Abstract:Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and let $A$ and $B$ be two simple algebras with involution over $K$. In this note we study the embedding problem for algebras with involution. More specifically, if the algebra $A$ satisfies the polynomial identities with involution of the algebra $B$, we investigate whether there exists an embedding of $A$ into $B$ that preserves the involutions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the embedding problem in algebras with involutions. Specifically, given two simple algebras \(A\) and \(B\) with involutions, if \(A\) satisfies all polynomial identities with involutions of \(B\), then does there exist an involution - preserving embedding \(A\hookrightarrow B\). ### Detailed Explanation 1. **Background and Motivation** - The paper first reviews the concepts of polynomial identities (PI) and polynomial identities with involutions. - It mentions some classical examples, such as the complex algebra \(\mathbb{C}\) and the real algebra \(\mathbb{R}\), as well as the matrix algebras \(M_2(\mathbb{R})\) and the quaternion algebra \(\mathbb{H}_{\mathbb{R}}\). Although they satisfy the same polynomial identities, they are not isomorphic. - It introduces the Amitsur - Levitzki theorem, which states that the matrix algebra \(M_n(K)\) satisfies the standard identity \(S_{2n}=0\). 2. **Definition of the Embedding Problem** - The embedding problem refers to: given two algebras \(A\) and \(B\), if \(A\) satisfies all polynomial identities of \(B\) (including the case with involutions), then can we find an embedding from \(A\) to \(B\) such that this embedding keeps the involution unchanged? - The paper focuses particularly on the embedding problem between simple algebras with involutions over an algebraically closed field \(K\). 3. **Existing Results** - For finite - dimensional associative algebras, Lie algebras, Jordan algebras, etc., there have been some positive results. - Procesi and Berele respectively solved the embedding problems of algebras with trace functions and algebras with involutions. 4. **Main Contributions** - The paper studies the embedding problem of simple algebras with involutions over an algebraically closed field with characteristic not equal to 2. - It describes several cases where the embedding problem has a positive answer and gives specific embedding construction methods. - For example, for \((M_n(K),t)\) and \((M_m(K),t)\), if \(\text{Id}(M_n(K),t)\subseteq\text{Id}(M_m(K),t)\), then there exists an involution - preserving embedding \((M_m(K),t)\hookrightarrow(M_n(K),t)\). 5. **Conclusion** - If \(A\) and \(B\) are finite - dimensional central simple algebras over an algebraically closed field with characteristic not equal to 2, and \(A\) satisfies the identities with involutions of \(B\), then there exists an involution - preserving embedding \(A\hookrightarrow B\). ### Formula Display - **Standard Polynomial** \[ S_t^n(x_1,\ldots,x_n)=\sum_{\omega\in S_n}(\text{sign}\,\omega)x_{\omega(1)}\cdots x_{\omega(n)} \] where \(S_n\) is the symmetric group of order \(n\), and \(\text{sign}\,\omega\) is the sign of the permutation \(\omega\). - **Amitsur - Levitzki Theorem** \[ M_n(K)\text{ satisfies the standard identity }S_{2n} = 0 \] - **Involution Definition** Let \(A\) be an algebra, and an involution \(*:A\rightarrow A\) is a quadratic anti - automorphism, that is: \[ (ab)^*=b^*a^*
