Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study the Weyl transform of functions which are integrable with respect to a vector measure on a phase space associated to a locally compact abelian group. We also study the Weyl transform of vector measures. Later, we also introduce and study the convolution of functions from $L^p$-spaces associated to a vector measure. We also study the Weyl transform of vector-valued functions and prove a vector-valued analogue of the Hausdorff-Young inequality.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove several versions of the classical Paley inequality for the Weyl transform. As an application, we discuss $L^p$-$L^q$ boundedness of the Weyl multipliers and prove a version of the Hörmander's multiplier theorem. We also prove Hardy-Littlewood inequality. Finally, we study vector-valued versions of these inequalities. In particular, we consider the inequalities of Paley, Hausdorff-Young, and Hardy-Littlewood and their relations.

Abstract:It is known that the multiplier algebra of an approximately unital and nondegenerate $L^p$-operator algebra is again an $L^p$-operator algebra. In this paper we investigate examples that drop both hypotheses. In particular, we show that the multiplier algebra of $T_2^p$, the algebra of strictly upper triangular $2 \times 2$ matrices acting on $\ell_2^p$, is still an $L^p$-operator algebra for any $p$. To contrast this result, we first provide a thorough study of the augmentation ideal of $\ell^1(G)$ for a discrete group $G$. We use this ideal to define a family of non approximately unital degenerate $L^p$-operator algebras, $F_{r,0}^p(\Bbb{Z}/3\Bbb{Z})$, whose multiplier algebras cannot be represented on any $L^q$-space for any $q \in [1, \infty)$ as long as $p \in [1, p_0] \cup [p_0', \infty)$, where $p_0=1.606$ and $p_0'$ is its Hölder conjugate.

Dynamics of $L^p$-Multiplier for $p\leq 2$ on Harmonic Manifolds of Purely Exponential Volume Growth

Abstract:We study the dynamics of $L^p$-multipliers on non-compact simply connected harmonic manifolds of purely exponential volume growth. These are linear operators on the $L^p$-spaces which behave nicely on radial functions under Fourier transformation. In the process we complement the results of Kingshook Biswas and Rudra P. Sarkar by showing that if they are acting nicely on smooth function with compact support under Fourier transform for $p\leq 2$ these can not be chaotic. Furthermore, we use this to study the behaviour of the heat semi-group, the resolvent and the convolution algebra arising from convolution with radial functions. In the process, we obtain a Young inequality for the convolution on non-compact simply connected harmonic manifolds, an extension of the Kunz-Stein and study the domain of holomorphicity of the Fourier transform.

$L^p$-$L^q$ Fourier multipliers and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequalities on Riemannian symmetric spaces of noncompact type

Abstract:Our primary objective in this article is to establish Hörmander type $L^p \rightarrow L^q$ Fourier multiplier theorems in the context of noncompact type Riemannian symmetric spaces $\mathbb{X}$ of arbitrary rank for the range $1 < p \leq 2 \leq q < \infty$. As a consequence of the Fourier multiplier theorem, we also derive a spectral multiplier theorem on $\mathbb{X}$. We then apply this theorem to prove $L^p \rightarrow L^q$ boundedness for functions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and to obtain embedding theorems and operator estimates for the potentials and heat semigroups. Additionally, we provide mixed-norm versions of the Hausdorff-Young and Paley inequalities. In this context, where the Fourier transform is holomorphic, and its domain consists of various strips, we present two versions of these inequalities and explore their interrelation. Furthermore, our findings and methods are also applicable to harmonic $NA$ groups, also known as Damek-Ricci spaces.

The local geometry of idempotent Schur multipliers

Abstract:A Schur multiplier is a linear map on matrices which acts on its entries by multiplication with some function, called the symbol. We consider idempotent Schur multipliers, whose symbols are indicator functions of smooth Euclidean domains. Given $1<p\neq 2<\infty$, we provide a local characterization (under some mild transversality condition) for the boundedness on Schatten $p$-classes of Schur idempotents in terms of a lax notion of boundary flatness. We prove in particular that all Schur idempotents are modeled on a single fundamental example: the triangular projection. As an application, we fully characterize the local $L_p$-boundedness of smooth Fourier idempotents on connected Lie groups. They are all modeled on one of three fundamental examples: the classical Hilbert transform, and two new examples of Hilbert transforms that we call affine and projective. Our results in this paper are vast noncommutative generalizations of Fefferman's celebrated ball multiplier theorem. They confirm the intuition that Schur multipliers share profound similarities with Euclidean Fourier multipliers |even in the lack of a Fourier transform connection| and complete, for Lie groups, a longstanding search of Fourier $L_p$-idempotents.

Endpoint estimates for higher order Marcinkiewicz multipliers

Abstract:We consider Marcinkiewicz multipliers of any lacunary order defined by means of uniformly bounded variation on each lacunary Littlewood--Paley interval of some fixed order $\tau\geq 1$. We prove the optimal endpoint bounds for such multipliers as a corollary of a more general endpoint estimate for a class of multipliers introduced by Coifman, Rubio de Francia and Semmes and further studied by Tao and Wright. Our methods also yield the best possible endpoint mapping property for higher order Hörmander-Mihlin multipliers, namely multipliers which are singular on every point of a lacunary set of order $\tau$. These results can be considered as endpoint versions of corresponding results of Sjögren and Sjölin. Finally our methods generalize a weak square function characterization of the space $L\log^{1/2}L$ in terms of a square function introduced by Tao and Wright: we realize such a weak characterization as the dual of the Chang--Wilson--Wolff inequality, thus giving corresponding weak square function characterizations for the spaces $L\log^{\tau/2}L$ for general integer orders $\tau\geq 1$.

Abstract:Let $L_\nu = -\partial_x^2-(\nu-1)x^{-1} \partial_x$ be the Bessel operator on the half-line $X_\nu = [0,\infty)$ with measure $x^{\nu-1} \,\mathrm{d} x$. In this work we study singular integral operators associated with the Laplacian $\Delta_\nu = -\partial_u^2 + e^{2u} L_\nu$ on the product $G_\nu$ of $X_\nu$ and the real line with measure $\mathrm{d} u$. For any $\nu \geq 1$, the Laplacian $\Delta_\nu$ is left-invariant with respect to a noncommutative hypergroup structure on $G_\nu$, which can be thought of as a fractional-dimension counterpart to $ax+b$ groups. In particular, equipped with the Riemannian distance associated with $\Delta_\nu$, the metric-measure space $G_\nu$ has exponential volume growth. We prove a sharp $L^p$ spectral multiplier theorem of Mihlin--Hörmander type for $\Delta_\nu$, as well as the $L^p$-boundedness for $p \in (1,\infty)$ of the associated first-order Riesz transforms. To this purpose, we develop a Calderón--Zygmund theory à la Hebisch--Steger adapted to the nondoubling structure of $G_\nu$, and establish large-time gradient heat kernel estimates for $\Delta_\nu$. In addition, the Riesz transform bounds for $p > 2$ hinge on an operator-valued spectral multiplier theorem, which we prove in greater generality and may be of independent interest.

Abstract:We introduce multidimensional Schur multipliers and characterise them generalising well known results by Grothendieck and Peller. We define a multidimensional version of the two dimensional operator multipliers studied recently by Kissin and Shulman. The multidimensional operator multipliers are defined as elements of the minimal tensor product of several C*-algebras satisfying certain boundedness conditions. In the case of commutative C*-algebras, the multidimensional operator multipliers reduce to continuous multidimensional Schur multipliers. We show that the multipliers with respect to some given representations of the corresponding C*-algebras do not change if the representations are replaced by approximately equivalent ones. We establish a non-commutative and multidimensional version of the characterisations by Grothendieck and Peller which shows that universal operator multipliers can be obtained as certain weak limits of elements of the algebraic tensor product of the corresponding C*-algebras.

Abstract:This paper studies the $L^{p}$ boundedness of bilinear Fourier multipliers in the local $L^{2}$ range. We assume a Hörmander condition relative to a singular set that is a finite union of Lipschitz curves. The Hörmander condition is sharp with respect to the Sobolev exponent. Our setup generalizes the non-degenerate bilinear Hilbert transform but avoids issues of uniform bounds near degeneracy.

Abstract:Using the standard square--function method (based on the Poisson semigroup), multiplier conditions of Hörmander type are derived for Laguerre expansions in $L^p$--spaces with power weights in the $A_p$-range; this result can be interpreted as an ``upper end point'' multiplier criterion which is fairly good for $p$ near $1$ or near $\infty $. A weighted generalization of Kanjin's \cite{kan} transplantation theorem allows to obtain a ``lower end point'' multiplier criterion whence by interpolation nearly ``optimal'' multiplier criteria (in dependance of $p$, the order of the Laguerre polynomial, the weight).

Singular multipliers on multiscale Zygmund sets

Abstract:Given an Orlicz space $ L^2 \subseteq X \subseteq L^1$ on $[0,1]$, with submultiplicative Young function ${\mathrm{Y}_X}$, we fully characterize the closed null sets $\Xi$ of the real line with the property that Hörmander-Mihlin or Marcinkiewicz multiplier operators $\mathrm{T}_m$ with singularities on $\Xi$ obey weak-type endpoint modular bounds on $X$ of the type \[ \left|\left\{x\in \mathbb R : |\mathrm{T}_m f(x)| >\lambda\right\}\right| \leq C \int_{\mathbb R} \mathrm{Y}_X \left(\frac{|f|}{\lambda}\right), \qquad \forall \lambda>0. \] These sets $\Xi$ are exactly those enjoying a scale invariant version of Zygmund's $(L\sqrt{\log L},{L^2})$ improving inequality with $X$ in place of the former space, which is termed multiscale Zygmund property. Our methods actually yield sparse and quantitative weighted estimates for the Fourier multipliers $\mathrm{T}_m$ and for the corresponding square functions. In particular, our framework covers the case of singular sets $\Xi$ of finite lacunary order and thus leads to modular and quantitative weighted versions of the classical endpoint theorems of Tao and Wright for Marcinkiewicz multipliers. Moreover, we obtain a pointwise sparse bound for the Marcinkiewicz square function answering a recent conjecture of Lerner. On the other hand, examples of non-lacunary sets enjoying the multiscale Zygmund property for each $X=L^p$, $1<p\leq 2$ are also covered. The main new ingredient in the proofs is a multi-frequency, multi-scale projection lemma based on Gabor expansion, and possessing independent interest.

Abstract:We study the boundedness on the Wiener amalgam spaces $W^{p,q}_s$ of Fourier multipliers with symbols of the type $e^{i\mu(\xi)}$, for some real-valued functions $\mu(\xi)$ whose prototype is $|\xi|^{\beta}$ with $\beta\in (0,2]$. Under some suitable assumptions on $\mu$, we give the characterization of $W^{p,q}_s\rightarrow W^{p,q}$ boundedness of $e^{i\mu(D)}$, for arbitrary pairs of $0< p,q\leq \infty$. Our results are an essential improvement of the previous known results, for both sides of sufficiency and necessity, even for the special case $\mu(\xi)=|\xi|^{\beta}$ with $1<\beta<2$.
