda$, every model of $T_{\mathrm{convex}}$ has a unique-up-to-non-unique-isomorphism $\lambda$-spherically complete $\lambda$-bounded wim-constructible extension. We call this extension the $T$-$\lambda$-spherical completion. When $T$ is power bounded wim-constructible extensions are just the immediate extensions. I discuss the example of power bounded theories expanded by $\exp$.

On the structure of $T$-$λ$-spherical completions of o-minimal fields

Abstract:Let $T$ be the theory of an o-minimal field and $T_0$ a common reduct of $T$ and $T_{an}$. I adapt Mourgues' and Ressayre's constructions to deduce structure results for $T_0$-reducts of $T$-$\lambda$-spherical completion of models of $T_{\mathrm{convex}}$. These in particular entail that whenever $\mathbb{R}_L$ is a reduct of $\mathbb{R}_{an,\exp}$ defining the exponential, every elementary extension of $\mathbb{R}_L$ has an elementary truncation-closed embedding in the class-sized field $\mathbf{No}$ of surreal numbers. This partially answers a question in [3](<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2002.07739" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2002.07739">arXiv:2002.07739</a>). The main technical result is that certain expansion of Hahn fields by generalized power series interpreted as functions defined on the positive infinitesimal elements, have the property that truncation closed subsets generate truncation closed substructures. This leaves room for possible generalizations to the case in which $T_0$ is power bounded but not necessarily a reduct of $T_{an}$.

Abstract:We show that, for a certain large class of power-bounded $o$-minimal $\mathcal{L}_T$-theories $T$ whose field of exponents is infinite-dimensional as a vector space over the rationals, any definable set in a $T$-convex valued field $(\mathcal{R}, \mathfrak{O})$ is in a precise sense the limit of a family of $\mathcal{L}_T$-definable sets indexed over the residue field. Alternatively, in the mainstream model-theoretic language, this says that if $(\mathcal{R}', \mathfrak{O}')$ is an elementary substructure of $(\mathcal{R}, \mathfrak{O})$ and if the residue field of $\mathfrak{O}$ contains an element that is infinitesimal relative to the residue field of $\mathfrak{O}'$ then any set $A \subseteq (\mathcal{R}')^m$ definable in $(\mathcal{R}', \mathfrak{O}')$ is the trace of a set definable in $\mathcal{R}$.

Abstract:Let $T$ be a complete, model complete o-minimal theory extending the theory of real closed ordered fields and assume that $T$ is power bounded. Let $K$ be a model of $T$ equipped with a $T$-convex valuation ring $\mathcal{O}$ and a $T$-derivation $\partial$ such that $\partial$ is monotone, i.e., weakly contractive with respect to the valuation induced by $\mathcal{O}$. We show that the theory of monotone $T$-convex $T$-differential fields, i.e., the common theory of such $K$, has a model completion, which is complete and distal. Among the axioms of this model completion, we isolate an analogue of henselianity that we call $T^{\partial}$-henselianity. We establish an Ax--Kochen/Ershov theorem and further results for monotone $T$-convex $T$-differential fields that are $T^{\partial}$-henselian.

Abstract:We describe the surjective isometries of the unit sphere of real Schreier spaces of all orders and their $p$-convexifications, for $1 < p < \infty$. This description allows us to provide for those spaces a positive answer to a special case of Tingley's problem, which asks whether every surjective isometry of the unit sphere of a real Banach space can be extended to a linear isometry of the entire space.

Abstract:We consider the optimization problem $(P_{A})$ $\inf_{x\in X}\{f(x)+g(Ax)\}$ where $f$ and $g$ are proper convex functions defined on locally convex Hausdorff topological vector spaces $X$ and $Y$, respectively, and $A$ is a linear operator from $X$ to $Y$. By using the properties of the epigraph of the conjugated functions, some sufficient and necessary conditions for the strong Fenchel duality and the strong converse Fenchel duality of $(P_{A})$ are provided. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the stable Fenchel duality and for the total Fenchel duality are also derived.
C-minimal fields have the exchange property

Abstract:We show that C-minimal fields (i.e., C-minimal expansions of ACVF) have the exchange property, answering a question of Haskell and Macpherson. Additionally, we strengthen some theorems of Cubides Kovacsics and Delon on C-minimal fields. First, we show that definably complete C-minimal fields of characteristic 0 have generic differentiability. Second, we show that if the induced structure on the residue field is a pure ACF, then polynomial boundedness holds. In fact, polynomial boundedness can only fail if there are unexpected definable automorphisms of the multiplicative group of the residue field.

Abstract:Generalizing previous work on algebraically closed valued fields (ACVF) and o-minimal fields, we study strongly minimal relics of real closed valued fields (RCVF), and more generally T-convex expansions of o-minimal fields. Our main result (replicating the o-minimal setting) is that non-locally modular strongly minimal definable relics of T-convex fields must be two-dimensional. We also continue our work on reducing the trichotomy for general relics of a structure to just the relics of certain distinguished sorts. To this end, we prove that the trichotomy for definable RCVF-relics implies the trichotomy for interpretable RCVF-relics, and also that the trichotomy for relics of o-minimal fields implies the trichotomy for relics of any dense o-minimal structure. Finally, we introduce the class of differentiable Hausdorff geometric fields (containing o-minimal fields and various valued fields), and give a general treatment of the trichotomy for one-dimensional relics of such fields (namely, reducing the trichotomy for one-dimensional relics to an axiomatic condition on the field itself).

Abstract:This paper deals with Hensel minimal structures on non-trivially valued fields $K$. The main aim is to establish the following two properties of closed 0-definable subsets $A$ in the affine spaces $K^{n}$. Every such subset $A$ is the zero locus of a continuous 0-definable function $f:K^{n} \to K$, and there exists a 0-definable retraction $r: K^{n} \to A$. While the former property is a non-Archimedean counterpart of the one from o-minimal geometry, the former does not hold in real geometry in general. The proofs make use of a model-theoretic compactness argument and ubiquity of clopen sets in non-Archimedean geometry.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth variety over a field of characteristic $p$. It is a natural question whether the Frobenius pushforwards $F_*^e\mathcal O_X$ of the structure sheaf are tilting bundles. We show if $X$ is a smooth del Pezzo surface of degree $\leq 3$ or a Fano threefold with $\mathrm{vol}(K_X)<24$ over a field of characteristic $p$, then $\mathrm{Ext}^i(F_*^e\mathcal O_X,F^e_*\mathcal O_X)\neq 0$ and thus $F_*^e\mathcal O_X$ is not tilting.

Abstract:In this note we study one-dimensional definable sets in power series fields with perfect residue fields. Using the description of automorphisms given by Schilling, in \cite{S44}, we show that such sets are unions of existentially definable in the language of rings, allowing parameters. We deduce that if $F$ is a perfect field of positive characteristic $p$, and $X$ is a subset of the $t$-adically valued $F((t))$ that is definable in the language of valued fields with parameters from $F$, then the subfield $(X)$ generated by $X$ is either contained in $F$ or equal to $F((t^{p^n}))$, for some $n\geq0$. The proof uses our earlier work on existentially definable subsets of henselian and large fields, of which power series fields are examples.

Abstract:We define and study a notion of minimal exponent for a locally complete intersection subscheme $Z$ of a smooth complex algebraic variety $X$, extending the invariant defined by Saito in the case of hypersurfaces. Our definition is in terms of the Kashiwara-Malgrange $V$-filtration associated to $Z$. We show that the minimal exponent describes how far the Hodge filtration and order filtration agree on the local cohomology $H^r_Z({\mathcal O}_X)$, where $r$ is the codimension of $Z$ in $X$. We also study its relation to the Bernstein-Sato polynomial of $Z$. Our main result describes the minimal exponent of a higher codimension subscheme in terms of the invariant associated to a suitable hypersurface; this allows proving the main properties of this invariant by reduction to the codimension $1$ case. A key ingredient for our main result is a description of the Kashiwara-Malgrange $V$-filtration associated to any ideal $(f_1,\ldots,f_r)$ in terms of the microlocal $V$-filtration associated to the hypersurface defined by $\sum_{i=1}^rf_iy_i$.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal F$ be a holomorphic foliation on a compact Káhler surface with hyperbolic singularities and no foliation cycle. We prove that if the limit set of $\mathcal F$ has zero Lebesgue measure, then its complement is a modification of a Stein domain. The proof consists in building, in several steps, a metric of positive curvature for the normal bundle of $\mathcal F$ near the limit set. Then we construct a proper strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function for the complement of the limit set, by adapting Brunella's ideas to our singular context. The arguments hold more generally when the limit set is thin, a property relying on Brownian motion.

Abstract:In this paper we study compact monotone tall complexity one $T$-spaces. We use the classification of Karshon and Tolman, and the monotone condition, to prove that any two such spaces are isomorphic if and only if they have equal Duistermaat-Heckman measures. Moreover, we show that the moment polytope is Delzant and reflexive, and provide a complete description of the possible Duistermaat-Heckman measures. Whence we obtain a finiteness result that is analogous to that for compact monotone symplectic toric manifolds. Furthermore, we show that any such $T$-action can be extended to a toric $(T \times S^1)$-action. Motivated by a conjecture of Fine and Panov, we prove that any compact monotone tall complexity one $T$-space is equivariantly symplectomorphic to a Fano manifold endowed with a suitable symplectic form and a complexity one $T$-action.
