Abstract:We consider the approach of Ou and Wang to cone restriction via polynomial partitioning. By restructuring their induction arguments into a recursive algorithm and applying the nested polynomial Wolff axioms, we refine the $L^p \rightarrow L^q$ bounds on cone restriction estimate for $q < p$ in higher dimensions.

Abstract:We propose to study the restriction conjecture using decoupling theorems and two-ends Furstenberg inequalities. Specifically, we pose a two-ends Furstenberg conjecture, which implies the restriction conjecture. As evidence, we prove this conjecture in the plane by using the Furstenberg set estimate. Moreover, we use this planar result to prove a restriction estimate for $p>22/7$ in three dimensions, which implies Wolff's $5/2$-hairbrush bound for Kakeya sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our approach also makes improvements for the restriction conjecture in higher dimensions.

Abstract:It has been 40 years since Lawson and Osserman introduced the three minimal cones associated with Dirichlet problems in their 1977 Acta paper [LO77]. The first cone was shown area-minimizing by Harvey and Lawson in the celebrated paper [HL82]. In this paper, we confirm that the other two are also area-minimizing. In fact, we show that every Lawson-Osserman cone of type (n, p, 2) constructed in [XYZ] is area-minimizing.

Abstract:We study the restriction estimates in a class of conical singular space with the metric , where the cross section Y is a compact -dimensional closed Riemannian manifold ( Y , h ). Let be the Friedrichs extension positive Laplacian on X , and consider the operator with , where is a real function such that the operator is positive. In the present paper, we prove a type of modified restriction estimates for the solutions of wave equation associated with . The smallest positive eigenvalue of the operator plays an important role in the result. As an application, for independent of interests, we prove local energy estimates and Keel–Smith–Sogge estimates for the wave equation in this setting.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the polyhedral cone constrained homogeneous quadratic programming problem and provide an equivalent linear conic reformulation. Based on a union of second-order cones which covers the polyhedral cone, a sequence of computable linear conic programming problems are constructed to approximate the linear conic reformulation. The convergence of the sequential solutions is guaranteed as the number of second-order cones increases such that the union of the second-order cones gets close to the polyhedral cone. In order to relieve the computational burden and improve the efficiency, an adaptive scheme and valid inequalities derived by the reformulation-linearization technique are added to the proposed algorithm. Finally, the numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Abstract:We consider the restrictions of Shi arrangements to Weyl cones, their relations to antichains in the root poset, and their intersection posets. For any Weyl cone, we provide bijections between regions, flats intersecting the cone, and antichains of a naturally defined subposet of the root poset. This gives a refinement of the parking function numbers via the Poincaré polynomials of the intersection posets of all Weyl cones. Finally, we interpret these Poincaré polynomials as the Hilbert series of three isomorphic graded rings. One of these rings arises from the Varchenko–Gel'fand ring, another is the coordinate ring of the vertices of the order polytope of a subposet of the root poset, and the third is purely combinatorial.

Abstract:Fourier restriction conjecture is an important problem in harmonic analysis. Guo-Oh [17] studied the restriction estimates for quadratic surfaces of co-dimension 2 in $\mathbb{R}^5$. For one special surface $(\xi_1,\xi_2,\xi_3,\xi_1^2,\xi_2^2+\xi_1\xi_3)$, they applied a nested induction argument to build essentially sharp restriction estimate. In this paper, we simplify their method, and extend it to a variant of the broad-narrow analysis. As applications, we will prove essentially sharp restriction estimates for some kinds of degenerate higher co-dimensional quadratic surfaces.

Extended formulations for the integer hull of strictly $Δ$-modular cographic polyhedral cones

Abstract:Conforti et al. give a compact extended formulation for a class of bimodular-constrained integer programs, namely those that model the stable set polytope of a graph with no disjoint odd cycles. We extend their techniques to design compact extended formulations for the integer hull of translated polyhedral cones whose constraint matrix is strictly $\Delta$-modular and has rows that represent a cographic matroid. Our work generalizes the important special case from Conforti et al. concerning $4$-connected graphs with odd cycle transversal number at least $4$. We also discuss the necessity of our assumptions.

A Combinatorial Decomposition of Knapsack Cones

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on knapsack cones, a specific type of simplicial cones that arise naturally in the context of the knapsack problem $x_1 a_1 + \cdots + x_n a_n = a_0$. We present a novel combinatorial decomposition for these cones, named \texttt{DecDenu}, which aligns with Barvinok's unimodular cone decomposition within the broader framework of Algebraic Combinatorics. Computer experiments support us to conjecture that our \texttt{DecDenu} algorithm is polynomial when the number of variables $n$ is fixed. If true, \texttt{DecDenu} will provide the first alternative polynomial algorithm for Barvinok's unimodular cone decomposition, at least for denumerant cones. The \texttt{CTEuclid} algorithm is designed for MacMahon's partition analysis, and is notable for being the first algorithm to solve the counting problem for Magic squares of order 6. We have enhanced the \texttt{CTEuclid} algorithm by incorporating \texttt{DecDenu}, resulting in the \texttt{LLLCTEuclid} algorithm. This enhanced algorithm makes significant use of LLL's algorithm and stands out as an effective elimination-based approach.

Asymptotic theory of $C$-pseudo-cones

Abstract:In this paper, we present an asymptotic view for any $C$-pseudo-cone, which allows us to decompose a $C$-pseudo-cone $E$ into the sum of a $C$-asymptotic set $\mathbb{A}$ and $C$-starting point $z\in C$ of $E$. Combining this with the novel work by Schneider, we introduce the asymptotic weighted co-volume functional $T_\Theta(E)$ of the $C$-pseudo-cone $E$, which is also a generalized function with the singular point $o$ (the origin). Using our convolution formula for $T_\Theta(E)$, we establish a decay estimate for $T_\Theta(E)$ at infinity and present some interesting results. As applications of this asymptotic theory, we prove a weighted Brunn-Minkowski type inequality and study the solutions to the weighted Minkowski problem for pseudo-cones. Moreover, we pose an open problem regarding $T_\Theta(E)$, which we call the asymptotic Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $C$-pseudo-cones.

Abstract:We study asymptotic behaviors of solutions to the LoewnerNirenberg problem in finite cones and establish optimal asymptotic expansions in terms of the corresponding solutions in infinite cones. The spherical domains over which cones are formed are allowed to have singularities. An elliptic operator on such spherical domains with coefficients singular on the boundary plays an important role. Due to the singularity of the spherical domains, extra care is needed for the study of the global regularity of the eigenfunctions and solutions of the associated singular Dirichlet problem. Restriction estimates for quadratic manifolds of arbitrary codimensions

Abstract:The restriction conjecture is one of the famous problems in harmonic analysis. There have been many methods developed in the study of the conjecture for the paraboloid. In this paper, we generalize the multilinear method of Bourgain and Guth for the paraboloid, and obtain restriction estimates for all quadratic manifolds of arbitrary codimensions. In particular, our theorem recovers the main theorem of Bourgain and Guth for the paraboloid. A new ingredient is a covering lemma for varieties whose proof relies on Tarski's projection theorem in real algebraic geometry. We also provide algorithms to compute several algebraic quantities that naturally appear in the argument. These algorithms rely on a cylindrical decomposition in real algebraic geometry.

Abstract:This is a very brief report on recent developments on the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surface system and minimal cones in Euclidean spaces. We shall mainly focus on two directions: (1) Further systematic developments after Lawson-Osserman's paper \cite{l-o} on the Dirichlet problem for minimal graphs of high codimensions. Aspects including non-existence, non-uniqueness and irregularity properties of solutions have been explored from different points of view. (2) Complexities and varieties of area-minimizing cones in high codimensions. We shall mention interesting history and exhibit some recent results which successfully furnished new families of minimizing cones of different types.

Abstract:We propose a practical method to construct sparse integer-constrained cone singularities with low distortion constraints for conformal parameterizations. Our solution for this combinatorial problem is a two-stage procedure that first enhances sparsity for generating an initialization and then optimizes to reduce the number of cones and the parameterization distortion. Central to the first stage is a progressive process to determine the combinatorial variables, i.e., numbers, locations, and angles of cones. The second stage iteratively conducts adaptive cone relocations and merges close cones for optimization. We extensively test our method on a data set containing 3885 models, demonstrating practical robustness and performance. Our method achieves fewer cone singularities and lower parameterization distortion than state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:We prove tight Hölderian error bounds for all p-cones. Surprisingly, the exponents differ in several ways from those that have been previously conjectured. Moreover, they illuminate p-cones as a curious example of a class of objects that possess properties in three dimensions that they do not in four or more. Using our error bounds, we analyse least squares problems with p-norm regularization, where our results enable us to compute the corresponding Kurdyka–Łojasiewicz exponents for previously inaccessible values of p. Another application is a (relatively) simple proof that most p-cones are neither self-dual nor homogeneous. Our error bounds are obtained under the framework of facial residual functions, and we expand it by establishing for general cones an optimality criterion under which the resulting error bound must be tight. Cones of orthogonal Shimura subvarieties and equidistribution

Abstract:Let X be an orthogonal Shimura variety, and let C_r(X) be the cone generated by the cohomology classes of orthogonal Shimura subvarieties in X of dimension r. We investigate the asymptotic properties of the generating rays of C_r(X) for large values of r. They accumulate towards rays generated by wedge products of the Kähler class of X and the fundamental class of an orthogonal Shimura subvariety. We also compare C_r(X) with the cone generated by the special cycles of dimension r. The main ingredient to achieve the results above is the equidistribution of orthogonal Shimura subvarieties.

A Bicomposition of Conical Projections

Abstract:We consider a decomposition approach to the problem of finding the orthogonal projection of a given point onto a convex polyhedral cone represented by a finite set of its generators. The reducibility of an arbitrary linear optimization problem to such projection problem potentially makes this approach one of the possible new ways to solve large-scale linear programming problems. Such an approach can be based on the idea of a recurrent dichotomy that splits the original large-scale problem into a binary tree of conical projections corresponding to a successive decomposition of the initial cone into the sum of lesser subcones. The key operation of this approach consists in solving the problem of projecting a certain point onto a cone represented as the sum of two subcones with the smallest possible modification of these subcones and their arbitrary selection. Three iterative algorithms implementing this basic operation are proposed, their convergence is proved, and numerical experiments demonstrating both the computational efficiency of the algorithms and certain challenges in their application are performed.

Projecting onto a Capped Rotated Second-Order Cone

Abstract:This paper establishes a closed-form expression for projecting onto a capped rotated second-order cone. This convex set arises in the perspective relaxation of mixed-integer nonlinear programs (MINLP) with binary indicator variables. The rapid computation of the projection onto this set is expected to enable the development of effective methods for solving the continuous relaxation of MINLPs whose feasible region may involve a Cartesian product of a large number of such sets. The closed-form established herein consists of seven cases, one of which is a solution of a cubic equation and another is a solution of a quartic equation. Although quartic equations possess closed-form solutions, numerical solutions are typically used in practice. Based on bounds that we prove using additional case analysis, we develop a specialized bisection-based method to solve the resulting quartic equation. In experiments we first demonstrate that the projection problem is solved faster and more accurately with our closed-form, together with a standard polynomial equation solver, compared with a general state-of-the-art interior-point solver and compared with a state-of-the art conic first-order method solver. We also demonstrate the efficacy of our bisection-based specialized numerical method for solving the quartic equation.

Given a rational pointed [math]-dimensional cone [math], we study the integer Carathéodory rank [math] and its asymptotic form [math], where we consider "most" integer vectors in the cone. The main result significantly improves the previously known upper bound for [math]. We also study bounds on [math] in terms of [math], the maximal absolute [math] minor of the matrix given in an integral polyhedral representation of [math]. If [math], we show that [math], and prove upper bounds for simplicial cones, improving the best known upper bound on [math] for [math].

Abstract:If $f$ is a function supported on the truncated paraboloid in $\mathbb{R}^3$ and $E$ is the corresponding extension operator, then we prove that for all $p> 3+ 3/13$, $\|Ef\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^3)}\leq C \|f\|_{L^{\infty}}$. The proof combines Wolff's two ends argument with polynomial partitioning techniques. We also observe some geometric structures in wave packets.
