Abstract:In this paper, we construct a class of ASH algebras of real rank zero and stable rank one which is not K-pure. Then we show the following: (i) There exists a real rank zero inductive limit of 1-dimensional noncommutative CW complexes which is not an A$\mathcal{HD}$ algebra, when $K_1$ is torsion free or has bounded torsion. (ii) Total K-theory is not a complete invariant for ASH algebras of real rank zero. (iii) There are obstructions both in the total K-theory of ideals and quotients in the classification of $C^*$-algebras of real rank zero and stable rank one.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on several key difficulties in the classification theory of C\(^*\)-algebras, especially the classification problem of approximately sub - homogeneous C\(^*\)-algebras (ASH algebras) with real rank zero. Specifically, the authors construct a class of ASH algebras with real rank zero and stable rank one, which are not K - pure, and show the following points: 1. **There exists an inductive limit 1 - dimensional non - commutative CW complex with real rank zero**, but it is not an AHD algebra when \(K_1\) is torsion - free or has bounded torsion. 2. **The total K - theory is not a complete invariant for ASH algebras with real rank zero**. This means that even if two C\(^*\)-algebras are the same under the total K - theory, they may not be isomorphic. 3. **There are obstacles in the total K - theory of ideals and quotients in the classification of C\(^*\)-algebras with real rank zero and stable rank one**. These obstacles indicate that relying solely on the total K - theory of ideals is not sufficient to completely distinguish these algebras, and the total K - theory of quotients also needs to be considered. Through these results, the authors provide a counterexample to prove that some inductive limit 1 - dimensional non - commutative CW complexes with real rank zero are not AD algebras, thus challenging the existing classification theory. In addition, they also show that when classifying these algebras, the total K - theory of ideals and quotients needs to be considered simultaneously to ensure the completeness of the classification. ### Analysis of specific problems 1. **Constructing non - K - pure ASH algebras with real rank zero**: - The authors construct a class of 1 - dimensional non - commutative CW complexes. These complexes have "singular" properties (Definition 3.1) and can be used to generate non - K - pure inductive limits. - The lack of K - purity in these algebras leads to the incompleteness of the total K - theory. 2. **Limitations of the total K - theory**: - The authors show two C\(^*\)-algebras \(E_1\) and \(E_2\) with real rank zero. They are the same under the total K - theory, but their Cuntz semigroups are different, so they are not isomorphic to each other. - This shows that the total K - theory is insufficient to fully describe the structure of these algebras in some cases. 3. **Importance of the total K - theory of ideals and quotients**: - The authors further point out that when classifying C\(^*\)-algebras with real rank zero and stable rank one, the total K - theory of ideals and quotients needs to be considered. - They give a theorem (Theorem 5.2) stating that under certain conditions, if the total K - theory of ideals and the total K - theory of quotients both match, then the two algebras are isomorphic. Through these studies, the authors not only expand the existing classification theory of C\(^*\)-algebras, but also provide new directions and methods for future research.
