Abstract:We characterize a class of superclassical non-Markovian open quantum system dynamics that are defined by their lack of measurement invasiveness when the corresponding observable commutates with the pre-measurement state. This diagonal non-invasiveness guarantees that joint probabilities for measurement outcomes fulfill classical Kolmogorov consistency conditions. These features are fulfilled regardless of the previous (measurement) system history and are valid at arbitrary later times after an arbitrary system initialization. It is shown that a subclass of depolarizing dynamics, which are based on a (time-irreversible) non-unitary system-environment coupling, satisfy the required properties. The relationship with other operational [Milz et al., Phys. Rev. X 10, 041049 (2020)] and non-operational [Banacki et al., Phys. Rev. A 107, 032202 (2023)] notions of classicality in non-Markovian open quantum systems is studied in detail and exemplified through different examples.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to represent the dynamics of a class of super - classical non - Markovian open quantum systems. These dynamics are characterized by non - invasiveness of measurement when the state before measurement commutes with the measured observable. This diagonal non - invasiveness ensures that the joint probabilities of measurement results satisfy the classical Kolmogorov consistency conditions. This type of dynamics is valid at any time after arbitrary initialization, regardless of the previous history of the system. The paper particularly focuses on a class of depolarization dynamics based on time - irreversible non - unitary system - environment couplings and studies their relationships with existing operational and non - operational definitions of classicality. Specifically, the paper mainly explores the following issues: 1. **Defining and characterizing super - classical non - Markovian open quantum system dynamics**: The paper first reviews different operational and non - operational definitions of classicality, and then proposes the definition of super - classicality, that is, the dynamics still maintain diagonal non - invasiveness under any pre - and post - measurement history. 2. **Comparing different definitions of classicality**: The paper compares in detail the relationships between super - classicality and previous non - operational (such as information back - flow) and operational (such as measurement non - invasiveness) definitions of classicality. 3. **Determining the types of dynamics that satisfy the definition of super - classicality**: The paper finds that depolarization dynamics is a class of dynamics that can satisfy the definition of super - classicality, and explores the applications of these dynamics in quantum information platforms. 4. **Providing specific examples**: Through specific examples, the paper shows different types of super - classical dynamics, including dynamics that do not generate quantum entanglement and dynamics that generate quantum entanglement, and analyzes the behavior of these dynamics in the presence of memory effects. In summary, the paper aims to gain a deep understanding of the boundary between classicality and quantumness in non - Markovian open quantum systems, and verify these concepts through theoretical analysis and specific examples.
