Abstract:In 2005, Balmer defined the ringed space $\operatorname{Spec}_\otimes \mathcal{T}$ for a given tensor triangulated category, while in 2023, the second author introduced the ringed space $\operatorname{Spec}_\vartriangle \mathcal{T}$ for a given triangulated category. In the algebro-geometric context, these spectra provided several reconstruction theorems using derived categories. In this paper, we prove that $\operatorname{Spec}_{\otimes_X^\mathbb{L}} \operatorname{Perf} X$ is an open ringed subspace of $\operatorname{Spec}_\vartriangle \operatorname{Perf} X$ for a quasi-projective variety $X$. As an application, we provide a new proof of the Bondal-Orlov and Ballard reconstruction theorems in terms of these spectra. Recently, the first author introduced the Fourier-Mukai locus $\operatorname{Spec}^\mathsf{FM} \operatorname{Perf} X$ for a smooth projective variety $X$, which is constructed by gluing Fourier-Mukai partners of $X$ inside $\operatorname{Spec}_\vartriangle \operatorname{Perf} X$. As another application of our main theorem, we demonstrate that $\operatorname{Spec}^\mathsf{FM} \operatorname{Perf} X$ can be viewed as an open ringed subspace of $\operatorname{Spec}_\vartriangle \operatorname{Perf} X$. As a result, we show that all the Fourier-Mukai partners of an abelian variety $X$ can be reconstructed by topologically identifying the Fourier-Mukai locus within $\operatorname{Spec}_\vartriangle \operatorname{Perf} X$.

Abstract:In this article we study a relative monoidal version of the Bondal-Orlov reconstruction theorem. We establish an uniqueness result for tensor triangulated category structures $(\boxtimes,\mathbb{1})$ on the derived category $D^{b}(X)$ of a variety $X$ which is smooth projective and faithfully flat over a quasi-compact quasi-separated base scheme $S$ in the case where the fibers $X_{s}$ over any point $s\in S$ all have ample (anti-)canonical bundles. To do so we construct a stack $\Gamma$ of dg-bifunctors which parametrize the local homotopical behaviour of $\boxtimes$, and we study some of its properties around the derived categories of the fibers $X_{s}$.

Abstract:Let $X$, $Y$ be smooth projective varieties over $\mathbf{C}$. Let $K$ be a bounded complex of coherent sheaves on $X\times Y$ and let $\Phi_K \colon \mathsf{D}^b_{\mathsf{Coh}}(X) \to \mathsf{D}^b_{\mathsf{Coh}}(Y)$ be the resulting Fourier-Mukai functor. There is a well-known criterion due to Bondal-Orlov for $\Phi_K$ to be fully faithful. This criterion was recently extended to smooth Deligne-Mumford stacks with projective coarse moduli schemes by Lim-Polischuk. We extend this to all smooth, proper Deligne-Mumford stacks over arbitrary fields of characteristic $0$. Along the way, we establish a number of foundational results for bounded derived categories of proper and tame morphisms of noetherian algebraic stacks (e.g., coherent duality).

Abstract:As evidence for his conjecture in birational log geometry, Kawamata constructed a family of derived equivalences between toric orbifolds. In a previous paper, the authors showed that the derived category of a toric orbifold is naturally identified with a category of polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on ℝ n . In this paper we investigate and reprove some of Kawamata’s results from this perspective.

Abstract:The derived McKay correspondence conjecture says that there is an equivalence of triangulated categories between the bounded derived categories of commutative and non-commutative crepant resolutions of a Gorenstein singularity. We will prove that this derived equivalence extends between the semi-universal non-commutative deformations of the commutative and the non-commutative crepant resolutions of a toric surface singularity.

Moduli spaces of semiorthogonal decompositions in families

Abstract:For a smooth projective family of schemes we prove that a semiorthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of a fibre uniquely deforms over an étale neighbourhood of the point. We do this using a comparison theorem between semiorthogonal decompositions and decomposition triangles of the structure sheaf of the diagonal. We then apply to the latter a deformation theory for morphisms with a fixed lift of the target, which is developed in the appendix. Using this as a key ingredient we introduce a moduli space which classifies semiorthogonal decompositions of the category of perfect complexes of a smooth projective family. Using Artin's criterion, we show that this is an étale algebraic space over the base scheme of the family, which can be non-quasicompact and non-separated. We generalise this to families of geometric noncommutative schemes in the sense of Orlov. We also define a subfunctor classifying nontrivial semiorthogonal decompositions only, and conjecture it is an open and closed subspace.

Abstract:Given a resolution of rational singularities $\pi\colon \tilde{X} \to X$ over a field of characteristic zero we use a Hodge-theoretic argument to prove that the image of the functor $\mathbf{R}\pi_*\colon \mathbf{D}(\tilde{X}) \to \mathbf{D}(X)$ between bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves generates $\mathbf{D}(X)$ as a triangulated category. This gives a weak version of the Bondal-Orlov localization conjecture, answering a question of Pavic and Shinder. The same result is established more generally for proper (non-necessarily birational) morphisms $\pi\colon \tilde{X} \to X$, with $\tilde{X}$ smooth, satisfying $\mathbf{R}\pi_*(\mathcal{O}_{\tilde{X}}) = \mathcal{O}_X$.

A virtual $\mathrm{PGL}_r$-$\mathrm{SL}_r$ correspondence for projective surfaces

Abstract:For a smooth projective surface $X$ satisfying $H_1(X,\mathbb{Z}) = 0$ and $w \in H^2(X,\mu_r)$, we study deformation invariants of the pair $(X,w)$. Choosing a Brauer-Severi variety $Y$ (or, equivalently, Azumaya algebra $\mathcal{A}$) over $X$ with Stiefel-Whitney class $w$, the invariants are defined as virtual intersection numbers on suitable moduli spaces of stable twisted sheaves on $Y$ constructed by Yoshioka (or, equivalently, moduli spaces of $\mathcal{A}$-modules of Hoffmann-Stuhler). We show that the invariants do not depend on the choice of $Y$. Using a result of de Jong, we observe that they are deformation invariants of the pair $(X,w)$. For surfaces with $h^{2,0}(X) > 0$, we show that the invariants can often be expressed as virtual intersection numbers on Gieseker-Maruyama-Simpson moduli spaces of stable sheaves on $X$. This can be seen as a $\mathrm{PGL}_r$-$\mathrm{SL}_r$ correspondence. As an application, we express $\mathrm{SU}(r) / \mu_r$ Vafa-Witten invariants of $X$ in terms of $\mathrm{SU}(r)$ Vafa-Witten invariants of $X$. We also show how formulae from Donaldson theory can be used to obtain upper bounds for the minimal second Chern class of Azumaya algebras on $X$ with given division algebra at the generic point.

Producing "new" semi-orthogonal decompositions in arithmetic geometry

Abstract:This paper is devoted to constructing "new" admissible subcategories and semi-orthogonal decompositions of triangulated categories out of "old" ones. For two triangulated subcategories $T$ and $T'$ of a certain $D$ and a decomposition $(L,R)$ of $T$ we look either for a decomposition $(L',R')$ of $T'$ such that there are no non-zero $D$-morphisms from $L$ into $L'$ and from $R$ into $R'$, or for a decomposition $(L_D,R_D)$ of $D$ such that $L_D\cap T=L$ and $R_D\cap T=R$. We prove some general existence statements (that also extend to semi-orthogonal decompositions with any number of components) and apply them to various derived categories of coherent sheaves over a scheme $X$ that is proper over a noetherian ring $R$. This gives a one-to-one correspondence between semi-orthogonal decompositions of $D_{perf}(X)$ and $D^b_{coh}(X)$; the latter extend to $D^-_{coh}(X)$, $D^+_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$, $D_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$, and $D({Qcoh}(X))$ under very mild conditions. In particular, we obtain a vast generalization of a theorem of J. Karmazyn, A. Kuznetsov, and E. Shinder. These applications rely on recent results of Neeman that express $D^b_{coh}(X)$ and $D^-_{coh}(X)$ in terms of $D_{perf}(X)$ along with its new variations corresponding to $D^+_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$ and $D_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$. We also discuss an application of this theorem to the construction of certain adjoint functors.

Abstract:The Frobenius-Perron theory of an endofunctor of a k \Bbbk -linear category (recently introduced in Chen et al. [Algebra Number Theory 13 (2019), pp. 2005–2055]) provides new invariants for abelian and triangulated categories. Here we study Frobenius-Perron type invariants for derived categories of commutative and noncommutative projective schemes. In particular, we calculate the Frobenius-Perron dimension for domestic and tubular weighted projective lines, define Frobenius-Perron generalizations of Calabi-Yau and Kodaira dimensions, and provide examples. We apply this theory to the derived categories associated to certain Artin-Schelter regular and finite-dimensional algebras.

On the deformation theory of Fourier-Mukai transforms between Calabi-Yau varieties

Abstract:We study the deformation theory of fully faithful Fourier-Mukai transforms in both characteristic zero and mixed characteristic. Our main result shows that obstructions to deforming such transforms can be completely controlled by Hodge theory when the source variety has trivial canonical bundle, generalizing work of Addington-Thomas and Lieblich-Olsson. The main technical contribution is a formula for the obstruction class measuring the failure of a Chern character to remain within the Hodge filtration as a cup product with a (derived) Kodaira-Spencer class.

Abstract:A conjecture, recently stated by Flach and Morin, relates the action of the monodromy on the Galois invariant part of the p-adic Beilinson-Hyodo-Kato cohomology of the generic fiber of a scheme defined over a DVR of mixed characteristic to (the cohomology of) its special fiber. We prove the conjecture in the case the special fiber, of the given arithmetic scheme, is also a fiber of a geometric family over a curve in positive characteristic.

Abstract:Artin, Tate and Van den Bergh initiated the field of noncommutative projective algebraic geometry by fruitfully studying geometric data associated to noncommutative graded algebras. More specifically, given a field $\mathbb K$ and a graded $\mathbb K$-algebra $A$, they defined an inverse system of projective schemes $\Upsilon_A = \{{\Upsilon_d(A)}\}$. This system affords an algebra, $\mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$, built out of global sections, and a $\mathbb K$-algebra morphism $\tau: A \to \mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$. We study and extend this construction. We define, for any natural number $n$, a category ${\tt PSys}^n$ of projective systems of schemes and a contravariant functor $\mathbf B$ from ${\tt PSys}^n$ to the category of associative $\mathbb K$-algebras. We realize the schemes ${\Upsilon_d(A)}$ as ${\rm Proj \ } {\mathbf U}_d(A)$, where ${\mathbf U}_d$ is a functor from associative algebras to commutative algebras. We characterize when the morphism $\tau: A \to \mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$ is injective or surjective in terms of local cohomology modules of the ${\mathbf U}_d(A)$. Motivated by work of Walton, when $\Upsilon_A$ consists of well-behaved schemes, we prove a geometric result that computes the Hilbert series of $\mathbf B(\Upsilon_A)$. We provide many detailed examples that illustrate our results. For example, we prove that for some non-AS-regular algebras constructed as twisted tensor products of polynomial rings, $\tau$ is surjective or an isomorphism.

Reconstruction of module categories in the infinite and non-rigid settings

Abstract:By building on the notions of internal projective and injective objects in a module category introduced by Douglas, Schommer-Pries, and Snyder, we extend the reconstruction theory for module categories of Etingof and Ostrik. More explicitly, instead of algebra objects in finite tensor categories, we consider quasi-finite coalgebra objects in locally finite tensor categories. Moreover, we show that module categories over non-rigid monoidal categories can be reconstructed via lax module monads, which generalize algebra objects. For the category of finite-dimensional comodules over a (non-Hopf) bialgebra, we give this result a more concrete form, realizing module categories as categories of contramodules over Hopf trimodule algebras -- this specializes to our tensor-categorical results in the Hopf case. Using lax module functors we give a categorical proof of the variant of the fundamental theorem of Hopf modules which applies to Hopf trimodules. We also give a characterization of fusion operators for a Hopf monad as coherence cells for a module functor structure, using which we similarly reinterpret and reprove the Hopf-monadic fundamental theorem of Hopf modules due to Bruguières, Lack, and Virelizier.

Abstract:Let $X$ and $Y$ be two smooth projective varieties such that there is a fully faithful exact functor from $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))$ to $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(Y))$. We show that $X$ and $Y$ are birational equivalent if the functor maps one skyscraper sheaf to a skyscraper sheaf. Further assuming that $X$ and $Y$ are of the same dimension, we show that if $X$ has ample canonical bundle and $H^0(X ,K_X)\neq 0$, or if $X$ is a K3 surface with Picard number one, then $Y$ is birational to a Fourier--Mukai partner of $X$.

Deformations and Simulatenous Resolutions of Determinantal Surfaces

Abstract:This paper uses reconstruction algebras to construct simultaneous resolution of determinantal surfaces. The main new difference to the classical case is that, in addition to the quiver of the reconstruction algebra, certain noncommutative relations, namely those of the canonical algebra of Ringel, are required. All the relations of the reconstruction algebra except the canonical relation are then deformed, and these deformed relations together with variation of the GIT quotient achieve the simultaneous resolution.
