Abstract:In this paper we investigate the integrable boundary state in ABJM theory. We find an integrability condition for the two-site integrable matrix product state (MPS) similar to the KT-relation. We also construct a class of non-trivial MPSs from the projected K-matrices.

Abstract:We investigate the integrability of the boundary state arising from the subdeterminant operators in the alternating SU(4) spin chain in ABJM theory. Our findings show that the resulting matrix product states are only integrable for two special giant gravitons, including the maximal giant graviton. Furthermore, we extend our analysis to more general boundary states.

Abstract:A bstract We develop an integrability-based framework to compute structure constants of two sub-determinant operators and a single-trace non-BPS operator in ABJM theory in the planar limit. In this first paper, we study them at weak coupling using a relation to an integrable spin chain. We first develop a nested Bethe ansatz for an alternating SU(4) spin chain that describes single-trace operators made out of scalar fields. We then apply it to the computation of the structure constants and show that they are given by overlaps between a Bethe eigenstate and a matrix product state. We conjecture that the determinant operator corresponds to an integrable matrix product state and present a closed-form expression for the overlap, which resembles the so-called Gaudin determinant. We also provide evidence for the integrability of general sub-determinant operators. The techniques developed in this paper can be applied to other quantities in ABJM theory including three-point functions of single-trace operators.

Abstract:Recently it was shown that continuous Matrix Product States (cMPS) cannot express the continuum limit state of any Matrix Product State (MPS), according to a certain natural definition of the latter. The missing element is a projector in the transfer matrix of the MPS. Here we provide a generalised ansatz of cMPS that is capable of expressing the continuum limit of any MPS. It consists of a sum of cMPS with different boundary conditions, each attached to an ancilla state. This new ansatz can be interpreted as the concatenation of a state which is at the closure of the set of cMPS together with a standard cMPS. The former can be seen as a cMPS in the thermodynamic limit, or with matrices of unbounded norm. We provide several examples and discuss the result.

Abstract:We prove the integrability of the two-loop open spin chain Hamiltonian from ABJM determinant like operators given in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1809.09941" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1809.09941">arXiv:1809.09941</a>. By explicitly constructing R-matrices and K-matrices, we successfully obtain the two-loop Hamiltonian from the double row transfer matrices. This proves the integrability of our two-loop Hamiltonian. Based on the vacuum eigenvalues of the transfer matrices, we make a conjecture on the eigenvalues of the transfer matrices for general excited states. Bethe ansatz equations are simply obtained from the analytic conditions at the superficial poles of the eigenvalues.

Three-point Functions in Aharony--Bergman--Jafferis--Maldacena Theory and Integrable Boundary States

Abstract:We investigate the correlators of three single-trace operators in Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) theory from the perspective of integrable boundary states. Specifically, we focus on scenarios where two operators being $1/3$-BPS and the entire correlation function is considered within the twisted-translated frame. The correlator can be expressed as the overlap between a boundary state and a Bethe state. It is found that the boundary state formed by the two $1/3$-BPS operators is integrable only when the number of Wick contractions between the non-BPS operator and one of the $1/3$-BPS operators is 0 or 1. We compute the overlaps for the integrable cases utilizing the symmetries preserved by the correlators.

Abstract:In Affine Toda field theory, links among three generating functions for integrals of motion derived from Part (I) are studied, and some classically integrable boundary conditions are obtained. An infinite number of integrals of motion are calculated in ZMS model with quasi-periodic condition. We find the classically integrable boundary conditions and K+/-, matrices of ZMS model with independent boundary conditions on each end. It is identified that an infinite number of integrals of motion does exist and one of them is the Hamiltonian, so this system is completely integrable.
Boundedness of Journé operators with matrix weights

Abstract:We develop a biparameter theory for matrix weights and provide various biparameter matrix-weighted bounds for Journé operators as well as other central operators under the assumption of the product matrix Muckenhoupt condition. In particular, we provide a complete theory for biparameter Journé operator bounds on matrix-weighted $L^2$ spaces. We also achieve bounds in the general case of matrix-weighted $L^p$ spaces, for $1 < p < \infty$ for paraproduct-free Journé operators. Finally, we expose an open problem involving a matrix-weighted Fefferman--Stein inequality, on which our methods rely in the general setting of matrix-weighted bounds for arbitrary Journé operators and $p \neq 2.$

A Note on Instanton Effects in ABJM Theory

Abstract:We consider the quantum spectral problem appearing the Fermi gas formulation of the ABJM (Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena) matrix model. This is known to related to the refined topological string on local ℙ1 × ℙ1 Calabi-Yau geometry. In the ABJM setting the problem is formulated by an integral equation, and is somewhat different from the one formulated directly in terms of the Calabi-Yau geometry and studied in our earlier paper. We use the similar method in our earlier paper to determine the non-perturbative contributions to the quantum phase volume in the ABJM case from the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition. As in our earlier paper, the non-perturbative contributions contain higher order smooth corrections beyond those required by singularity cancellations with the perturbative contributions proposed by Kallen and Marino. Our results imply possible new contributions to the grand potential of the ABJM matrix model.

Abstract:The contraction of tensor networks is a central task in the application of tensor network methods to the study of quantum and classical many body systems. In this paper, we investigate the impact of gauge degrees of freedom in the virtual indices of the tensor network on the contraction process, specifically focusing on boundary matrix product state methods for contracting two-dimensional tensor networks. We show that the gauge transformation can affect the entanglement structures of the eigenstates of the transfer matrix and change how the physical information is encoded in the eigenstates, which can influence the accuracy of the numerical simulation. We demonstrate this effect by looking at two different examples. First, we focus on the local gauge transformation, and analyze its effect by viewing it as an imaginary-time evolution governed by a diagonal Hamiltonian. As a specific example, we perform a numerical analysis in the classical Ising model on the square lattice. Second, we go beyond the scope of local gauge transformations and study the antiferromagnetic Ising model on the triangular lattice. The partition function of this model has two tensor network representations connected by a non-local gauge transformation, resulting in distinct numerical performances in the boundary MPS calculation.

Exact overlaps for "all" integrable matrix product states of rational spin chains

Abstract:The overlaps between integrable matrix product states (MPS) and Bethe states are important in both the non-equilibrium statistical physics and the AdS/CFT duality. We present the general MPS overlap formula. The result is a product of a ratio of Gaudin determinants and a prefactor. The Gaudin determinants depend on the spin chain but not on the MPS. The MPS dependent prefactor is given for all integrable MPS of the $\mathfrak{gl}_{N}$, $\mathfrak{o}_{N}$ and $\mathfrak{sp}_{N}$ symmetric spin chains with arbitrary representations.

Matrix-product unitaries: Beyond quantum cellular automata

Abstract:Matrix-product unitaries (MPU) are 1D tensor networks describing time evolution and unitary symmetries of quantum systems, while their action on states by construction preserves the entanglement area law. MPU which are formed by a single repeated tensor are known to coincide with 1D quantum cellular automata (QCA), i.e., unitaries with an exact light cone. However, this correspondence breaks down for MPU with open boundary conditions, even if the resulting operator is translation-invariant. Such unitaries can turn short- to long-range correlations and thus alter the underlying phase of matter. Here we make the first steps towards a theory of MPU with uniform bulk but arbitrary boundary. In particular, we study the structure of a subclass with a direct-sum form which maximally violates the QCA property. We also consider the general case of MPU formed by site-dependent (nonuniform) tensors and show a correspondence between MPU and locally maximally entanglable states.

Notes on Integrable Boundary Interactions of Open $SU(4)$ Alternating Spin Chains

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1704.05807" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.05807">arXiv:1704.05807</a>, it was shown that the planar flavored ABJM theory is integrable in the scalar sector at two-loop order using coordinate Bethe ansatz. A salient feature of this case is that the boundary reflection matrices are anti-diagonal with respect to the chosen basis. In this paper, we relax the coefficients of the boundary terms to be general constants in order to search for integrable systems among this class. We found that at each end of the spin chain, the only integrable boundary interaction, besides the one in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1704.05807" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.05807">arXiv:1704.05807</a>, is the one with vanishing boundary interactions leading to diagonal reflection matrices. We also construct non-supersymmetric plannar flavored ABJM theory which leads to trivial boundary interaction at both ends of the open chain from two-loop anomalous dimension matrix in the scalar sector.

By introducing an enhanced compatibility condition, we enable the extension of finite MPS to an infinite-volume state, providing new insights into complex, high-dimensional quantum systems. As an illustrative example, we apply this method to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state. This approach offers significant potential for advancing theoretical frameworks and practical methodologies in the field of quantum information.

Abstract:We study a substitute for the matrix product ansatz for Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process with open boundary in the ``singular case'' $\alpha\beta=q^N\gamma\delta$, when the standard form of the matrix product ansatz of Derrida, Evans, Hakim and Pasquier does not apply. In our approach, the matrix product ansatz is replaced with a pair of linear functionals on an abstract algebra. One of the functionals, $\varphi_1$, is defined on the entire algebra, and determines stationary probabilities for large systems on $L\geq N+1$ sites. The other functional, $\varphi_0$, is defined only on a finite-dimensional linear subspace of the algebra, and determines stationary probabilities for small systems on $L< N+1$ sites. Functional $\varphi_0$ vanishes on non-constant Askey-Wilson polynomials and in non-singular case becomes an orthogonality functional for the Askey-Wilson polynomials.

1/3 BPS loops and defect CFTs in ABJM theory

Abstract:We address a longstanding question of whether ABJM theory has Wilson loop operators preserving eight supercharges (so 1/3 BPS). We present such Wilson loops made of a large supermatrix combining two 1/2 BPS Wilson loops. We study the spectrum of operator insertions into them including the displacement operator and several others and study their correlation functions. Another natural construction arising in this context are Wilson loops with alternating superconnections. This amounts to including "defect changing operators" along the loop, similar to a discrete cusp. This insertion is topological and preserves two supercharges. We study the multiplet of this operator and how it can be used to introduce further operators. We also construct the defect conformal manifold arising from marginal defect operators.

A Generalised Haldane Map from the Matrix Product State Path Integral to the Critical Theory of the $J_1$-$J_2$ Chain

Abstract:We study the $J_1$-$J_2$ spin-$1/2$ chain using a path integral constructed over matrix product states (MPS). By virtue of its non-trivial entanglement structure, the MPS ansatz captures the key phases of the model even at a semi-classical, saddle-point level, and, as a variational state, is in good agreement with the field theory obtained by abelian bosonisation. Going beyond the semi-classical level, we show that the MPS ansatz facilitates a physically-motivated derivation of the field theory of the critical phase: by carefully taking the continuum limit -- a generalisation of the Haldane map -- we recover from the MPS path integral a field theory with the correct topological term and emergent $SO(4)$ symmetry, constructively linking the microscopic states and topological field-theoretic structures. Moreover, the dimerisation transition is particularly clear in the MPS formulation -- an explicit dimerisation potential becomes relevant, gapping out the magnetic fluctuations.

Higher Berry Connection for Matrix Product States

Abstract:In one spatial dimension, families of short-range entangled many-body quantum states, parameterized over some parameter space, can be topologically distinguished and classified by topological invariants built from the higher Berry phase -- a many-body generalization of the Berry phase. Previous works identified the underlying mathematical structure (the gerbe structure) and introduced a multi-wavefunction overlap, a generalization of the inner product in quantum mechanics, which allows for the extraction of the higher Berry phase and topological invariants. In this paper, building on these works, we introduce a connection, the higher Berry connection, for a family of parameterized Matrix Product States (MPS) over a parameter space. We demonstrate the use of our formula for simple non-trivial models.

Abstract:New integrable B 2 model with off-diagonal boundary reflections is proposed. The general solutions of the reflection matrix for the B 2 model are obtained by using the fusion technique. Wefind that the reflection matrix has 7 free boundary parameters, which are used to describe the degree of freedom of boundary couplings, without breaking the integrability of the system. The new quantization conditions will induce the novel structure of the energy spectrum and the boundary states. The corresponding boundary effects can be studied based on the results in this paper. Meanwhile, the reflection matrix of high rank models associated with Bnalgebra can also be obtained by using the method suggested in this paper.

Abstract:We argue that the recently discovered bilinear superintegrability <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.02045" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.02045">arXiv:2206.02045</a> generalizes, in a non-trivial way, to monomial matrix models in pure phase. The structure is much richer: for the trivial core Schur functions required modifications are minor, and the only new ingredient is a certain (contour-dependent) permutation matrix; for non-trivial-core Schur functions, in both bi-linear and tri-linear averages the deformation is more complicated: averages acquire extra N-dependent factors and selection rule is less straightforward to imply.
