Abstract:We obtain asymptotic bounds on the number of natural numbers less than $X$ satisfying $\gcd{\left(n,\lfloor P(n) \rfloor\right)}=1$, under some diophantine conditions on the coefficient of $x$ in $P$, and show that the density of such naturals is exactly $\dfrac{1}{\zeta{\left(2\right)}}$.

Abstract:Let $P$ and $T$ be disjoint sets of prime numbers with $T$ finite. A simple formula is given for the natural density of the set of square-free numbers which are divisible by all of the primes in $T$ and by none of the primes in $P$. If $P$ is the set of primes congruent to $r$ modulo $m$ (where $m$ and $r$ are relatively prime numbers), then this natural density is shown to be $0$.

Abstract:In this paper we determine the asymptotic density of coprime fractions in those of the reduced fractions of number fields. When ordered by norms of denominators, we count a fraction as soon as it ``appears'' for the first time and no later. The natural density of coprime fractions in the set of reduced fractions may then be computed using well-known facts about Hecke $L$-functions. Furthermore, we draw some connections to the modular group and Heegner points.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a density version of the Waring-Goldbach problem. Suppose that A is a subset of the primes, and the lower density of A in the primes is larger than 1-1/2k. We prove that every sufficiently large natural number n satisfying the necessary congruence condition can be expressed as a sum of s terms of the k-th powers of primes from set A, where s is a positive integer dependent on k.

Abstract:We compute the density of primes represented by a special quadratic form in a fixed square residue class. Using this result and a new method introduced by Thaine we prove the fact that for a prime p > 3 congruent to 3 modulo 4, the component e ( p +1)/2 of the p -Sylow subgroup of the ideal class group of ℚ( ζ p ) is trivial.

Abstract:We consider Artin's conjecture on primitive roots over a number field $K$, reducing an algebraic number $\alpha\in K^\times$. Under the Generalised Riemann Hypothesis, there is a density ${\mathrm{dens}}(\alpha)$ counting the proportion of the primes of $K$ for which $\alpha$ is a primitive root. This density ${\mathrm{dens}}(\alpha)$ is a rational multiple of an Artin constant $A(\tau)$ that depends on the largest integer $\tau\geq 1$ such that $\alpha\in (K^\times)^\tau$. The aim of this paper is bounding the ratio ${\mathrm{dens}}(\alpha)/A(\tau)$, under the assumption that ${\mathrm{dens}}(\alpha)\neq 0$. Over $\mathbb Q$, this ratio is between $2/3$ and $2$, these bounds being optimal. For a general number field $K$ we provide upper and lower bounds that only depend on $K$.

Density formulas for $p$-adically bounded primes for hypergeometric series with rational and quadratic irrational parameters

Abstract:We study densities of $p$-adically bounded primes for hypergeometric series in two cases: the case of generalized hypergeometric series with rational parameters, and the case of $_2F_1$ with parameters in a quadratic extension of the rational numbers. In the rational case we extend work from $_2F_1$ to $_nF_{n-1}$ for an exact formula giving the density of bounded primes for the series. The density is shown to be one exactly in accordance with the case of finite monodromy as classified by Beukers-Heckmann. In the quadratic irrational case, we obtain an unconditional lower bound on the density of bounded primes. Assuming the normality of the $p$-adic digits of quadratic irrationalities, this lower bound is shown to be an exact formula for the density of bounded primes. In the quadratic irrational case, there is a trivial upper bound of $1/2$ on the density of bounded primes. In the final section of the paper we discuss some results and computations on series that attain this bound. In particular, all such examples we have found are associated to imaginary quadratic fields, though we do not prove this is always the case.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a subset of the primes of lower density strictly larger than $\frac12$. Then, every sufficiently large even integer is a sum of four primes from the set $P$. We establish similar results for $k$-summands, with $k\geq 4$, and for $k \geq 4$ distinct subsets of primes. This extends the work of H.~Li, H.~Pan, as well as X.~Shao on sums of three primes, and A.~Alsteri and X.~Shao on sums of two primes. The primary new contributions come from elementary combinatorial lemmas.

Abstract:Motivated by a question of V. Bergelson and F. K. Richter (2017), we obtain asymptotic formulas for the number of relatively prime tuples composed of positive integers $n\le N$ and integer parts of polynomials evaluated at $n$. The error terms in our formulas are of various strengths depending on the Diophantine properties of the leading coefficients of these polynomials.

Abstract:Abstract Let K be a cyclic number field of odd degree over $${\mathbb {Q}}$$ Q with odd narrow class number, such that 2 is inert in $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q . We define a family of number fields $$\{K(p)\}_p$$ { K ( p ) } p , depending on K and indexed by the rational primes p that split completely in $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q , in which p is always ramified of degree 2. Conditional on a standard conjecture on short character sums, the density of such rational primes p that exhibit one of two possible ramified factorizations in $$K(p)/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K ( p ) / Q is strictly between 0 and 1 and is given explicitly as a formula in terms of the degree of the extension $$K/{\mathbb {Q}}$$ K / Q . Our results are unconditional in the cubic case. Our proof relies on a detailed study of the joint distribution of spins of prime ideals.
Dense sets of natural numbers with unusually large least common multiples

Abstract:For any constant $C_0>0$, we construct a set $A \subset {\mathbb N}$ such that one has $$ \sum_{n \in A: n \leq x} \frac{1}{n} = \exp\left(\left(\frac{C_0}{2}+o(1)\right) (\log\log x)^{1/2} \log\log\log x \right)$$ and $$ \sum_{n,m \in A: n, m \leq x} \frac{1}{\operatorname{lcm}(n,m)} \ll_{C_0} \left(\sum_{n \in A: n \leq x} \frac{1}{n}\right)^2$$ as $x \to \infty$, with the growth rate given here optimal up to the dependence on $C_0$. This answers in the negative a question of Erdős and Graham, and also clarifies the nature of certain ``mostly coprime'' sets studied by Bergelson and Richter.

Abstract:The conjectured squarefree density of an integral polynomial P in s variables is an Euler product SP which can be considered as a product of local densities. We show that a necessary and sufficient condition for SP to be 0 when P∈Z(X1,...,Xs) is a polynomial in s variables over the integers, is that either there is a prime p such that the values of P at all integer points are divisible by p2 or the polynomial is not squarefree as a polynomial. We also show that generally the upper squarefree density DP satisfies DP⩽SP .

Abstract:Let $\delta > 1/2$. We prove that if $A$ is a subset of the primes such that the relative density of $A$ in every reduced residue class is at least $\delta$, then almost all even integers can be written as the sum of two primes in $A$. The constant $1/2$ in the statement is best possible. Moreover we give an example to show that for any $\varepsilon > 0$ there exists a subset of the primes with relative density at least $1 - \varepsilon$ such that $A+A$ misses a positive proportion of even integers.

Abstract:Let $p_{r+1}-1>n \geq p_r-1$, based on a sequence $\{1,2,3\cdots\ M_r(M_r=p_1p_2\cdots p_r)\}$, we compare the density of coprime numbers and establish a correlation between the proportions of coprime numbers in the ranges from 1 to consecutive square numbers. Then, we derive the relationship between the number of coprimes in the interval of $n^2 \sim {(n+1)}^2$ and the proportion of coprimes in the interval of $1 \sim n^2$, proving that there is at least one prime number between any $n^2$ and ${(n+1)}^2$. By extending our research to the range of $1 \sim M_r^2$, we establish the relationship between the proportions of backwards coprime numbers in the ranges from ${M_r}^2$ to consecutive square numbers; furthermore, we establish a relationship between the proportions of coprimes in small interval and the whole interval. Then, in conclusion, the number of coprimes between $n^2$ and ${(n+1)}^2$ is greater than $n\prod_{i=1}^{r}{(1-\frac{1}{p_i}})$, thus proving that there are at least 2 prime numbers between $n^2$ and ${(n+1)}^2$.

Universality theorems for zeros of random real polynomials with fixed coefficients

Abstract:Consider a monic polynomial of degree $n$ whose subleading coefficients are independent, identically distributed, nondegenerate random variables having zero mean, unit variance, and finite moments of all orders, and let $m \geq 0$ be a fixed integer. We prove that such a random monic polynomial has exactly $m$ real zeros with probability $n^{-3/4+o(1)}$ as $n\to \infty$ through integers of the same parity as $m$. More generally, we determine conditions under which a similar asymptotic formula describes the corresponding probability for families of random real polynomials with multiple fixed coefficients. Our work extends well-known universality results of Dembo, Poonen, Shao, and Zeitouni, who considered the family of real polynomials with all coefficients random. As a number-theoretic consequence of these results, we deduce that an algebraic integer $\alpha$ of degree $n$ has exactly $m$ real Galois conjugates with probability $n^{-3/4+o(1)}$, when such $\alpha$ are ordered by the heights of their minimal polynomials.

A Quantitative Bound For Szemerédi's Theorem for a Complexity One Polynomial Progression over $\mathbb{Z}/N\mathbb{Z}$

Abstract:Let $N$ be a large prime and $P, Q \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ two linearly independent polynomials with $P(0) = Q(0) = 0$. We show that if a subset $A$ of $\mathbb{Z}/N\mathbb{Z}$ lacks a progression of the form $(x, x + P(y), x + Q(y), x + P(y) + Q(y))$, then $$|A| \le O\left(\frac{N}{\log_{(O(1))}(N)}\right)$$ where $\log_{C}(N)$ is an iterated logarithm of order $C$ (e.g., $\log_{2}(N) = \log\log(N)$). To establish this bound, we adapt Peluse's (2018) degree lowering argument to the quadratic Fourier analysis setting to obtain quantitative bounds on the true complexity of the above progression. Our method also shows that for a large class of polynomial progressions, if one can establish polynomial-type bounds on the true complexity of those progressions, then one can establish polynomial-type bounds on Szemerédi's theorem for that type of polynomial progression.

Uniform Recurrence in the Motzkin Numbers and Related Sequences mod $p$

Abstract:Many famous integer sequences including the Catalan numbers and the Motzkin numbers can be expressed in the form $ConstantTermOf\left[P(x)^nQ(x)\right]$ for Laurent polynomials $Q$, and symmetric Laurent trinomials $P$. In this paper we characterize the primes for which sequences of this form are uniformly recurrent modulo $p$. For all other primes, we show that $0$ has density $1$. This will be accomplished by showing that the study of these sequences mod $p$ can be reduced to the study of the generalized central trinomial coefficients, which are well-behaved mod $p$.

Abstract:We give a formula for the density of $0$ in the sequence of generalized Motzkin numbers, $M^{a,b}_n$, modulo a prime, $p$, in terms of the first $p$ generalized central trinomial coefficients $T^{a,b}_n\mod p$ (with $n<p$). We also prove that $T^{a,b}_{p-1-n}\equiv (b^2-4a^2)^{\frac{p-1}{2}-n}T^{a,b}_n\mod p$ in order to obtain a new lower bound of $\frac{2}{p(p-1)}$ for the density of $0$ in $M_n\mod p$, as well as a couple other applications including showing a novel symmetry of the first $p-2$ Motzkin numbers of independent interest: $M^{a,b}_{p-3-n}\equiv (b^2-4a^2)^{\frac{p-3}{2}-n}M^{a,b}_n\mod p$.

On $p$-adic denseness of quotients of values of integral forms

Abstract:For a set of integers $A$, the ratio set of $A$ is defined by $R(A):=\{a/b: a, b\in A, b\neq 0\}$. It is an open problem to study the denseness of $R(A)$ in the $p$-adic numbers when $A$ is the set of nonzero values attained by an integral form. In 2019, Donnay, Garcia and Rouse answered this problem for quadratic forms. Recently, we have studied this problem for the diagonal binary cubic forms $ax^3+by^3$, where $a$ and $b$ are integers. Later on, jointly with Miska, we extend the results on the diagonal binary cubic forms to the diagonal binary forms $ax^n+by^n$ for all $n\geq 3$. In this article, we study this problem for the binary form $ax^d+bxy^{d-1}+cy^d$ of degree $d\geq 2$. Also, we give a sufficient condition for the existence of infinitely many primes $p$ such that the ratio set of the values assumed by an integral form is dense in $\mathbb{Q}_p$. Furthermore, we study the denseness of ratio sets of values assumed by cubic and quartic forms in two variables. A result for quintic forms is also discussed in the article.
