Abstract:Bilayer graphene twisted at the angle of about 1.1° better known as magic angle, exhibits ultra-flat moiré superlattice bands that are a source of highly-tunable, exotic quantum phenomena. Such phenomena, like superconductivity, correlated Mott-like insulating states and orbital ferromagnetism are driven by strong-correlation physics that defies classical theories. The inadequacy of such classical models and the lack of theoretical understanding of the recently observed exotic phenomena calls for revisiting the theory behind the material system and associating it with the observed behaviour. This article reviews the physics behind twisted bilayer graphene, focusing primarily on moiré physics and the importance of electronic (flat) band structure. In addition, this paper provides a brief overview of the emerging phenomena of correlated insulating states, superconductivity and orbital ferromagnetism. Finally, the most recent developments in controlling the interaction-driven states and tuning the electronic interactions are presented.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problems that this paper attempts to solve mainly focus on understanding the physical mechanisms behind the strange quantum phenomena that occur in Twisted Bilayer Graphene (TBG). Specifically, these phenomena include: 1. **Superconductivity**: The paper explores how the TBG system exhibits superconductivity at specific filling factors. This superconductivity is different from that predicted by the traditional BCS theory and may be caused by strong electron correlations. 2. **Correlated Insulating States**: It studies how the TBG system changes from a metallic state to an insulating state when the electron filling reaches certain specific values. This transition cannot be explained by the traditional band theory but is a Mott insulator behavior caused by the strong interaction between electrons. 3. **Orbital Ferromagnetism**: The paper also presents the orbital ferromagnetism observed in the TBG system when the filling is close to three - quarters. This is a phenomenon that has not been directly observed in experiments before, indicating that the alignment of electron orbital motion can lead to magnetism. The core of these problems is that traditional physical models such as the Hubbard model cannot fully explain these strange phenomena observed in Twisted Bilayer Graphene. Therefore, the paper aims to re - examine the theoretical basis of these material systems and explore the origin of these strange quantum phenomena and their potential application prospects by reviewing and analyzing existing theoretical and experimental results.
