Abstract:We prove that the ring of Weyl invariant $E_8$ weak Jacobi forms is isomorphic to that of joint covariants of a binary sextic and a binary quartic form. The ring is therefore finitely generated. A minimal basis of generators is obtained from that already known for the ring of covariants.

Abstract:We determine the Waring ranks of all sextic binary forms with complex coefficients using a Geometric Invariant Theory approach. Using the five basic invariants for sextic binary forms, our results give a rapid method to determine the Waring rank of any given sextic binary form. In particular, we shed new light on a claim by E. B. Elliott at the end of the 19th century concerning the binary sextics with Waring rank 3. We show that for binary forms of arbitrary degree the cactus rank, a.k.a. scheme rank, is determined by the corresponding Waring rank. Finally we determine the border ranks of all binary sextics.

Generalized Witten Genus and Vanishing Theorems

Abstract:We construct a generalized Witten genus for spin$^c$ manifolds, which takes values in level 1 modular forms with integral Fourier expansion on a class of spin$^c$ manifolds called string$^c$ manifolds. We also construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for $8k+2$ dimensional spin manifolds. The Landweber-Stong type vanishing theorems are proven for the generalized Witten genus and the mod 2 Witten genus on string$^c$ and string (generalized) complete intersections in (product of) complex projective spaces respectively.

Abstract:The moduli space Y=Y(E6) of marked cubic surfaces is one of the most classical moduli spaces in algebraic geometry, dating back to the nineteenth‐century work of Cayley and Salmon. Modern interest in Y was restored in the 1980s by Naruki's explicit construction of a W(E6) ‐equivariant smooth projective compactification Y ̄ of Y , and in the 2000s by Hacking, Keel, and Tevelev's construction of the Kollár–Shepherd‐Barron–Alexeev (KSBA) stable pair compactification Y∼ of Y as a natural sequence of blowups of Y ̄ . We describe generators for the cones of W(E6) ‐invariant effective divisors and curves of both Y ̄ and Y∼ . For Naruki's compactification Y ̄ , we further obtain a complete stable base locus decomposition of the W(E6) ‐invariant effective cone, and as a consequence find several new W(E6) ‐equivariant birational models of Y ̄ . Furthermore, we fully describe the log minimal model program for the KSBA compactification Y∼ , with respect to the divisor KY∼+cB+dE , where B is the boundary and E is the sum of the divisors parameterizing marked cubic surfaces with Eckardt points.

The ring of projective invariants of eight points on the line via representation theory

Abstract:The ring of projective invariants of eight ordered points on the line is a quotient of the polynomial ring on V, where V is a fourteen-dimensional representation of S_8, by an ideal I_8, so the modular fivefold (P^1)^8 // GL(2) is Proj(Sym* (V)/I_8). We show that there is a unique cubic hypersurface S in PV whose equation s is skew-invariant, and that the singular locus of S is the modular fivefold. In particular, over Z[1/3], the modular fivefold is cut out by the 14 partial derivatives of s. Better: these equations generate I_8. In characteristic 3, the cubic s is needed to generate the ideal. The existence of such a cubic was predicted by Dolgachev. Over Q, we recover the 14 quadrics found by computer calculation by Koike, and our approach yields a conceptual representation-theoretic description of the presentation. Additionally we find the graded Betti numbers of a minimal free resolution in any characteristic. The proof over Q is by pure thought, using Lie theory and commutative algebra. Over Z, the assistance of a computer was necessary. This result will be used as the base case describing the equations of the moduli space of an arbitrary number of points on P^1, with arbitrary weighting, in a later paper, completing the program of our previous paper (Duke Math. J.). The modular fivefold, and corresponding ring, are known to have a number of special incarnations, due to Deligne-Mostow, Kondo, and Freitag-Salvati Manni, for example as ball quotients or ring of modular forms respectively.

Abstract:We construct a mod 2 analogue of the Witten genus for 8k+2 dimensional spin manifolds, as well as modular characteristic numbers for a class of spinc manifolds which we call stringc manifolds. When these spinc manifolds are actually spin, one recovers the original Witten genus on string manifolds. These genera vanish on string and stringc complete intersections respectively in complex projective spaces.

Abstract:It was known through the efforts of many works that the generating functions in the closed Gromov–Witten theory of $$K_{{\mathbb {P}}^2}$$ are meromorphic quasi-modular forms (Coates and Iritani in Kyoto J Math 58(4):695–864, 2018; Lho and Pandharipande in Adv Math 332:349–402, 2018; Coates and Iritani in Gromov–Witten invariants of local $${\mathbb {P}}^{2}$$ and modular forms, arXiv:1804.03292 [math.AG], 2018) basing on the B-model predictions (Bershadsky et al. in Commun Math Phys 165:311–428, 1994; Aganagic et al. in Commun Math Phys 277:771–819, 2008; Alim et al. in Adv Theor Math Phys 18(2):401–467, 2014). In this article, we extend the modularity phenomenon to $$K_{{{\mathbb {P}}^1}\times {{\mathbb {P}}^1}}, K_{W{\mathbb {P}}[1,1,2]}, K_{{\mathbb {F}}_1}$$ . More importantly, we generalize it to the generating functions in the open Gromov–Witten theory using the theory of Jacobi forms where the open Gromov–Witten parameters are transformed into elliptic variables.

Abstract:For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity, we describe a family of moduli spaces, a virtual cycle, and a corresponding cohomological field theory associated to the singularity. This theory is analogous to Gromov-Witten theory and generalizes the theory of r-spin curves, which corresponds to the simple singularity A_r-1. We also resolve two outstanding conjectures of Witten. The first conjecture is that ADE-singularities are self-dual; and the second conjecture is that the total potential functions of ADE-singularities satisfy corresponding ADE-integrable hierarchies. Other cases of integrable hierarchies are also discussed.

Abstract:We first develop theories of differential rings of quasi-Siegel modular andquasi-Siegel Jacobi forms for genus two. Then we apply them to theEynard-Orantin topological recursion of certain local Calabi-Yau threefoldsequipped with branes, whose mirror curves are genus two hyperelliptic curves.By the proof of the Remodeling Conjecture, we prove that the correspondingopen- and closed- Gromov-Witten potentials are essentially quasi-Siegel Jacobiand quasi-Siegel modular forms for genus two, respectively.
Bounds for the Hilbert-Kunz Multiplicity of Singular Rings

Abstract:In this paper we prove that the Watanabe-Yoshida conjecture holds up to dimension $7$. Our primary new tool is a function, $\varphi_J\left(R; z^t\right),$ that interpolates between the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicities of a base ring, $R$, and various radical extensions, $R_n$. We prove that this function is concave and show that it's rate of growth is related to the size of $e_{HK}\left(R\right)$. We combine several known techniques to get effective lower bounds for $\varphi,$ which translate to improved bounds on the size of Hilbert-Kunz multiplicities of singular rings. The improved inequalities are powerful enough to show that the conjecture of Watanabe and Yoshida holds in dimension $7$.

Abstract:We prove that the Mazur-Tate elements of an eigenform $f$ sit inside the Fitting ideals of the corresponding dual Selmer groups along the cyclotomic $\mathbb Z_p$-extension (up to scaling by a single constant). Our method begins with the construction of local cohomology classes built via the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence. From these classes, we build algebraic analogues of the Mazur-Tate elements which we directly verify sit in the appropriate Fitting ideals. Using Kato's Euler system and explicit reciprocity laws, we prove that these algebraic elements divide the corresponding Mazur-Tate elements, implying our theorem.

Abstract:We show that the ring of Siegel-Jacobi forms of fixed degree and of fixed or bounded ratio between weight and index is not finitely generated. Our main tool is the theory of toroidal b-divisors and their relation to convex geometry. As a byproduct of our methods, we prove a conjecture of Kramer about the representation of all Siegel-Jacobi forms as sections of certain line bundles and we recover a formula due to Tai for the asymptotic dimension of the space of Siegel-Jacobi forms of given ratio between weight and index.

Abstract:We reconstruct the all-genus Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants of a Fermat cubic Landau-Ginzburg space $(x_1^3+x_2^3+x_3^3: [\mathbb{C}^3/ \mathbold{\mu}_3]\to \mathbb{C})$ from genus-one primary invariants, using tautological relations and axioms of Cohomological Field Theories. These genus-one invariants satisfy a Chazy equation by the Belorousski-Pandharipande relation. They are completely determined by a single genus-one invariant, which can be obtained from cosection localization and intersection theory on moduli of three spin curves. We solve an all-genus Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau Correspondence Conjecture for the Fermat cubic Landau-Ginzburg space using Cayley transformation on quasi-modular forms. This transformation relates two non-semisimple CohFT theories: the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory of the Fermat cubic polynomial and the Gromov-Witten theory of the Fermat cubic curve. As a consequence, Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten invariants at any genus can be computed using Gromov-Witten invariants of the elliptic curve. They also satisfy nice structures including holomorphic anomaly equations and Virasoro constraints.

Abstract:Eichler and Zagier developed a theory of Jacobi forms to understand and extend Maass' work on the Saito-Kurokawa conjecture. Later Skoruppa introduced skew-holomorphic Jacobi forms, which play an important role in understanding liftings of modular forms and Jacobi forms. In this paper, we explain a relation between holomorphic Jacobi forms and skew-holomorphic Jacobi forms in terms of a group cohomology. More precisely, we introduce an isomorphism from the direct sum of the space of Jacobi cusp forms on $\Gamma^J$ and the space of skew-holomorphic Jacobi cusp forms on $\Gamma^J$ with the same half-integral weight to the Eichler cohomology group of $\Gamma^J$ with a coefficient module coming from polynomials.

Abstract:Given a polynomial P of partial derivatives of the Kahler metric, expressed as a linear combination of directed multigraphs, we prove a simple criterion in terms of the coefficients for P to be an invariant polynomial, i.e. invariant under the transformation of coordinates. As applications, we prove an explicit composition formula for covariant differential operators under a canonical basis, also known as invariant differential operators in the case of bounded symmetric domains. We also prove a general explicit formula of star products on Kahler manifolds.

Abstract:We establish combinatorial and inductive formulas for Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials associated to covexillary elements in classical types, extending results of Boe, Lascoux-Schützenberger, Sankaran-Vanchinathan, and Zelevinsky for Grassmannians of classical types. The proof uses intersection cohomology theory and the isomorphism of Kazhdan-Lusztig varieties from Anderson-Ikeda-Jeon-Kawago.

Abstract:Jacobi forms can be considered as vector valued modular forms, and Jacobi forms of critical weight correspond to vector valued modular forms of weight $\frac12$. Since the only modular forms of weight $\frac12$ on congruence subgroups of $\SL$ are theta series the theory of Jacobi forms of critical weight is intimately related to the theory of Weil representations of finite quadratic modules. This article explains this relation in detail, gives an account of various facts about Weil representations which are useful in this context, and it gives some applications of the theory developed herein by proving various vanishing theorems and by proving a conjecture on Jacobi forms of weight one on $\SL$ with character.

Abstract:We study the distribution of ranks of elliptic curves in quadratic twist families using Iwasawa-theoretic methods, contributing to the understanding of Goldfeld's conjecture. Given an elliptic curve $ E/\mathbb{Q} $ with good ordinary reduction at $ 2 $ and $ \lambda_2(E/\mathbb{Q}) = 0 $, we use Matsuno's Kida-type formula to construct quadratic twists $ E^{(d)} $ such that $ \lambda_2(E^{(d)}/\mathbb{Q}) $ remains unchanged or increases by $ 2 $. When the root number of $E^{(d)}$ is $-1$ and the Tate-Shafarevich group $Sha(E^{(d)}/\mathbb{Q})[2^\infty] $ is finite, this yields quadratic twists with Mordell--Weil rank $ 1 $. These results support the conjectural expectation that, on average, half of the quadratic twists in a family have rank $ 0 $ and half have rank $ 1 $. In the cases we consider we obtain asymptotic lower bounds for the number of twists by squarefree numbers $d\leq X$ which match with the conjectured value up to an explicit power of $\log X$. They complement recent groundbreaking results of Smith on Goldfeld's conjecture.

Functional Analysis and Its Applications

Abstract:We define a Grothendieck ring of pairs of complex quasi-projective varieties (consisting of a variety and a subvariety). We describe -structures on this ring and a power structure over it. We show that the conjectual symmetric power of the projective line with several orbifold points described by A. Fonarev is consistent with the symmetric power of this line with the set of distinguished points as a pair of varieties.
