Abstract:Let N be a large enough natural number, A and B be subsets of {N+1, ... , 2N}. In this paper, we prove that there exists integers a, b with a belongs to A, b belongs to B such that ab=P_k^2 + O(P_k^{1-c}), where 0<c<1/2 and P_k denotes an almost-prime with at most k prime factors, counted with multiplicity.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Abstract:We establish quantitative lower bounds for the number of primes $p$ such that, for an odd integer $b$, $p - b \leq N$ and $p - b = 2^{k(N) + m} P_k \quad \text{for some } m \geq 0$, where $P_k$ is a product of at most $k$ primes other than 2, for $k \geq 2$. These results hold under various upper bounds for $2^{k(N)}$ depending on $k $, specifically when $2^{k(N)} \leq N^a$ for different values of $a$. Our approach combines techniques from Chen's theorem, weighted sieves, and Selberg's lower bound sieve, as well as results on primes in arithmetic progressions with large power factor moduli.

In this paper, we obtain an unexpected congruence for distinct odd primes [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and positive integers [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and the necessary and sufficient condition for [Formula: see text] Finally, we raise a conjecture that for [Formula: see text] and odd prime power [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] However, we fail to prove it even for [Formula: see text] with three distinct prime factors.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider some hybrid Diophantine equations of addition and multiplication. We first improve a result on new Hilbert-Waring problem. Then we consider the equation \begin{equation} \begin{cases} A+B=C ABC=D^n \end{cases} \end{equation} where $A,B,C,D,n \in\ZZ_{+}$ and $n\geq3$, which may be regarded as a generalization of Fermat's equation $x^n+y^n=z^n$. When $\gcd(A,B,C)=1$, $(1)$ is equivalent to Fermat's equation, which means it has no positive integer solutions. We discuss several cases for $\gcd(A,B,C)=p^k$ where $p$ is an odd prime. In particular, for $k=1$ we prove that $(1)$ has no nonzero integer solutions when $n=3$ and we conjecture that it is also true for any prime $n>3$. Finally, we consider equation $(1)$ in quadratic fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{t})$ for $n=3$.

Abstract:For any real number $t$, let $[t]$ denote the integer part of $t$. In this paper it is proved that if $1<c<\frac{247}{238}$, then for sufficiently large integer $N$, the equation \[\left[p^{c}\right]+\left[m^{c}\right]=N\] has a solution in a prime $p$ and an almost prime $m$ with at most $\left[\frac{450}{247-238c}\right]+1$ prime factors. This result constitutes an improvement upon that of Petrov and Tolev.

Abstract:Let $x$ and $n$ be positive integers. We prove a non-trivial lower bound for $x$, dependant only on $\omega_n$, the number of distinct prime factors of $x^n-1$. By considering the divisibility of $\varphi \mid x^n-1$ for $\varphi \mid n$, we obtain a further refinement. This bound has applications for existence problems relating to primitive elements in finite fields.

In this paper, we prove that for $ 1 < c < \frac{104349}{77419} $, $ c\neq\frac{4}{3} $, for almost all real numbers $ T\in(N, 2N] $ (in the sense of Lebesgue measure), the Diophantine inequality $ |p_1^c+p_2^c-T| < T^{-\frac{9}{10c}\left(\frac{104349}{77419}-c\right)} $ is solvable in primes $ p_1, p_2 $. In addition, it is proved that the Diophantine inequality $ |p_1^c+p_2^c+p_3^c+p_4^c-N| < N^{-\frac{9}{10c}\left(\frac{104349}{77419}-c\right)} $ is solvable in primes $ p_1, p_2, p_3, p_4 $. This result constitutes a refinement upon that of Li and Cai.

Abstract:For all $\alpha_1,\alpha_2\in(1,2)$ with $1/\alpha_1+1/\alpha_2>5/3$, we show that the number of pairs $(n_1,n_2)$ of positive integers with $N=\lfloor{n_1^{\alpha_1}}\rfloor+\lfloor{n_2^{\alpha_2}}\rfloor$ is equal to $\Gamma(1+1/\alpha_1)\Gamma(1+1/\alpha_2)\Gamma(1/\alpha_1+1/\alpha_2)^{-1}N^{1/\alpha_1+1/\alpha_2-1} + o(N^{1/\alpha_1+1/\alpha_2-1})$ as $N\to\infty$, where $\Gamma$ denotes the gamma function. Moreover, we show a non-asymptotic result for the same counting problem when $\alpha_1,\alpha_2\in(1,2)$ lie in a larger range than the above. Finally, we give some asymptotic formulas for similar counting problems in a heuristic way.

Abstract:For two relatively prime square-free positive integers $a$ and $b$, we study integers of the form $a p+b P_{2}$ and give a new lower bound for it, where $a p$ and $b P_{2}$ are both square-free, $p$ denotes a prime, and $P_{2}$ has at most two prime factors. We also consider some special cases where $p$ is small, $p$ and $P_2$ are within short intervals, $p$ and $P_2$ are within arithmetical progressions and a Goldbach-type upper bound result. Abstract:In a recent joint work with D.A. Goldston and C.Y. Yildirim we just missed by a hairbreadth a proof that bounded gaps between primes occur infinitely often. In the present work it is shown that adding to the primes a much thinner set, called almost prime powers, the union of the set of primes and almost prime powers contains already infinitely many bounded gaps. More precisely it is shown that if we add to the set of primes either almost prime squares having exactly two, nearly equal prime factors or if we add to the set of primes almost prime cubes having exactly three, nearly equal prime factors, then the resulting set contains already infinitely many bounded gaps.

Abstract:We study the distribution of families of multiplicative functions among the coprime residue classes to moduli varying uniformly in a wide range, obtaining analogues of the Siegel--Walfisz Theorem for large classes of multiplicative functions. We extend a criterion of Narkiewicz for families of multiplicative functions that can be controlled by values of polynomials at the first few prime powers, and establish results that are completely uniform in the modulus as well as optimal in most parameters and hypotheses. This also significantly generalizes and improves upon previous work done for a single such function in specialized settings. Our results have applications for most interesting multiplicative functions, such as the Euler totient function $\phi(n)$, the sum-of-divisors function $\sigma(n)$, the coefficients of the Eisenstein series, etc., and families of these functions. For instance, an application of our results shows that for any fixed $\epsilon>0$, the functions $\phi(n)$ and $\sigma(n)$ are jointly asymptotically equidistributed among the reduced residue classes to moduli $q$ coprime to $6$ varying uniformly up to $(\log x)^{(1-\epsilon)\alpha(q)}$, where $\alpha(q) = \prod_{\ell \mid q} (\ell-3)/(\ell-1)$; furthermore, the coprimality restriction is necessary and the range of $q$ is essentially optimal. One of the primary themes behind our arguments is the quantitative detection of a certain mixing (or ergodicity) phenomenon in multiplicative groups via methods belonging to the `anatomy of integers', but we also rely heavily on more pure analytic arguments (such as a suitable modification of the Landau-Selberg-Delange method), -- whilst using several tools from arithmetic and algebraic geometry, and from linear algebra over rings as well.
