Abstract:We survey the combinatorics of the Adinkra, a graphical device for solving differential equations in supersymmetry. These graphs represent an exceptional class of 1-factorizations with further augmentations. As a new feature, we characterize Adinkras using Latin rectangles.

Abstract:Adinkras are graphical gadgets introduced by physicists to study supersymmetry, which can be thought of as the Cayley graphs for supersymmetry algebras. Improving the result of Iga et al., we determine the critical group of an Adinkra given the $2$-rank of the Laplacian of the underlying Cayley graph. As a corollary, we show that the critical group is independent of the signature of the Adinkra. The proof uses the monodromy pairing on these critical groups.

Abstract:Adinkras are graphs that can describe off-shell supermultiplets in 1 dimension with a Lie superalgebra known as Garden algebra. In this paper, I show that the degrees of freedom of the adinkra can be represented by a subgraph called a baobab. Because the structure of adinkras and baobabs are very general, I will show that all finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras can be similarly described by more general Lie adinkras and Lie baobabs. Furthermore, it will be shown that adinkras can represent forward error correction block codes, and bit erasures in Garden algebra adinkras can be corrected using logic circuits derived from baobabs.

Unfolded Adinkra Properties of Supermultiplets (I)

Abstract:Adinkra networks arise in the Carroll limit of supersymmetric QFT. Extensions of adinkras that are infinite dimensional graphs have never previously been discussed in the literature. We call these "infinite unfolded'' adinkras and study the properties of their realization on familiar 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets. A new feature in "unfolded'' adinkras is the appearance of quantities whose actions resemble BRST operators within Verma-like modules. New "net-centric" quantities ${\widetilde \chi}_{(1)}$ and ${\widetilde \chi}_{(2)}$ are introduced, which along with quantity $\chi_{\rm o}$, describe distinctions between familiar supermultiplets in 4D, $\cal N $ = 1 theories. A previously unobserved property in all adinkras that we call "adinkra vorticity" is noted.

Adinkra Height Yielding Matrix Numbers: Eigenvalue Equivalence Classes for Minimal Four-Color Adinkras

Abstract:An adinkra is a graph-theoretic representation of spacetime supersymmetry. Minimal four-color valise adinkras have been extensively studied due to their relations to minimal 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets. Valise adinkras, although an important subclass, do not encode all the information present when a 4D supermultiplet is reduced to 1D. Eigenvalue equivalence classes for valise adinkra matrices exist, known as $\chi_{\rm o}$ equivalence classes, where valise adinkras within the same $\chi_{\rm o}$ equivalence class are isomorphic in the sense that adinkras within a $\chi_{\rm o}$-equivalence class can be transformed into each other via field redefinitions of the nodes. We extend this to non-valise adinkras, via Python code, providing a complete eigenvalue classification of "node-lifting" for all 36,864 valise adinkras associated with the Coxeter group $BC{}_4$. We term the eigenvalues associated with these node-lifted adinkras Height Yielding Matrix Numbers (HYMNs) and introduce HYMN equivalence classes. These findings have been summarized in a $Mathematica$ notebook that can found at the HEPTHools Data Repository (<a class="link-external link-https" href="https://hepthools.github.io/Data/" rel="external noopener nofollow">this https URL</a>) on GitHub.

Abstract:Adinkras are graphical representations of the gauge invariant field components in supersymmetric theories and their orbits under the action of supersymmetry (SUSY) generators in the context of supermultiplets. A discussion is given that provides a thorough review of the concepts of holoraumy, permutahedra, and gadgets. One consequence of these concepts, the additional concept of hopper operators, is discussed. These play a particularly important role that ignites the processes needed for the study of adinkras related to minimal 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets (chiral, vector, tensor and complex linear supermultiplets) through the prism of very simple cellular automata following Wolfram's `New Kind of Science' paradigm.

Abstract:Evidence is presented in some examples that an adinkra quantum number, $\chi_{\rm o}$ (arXiv:\ 0902.3830 [hep-th]), seems to play a role with regard to off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 SUSY similar to the role of color in QCD. The vanishing of this adinkra quantum number appears to be a condition required for when two off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supermultiplets form an off-shell 4D, $\cal N$ = 2 supermultiplet. We also explicitly comment on a deformation of the Lie bracket and anti-commutator operators that has been extensively and implicitly used in our work on "Garden Algebras" adinkras, and codes.
Adinkra height functions and the Jacobian of a generalized Fermat curve

Abstract:Adinkras are highly structured graphs developed to study 1-dimensional supersymmetry algebras. A cyclic ordering of the edge colors of an Adinkra, or rainbow, determines a Riemann surface and a height function on the vertices of the Adinkra determines a divisor on this surface. We study the induced map from height functions to divisors on the Jacobian of the Riemann surface. In the first nontrivial case, a 5-dimensional hypercube corresponding to a Jacobian given by a product of 5 elliptic curves each with $j$-invariant 2048, we develop and characterize a purely combinatorial algorithm to compute height function images. We show that when restricted to a single elliptic curve, every height function is a multiple of a specified generating divisor, and raising and lowering vertices corresponds to adding or subtracting this generator. We also give strict bounds on the coefficients of this generator that appear in the collection of all divisors of height functions.

Abstract:The mathematical concept of a "Banchoff index" associated with discrete Morse functions for oriented triangular meshes has been shown to correspond to the height assignments of nodes in adinkras. In recent work there has been introduced the concept of "Banchoff matrices" leading to HYMNs - height yielding matrix numbers. HYMNs map the shape of an adinkra to a set of eigenvalues derived from Banchoff matrices. In the context of some examples of four-color, minimal five-color, and minimal six-color adinkras, properties of the HYMNs are explored.

Abstract:The nilpotence variety for extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a cone over a quadric in projective space. The pure spinor correspondence, which relates the description of off-shell supermultiplets to the classification of modules over the corresponding hypersurface ring, reduces to a classical problem of linear algebra. Spinor bundles, which correspond to maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules, serve as basic building blocks. Koszul duality appears as a deformed version of the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand correspondence that we make fully concrete. We illustrate in numerous examples the close relationship between these connections and the powerful graphical technology of Adinkras, which appear as a decategorification of special complexes on quadrics. We emphasize the role of R-symmetry for recovering higher-dimensional gauge and gravity multiplets.

In the present article, I share with the reader my experience of applying the methods described in the previous article in order to solve a particular problem from number theory (G. Almkvist, J. Petersson and the author, Experiment. Math. 12 (2003), 441-456). Moreover, I add a list of determinant evaluations which I consider as interesting, which have been found since the appearance of the previous article, or which I failed to mention there, including several conjectures and open problems.

Abstract:We introduce a geometric method to study additive combinatorial problems. Using equivariant cohomology we reprove the Dias da Silva–Hamidoune theorem. We improve a result of Sun on the linear extension of the Erdős–Heilbronn conjecture. We generalize a theorem of G. Kós (the Grashopper problem) which in some sense is a simultaneous generalization of the Erdős–Heilbronn conjecture. We also prove a signed version of the Erdős—Heilbronn conjecture and the Grashopper problem. Most identities used are based on calculating the projective degree of an algebraic variety in two different ways.

Abstract:Scattering diagrams arose in the context of mirror symmetry, but a special class of scattering diagrams (the cluster scattering diagrams) were recently developed to prove key structural results on cluster algebras. We use the connection to cluster algebras to calculate the function attached to the limiting wall of a rank-2 cluster scattering diagram of affine type. In the skew-symmetric rank-2 affine case, this recovers a formula due to Reineke. In the same case, we show that the generating function for signed Narayana numbers appears in a role analogous to a cluster variable. In acyclic finite type, we construct cluster scattering diagrams of acyclic finite type from Cambrian fans and sortable elements, with a simple direct proof.

Abstract:We show performing general "0-brane reduction" along an arbitrary fixed direction in space–time and applied to the starting point of minimal, off-shell 4D, N = 1 irreducible supermultiplets, yields adinkras whose adjacency matrices are among some of the special cases proposed by Kuznetsova, Rojas and Toppan. However, these more general reductions also can lead to "Garden Algebra" structures beyond those described in their work. It is also shown that for light-like directions, reduction to the 0-brane breaks the equality in the number of fermions and bosons for dynamical theories. This implies that light-like reductions should be done instead to the space of 1-branes or equivalently to the worldsheet.

Abstract:Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, Volume 33, Issue 08, July 2024. We obtain a localized version of the configuration space integral for the Casson knot invariant, where the standard symmetric Gauss form is replaced with a locally supported form. An interesting technical difference between the arguments presented here and the classical arguments is that the vanishing of integrals over hidden and anomalous faces does not require the well-known "involution tricks". The integral formula easily yields the well-known arrow diagram expression for regular knot diagrams, first presented in the work by Polyak and Viro. Moreover, it yields an arrow diagram count for the multicrossing knot diagrams, such as petal diagrams and gives a new lower bound for the übercrossing number. Previously, the known arrow diagram formulas were applicable only to the regular knot diagrams.

Abstract:We suggest a combinatorial classification of metric filtrations in measure spaces; a complete invariant of such a filtration is its combinatorial scheme, a measure on the space of hierarchies of the group~$\mathbb Z$. In turn, the notion of combinatorial scheme is a source of new metric invariants of automorphisms approximated via basic filtrations. We construct a universal graph endowed with an adic structure such that every automorphism can be realized in its path space.

Abstract:We provide a combinatorial formula for the expansion of immaculate noncommutative symmetric functions into complete homogeneous noncommutative symmetric functions. To do this, we introduce generalizations of Ferrers diagrams which we call GBPR diagrams. We define tunnel hooks, which play a role similar to that of the special rim hooks appearing in the Eğecioğlu-Remmel formula for the symmetric inverse Kostka matrix. We extend this interpretation to skew shapes and fully generalize to define immaculate functions indexed by integer sequences skewed by integer sequences. Finally, as an application of our combinatorial formula, we extend Campbell's results on ribbon decompositions of immaculate functions to a larger class of shapes.
