Abstract:The scaling relations in the two-zero textures of the neutrino mass matrices in the minimal extended seesaw mechanism were discovered by Kumar and Patgiri. We demonstrate that some of these scaling relations can be satisfied without requiring two zero elements in the texture.

Abstract:We study the implications of the simultaneous existence of a texture zero and a vanishing minor in the neutrino mass matrix. There are thirty six possible texture structures of this type, twenty one of which reduce to two texture zero cases which have, already, been extensively studied. Of the remaining fifteen textures only six are allowed by the current data. We examine the phenomenological implications of the allowed texture structures for Majorana type CP-violating phases, 1-3 mixing angle and Dirac type CP-violating phase. All these possible textures can be generated through the seesaw mechanism and realized in the framework of discrete abelian flavor symmetry. We present the symmetry realization of these texture structures.

Abstract:The minimum seesaw model with two right-handed neutrinos is considered, where the lightest neutrino is naturally massless. Instead of adopting texture zeros in the lepton Yukawa matrices, which cause both theoretical and experimental troubles, here we propose two-$\boldsymbol\epsilon$ textures, where $\boldsymbol\epsilon$ is a small number. Combined with neutrino oscillation experimental data, we find that a large CP angle is preferred for the normal neutrino mass order. In contrast, the CP angle almost vanishes for the inverted order. This can be well-tested in near-future experiments, such as Hyper-Kamiokande. Besides, the predicted effective Majorana neutrino mass $m_{ee}$ and the total neutrino mass $\sum m^\nu_i$ are also within reach of ongoing or future experiments.

Abstract:In an attempt at explaining the observed neutrino mass-squared differences and leptonic mixing, lepton mass matrices with zero textures have been widely studied. In the weak basis where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal, various neutrino mass matrices with two zeros have been shown to be consistent with the current experimental data. Using the canonical and Smith normal form methods, we construct the minimal Abelian symmetry realizations of these phenomenological two-zero neutrino textures. The implementation of these symmetries in the context of the seesaw mechanism for Majorana neutrino masses is also discussed.

Abstract:We review the two-zero mass matrix textures approach for Dirac neutrinos with the most recent global fit in the oscillation parameters. We found that three of the 15 possible textures are compatible with current experimental data, while the remaining two-zero textures are ruled out. Two textures are consistent with the neutrino masses' normal hierarchy and are CP-conserving. At the same time, the other one is compatible with both mass orderings and allows for CP violation. We also present the correlations between the oscillation parameters for the allowed two-zero textures.

Abstract:We investigate the see-saw mechanism for generally non-fine-tuned $n \times n$ mass matrices involving both Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. We specifically show that the number of naturally light neutrinos cannot exceed half of the dimension of the considered mass matrix. Furthermore, we determine a criterion for mass matrix textures leading to light Dirac neutrinos with the see-saw mechanism. Especially, we study $4 \times 4$ and $6 \times 6$ mass matrix textures and give some examples in order to highlight these types of textures. Next, we present a model scheme based on non-Abelian and discrete symmetries fulfilling the above mentioned criterion for light Dirac neutrinos. Finally, we investigate the connection between symmetries and the invariants of a mass matrix on a formal level.

Abstract:A convincing explanation of the smallness of neutrino masses is represented by the Type-I Seesaw mechanism, where the two measured neutrino mass differences can be generated by introducing at least two right-handed neutrinos. In an ultraviolet complete model, it is possible to dynamically generate the heavy Majorana scale through the spontaneous symmetry breaking of a global Abelian symmetry and the most economical realisation consists in coupling the two exotic neutral leptons to a singlet complex scalar field. The associated Goldstone boson is often dubbed as Majoron, which may achieve a non-vanishing mass by means of a small term that explicitly breaks the Abelian symmetry. In a generic model, the neutrino and Majoron mass generation mechanisms are completely uncorrelated. In this paper, instead, we reduce the landscape of possible models proposing a unique, minimal and predictive framework in which these two types of masses are strictly tied and arise from the same source. Bounds from various terrestrial and astrophysical experiments are discussed.

Abstract:New heavy neutral leptons lead to non-unitary effects in models for neutrino masses. Such effects could represent a sign of new physics beyond the Standard Model, leading to observable deviations in neutrino oscillation experiments, lepton flavor violation, and other precision measurements. This work explores the parameter space of the linear and inverse low-scale seesaw models based on flavor symmetries consistent with neutrino oscillation experiments. In particular, we investigated the violation of unitarity when the lepton flavor violation is absent and when only one lepton flavor-violating channel is present.

Abstract:We study a quasi two-zero neutrino texture based on type-II seesaw model in a modular $A_4$ symmetry to evade the cosmological bound on the sum of neutrino mass while keeping some predictability in neutrino sector. Working on three fixed points for modulus, we discuss predictions of the model and show the allowed points satisfying the cosmological bound on neutrino mass from both CMB and CMB+BAO data.

Abstract:We look for all weak bases that lead to texture zeroes in the quark mass matrices and contain a minimal number of parameters in the framework of the standard model. Since there are ten physical observables, namely, six nonvanishing quark masses, three mixing angles and one CP phase, the maximum number of texture zeroes in both quark sectors is altogether nine. The nine zero entries can only be distributed between the up- and down-quark sectors in matrix pairs with six and three texture zeroes or five and four texture zeroes. In the weak basis where a quark mass matrix is nonsingular and has six zeroes in one sector, we find that there are 54 matrices with three zeroes in the other sector, obtainable through right-handed weak basis transformations. It is also found that all pairs composed of a nonsingular matrix with five zeroes and a nonsingular and nondecoupled matrix with four zeroes simply correspond to a weak basis choice. Without any further assumptions, none of these pairs of up- and down-quark mass matrices has physical content. It is shown that all non-weak-basis pairs of quark mass matrices that contain nine zeroes are not compatible with current experimental data. The particular case of the so-called nearest-neighbour-interaction pattern is also discussed.

Abstract:In this paper we propose a novel supersymmetric inverse seesaw model which has only one additional Z(6) symmetry. The field content is minimal to get a viable neutrino spectrum at tree-level. Interestingly, the inverse seesaw scale in our model is related to the scale of electroweak symmetry breaking. Due to that origin we are less biased about hierarchies and discuss three different types of the inverse seesaw mechanism with different phenomenologies. We can successfully reproduce neutrino masses and mixing and our model is consistent with current bounds on neutrinoless double beta decay, non-unitarity of the PMNS matrix and charged lepton flavor violation.
A minimal inverse seesaw model with $S_4$ flavour symmetry

Abstract:We construct an $S_4$ flavour symmetric minimal inverse seesaw model where the standard model is extended by adding two right-handed and two standard model gauge singlets neutrinos to explain the origin of tiny neutrino masses. The resulting model describes the lepton mass spectra and flavour mixing quite well for the case of the normal hierarchy of neutrino masses. The prediction of the model on the Dirac CP-violating phase is centered around $370.087^\circ$. Furthermore, using the allowed region for the model parameters, we have calculated the value of the effective Majorana neutrino mass, $\lvert\langle m_{ee}\rangle\rvert$, which characterizes neutrinoless double beta decay.

Abstract:A systematic study of the neutrino mass matrix $M_\nu$ with two texture zeros in a basis where the charged leptons are diagonal, and under the assumption that neutrinos are Dirac particles, is carried through in detail. Our study is done without any approximation, first analytically and then numerically. Current neutrino oscillation data are used in our analysis. Phenomenological implications of $M_\nu$ on the lepton CP violation and neutrino mass spectrum are explored.

Abstract:A model with fermion and scalar fields charged under a Peccei-Queen~(PQ) symmetry is proposed. The PQ charges are chosen in such a way that they can reproduce mass matrices with five texture zeros, {which can generate} the fermion masses, the CKM matrix, and the PMNS matrix of the Standard Model~(SM). To obtain this result, at least 4~Higgs doublets are needed. As we will see in the manuscript this is a highly non-trivial result since the texture zeros of the mass matrices impose a large number of restrictions. This model shows a route to understand the different scales of the SM by extending it with a multi-Higgs sector and an additional PQ symmetry. Since the PQ charges are not universal, the model presents flavor-changing neutral currents~(FCNC) at the tree level, a feature that constitutes the main source of restrictions on the parameter space. We report the allowed regions by lepton decays and compare them with those coming from the semileptonic decays $K^{\pm}\longrightarrow \pi \bar{\nu}\nu$. We also show the excluded regions and the projected bounds of future experiments for the axion-photon coupling as a function of the axion mass and compare it with the parameter space of our model.

Abstract:In the seesaw framework, in the basis of MR being diagonal, we explore the simplified textures of MD that can naturally yield the trimaximal neutrino mixings and their consequences for the neutrino parameters and leptogenesis. We first formulate the generic textures of MD that can naturally yield the trimaximal mixings and then examine if their parameters can be further reduced. Our analysis is restricted to the simple but instructive scenario that there is only one phase parameter ϕ responsible for both the CP violating effects at low energies and leptogenesis. Our attention is paid to the textures of MD that possess some vanishing or equal elements. On the basis of these results, we further examine if ϕ can also take a particular value. The consequences of the phenomenologically-viable simplified textures for the neutrino parameters and leptogenesis are studied. A concrete flavor-symmetry model that can realize one representation of them is given.

Texture Zeros in modular Left-Right Symmetric Model

Abstract:Texture zeros play a crucial role in the phenomenological implementation of a particular model in the Beyond Standard Model framework. As such, in this work we study the possibility concerning the origin of texture zero in the neutrino mass matrix in the context of modular Left-Right Symmetric Model. Implementation of texture zeros in the light neutrino mass matrix brings forth the existence of allowed and disallowed classes of the texture zero classification. In the present work, we have studied Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay, Lepton flavor violation and Resonant Leptogenesis and tried to analyze if the simultaneous study of these three phenomenology are connected with a common parameter space within the model. We have determined the possible combinations of 1-0 and 2-0 textures in the context of resulting light neutrino mass matrix and illustrated the allowed classes for both textures corresponding to the realization of neutrinoless double beta decay, leptogenesis and lepton flavor violation. The study has been carried out for both normal and inverted hierarchy and the results have been illustrated in the present work.

Resonant leptogenesis in minimal inverse seesaw ISS(2,2) model

Abstract:We investigate the parameter space of the minimal inverse seesaw ISS(2,2) model for successful leptogenesis. The framework of ISS(2, 2) is realized by augmenting the Standard Model with two right-handed and two Standard Model singlet neutrinos. The decay of the heavy sterile states which is essentially an admixture of the right-handed and SM singlet neutrino states produces the baryon asymmetry of the universe. In this predictive model of leptogenesis, we study resonant leptogenesis where the mass splitting between the heavy sterile states is naturally achieved. We review the possibility of generating the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe via leptogenesis where the CP violation comes solely from the low-energy CP phases. In addition, we study the effect of texture zero in the Dirac mass matrix on the parameter space of the model for successful resonant leptogenesis.

Abstract:We propose a model for leptons based on the smallest modular finite group $\Gamma_2\cong S_3$ that, for the first time, accounts for both the hints of large low-energy CP-violation in the lepton sector and the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe, generated by only two heavy right-handed neutrinos. These same states are also employed in a Minimal seesaw mechanism to generate light neutrino masses. Besides the heavy neutrinos, our particle content is the same as the Standard Model (SM), with the addition of one single modulus $\tau$, whose vacuum expectation value is responsible for both the modular and CP-symmetry breakings. We show that this minimalistic SM extension is enough to get an excellent fit to low energy neutrino observables and to the required baryon asymmetry $\eta_B$. Predictions for the neutrino mass ordering, effective masses in neutrinoless double beta decay and tritium decay as well as for the Majorana phases are also provided.

Neutrino Mass Matrices with Generalized CP Symmetries and Texture Zeros

Abstract:We investigate the properties of neutrino mass matrices that incorporate texture zeros and generalized CP symmetries associated with tribimaximal mixing. By combining these approaches, we derive predictive neutrino mass matrices and explore their implications for mass hierarchies, mixing angles, and CP-violating phases. We find that the three angles defining the generalized CP symmetries have narrow allowed ranges. We also obtain distinct correlations between the three mixing angles and the CP-violating phases that distinguish the various texture patterns from one another. Moreover, we compute the effective neutrino mass for neutrinoless double beta decay and the sum of neutrino masses. Our results highlight the predictability and testability of neutrino mass matrices with generalized CP symmetry.
