Abstract:The anomalous velocity deviation in the osculating planetary flyby attracts enough attention as a problem of General Relativity. In connection of rotating weak field massive source the Lense Thirring metric is diagonalized to find the equation of motion from action invariance Hamilton principle in pure relativistic theory. The computation for near Earth flyby shows energy anomaly over the asymptotic in and out velocity obeying Anderson's empirical formula.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the velocity anomaly observed during the planetary gravitational assist flyby, namely the so - called "flyby anomaly". Specifically, when a spacecraft performs an Earth - gravitational - assist flyby, its velocity undergoes unexpected changes during the approach to and departure from the Earth, and these changes cannot be fully explained by existing classical mechanics or general relativity theories. By using the variational principle in general relativity, the paper diagonalizes the Lense - Thirring metric of a rotating, weak - field, massive source, and then derives the equation of motion of the spacecraft during the flyby, and finally calculates the energy anomaly during the flyby, obtaining results consistent with the empirical formula proposed by Anderson et al. ### Main contributions of the paper: 1. **Diagonalization of the Lense - Thirring metric**: By diagonalizing the Lense - Thirring metric, the paper simplifies the calculation process, making it more convenient to apply the variational principle of general relativity to study the dynamic behavior during the flyby. 2. **Calculation of energy anomaly**: Based on the diagonalized metric, the paper derives the formula for the velocity change of the spacecraft during the flyby and verifies the consistency of this result with the empirical formula proposed by Anderson et al. 3. **Verification of the theoretical model**: The paper explains the flyby anomaly phenomenon by a pure general relativity method without introducing non - standard physical models, such as non - Newtonian gravity, post - Newtonian parameterized theory (PPN), gravitational magnetic effect, etc. ### Key formulas: - **Anderson's empirical formula**: \[ \frac{\Delta V}{V_{\infty}} = K(\cos\delta_i - \cos\delta_o) \] where \( V_{\infty} \) is the asymptotic velocity of the spacecraft, \( \delta_i \) and \( \delta_o \) are the declinations of the incident and outgoing velocity vectors respectively, \( K \) is a constant, approximately equal to \( \frac{2\omega_{\oplus}R_{\oplus}}{c} \), where \( \omega_{\oplus} \) is the angular velocity of the Earth's rotation, \( R_{\oplus} \) is the radius of the Earth, and \( c \) is the speed of light. - **Formula for velocity change during flyby**: \[ \frac{\Delta v}{v} = - 6\left(\frac{A}{b}\right)_{\oplus}(\sin\theta_o - \sin\theta_i) \] Further transformed into: \[ \frac{\Delta v}{v_{\infty}} = 2.4\left(\frac{R_{\oplus}}{R_{\oplus} + h}\right)\frac{\omega_{\oplus}R_{\oplus}}{c}(\cos\delta_i - \cos\delta_o) \] where \( h \) is the flyby altitude, \( \theta_i \) and \( \theta_o \) are the polar angles of the incident and outgoing points respectively, and \( \delta_i \) and \( \delta_o \) are the declinations of the incident and outgoing points respectively. ### Conclusion: The paper successfully explains the flyby anomaly phenomenon by a pure general relativity method, and the calculation results are consistent with the observational data. This provides a new theoretical framework for understanding the dynamic behavior during the flyby without relying on complex non - standard physical models.
